"A night at Purepecha means finding the almost-hidden door at Revolver Taco Lounge between rowdy bars in Deep Ellum, walking into the kitchen, and sitting at a communal table for a few hours. Warm corn tortillas and hand-ground salsa molcajeteada start things off homestyle, but rather than a family meal, you’re in for a seven-course, artfully plated tasting menu that highlights the traditions of Michoacán for $210. You’ll get small plates like the beautifully layered Crudo That Wants To Be Ceviche, where citrus and slices of fish are topped with seagrass and roe. The pinnacle of dinner is corundas, an iconic Michoacán dish of marigold-studded tamal sacred to the indigenous Purepecha people. It offers a mix of its taco menu and the fancier dishes on the tasting menu at the Purepecha Room. Order one of the signature tacos, the pulpo pastor, which features a full octopus tentacle wrapped in homemade masa tortillas. The pato (duck breast) is also stellar, but go for more traditional carne asada, carnitas, or el pastor taco, if you must.
