I used to go to their shows all the time when they were in little five points. They were amazing and really funny. Then, they also had two shows and the early show was a bit cleaner, while the late show was all out. It was very accommodating. I hadn’t been in years and decided to take my wife, son, and his gf. They are teens. We went to their anniversary show and I felt like it would be a great way to show them the comedy I used to love from DG. All through the night, I just noticed it wasn’t nearly as funny as it used to be, but it still wasn’t too bad. Little laughs and a nice relaxing atmosphere. As the show drew to a close there was a woman that took the stage to do a final act. She proceeded to strip, in a burlesque show. I thought, well, this isn’t like a strip show so surely it won’t go to far. Well, I was wrong. She ultimately stripped to ma tiny tiny tiny gstring covering both her top parts and bottom parts. All the while, the crowd was laughing. To be honest, I wasn’t sure why a woman stripping to practically naked was funny. I mean, she wasn’t really doing comedy or anything. Just stripping. I also was shocked they went that far when my teens weren’t the only children in the audience. There were little kids there too, like grade school.
I am not a prude and have ZERO problems with them doing burlesque shows - but not unannounced with ZERO WARNING there will be a lady getting practically naked on the stage.
What made it worse is the lady did not appear to take care of her physique, sooooo… it made me feel like the crowd was laughing at her. Completely at her. Regardless what you feel about nudity in a comedy show, with kids, I just don’t understand what is so funny about laughing at a woman taking her clothes off, and I am not sure many women would feel affirmed if they were being laughed at by a big audience while taking their clothes off. I just have missed the joke and I sure hope they did not see her, as the joke. I can’t imagine being the only one there who felt it was not an appropriate shoe to strip to a tiny string covering everything.
I honestly could not believe it. I felt more like I was leaving a strip club than a comedy club. I wanted to make dad’s garage a regular part of going out in the city, but I feel they lost my trust. If there was a warning (hey, things are gonna get pretty naked at the end) no problem. It’s the no warning that was very unacceptable.
(I feel like I left this review before, when it happened, but somehow they removed it.)
UPDATE:
I am not sure how to answer the owners question, so I will put it here.
I don’t remember the name, but it would have been sometime in 2024 or 2025 It was an anniversary show, and the last scene was to promote a new show you had coming up. And I am telling you, a lady kept taking clothes off until she had nothing but a tiny string bikini hiding nothing. We almost left but I kept saying surely they aren’t going further… And it just kept going. The ticket process or the entry said nothing about strip show.
As another commenter posted, it felt more like a party amongst friends than a show for the public. Which is fine, just tell people that up front. If this particular show is for your regulars, name it! Just say this show is for our regulars, if you want to come that’s fine, but just know it will be geared towards our dad’s garage family.
It’s hard for me to believe you didn’t get any other comments about the ending. I’ve seen more coveted at strip clubs that at this. It was basically full on nudity. Again, not a problem…. Do your thing - just warn unsuspecting guest so that we can make sure it’s appropriate for the group we are bringing. I had two teens there. Yes, I’m sure they have seen worse. That’s not what I am saying - I just don’t think my son and his 16/17 y/o wanted to experience that with a parent. I certainly had to apologize after, and told them had I know a woman would be stripping naked we would have chosen a different event. I don’t think most 16/17 girls wants to see that with her bf parents.
