Cookbook haven with author events, cooking classes, & demos

"A Seattle shop focused on food books and culinary culture, known for offering stacks of recipe pamphlets, vintage cookbooks, and other paper ephemera that can serve as inexpensive, characterful inclusions in goodie bags." - Nat Belkov

"A neighborhood bookstore where the local Eater editor will be joined in conversation by chef Mutsuko Soma of Kamonegi for an author event on November 2, offering a chance to hear about recipes and restaurant stories in an intimate retail setting." - Eater Staff

"On May 10 I noted the Fremont cookbook store Book Larder becoming a prime after-work destination, bringing together some of Seattle’s top bakers to offer treats from 4 to 6 p.m. as part of a fundraiser called “More Than a Bake Sale.” The evening also features an author talk by Natasha Pickowicz, a three-time James Beard Award–nominated pastry chef and author of More Than Cake who is known for organizing high-profile bake sales to raise money for Planned Parenthood and other causes. As a self-described “community cookbook store,” Book Larder’s Naoise McGee framed the event as a way to live the shop’s values by partnering with local bakers and chefs to raise funds and awareness; all proceeds will go to Indigenous Women Rising. Tickets (one baked good per ticket, up to five per person) are available in advance on the event website, with a limited number sold at the door. Disclosure: Eater Seattle’s editor Harry Cheadle is married to Book Larder’s Naoise McGee." - Mark DeJoy

"As a local cookbook specialist, it’s recommended for shoppers to peruse virtually for titles such as Ruwanmali Samarakoon-Amunugama’s new Sri Lankan cookbook, which offers recipes from coconut roti to beetroot curry for enterprising home cooks." - Gabe Guarente

"I'm considering the Book Larder in Fremont for a hands-on vegetarian cooking class taught by culinary director Amanda Coba; the menu includes crispy cauliflower with pomegranate molasses and roasted carrots with harissa and cumin, attendees get to enjoy the dishes over dinner, and the class runs 6:30–9 p.m. (limited to 12 people) for $75." - Maggy Lehmicke
