"On May 10 I noted the Fremont cookbook store Book Larder becoming a prime after-work destination, bringing together some of Seattle’s top bakers to offer treats from 4 to 6 p.m. as part of a fundraiser called “More Than a Bake Sale.” The evening also features an author talk by Natasha Pickowicz, a three-time James Beard Award–nominated pastry chef and author of More Than Cake who is known for organizing high-profile bake sales to raise money for Planned Parenthood and other causes. As a self-described “community cookbook store,” Book Larder’s Naoise McGee framed the event as a way to live the shop’s values by partnering with local bakers and chefs to raise funds and awareness; all proceeds will go to Indigenous Women Rising. Tickets (one baked good per ticket, up to five per person) are available in advance on the event website, with a limited number sold at the door. Disclosure: Eater Seattle’s editor Harry Cheadle is married to Book Larder’s Naoise McGee." - Mark DeJoy
