This place truly understands that dining is not just about eating, but it’s absolutely an experience. They appreciate the nuance of even knowing to ask for sparkling or Stillwater and have an exciting menu. That is absolutely delicious. I wish this restaurant was closer so I could eat here more frequently. Great job; the service was amazing. Excellent.

Machete has long been one of my all time favorite restaurants. The attention to detail with every facet of the experience is so appreciated. I’m blown away by the versatility of the menu every time I visit. I can’t wait to return many times over.

I wish I could give Machete more than 5 stars. My husband and I had the most incredible meal here. Service was amazing, the staff were all phenomenal, our waitress was knowledgeable and spent time answering all of our questions. The food was out of this world and beat everything that we ate in Vegas a few weeks ago. The only thing I’m upset about is that I didn’t find Machete sooner! I’m already looking forward to going back and getting another plate full of that incredible crab fried rice.

First visit on Friday night. Greeted with a friendly smile. Our server Lolly was very energetic and knowledgeable. She has a great vibe. She gave us perfect suggestions. I am a fan of bloody Mary's which they do have serve. She made a drink suggestion that was comparable. Just a heads up only small plates so keep that in mind. They are very creative and delicious!!!! The atmosphere was warm and esthetically pleasing.

We came for a girls night, we had the beef tartare, garlic bread, sea bass, & flat iron steak and several different cocktails. All was great and service great as well.

Machete was amazing. The presentation and quality of the food was outstanding. We had 7 plates and all were excellent. Menu changes, they say so hope to be back. While not inexpensive, I think it was worth it .

What an impressive culinary experience. Drinks, food and atmosphere were all superb!! The bartender was flying solo and had her work cut out for her, however, she didn’t skip a beat with service. The menu changes seasonally, but it’s a great way to experience different options all sure to impress. Highly recommend if you’re wanting to deviate from the routine of things.

Ok so i believe the high rating is a based on a illusion. The atmosphere is good the staff very pleasant. The food portions are small which im ok with. The duck wings were a large portion though. The sea bass and a5 skewer was not good. There flavors are way over powered with the sauces and such. I have eaten all over and dont mind paying large amounts for my food but just because the amount is low and price is high for said amount does not constitute a high end taste. They tell you all this info on how its cooked and what's in the sauce, I only care if I plan to replicate the meal, which im definitely not. I dont regret visiting this location and if your like me and have to try every restaurant around definitely give it a stop. But for me If I want a good bit of steak im going to Kaw, if I want good seafood papdaux,

Have you ever done a small road trip and on the way home a friend says "LOOK TO SEE IF WE CAN GET A RESERVATION AT MACHETE". She really talked this place up after going several times before. I would love to attach photos to this review but us three grown women hardly took breathes between the 12 plates we got to share. From the grilled pineapple to the duck wings to the banana cake- it was mostly silence because we were too busy shoveling food into our faces. The speciality cocktails were so unique and exquisite. Some were sold out but that's almost what made them more special to know you got fresh ingredients. We had nothing but the best service from every person but Ian was our main server and he was absolutely incredible. He was so fun and laid back. Ian really made sure we had a great time and besides the awesome food, with the service we had we would be sure to go out of our way to come back to Machete.

We went here for the first time on a Saturday evening. We got reservations to sit at the bar and were really thankful you could do that, since our favorite way to dine and not every place allows that. Service was excellent, timely, and friendly. Our bartender/server was very knowledgeable and helpful. All of the plates come out as they are ready, and we enjoyed a steady stream of delicious food. The restaurant is all small plates. The menu isn't extensive but there is still a good variety. We left very satisfied and will definitely be back. We started with a very nice charcuterie board. We enjoyed the roasted cauliflower, the asparagus, the Cornish hen, and the ribeye. We finished off with the olive oil ice cream.

My experience was bizarre! Met friends for early dinner and was excited to be there and experience all that Machete had to offer on a first visit. The dining room was noisy and chaotic. All hard surfaces echoed everything and made conversation an exercise in shouting and leaning forward to listen . Waiter was visibly rushed and not very mindful of refilling some waters and tea at our table... I mean they were empty a long time. The most shocking for me were the prices assigned to the minuscule portions. OMG ! The bread alone was about $9 and was the size of a cup-cake. I thought I was ordering a bread basket to share......very embarrassing.......bizarre! I hear so many lauding this restaurant as excellent but I feel I'm in an altered reality wondering what they're experiencing. It's like the story of "The King's New Clothes" where all are pretending to admire something that isn't there and it takes an unbiased child to call out the truth ....that the King is actually naked. No exquisite fabric was covering him.....and no culinary excellence at Machete is worth what they charge. Sorry.

Let the pictures speak for themselves. Amazing eclectic menu in a fun and vibrant atmosphere near downtown Greensboro. Add this to your dining experience! Our server, Ian, pushed this 5+ star establishment into another zone. His approachable personality and "think outside the box" recommendations made for an amazing dining experience. He asked what we typically like for both food and drink. Most servers will then recommend similar items off of their food/bar menu. He instead recommended items we would never choose, and thank goodness he did. The drinks and food we had because of his recommendations made for a memorable evening. The eclectic tapas style menu has something for any foodie palate. Starting off, I enjoyed a smoked "Mad God." Typically I'd start off with an old fashioned or Manhattan, but this was even better. Bourbon, cognac, porcini, vanilla bean...brought out covered and smoked. Removing the glass topper released the trapped in smoke which stimulated the olfactory nerves, leading into the synaptically connected taste buds. The combination of smell and taste was perfect. Ian, thank you again for leading us outside of our comfort zone. Bonus points to the amazing bartender for setting up this drink the way he/she did. The food. What better way to experience the many options of this amazing chef than a tapas style journey through 7+ courses of perfectly proportioned dishes. Bread service with hopped up butter...amazing. Ribeye carpaccio tostada...heavenly, melt in your mouth tender. Artichoke mushroom with crispy garlic...the flavors just dance on your palate. Lamb belly with leek and lamb jus...as a fan of pork belly and bone marrow, this seems like a combination of both that just can't be beat. Gravlax...can you say smoked salmon on steroids? Roasted cauliflower with goat cheese and tapenade...they all play so well together on this dish. Banana butter cake dessert...such a blissfuly sweet ending to an amazing dinner. If you're a foodie, don't miss this one. (Tip: come on a Friday evening and sit in their counter top area facing the ball park. Front row seating to the fireworks after any Grasshopper Friday night home game)

Celebrated a late Father's Day meal here with my mom and dad. Great wine selection and the server was knowledgeable about the options. A variety of food and small plates at Machete which are all prepared well and taste fresh! We enjoyed everything and I cannot find one thing bad to say about the experience. Recommended and I would love to go back.

Been looking forward to my 500th Yelp review for some time and thinking about the ideal business to review. I decided some time ago to review Machete, since it has been recommended to me so many times over the years. Overall, I give the meal and experience a clear 5-stars, though as I note at the end, we were left with a bad taste in our mouths at the end of the meal. Expectations were high going into this meal and to its credit, Machete delivered. Service was solid (though small plates were coming out of the kitchen a bit fast as we ate early for a show and it was not crowded). Cocktail menu is witty and offers some interesting flavor combinations. I had the "Ya Filthy Animal" -- gin, Jagermeister, amaro Montenegro, and amaretto -- but was also looking hard at "Cal Dodd's Wolverine" -- Islay and blended Scotch, yellow Chartreuse, cardamom, and lemon. I could drink these all day. INTERESTING FLAVOR COMBINATIONS would be the title of this review if I could give it a title. Many of the dishes we ate were fairly standard, but were given non-standard flavor twists. The olives, for example, prepared in red wine and dijon. The cauliflower with pistachios and articoke. The maitake mushrooms and grits with ricotta. Every dish that came out was a novel exploration of flavors. For the "treats" course, we REALLY enjoyed the semifreddo, and not just because we're suckers for Biscoff cookies. We split one but could have eaten 4 even at the end of the meal. And I capped it off with something I had never had before and regretted never having had before: Dumangin J. Fils Ratafia Champenois - which is basically a fortified Champagne. Delicious! At the end of the meal, we were left with a bad taste in our mouths. My wife was looking for a mocktail and asked for a non-alcoholic Bees Knees. Which is club soda, 1/2 ounce honey syrup, and 1 ounce lemon juice. For which we were charged $14 as "Bartender's Choice" drink. Which is complete bulls%@t. I expect a complimentary mocktail next time we visit.

"Do you guys understand small plates?" HAHA I'm just goofing. All this was good and really original: * "bread service" (they say service so they can charge for it lol) * Duck Wings * "gnocco fritto" - Korean rice pasta in spicy sauce * Lamb Belly - zomg * Brococlini * Cauliflower * artichoke in bernaise * ice cream sandwich * banana dessert thing Also I got a smoked rye/cognac cocktail that was excellent. Service was knowledgable and attentive. About $160 per couple with tax and tip which is typical for this type of modern Casual-Fine Dining.

A celebration dinner fit for royalty. In a very informal industrial setting that looks more like a burger and bar joint, lies a 5 star elegant experience. Michelin star worthy. Service was very on point and intuitive and had ready our bar drinks we requested when I made our reservation. Phenomenal service. I don't say this lightly or ever before. The food was as good as the service for the most part. The miss was the bread and compound butter. Too hard and crusty bread, too heavily on the herbs. I would rate the bread course a 2. All other courses were 6 plus plates! When you wake up still thinking about the dishes you tasted the night before you know that restaurant was a home run. Try it all!

Eclectic, fresh, unique This restaurant is different from any other place in Greensboro. The food is presented beautifully! It's not just a meal, it's a work of art. You need to love small plates, and trying different foods to enjoy this meal - the way it should be enjoyed. I've been se real times- and have loved it every time. This visit was a beer pairing- very cool and informative. Service is impeccable!! Make reservations!!

The day after cooking, a massive Thanksgiving dinner, what I didn't want... Was turkey! So, after a run to Wegmans, we decided to make a stop at machete. What a good decision on my part. (I'm full of them) :-D Machete is a low-key, high-end establishment. When you walk in the lighting is dim and the servers are friendly, but reserved. Everyone is there to make sure your stay is a pleasurable one... from the person seating you to the person serving you to the person busting the tables and refilling the water glasses. The experience is definitely refined. The food is sometimes surprising and consistently tasty. There were highlights, but no true lows. A Standout for me was the corn dish which was made on a tapioca crisp with chili powder. It was surprising and delightful. Definitely a dish that would bring me back. The meatballs were very good as were the gnocchi, although for the gnocchi, some sort of texture would have been nice. Everything on the plate was soft or creamy, and the contrast would have made a great difference. The duck wings were crispy and well seasoned. Our steak came out undercooked and the kitchen did correct it, but it took a very long time for the correction to take place so that did interrupt the service flow a bit, but everything was handled very graciously. Another surprising, highlight, was the carrots. When the plate came out, you wouldn't even have recognized that they were carrots, and my daughter happens to hate carrots. But she ate this dish like like it was anything but carrots. She loved it, and so did I. It was a perfect balance of unique flavors that surprised your pallet at every turn. If you're looking for a new experience in the Greensboro area, I would recommend machete without hesitation. It's an experience to be had, and it is well worth the price. I'm sure we will be back.

Took hubby here for his birthday. It was our first time. Based on the reviews I had high hopes. It was my mistake that I didn't realize it was a tapas style restaurant. The three of us were starving so the expensive items were too small for us to really share. The carrots were flavorful. The bread was good. The gnocchi was very good. Just not enough. I wish they had a full plate option. We ended up stopping somewhere else on the way home. It's a great place for a gathering and if you want a pricey appetizer style dining experience but we probably won't be back.

Machete has been on my list, and my boyfriend took me out for a date night, and I was so excited! Great place for a date, special occasion, or even a business meeting. The interior is modern, chic, and upscale, and the food was no different. We came on the last day of the restaurant serving their summer menu, so there are quite a few items on the menu that they were out of, but our server helped recommend alternatives, and she did not disappoint. The cocktail menu is creative and cool, and both of us enjoyed what we got. As far as food, they serve small plates that are ideal for sharing, and trying a few different things on the menu. My boyfriend and I are huge fans of Gordon Ramsay's masterchef, and the plating for the dishes was definitely fine dining level. Of course everything is on the pricier end for the more upscale experience, but overall we both really enjoyed our first visit here, and cannot wait to come back!

Had such a fantastic date night for the special Yokai event! Although we had a slight reservation complication at the event we still had such an amazing night and the staff/service made up for the inconvenience. The food was amazing and served promptly to us. Our drinks came out fast as well. The fried chicken was so crispy! and the dark chicken meat used for the katsu gave it so much flavor. Even though they were busy the staff managed to be working efficiently together to serve everyone well! I am excited to come back and try machetes regular menu !

This was my second time eating here and enjoyed it. I would have given it five stars but I wanted the mussels and garlic butter sauce with toasted rye bread to a bit more moisture in the sauce and bread. I found the toasted bread too hard for the purposes of soaking up the sauce and think that maybe the sauce was too thick so the bread didn't soak it up. The maitake mushroom dish was not the prettiest but it tasted amazing and we wanted to savor every bite. Absolute favorite was the cod.

Machete is a blast. The food is always on point and the cocktail menu is themed and inviting in a creative way with every update. My only fuss is that upper upper management, while very warm with long time guests, often loses track of space and becomes very loud with tables he knows. It's a frustration to be sat beside a table of intimate regulars for that 6-10 minutes management spends with them. It's awesome to see, no doubt, but there's no having a conversation at your own table if he's hitting it off with someone beside you. No star deductions over it though. Warmth is excellent, just may require some small metering of said warmth at times.

The food was amazing!! I loved the pork belly and the deviled eggs! I would order both again. The tomato tart wasn't bad but not my favorite. The duck wings were tasty but a little overcooked maybe but again, super tasty! The lemon drop and cosmo were both very tasty but tiny!! The bread was amazing but at $8 for 2 rolls...uhhh. You're going to spend a bit ($200 here) but I would go back on a random day, why not... The taste is a strong 5. The prices a 4. The Service, a strong 5. The Ambiance was cool and relaxed so I say a 5. Please check them out!

We had the most delightful dining experience at Machete. From start to finish, every dish was a culinary masterpiece. Let's start with the cocktail--Pan-Galactic - an interesting blend of flavors and presentation that set the tone for the evening. We had the broccolini, which was a delightful twist on a classic vegetable. The vibrant colors and fresh flavors made it a standout dish, perfectly complemented by the chef's creative seasoning. Then, on to the rib eye. Cooked to perfection. The marbling on the meat was just right, enhancing every mouthful with rich, savory goodness. The attention to detail in every aspect of the meal, from plating to taste, was truly commendable. The ambiance of the restaurant added to the overall experience, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere.

"Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me" is what comes to mind reflecting on my experience at Machete. I wish I could say tonight's experience was a fluke but since this is now my 3rd visit, I feel it's not. Machete states that they "aim to delight and arouse the senses without being pretentious" yet pretentious is actually exactly what sums it up. There's a lot of hype but they miss the mark on delivery. Tonight I was able to see and taste nearly everything on the menu including bread service (two muffin sized "loaves" of bread for 10 people), marinated olives (one of two tasty items), grilled pineapple (limp and overdone), tostones (my Colombian mother in law would cringe and the person who ordered it didn't even want to finish it...there were only 3), charcuterie (choices weren't even on par with what I buy at Costco), fennel (featuring smoked duck - but was it even visible?), zucchini (literally one slice of a zucchini on a plate for $14!!!!), octopus, duck wings (double fried=double burnt), Denver steak and rainbow trout (not even warm, zero flavor). Perhaps they save the chefs for when critics come and put anything on a plate for their regular "guests". Speaking of guests, I would also add that they are not accommodating. Our party of ten was shoved at a table that would accommodate 8. Two people were eating on the corners which didn't provide the "communal experience" they promote. The host of our party addressed this multiple times with Machete prior to our arrival but they would not provide any more accommodation despite the fact that the two tables in front of us remained empty until shortly before we left. I'm prepared to pay for good food but the prices charged for these dishes that simply did not meet the mark is just offensive. There are better restaurants in Greensboro, so save your money. Update to add: In addition, I checked my CC this weekend and they overcharged me by more than the amount of my original bill.

Snacks: Grilled Pineapple & Nappa Cabbage Plates: Duck Wings The snacks were my favorites. They came out smelling delicious and the first bites matched the aroma. The drink also hit. The duck wings were overrated to me. I only ate one of them while at the restaurant because I didn't enjoy the flavor. I think the duck wings tasted better at room temperature when I tried them again later that same night. The staff was friendly and attentive. I chose my menu items from their recommendations. If I come back it'll be for drinks and ambiance. Note: It was explained to me that duck wings stays on their menu but how it is seasoned/presented does change over time; therefore, I included what the menu was at the time I ordered.

So it's a nice place , friendly staff , I Ordered Cornish hen,came with pickles. it was good but it was like eating one small piece of fried chicken and its only side was 5 round pickle slices . I also ordered the fingerling potatoes. They said lightly fried I had more than one that were burnt to a crisp and they still served it . They definitely were considerate and removed it from my bill.Now the ones I did eat were good . The water they serve is just plan horrible I took one sip and almost spit it back in the glass , definitely would have if there were not so many people around . In all I left still hungry . If you're looking for a light meal and time to enjoy with friends , then possibly try the place out . If your looking for a meal your going to be ordering a few more things on the menu cause the portions are not filling. And you're going to be spending some money. Good luck

Three of us went here a few nights ago. Our server Brian guided our culinary adventure. It was fantastic. We shared: Tostones with ceviche (little cups of plantains filled with ceviche and topped with a cilantro/lime foam). It was such a great combination Shishito peppers Duck wings- my favorite of the night!! Crispy outside but super tender and juicy on the inside Fennel with smoked duck Unagi - eel Risotto with sweet peas and goat milk. So creamy but the goat milk added a different element that I loved. Finishing with the Roasted strawberry miso cake with Pink PEPPER on top!! I loved the heat from the pepper. What a great idea!!! Their drinks are very creative and fun! I had Wasps don't make honey and my friend had I Love Jimmy Buffet- hers was the favorite. I highly recommend this place if you are adventurous and want a fun and delicious experience.

Such amazing and different flavors at this restaurant!! All the food was great the only thing was the steak tartare was lacking a bit of flavor and was very garlic salt tasting. The rest was phenomenal especially the beet dish and the ice cream! Our waitress was also super helpful in explaining everything and letting us know how much food was the right amount. Really beautiful restaurant!

Excellent, delicious food. Great bar and seasonal cocktails. Love the vibe and the fact that the dishes come out as they're ready. It's a small plates / family style culinary experience. Can get a bit pricey, but everything in the menu is good and flavorful. Typically need a reservation.

My partner and I came back to try their Winter menu during Valentine's weekend. The service, interior design, and mood were amazing as always. We got the bread service, duck wings, frog legs, seared beef tartare, sun choke, and broccolini. Overall the food was great but did not blow us away compared to when we first at their during their previous summer menu. Regardless, we will continue to come and eat here since the quality of their food and service is always amazing. Our favorite definitely was the seared beef tartare that was served with puffed rice chips. It was so flavorful with the perfect amount of greens and citrus to balance the dish. The broccolini was also our favorite which had a great smokey flavor and a delicious garlic-y sauce on top. Next was the sun choke, was is in the potato family and was so delicious, tender, and was also served with a citrus-y sauce that balanced the entire meal. Overall a great dinner, Machete never disappoints.

Okay this time around I would definitely give this place 5 stars. This time was much more of an enjoyable experience and we didn't get any drinks this time either. Last time I felt like my alcohol choices weren't pairing very well with our food choices. Food was delicious, service was excellent, really couldn't have been happier.

My first visit to Machete was better than I imagined. When I saw the early pictures, I worried the servings would be too small, there would be too many foams, and overly fancy touches that cost more than they tasted. Instead, I found the food to be of the highest quality, imaginatively created, and exquisitely presented. Instead of a traditional dinner, my friends and I opted for variety and spontaneity. We ordered a variety of tapas, what Machete calls "Snacks" and "Plates". Our first dishes included Bread Service (soft bread rolls with butter and honey), Dolmas (al dente dirty rice and pear -- not your ordinary Greek dolmas), Tostadas (mini in size, but richly blended with complementary flavors), and the Corn (wild looking tapioca creations with the perfect touches of herbs). And drinks! I started with the S-M-R-T -- vodka with sesame, miso, apple and cardamom. It was a little too spiced for me. I'm a simple drinker. I like vodka gimlets. It tasted like a vodka-y apple pie. Even if it wasn't exactly what I was after, the vision and creativity were there. I also loved, loved, LOVED the drink names. If your date is running thin on topics to discuss, the drink list will perk it up: "You'd Better Run, Eggs", "Inflammable Means Flammable?", "I Eated the Purple Berries", and more. We moved on to more Plates. I guess we arrived two weeks after the new fall menu went into effect, so the servers were still perfecting all the descriptions. I am glad they did. For instance, the Carrot Dish is just called "Carrot", but it was by far the most delicious carrot dish I've eaten. The server explained they were "Sous vide", and served on top of a "mash" or bed of smoked walnuts. It's odd for me to think the best dish I ordered, among a dozen dishes, was the carrots, but these were exquisite. The smoked walnuts were delicious on their own (who needs carrots?). I could eat that dish once a week for the rest of my life. We ordered the meatballs, gnocchi, flank steak, and the celery, or celeriac, the last being my second favorite dish. The celery root was scalloped, layered with butter and herbs, and was amazing. If you are a meat eater who likes vegetables, or a vegetarian who needs variety, the vegetables here are treated with immense care. This dish was succulent, layered with flavor, rich. I visited Machete at the end of September. The weather was perfect, so we sat outside. There is an easy, comfortable, classy vibe here, and I was able to talk with friends without raising my voice. A warm vibe resonates throughout. It's beautifully decorated. And there is a fabulous, fully stocked bar that was just plain pretty to look at. Machete feels like a high-end restaurant you could find in San Francisco, NY, or Los Angeles, but with no pretention, better prices, and a little North Carolina charm. Next time I am in Greensboro, I'm darting straight to Machete. (And then zipping over to drink more drinks at the owner's new local, cozy-fun bar, Yokai.)

I came for the hype, and left a happy customer. We had 4 in our party and I would recommend going with a group you don't mind scooping off the same plate as you're going to want to share everything. We got about 11 plates so we got to try a good amount of diversity. Our favorites were the pork belly, lamb croquette, and duck wings but every plate was tasty and creative. The staff was very knowledgeable and ever present. They brought out our plates at just the right time each time. I also got a mixed drink that was a smoky bourbon drink. I can't remember the name. It's designed to taste like a hamburger. I got some of that but mostly just really enjoyed it as a smoky bourbon drink. I would definitely get that again

I was thoroughly surprised by this area of Greensboro and this restaurant in particular. Walkable breweries with live music, a cool little cocktail bar next door for pre or post drinks and of course great food and booze here at Machete. I had a busy weekend teaching a mushroom class not too far from town and I was told this was the place to go to for locally sourced ingredients. I walked up solo and asked for a seat at the bar and they said nothing available for an hour. I walked a block or 2 to a brewery with some live music and then had a quick cocktail next door before getting my text that my seat was ready. The drink menu is much larger than the food menu and I think that is a great thing! I want a few food options done well. I want the sky to be the limit on my drink options. Ironically, I talked to the bartender and he made me a drink that wasn't even on the menu. Kind of a whisky sour with an egg foam on top, delicious! It was late and I had already gotten a snack and had some beers, so I didn't need to order much food. I ordered the shishito peppers which were tempura fried and had a very tasty little dipping sauce. I also ordered the carpaccio nacho. Raw beef on a big home made chip with cotija cheese and other accoutrements. Unique and quite tasty! I really liked this place, it will certainly be on my list of recommendations if anyone asks me about Greensboro and will be up there on my own list next time I am in town.

Machete has a staff of professionals that are well verse at cocktails, deserts and the Picasso's equivalent in the culinary aspect. The portions are Tapas influenced so be prepared as this is not your traditional filling of the plate type place. You get to explore your senses with each dishes that have cause their menu also changes. Bringing in challenges and innovation which gives the restaurant the flare of creation. The staff here are knowledgable, and helpful in pairing or creating your experience for you. Its definitely a great place to create an experience between the human senses.

Machete remains one of our absolute favorite restaurants in Greensboro!! Their menu is always inventive and delicious. The drinks are delightful and unique. Truly can't go wrong with anything off of their menu. On this visit we ordered the shrimp in grits, which were a fun spin on the traditional. We ordered the foie gras, it was so tasty, you wouldn't even know what it was! Duck wings as always were out of this world. The toro was outstanding and full of flavor. The rabbit ravilolo was so good! Everything was a home run. Can't wait for our next visit!

I found MACHETE when searching for chefs and restaurants in Georgia and North Carolina that made the 2022 James Beard Awards lists of semifinalists: https://bit.ly/3HzqaCq. MACHETE was a semifinalist for Best New Restaurant (the business opened in February 2020). Having grown up in the Triad, I was a bit surprised to see a restaurant in Greensboro make the list. I had to check it out. MACHETE also made Yelp's Top 100 US Restaurants 2022: https://bit.ly/3Hl99O9. On Yelp's list, MACHETE ranked 18th in the country. Impressive. Did MACHETE live up to the hype? In short, yes. If you love food, drinks, and dining out, MACHETE should be at or near the top of your list in the Triad. We really enjoyed our experience here. The food and drink were delicious and the service was great. MACHETE had a lot of attention to detail nailed down. From the types of shades used before sunset to the eucalyptus-treated moist towelettes offered to clean our hands after a particular dish, those little things are what set these kinds of places apart. This is the kind of restaurant you'd expect to find in a bigger, more cosmopolitan city. As we ate, one of my dining companions commented that MACHETE reminded him of places he and his wife recently ate at in Chicago. For me, coming from Atlanta, it reminded me of a lot of the New American, farm-to-table restaurants that have opened there over the past 15 years or so. Same idea -- constantly-changing menus featuring unique, creative dishes and cocktails utilizing seasonal ingredients. I haven't dined out enough in the Triad to know if there's anything comparable to and at MACHETE's level, but I can't imagine there are more than a handful (in the fine dining - contemporary category). I booked our Saturday 7:15pm reservation 10 days in advance. At that time, only "lounge" tables were available, which ended up being perfect for us. What MACHETE calls their "front lounge" is a fully-covered and enclosed front patio. During our visit, the weather was nice so the storefront's two garage doors were fully retracted up. Our dinner had a relaxing al-fresco feel to it. Towards the end of the night, we - and everyone else on the patio - were treated to an amazing, long fireworks show across the street at the Greensboro Grasshoppers' ballpark, First National Bank Field. The fireworks shows happen regularly and MACHETE's patio happens to be a perfect place to watch them. Aside from the lounge (patio), MACHETE also offers seats inside in their dining room and at the bar. Your mileage may vary because another time, I looked for Saturday dinner reservations only 3 days out and plenty of times were available for the lounge, dining room, and bar. When we visited, the menu had 7-8 snacks, 14 plates, and 5+ treats (desserts). The drink menu was extensive. Below is what 4 of us shared. It should also give you an idea on pricing. Sharing is encouraged. Cocktails: * F*** About & Find Out ($17) - basil rum, mezcal, Red Boat, orange blossom, coconut, lime * You Asked For It ($13) - vodka, cold brew, cream, orange, cocoa, ancho * Smoked Manhattan ($16) - rye, Dopo Teatro, decanter bitters, cherry wood * Old Fashioned x2 Snacks: * Lettuce Wrap ($7) - mushroom, pine nut, crouton * Roasted Olives ($7) - red wine, orange Plates: * Pork Ribs ($12) - chili, peanut, lime * Asparagus ($10) - coconut, Calabrese, breadcrumb * Duck Wings ($15) - sumac, pepper * Roasted Cauliflower ($13) - tomatillo, pepita * Scallop ($34) - Asiago, chorizo, morel * Grilled Wagyu ($44) - black garlic, maitake Treats: * Horchata ($12) - dark chocolate, pineapple, raspberry * Strudel ($12) - strawberry, malted milk * Lemon Poppy Seed Cake ($12) - mint, pistachio, marshmallow I tried all of the cocktails, but the Old Fashioned, and they were all fantastic. Well-balanced, flavorful, and strong. My friend who got the Old Fashioneds said his were nice and strong too. Outstanding presentation also, from the fun tiki glass of the F*** About & Find Out to the large, fluffy cream top of the You Asked For It. My favorite dishes were the Lettuce Wrap, Scallop, and Grilled Wagyu. I love mushrooms and the lettuce wraps (3) had 3 different kinds of them: beech, cremini, and maitake. The scallops (5-6) came with mushrooms as well (morel). That dish had a delectable cream sauce in addition to plump, succulent scallops. The Wagyu was cooked rare to medium rare and served sliced. Tender, tasty, and excellent quality. Both the Pork Ribs and Asparagus were quite good, though the ribs were a bit too salty. The Duck Wings had wonderful flavor, but weren't as tender and meaty as I was hoping. I liked all 3 of the Horchata, Strudel, and Lemon Poppy Seed Cake equally. All were yummy. My least favorite dish was the Roasted Olives, but still, not bad. Our server Zack, the hostess, and all other staff we interacted with were terrific. The only thing they could've done better service-wise was clear the used plates from our table faster and more frequently.

Excellent service! Beautiful atmosphere! Vegetarian options. Small plates to share with the table. Fresh ingredients... I will be back! I want to try their cocktails!

Perfect restaurant in every way, always a pleasure going for all my special events. Bar service is great, food is excellent. Fresh as possible

Service - excellent. Wait staff (including hostess) was extremely knowledgeable about each dish. Delightful and friendly. Food - very good! Thoughtful. Clearly prepared with care. Menu changes seasonally, except for the duck wings which are a delicious staple. Best surprise - ordered the sesame cake with coconut and peaches. Out of this world! Hands down best part of the experience. As it turned out the pastry chef, Lydia Greene, is #1 in the state. Don't skip dessert!

Went there for the first time and it's a perfect little place for a cozy dinner. The small plate 'tapas like' concept style menu serves well for your appetite to try a few different things. The smoked mussels were awesome, as well as the duck carnitas and the pork loins. The fois gras was also done to perfection and we weren't disappointed with the snacks and plates menu. The bread with Seagrass butter was amazing too, and paired well with the chateau cambon Beaujolais we tried. The service was pleasant and the place was packed for a weekday. We got the patio counter seating in the corner and it was perfect for our dinner date. The whole place had a cozy vibe and the ambience was lit. Will definitely revisit.

Warning: This contains potentially offensive language. Jesus Christ, this is in the top 3 meals I've have in my life. The portions are small, but that's all you need, because the food is literally like OxyContin transformed into food form. The chef has descended from the heavens to bring you the finest of dining, to completely overwhelm your sensory capacities. This isn't food, it's art. I almost literally burst into tears of ecstatic joy. Price is not an issue. Come for your anniversary, birthday, etc and leave with the everlasting memories. Do yourself a favor. Get one of their unique, fantastic cocktails as well.

This place is usually packed. I looked for an appointment for friday night on a Monday and could only find a 5 PM table in the lounge room, so I would suggest you start looking early specfile if you want to be seated inside in the cozier seating area. The food was good enough for the price point they charge and the ambience, I wouldn't say it blew my mind. It was Tapas style and the service was very quick. Our server Ash was really helpful in explaining and answering our questions related to the menu as it is a little vague. There are not a lot of food options on the menu, so I wouldn't go if I were a picky eater. As is the case usually with these kinds of fancy places, you do feel the portion sizes could be bigger but well I signed up for this so no complaints. The ambience was amazing, they had dim lighting and ae felt completely away from the hustle busyle of the street in the lounge room and were at peace. We were celebrating a birthday and they gave us a free scoop of ice cream which we loved.

What an experience! The food was amazing. One of my favorite meals. The staff was also excellent and service was impeccable. Im going to break down all the meals we had in order from our favorite starting at the top. It appears some of the menu items do change based off previous menus posted. 1. kurobuta pork collar : potato . manchego . seared foie: Pureed potatoes topped with perfectly cooked pork collar. The pork and foie were excellent and pair well with the manchego. Melts in your mouth. 2. crudo* : salmon . citrus . trout roe: Thinly sliced and lightly cured salmon in a light sweet smoky citrus sauce and topped with smoked trout roe and blood orange. Wow what a great combination of flavors. Hits every note and the citrus was well balanced. 3.duck wings : honey bbq: Larger portion. Duck is a darker meat and the honey bbq coating is excellent, just the right amount of smoky, sweet, savory and heat. This is a must! One side note is it is a little messy but worth it. 4. banana beignet : butterscotch . roasted banana: Just look at the photo for this one; it says it all. I mean wow. 5. blue crab : yuzu calamansi . sesame . cucumber: Light dish with a considerable amount of blue crab topped with thinly sliced cumbers on top. The crab and cucumber really stand out. 6. fernet menta malt bar : chocolate mousse . brownie brittle: Very good. The fernet menta really comes through. More of a soft brownie texture. Honestly I'd prefer a bit more crunch but that's personal preference. One thing to note is the dishes are smaller and I would recommend for a group or couple trying and sharing different dishes. Also please ask the server if you have ANY questions. Our server, Bryan, was great to recommend dishes and explain each one. Way to go Machete. New favorite place and yes I will be back!

Extremely gracious customer service. Conspicuously well curated cocktail menu. Small-bites and tapas menu rich and varied, but I thought pricey and unsubstantial. Great spot for drinks and a nibble, but not an evening out for dinner.

5+stars, fantastic meal only loses points for crowded dining/privacy issues. Our server was top-notch and explained every detail of every dish. Duck wings and roasted maitake were both stand-out dishes. Artistically presented. Without a doubt the best meal I've had in the Triad area. The only challenge is that my business partner and I were seated at a tiny table just 24 inches away from a solo diner who kept looking at us like she was bothered when our conversation was above whisper level. The strange part is that we were there for a very early dinner, and there were only two other parties in the entire restaurant.

Overpriced. Not good. Bad atmosphere. NOPE. We came at 5:30 and many empty tables - hostess then seated a loud couple right next to us when the entire place was empty. An overrated wannabe restaurant. If you want a thimble size portion of food for a lot of $$$ this is your place .

Brian has the most patience ever! One member of our party had several questions about the restaurant and menu options. Food was awesome. The ambiance was a little loud for a Wednesday evening to the point we had to yell to each other. Overall had a great evening.

I first found this restaurant on yelp, but it was not my first choice. When we called our first restaurant for a reservation and found they were booked up for 4 hours, we went here. Some of the things that threw me off were the menu and the name. First things first, the name doesn't matter at all. Second, the menu is, in their own words, "purposefully vague". The whole idea is to create relationships through food, and the waiters accomplish this greatly. Every single waiter, I'm saying EVERY SINGLE WAITER in the ENTIRE restaurant visited us at some point. Now to the food! We started off with the bread, which was homemade sourdough bread with some homemade butter, ate two plates (the potatoes were supreme) and finished with an ice cream flight. They had one sherbet flavor that was made with coconut milk instead of milk and it tasted like it was made with pure cream. All the ice cream was so rich it was hard to eat. The restaurant was extremely clean, and was contemporary/modern style decorated. Their cocktail options were hilarious and their whole atmosphere was just very inviting. (Those waiters...wow) When we left (we had only eaten two plates but felt like we ate ten) four waiters wished us a good night. Talk about amazing service! This restaurant is a great overall pick in Greensboro, and is great for anybody, kids, no kids, vegetarians, and even teens.

My lovely lady took me out for my 35th birthday for a tour of food greatness. From the minute we walked in the hostess was amazing and directed us to the bar next door for a nice cocktail since we were early. From the minute we sat down with our food Sherpa Brian we were in for a treat. For a person who has has food all over the country I was literally blown away by the flavor journey me and my girlfriend embarked on. I recommended this amazing establishment to anyone that wants their socks blown off when it comes to culinary excellence.

Just go here. This is easily the most creative restaurant in Greensboro. The Beard foundation hype was definitely earned. Food rotates seasonally and is fun, playful, and always delicious. Cocktails range from creative and off-the-wall to superbly executed classics. Service is predictably good. Staff is well-acquainted with even the more complex dishes and provides solid recommendations and prompt service. Have eaten here several times and never had the same meal twice or a bad experience.

Machete started as a supper club among friends before getting a brick and mortar in 2020 then being named a semifinalist for a James Beard for best new restaurant in 2022. The amount of care and finesse they put into their food, their cocktails, their staff, and their atmosphere is phenomenal. We had reservations for 6:30 PM on a Wednesday. Reservations are for 2 hours to a. Allow yourself time to enjoy your meal and b. Allow others time to get in to enjoy theirs. We immediately ordered cocktails and a slew of snacks. Our waiter, Art, took our order and staggered our snacks so they came out with perfect timing. Before the last of our snacks came, we ordered a few rounds of plates. After our meal, we ordered dessert and more cocktails. It was amazing, the dishes were beautiful, and I can't wait to see what they come up with next! This place NEVER disappoints. The food, drinks, atmosphere, and service are always impeccable. This is one of my most favorite restaurants. It's not just food, Machete is a whole experience. Each dish is unique, fresh, and flavorful and the presentation is equally as satisfying as the taste. In the past, I've been a fairly picky eater when it comes to strange flavor combinations or sauces that aren't ranch dressing. Machete broke me of that. The two times I've gone, I was lucky enough to go with people who weren't looking to pinch pennies. We ordered almost every single dish on the menu both times. Making myself take a bite of each thing, no matter how odd I thought the flavor combinations were, was the best decision I've ever made. Aside from marrying my husband, which is the only reason I'm in Greensboro and able to eat these delicious meals! Seriously though, the combinations they devise are incredible. The clams with a tomatillo sauce? Never would I ever have thought that'd be so delicious! One of my absolute favorites in this group of pictures was the lamb bacon pasta. I had to be reminded by my group that this wasn't the kind of place where I could ask for the recipe. (If anyone from the kitchen is reading this, feel free to DM me). I highly recommend the roasted cauliflower, the new potato curry, and the wagyu beef as well! If I went on, I'd just be repeating the words delicious, amazing, flavorful, and incredible so please, just take my word and make a reservation!

My favorite place in all of GSO. The drinks and bar are always spectacular. I have enjoyed every menu so far. This is the spring menu. We stopped in and sat at the bar in a split decision. No plan we just wanted to enjoy their vibe, drinks, and some damn good plates.

My fiancé and I hadn't been to Machete since one of our very early dates so we were excited to come back! On this day, they had only rolled out their new menu 4 days prior. We sat at the bar, I love to watch drinks being made. First, I absolutely loved my cocktail. It was called Kiyo Says it's Okay. The cinnamon stick really made the drink. For an appetizer we had the burrata and potato. The burrata was delicious. I was nervous because I don't love beets, but they weren't too earthy and went well with the burrata. The potato was simple but delicious. I loved how crispy it was. Next, we got duck wings. They were very flavorful and so filling that we ended up not ordering any entrees. We opted for dessert and I was in the mood for chocolate! The fernet menta malt bar hit the spot. I can't wait to come back again soon. I'm also really looking forward to the ramen restaurant opening!

What's there to say about Machete that hasn't already been said? It's one of the hottest restaurant's in the area and for good reason. The menu is innovative and offers a selection like you will not find anywhere else. The service is wonderful and the vibe is superb. We ended up celebrating our anniversary twice just to have a reason to visit again! The first time we visited on a weekend because we don't usually go out much during the work week, but after enjoying it so much, we decided to make an exception and book a reservation for our actual anniversary as well. Both visits were wonderful but I have to say, I believe the second was even better because we decided to branch out and try more adventurous options. The carnitas and fried rice were a must both trips. The flavors of both were something I would order again and again. The duck wings were something I expected to like more from reading reviews but personally, I would pass on them. They were seasoned well but pretty dry. We had the potatoes on our second trip and they're yet another dish I would return to order. The depth of flavor and cheesy goodness combined to make a spectacular dish. The steak was pretty good as well but on our second visit, we decided to try the monkfish and were happily surprised by how much we enjoyed it. I don't know about you, but I've seen it appear many times on episodes of Chopped just due to how unappealing it looks coming out of those baskets. I had to take the opportunity to try it for myself since I have yet to see it featured on a menu and let me just tell you, I will order it again and again! The texture is unlike most fish. It's more meaty. It's honestly hard to describe but our waitress informed us they had just changed the way it was prepared the night we visited and I'm not sure about the previous preparation but they knocked it out of the park that night! I'm hoping to visit again before the menu changes, just to order that dish. It was hard to top such a wonderful selection but they somehow manage with their desserts. I'm not one to usually save room but after having the pumpkin mocha dessert on our previous visit, I just had to have it again. It packs a powerful coffee punch that we weren't quite prepared for the first visit. My husband isn't a coffee fan so he found out the hard way to steer clear of the brown mousse on that plate. He decided this visit to test out one of the ice creams and here is where we really hit the jackpot. They had just created a fruity pebble ice cream to premiere that evening. It was absolutely delicious and I truly hope they will keep it on the menu permanently. It was the perfect end to an epic meal and we have both been dreaming of returning before the menu changes again to order the exact same things just one more time.
