I spent months researching Miami hotels before I finally stumbled upon this gem. I already trust The Proper name and the fact that it's a recently restored art deco property sounded so exciting!
My expectations were sky high, yet they were still surpassed! Everything about our stay was more than perfect. We were promptly greeted outside (side note: maybe avoid the cabs at the Miami airport. Was more expensive than an uber, there was no A/C, and the fumes were awful). The lobby was beautiful, there was no line at the counter, and we were given cold water. They took our bags up to our upgraded room right away and gave us a little tour.
The room was very clean and well decorated, as I've come to expect from the Proper. And of course, always stocked with Aesop products. We also had some surprises waiting for us that we really appreciated! The staff and management truly went above and beyond to make our stay special and perfect.
The next day we used the gym, which was decently sized for a hotel gym. Everything was very clean and looked brand new.
Then we visited the pool and the beach -- WOW! I commend the Proper for keeping as much of the original architecture as they reasonably could have, especially the beautiful high dive. It's only there for decoration (can't blame them, people would definitely hurt themselves), but is such a beautiful structure that really anchors the time travelling vibe. Plus, they have Super Goop sunscreen available at the pool and beach (as a sunscreen connoisseur, this is a great brand).
To get to the beach, an employee takes you down the short path and checks you in with the beach staff. They asked us about our preference for where we wanted to sit. It wasn't crowded at all so we had our pick of chair/umbrella setups. We stayed at the beach for a while and had such a great time. The water was so clean and warm. I've been to Miami beaches before but somehow everything seemed brighter, cleaner, and more beautiful. Watching the shimmering ocean from the shady lounge chairs is a memory I'll forever cherish.
The only hiccup is that we had late checkout but the cards are still programmed to automatically stop working at 11am, so we had to awkwardly walk to the street and into the lobby from the beach to get the cards turned back on so we could access the property. As far as hiccups go, this one was very small and did not cloud our fantastic experience.
Finally, we took the private car service to our next stop. The car was extremely nice and the driver was super friendly and helpful! We could not have asked for a better experience.
