What Is Himalayan Cuisine? Chefs Rethink South Asia’s Mountain Foods | Eater

"A series of Bhutanese lodges that immerse guests in local foodways with cooking lessons and foraging trips and serve mountain-specific items such as yak meat carpaccio, heirloom red rice congee, and wild Cordyceps‑infused rice wine, highlighting how lodgings in the region can be both refuges and active sites of culinary transmission." - Rituparna Roy

Amankora (Paro, Bhutan) Hotel Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"Aman properties are nothing if not exclusive; relatively modest in size, if not in the scope of their comforts, they’re priced well out of the reach of the undiscerning traveler, and situated in locations that are highly desirable, yet less than obvious." - Tablet Hotels

fantastic resort very close to tigers nest. This is only about 25 minutes from the international airport and 20 minutes from Tigers nest. It’s a fantastic launchpad to see the rest of Bhutan. The architecture is similar to the other five resorts under this brand throughout the country with an amazing use of wood and stone. It is quite exclusive with only 24 rooms and staff is unbelievable. They are super attentive to your every desire. I’m not sure how they know, but when you leave the room, they know and they’re quick to make it back up so that you have fresh towels are made bed and your laundry taken care of. The food is excellent, but the menu does get a little repetitive. The fun stuff is every night they have a special local activity. It could be calligraphy or prayer flag making or a dance, but they do a great job teaching you about the local culture in the comfort of the lodge. The rooms are separated into individual buildings in each building. Contains four rooms. They are well known as having the largest spa facility in the country with an impressive spa menu. One downfall is not having a mini bar in the room. Anytime you wanted a beverage you needed to call room service or go to the main lodge. The rooms are modern and well lit. The layout is excellent and they’re very spacious. The rain head shower on full flow feels like you’re standing under a waterfall. The bed is comfortable and there are enough pillows for you and half of the town. We really enjoyed our two nights here as we had the opportunity to climb up to tigers nest. If you’re climbing tiger’s nest do your research as it can get difficult depending on the time of year that you go. We definitely recommend this resort and will be back if we ever come back to Bhutan.

We sprung for 7 nights and 8 days of Aman hotels/tour in Bhutan. Everything was truly superior. The all inclusive package included unlimited spirits, free laundry service, tasty meals all day round, superior personal guide and driver for the entire stay, local activities, superior guide, super comfortable small van with seats that fully reclined. They even though of small details like greeting you with a scented damp washcloth when returning from a journey, small gifts, calligraphy demonstration, folk dances, etc, A memorable time .

I recently had the opportunity to fulfill a long-held dreams visiting Bhutan and staying at Amankora Thimphu and Paro. Bhutan has been in my heart for years, and it was through AMAN that I first came to know the country. I’ve always associated the AMAN brand with excellence, and was excited to invest in what I expected to be a truly seamless and unforgettable experience.||To begin, I would like to sincerely thank the team for many memorable aspects of the trip. The natural beauty of the surroundings was breathtaking, the food was exceptional, and the team across both lodges including our guides were warm, kind, and attentive. I also deeply appreciated the romantic BBQ dinner arranged for my husband’s birthday, it was a lovely and thoughtful touch.||That said, I feel it’s important to share feedback on a few serious concerns that impacted our overall experience. I do so as a loyal AMAN guest and someone who holds the brand in very high regard.||Shortly after booking, I received an itinerary that was missing key inclusions. I had to follow up with my travel advisor and your team to ensure that the correct package was applied. While these things can happen, it was an unusual oversight and not something I expected from AMAN.||More concerning, however, was an incident in our room that left me injured and deeply unsettled. While trying to open a window one morning to enjoy the fresh air, a heavy wooden window slammed down directly on my head with great force. I screamed in pain and was in shock, it could have resulted in a serious injury. I had to apply ice and take medication, especially as I was scheduled to hike to Tiger’s Nest within the hour after the hit||Although all of the staff checked on me and kindly offered to call a doctor, I was expecting an official acknowledgment from management,at the very least, a letter or an email the General Manager, to personally address this incident. Given the gravity of the situation, I believe this was not just a matter of service but one of guest safety and negligence.||In addition, I was surprised by the outdated condition of some in-room amenities, most notably the hair dryer. It required continuous pressure to function and repeatedly slipped out of the socket, making it frustrating and even hazardous to use. These kinds of details, while they may seem small, are not what one expects from a property positioned at this level of luxury.||To my surprise, I also noticed a charge for a bath/spa treatment, which I feel should have been waived as a goodwill gesture. When I raised it, it was removed, but I was again disappointed that it hadn’t been addressed proactively.||These experiences left me with mixed feelings. I wanted so much to leave Bhutan with a heart full of gratitude and admiration for AMAN. But instead, I left with a sense of regret…and I find myself wondering whether I should’ve chosen Six Senses instead, something I never imagined saying given how much I love and respect your brand.||I hope you will treat this message with the seriousness and sincerity with which it is written. I am still grateful for many parts of the journey…but I believe this feedback is necessary for AMAN Bhutan to uphold the safety and service standards the brand is known for.||I would welcome a response from your side.||Warm regards,|Maryam

Jaw-dropping views, comfortable lodges, and beautiful surrounding. This Amankora property is definitely prettier and more memorable than the Thimphu one. The entrance is also low-key yet has that ‘wow’ factor. Definitely a great property that goes above and beyond for its guests!

it is the largest and the first-established amankora. it is located 30minutes away from the Paro airport in a very quiet area. it is surrounded by the woods, viewing the dzong and the mountain peaks. The feeling of the Bhutan nature is enchanting. |it is very well positioned to visit the Tiger's nest monastery. the living/bar area is very charming. Amankora rooms are standardised across the different locations. The luxury standards of Aman group are highly respected and the staff is really professional.||Unfortunately privacy is not fully guaranteed without closing the window wooden shutters. this is pity as the view is very relaxing. From my room i saw inside 6 rooms of my neighbours. I would highly suggest to change the window glasses (anti-reflection) or to find a solution by consulting the architect....

You begin your journey to the hotel by walking on soft pine needles through a primeval forest. We stayed at 3 of the Amankora resorts and this one had the friendliest staff and best food. Sangay and Lotay, our guide and driver, were absolutely the best ever! We spent a week with them with endless learning, fun and shared wisdom. I cannot imagine a better hotel experience staying in Bhutan and give them the highest recommendations.

The very first Aman in Bhutan made this stay extra special. Phuntsho and his team made sure that we were pampered.|Amazing hot stone bath, great archery (although i prefer the one in Punakha which was overlooking the rice paddy field) but the path heading up there made it a mystery. Great outdoor bbq / chill out place. The room was the exact same layout that i've had in Punakha and it just felt like home straightaway, just remember to close the window shade if you are heading to the shower!

Another great hotel in Bhutan that I could not recommend more. The rooms are perfect, the best shower ever. The food was excellent and loved the daily activities like a calligrapher. Sitting outside for breakfast was also a real highlight
