The Football Fans' Guide to Cleveland Food

"Nostalgia comes alive at The Rowley Inn in Tremont, adjacent to the famous A Christmas Story house, where owners Jon Oberman and Raphael Rivilla honor Cleveland’s working-class roots with comforting dishes. Their pierogi-and-kielbasa dinner — pierogi stuffed with potato and cheese served with two spicy Hungarian sausages, peppers, onions, and house slaw — is the specialty, and the pub’s long history (roots back to 1906) makes it a cozy spot for fans seeking familiar flavors before or after a big game." - Wendy Pramik

The 20 Best Restaurants In Cleveland - Cleveland - The Infatuation

"This Cleveland institution opens every day at 7am, and cooks up comfort food for third-shift steel mill workers and tourists visiting the famed A Christmas Story House and Museum across the street. The breakfast bangers include avocado toast, bacon-wrapped tater tots, and an omelet stuffed with pierogi and Hungarian kielbasa. There are great latkes (which also happen to be vegan), and the smokehouse mac with pulled pork and peach-bourbon BBQ might just be the highlight of your week. The dining area is small, and the kitchen is even smaller, so enjoy a movie-themed cocktail at the bar while you wait for a table." - kate bigam kaput

We were in Cleveland for a work conference and wanted to take in some of the local sites. We actually came for both, the A Christmas Story house and museum, and Rowley Inn. My wife was on a tour and the guide mentioned that Rowley Inn was a great local place to eat and had been featured on Guy Fieri's Triple D. After visiting the museum, we stopped in for a late lunch. The food was Delicious and the beer selection was plentiful and great! The poutine with kielbasa was amazing with the peppered gravy! I really enjoyed the dish that Guy ate that's featured on the menu and my wife had the perogies with corned beef. The beef was made in house and was so good! We got the bread pudding for dessert and it was equally as delicious!! This is certainly a local treat to eat at and I hope I find myself in Cleveland again just to eat here!

Google
Very nice food! Gluten free options. Unfortunately GF = less food for more money. Very tasty, but slightly disappointing to get one piece of bread in place of a hoagie and having to pay extra for a side to replace the fries. (Polish boy sandwich) My dad liked his Reuben and the Polish boy was tasty.

Google
Amazing little place! Ended up meeting some friends here and randomly picked this spot. Wasn't expecting much since it seemed like a standard bar and grill joint with mid food. But wow! Portions were large, prices were fair, and the food was absolutely delicious! My steak was perfectly cooked to order, and the burger was very good. Will have to come back again since they had some very creative and interesting sounding burgers.

Google
The drinks were affordable and good, and there was a plenty of variety. The staff are absolute pros! And were friendly and always as attentive as you wanted them to be. They seem to know when to ask if you need a new drink, but also won't interrupt your conversation. We didn't get full meals, just shared french fries. And they were good. It's also an LGBTQ+ inclusive and supportive place, evidenced by their decor. Just a great neighborhood bar! We highly recommend starting or ending (or starting AND ending) your visit to the A Christmas Story Hoise with this place.

Google
First heard about Rowley Inn on an episode of Diners Drive-ins and Dives. The food looked phenomenal. It lived up to my high expectations. We had the Loco Moski, a pile of delicious pierogies with beef, onions, and gravy, and the bacon wrapped tots. Both were tremendous and the service was also spot on. Will definitely be going back to try out more dishes next time I'm in the Cleveland area.

Google
Going back! EVERYTHING WAS DELICIOUS, AMAZING AUTHENTIC FLAVORS FROM THE AREA! And right outside of the "A Christmas Story" visitors Mecca! Can't go wrong! Drinks are perfection too! I wanted to stay & hang out with the locals & drink & eat my way through the menu while we chatted & laughed things up!

12/07/25 - Great little place! Joey was an awesome bartender/server. Food was excellent. Would definitely come back.

Sunday brunch here is excellent, and, if you're looking for a truly unique & genuine Cleveland original, i think the Rowley Inn would be hard to beat...

Yelp
Another Triple D joint, another homerun meal in Cleveland! Directly across the street from "A Christmas Story" lies a perfect dive with great eats! My salmon avacado toast was phenomenal. Good sourdough, flavorful dill cream cheese, lots of avocado and salmon. It was hearty and delicious. The star of the show for me were the pickled onions and capers on the toast. Briny acid cut the richness. I got a side of apples, nuts and honey. Very good candied walnuts but (I know this picky) my apples were cut poorly, still had the tough core and seeds, but oh well. The bacon wrapped tots - which Guy Fieri raved about - were definitely worth the hype! So good and I loved the spicy sauce. Such a fantastic breakfast. Get here early. It gets busy fast, and there was a longer wait.

Yelp
Casual, Irish bar with 6 or so tables. We sat at the bar and our bartender and server was sweet. Very attentive and makes you feel at home. I ordered wings: half were Parmesan garlic and the other half were lemon pepper (very salty). I love salt so I don't mind and the wings were a great size and they were crispy.

Yelp
Met up with some friends at Rowley Inn and left with a full and happy tummy! Ordered the strawberry shortcake martini which was creamy and delicious. I got the Clevelander burger which consisted of a burger patty, kielbasa, pierogi with beer cheese and sauerkraut! It was dense but so so good! Service was quick and the atmosphere was very chill!
google avatar

Janice F.

Yelp
Casual bar atmosphere, which is welcoming and serves up homemade bar food. Portions are a big so you better go hungry. Service was friendly. If you're dieting, I wouldn't recommend going there. Lol.
google avatar

Fatboy S.

Yelp
Went here after visiting the Christmas Story house. Busy place but service was friendly and on point. All the food we had was really good. Would return if in the area.
google avatar

Elizabeth G.

Yelp
I was so impressed by the food here! It was recommended to me as "good bar food" but this is far from what I would call bar food! This may be a bar - but they have amazing restaurant style food. I would come here again just for the food. Although the drinks are good too. I should note that the food is definitely not priced as bar food. It's a little on the pricier side, but I can see why. I also really liked the interior. It felt cozy and comfortable. And the staff were really great. Overall rating: 4.8/5 stars
google avatar

Aubrie H.

Yelp
We heard great reviews of this place and they were 100% correct. Located across the street from the Christmas Story house its a perfect place to stop in for food or a drink. They had a nice cocktail and beer menu but their food menu was incredible. The reuben tacos were a large portion size and very delicious. We also tried the potato pancakes and the piergos. Hot delicious and would absolutely return again!
google avatar

Kimberly L.

Yelp
Great neighborhood spot, right across from the Christmas story house! Have tried a few menu items and nothing disappoints. My favorite is the pierogi entree. Mike who is there m-f is an amazing server and another reason to visit.
google avatar

Caroline J.

Yelp
Excellent food and service. Tables are very close together, so why I am bringing it down a star. It is in an old building , so I get you have to make do but just saying! Also the music was super loud for 8:25 on a Friday morning! Food- was all ever good and I might have had the best potato latke ever! Fried nice and crispy! Husband really enjoyed his schnitzel waffle breakfast sandwich. The pancake was also very good! Service was great and coffee was never empty! Would go back!
google avatar

Susan S.

Yelp
Service was phenomenal. Patient when busy. Kind to all. Explained specials. So good. Manhattan with Basil Hayden Rye. 10/10 We had the Diner Drive In and Dives recommended dish called Loco Moski. The pepper gravy is insane!! The pierogis were just ok. Didn't love them- almost tasted old, and I usually do love pierogis. We loved the vibe here. Lots of laughing and joyous people. Would be a 5 - except for pierogi taste.
google avatar

Andrea T.

Yelp
We love the food at the Rowley Inn, especially the vegan options. It allows our entire family a chance to eat breakfast out together. We always call ahead and it takes about 20 minutes to drive to the Rowley Inn. We still had a short wait upon arrival but it wasn't bad. It was Father's Day and it was very busy. We were seated in the back directly over a vent and it was very cold during our entire meal. I asked to move but was told the empty tables were for reservations and there were no moving tables. I was not aware we could make reservations. It seems they take reservations on Mother's Day and Father's Day. Now we know. We were happy with the meal.
google avatar

Lexi M.

Yelp
We were recommended this place for breakfast and was so happy we tried it out. It's directly across from the Christmas Story house so that was cool we got to see that! Their menu is polish themed and the flavors were delicious. I ordered the Loco Moski and my fiancé ordered the Rowley Breakfast. Both were delicious and served hot. Great menu, quick service and delicious food.
google avatar

Yelp
This place was such an exciting surprise for us!!! I can't even tell you how grateful we were for finding it, doesn't look very big from the outside but it's actually pretty big on the inside. We sat at the bar and the bartender was so incredibly helpful and great with suggestions from the menu. The pierogi with the poutine was amazing, the bacon wrapped tots were incredible and I believe I had the Wisconsinite burger had that was excellent!!! Even if you're just passing through Cleveland definitely stop by!
google avatar

Alessandra S.

Yelp
We waited an hour and were so excited to eat here but the food was honestly just okay. I got the chicken and waffles and it was an insane portion but the chicken was kinda bland. The vibe was just a ton of people and bar style.

Gladys S.

Yelp
Food is wonderful , everything I've had there is wonderful ! But is very loud most of the time & parking is almost impossible to get a spot on that one way narrow . Wish they could be a bit less loud also ! Need to find a more quiet time to go there !
google avatar

Tommy C.

Yelp
Another really hipster but trendy bar in the Tremont neighborhood of Cleveland. This one is right across the street from the famous Christmas Story house. The food was excellent. Went on a college football Saturday and they had games on TV. Would 100% return.
google avatar

Micah K.

Yelp
I found this place on Reddit and I must say, this was probably the best brunch that I've ever had. As soon as I wanted into the place, I knew I had found the right place. It's a beautiful neighborhood bar that is large and very clean, yet feels very inviting. The staff was super friendly and made excellent recommendations. Everyone that came into the place was greeted with genuine enthusiasm and hospitality. The food was absolutely amazing! They had one crabcake left and asked if I wanted it as a sandwich or as an appetizer. It was probably one of the best crabcakes I've ever had. Perfectly balanced, plenty of crab meat, and served with a delicious remoulade. The poutine breakfast dish was equally was amazing. The portion size was extremely generous, it was piping hot, all of the flavors culminated in one of my favorite breakfast dishes ever. This is a MUST visit if you are in the Cleveland area!

Yelp
Food was so yummy! Great atmosphere and attentive staff. I can't wait to go back and try something new.

Yelp
The bartender/server was amazing. I love it when I get an employee that not only knows the food but knows the city and can talk about some of its history. I changed my itinerary to go to the Lakeview Cemetery after he mentioned it and spent three hours there. The food was exceptional. I ordered a lot so that I could taste a few things. The pierogis were the best thing I had on my trip. I would love to have this corner bar in my area!
google avatar

J R.

Yelp
Small Bar and Grill in a corner house, we were seated quickly by a friendly staff. Ordered the bacon wrapped tots, schnitzel sammy. Tots were delicious, bacon was crispy and the potatos were well salted and the ranch was great. Ordered the chicken schnitzel sandwich, which was large! Ordered it without tomato and it came with, no big deal picked it off; the sandwhich had mustard but needed more to be present- sandwhich ate a little dry otherwise was good. Food came a bit slow and it was getting busy long after we came in. Drinks stayed topped off and staff was friendly. This was on DDD and we ended up seated near the signed picture, cool bonus in addition to the location across the street.
google avatar

Ailin J.

Yelp
Top brunch in cleveland. I love when I get to come back because breakfast options here are large and more than just classic basic breakfast options. They can get crowded during the weekends but service is so fast and the food comes out quick, it's always a joy to eat here! FYI you can make it a cute day date and walk the towpath around Tremont or even to Ohio city after brunch.
google avatar

John C.

Yelp
Went to brunch in the past couple weeks. Was told 45 minutes for a table. Sure. It was a nice Sunday. Walked around outside. Checked out the Christmas Story museum. They call you when your table is ready. I had the Rowleyquiles described as: Chicken, chorizo, peppers, onions, beans, corn, spicy sofrita sauce topped w/cheddar & pepper jack, 2 over easy eggs, served over home fries, tortilla strips This is the first time I've had pieces of chorizo at a restaurant. It's usually the consistency of ground beef taco meat. Not this. Pieces of chorizo. Large hand cut pieces of everything else in the bowl. It had spice and flavor. Portion was massive and I couldn't finish it. Such a great menu I'll be back. So many other items to try.
google avatar

Morgan S.

Yelp
Awesome people, great drinks, immaculate food, and incredible ambience. If I lived in Cleveland, I'd be a regular. The Polish Boy on their menu is the best of top 10 list I found online, and pierogi pouting with fresh local pierogi in place of fries!? Yes please! Seriously, give this place a try if you're in the neighborhood to check out the Christmas story house.
google avatar

Dan C.

Yelp
What an eclectic menu. Cleveland shrimp and grits can only rate a ten out of ten! Had to take away 1/2, which is enough for another meal. My wife had the chicken paprikas over three pirogies, with easily half a chicken breast and sausage on top. The waitstaff is excellent, and the atmosphere is Pub-Cool. We like Arnold, "will be back." Lord willing, after all, I'm vintage Irish, still married to my first wife!
google avatar

Kim P.

Yelp
We loved this place! Very quaint and it's right across the street from the Christmas Story house! The wait staff were friendly and the food and drinks were also very tasty!! We got two of the Christmas Story inspired drinks and a couple appetizers. We highly recommend this place and if we're ever in town again, we'll definitely be back!
google avatar

Safia S.

Yelp
I was craving a burger and google told me this was the place to go. It's a nice place with very traditional fare. Service was pretty slow. Although my burger was good, I wouldn't say it's the best. The Perogi's were very nice. Meatloaf was also pretty standard.

Giselle P.

Yelp
Back again. The shrimp& grits are delish. Perch dinner too. Love this place. Friendly. Fun. Can be loud but that's the fun too. Great servers. Great menu. Came at 2 pm on a Sunday. They just finished brunch and were taking an hour break. So we had a cocktail b4 they started serving again at 3 pm. Great Bloody Mary. Next time I'll try the brunch.
google avatar

Yelp
Such a great little dive bar with amazing food and service. Joey is amazing and we are so glad we stopped in for brunch! Decadent food with great flavors and everything was priced right too - huge portions. My husband got sausage, bacon and pepperjack cheese in his omelette and was obsessed with every bite. The fried green tomatoes were a huge hit as well. The ranch was delicious and I loved dipping my fries in the leftover. They have a lot of gluten free options for a pub grub kind of place which is super refreshing to see! Definitely will be back for happy hour and dinner before the next game we go to.

Rich D.

Yelp
It's a neighborhood about 10 minutes from downtown, and it was a great find. My wife wanted perch and they had perch fish and chips, which was really good. It was nice that people who aren't from Cleveland got to experience an area restaurant that locals like.
google avatar

Omar M.

Yelp
Looking for a corner bar with great food and drinks? You found it, Rowley Inn. While visiting Cleveland we took a tour of the Christmas Story house and this quaint bar sits at the corner. We sat at the bar and bartenders were amazing. It's not a huge place but it's outdone by the food and ambiance. Delicious. I had the Loco Moski and it was amazing. The pierogi with the medium beef patty and eggs blend perfectly for only $19. Would recommend.
google avatar

Joe R.

Yelp
Wife and I stopped by for a bite while checking out the area. This came from a recommendation from DDD. We ordered the bacon wrap tots, and they were GREAT. I had the loaded rogi and it was pretty good. There was a spice that I could not place that was a little strong for me, but the pierogis were some of the best I have had since visiting Poland. The sausage was also delicious. I would recommend coming here and checking out the food. The staff was also very friendly.
google avatar

Amber F.

Yelp
The chicken schnitzel was excellent and a huge portion! The garlic mashed potatoes had so much garlic they were inedible and I let my husband try them and he also couldn't eat them. My 3 stars is for the wait staff, I didn't find them to be very friendly to me as a tourist but they were friendly to people that were obvious regulars. I asked if they served coke or Pepsi and the waiter said cola and looked at me like I asked the most dumb question ever. Coke and pepsi has different products so I feel that was a valid question. Maybe I just visited on a bad day but I probably wouldn't come back whenever I'm in the Cleveland area again. Update: Thank you to the owner for replying and explaining the cola situation! I would definitely give the place a second chance now that I know, maybe I would try a different side dish! Thank you so much for replying!
google avatar

Janice J.

Yelp
Fun place to stop by for whenever you're visiting the Christmas story house or just want some good food. I enjoyed the pierogi meal. With five nice size pierogies and some homemade sauerkraut, it was the perfect size meal for me. You can't beat homemade pierogies in Cleveland. They also have a good beer, selection of draft and can. My friend liked the spicy chicken sandwich. Good service good food.
google avatar

Eddie M.

Yelp
Found this gem while in town for my daughter's treatment at the Cleveland Clinic. Local joint with plenty of options! My wife and I were in the mood for a burger. My wife is a little bit of a burger snob.....lol but she said it was "good". I give the chili burger a 6.5 outta 10. Flavorful, cooked to perfection but didn't seem like grass fed beef like my wife likes. Overall very nice restaurant and if town check it out! Very good service and friendly staff.
google avatar

Missy M.

Yelp
Nice smaller Bar & Grill. It doesn't have all the fancy lighting, wall art, furniture to make you think you're dining in a shmoozie place. But what it does have is originality that's paying respect to its roots and many years as a Bar & Grill in a Blue Collar, Ship Yard Town .. CLE! We were kindly greeted and were seated at a table that I'm sure has had many Beers knocked over while stories and laughter were being told. The menu was interesting and food choices unique .. everything read so deliciously it was hard to pick just one. So I decided on the CLE Shrimp & Grits. I was in Heaven after that first bite! The smoothness and cheesiness of the Grits, the subtle crunch of the fresh thinly cut strips of Red/Green Peppers, the sweetness of onion, the slight earthiness of the mushrooms, and the spicy but flavorful small bite of Hungarian sausage slices, that were all married together in a wonderful sauce and topped with perfectly cooked tail on shrimps and crispy bacon. It was a Kaleidoscope of flavors in my mouth that brought me to my comfort place. Oh was that good! I could only eat half and brought the other half home for me to enjoy again tomorrow.
google avatar

Jim O.

Yelp
Incredible place tucked into a small neighborhood! Stopped in before a play in theater district. Went with sharing a plate of bacon wrapped tater tots - homemade, not frozen- tasted great. Then shared an everything but bagel breakfast. ,2 eggs- 3 delicious potato pierogis, bunch of spicy sausage- with bit of gravy . HUGE pour of champagne- into mimosa. Well worth going to!

Yelp
My friends and I took a short trip to Cleveland, and made a stop at the Rowley Inn for dinner. It's a cozy place with kind of a sports bar vibe, and great food inside! Our group of three came here around 7:30pm on a Saturday, and to our surprise, we were seated immediately without a reservation (I don't think they take reservations here). For food, I went with the kielbasa and pierogi plate. It was incredible! So much food for a decent price, and it was delicious. I loved the pierogis and the spice of the kielbasa. The sour kraut wasn't the best I've ever had, but I didn't mind it much. The staff was very friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable about their menu. My friend with a dairy allergy was able to eat the vegan pierogis here, which she was very excited about! I'd definitely recommend this restaurant. P.S. the house from the "A Christmas Story" movie is right across the street, which is a fun photo-op when you're in the area
google avatar

Melissa B.

Yelp
Great dive bar type restaurant with delicious food and plentiful drink options. Rowley Inn is located at a great spot, right near the Christmas Story House tourist spot. We came on a Saturday night and were able to grab a table right away. It is only street parking around this area but we had no trouble finding a spot up the street. I could see parking being an issue if you went at a super busy time or during nicer weather. Their menu is huge and they have a lot of great polish options. They even have vegan pierogis! I got the spicy kielbasa and pierogi plate and it was literally so good. It really hit the spot. I loved the subtle kick of the kielbasa and the sour cream was perfect with it. The pierogis were delicious also. They had several TVs with March madness games going which was nice! Food came out quick and prices were great. I would definitely come back here and recommend it to others.
google avatar

Yianni S.

Yelp
Having frequented Rowley Inn for dinner service and drinks on a number of occasions in the past, I was brought back this weekend after hearing about how good their brunch menu was. I am glad I did--as although I have always found the dinner menu to be fine enough, the dive's brunch is really where the small Tremont location shines. The restaurant itself is slightly cramped and doesn't have much personality, but the quality of the meal more than made up for it. I tried the location's famous bacon-wrapped tots, and "A Rare and Different Muffin." The muffin specifically was freshly baked from Terrapin Bakery, which elevated this classic sausage-egg-and-cheese to one of the best breakfast sandwiches in Cleveland.

Yelp
I have been wanting to try this place forever, and I'm glad I got the chance to finally do so recently. We were able to find bar seating and were greeted right away once we sat down. They have a good selection of beers to choose from, and a full bar as well. For starters, we ordered the fried pickles and Reuben rolls- both were amazing. We ended up boxing up half of the appetizers because the portions were pretty big, and we wanted to save room for entrees. For the main event, we ordered the stuffed poblano pepper and the fried green tomato blt-they were both extremely good. The pepper was stuffed with smoked beef burnt ends, a mixture of cheeses, and green chilies and it was served over cheesy grits, finished off with a rojo sauce and fresh cilantro. It was flavorful, hearty, and savory. The blt had fried green tomatoes, perfectly crisp bacon, arugula, pineapple salsa, and pepper jack cheese on a grilled sourdough bread. It was a classic blt but elevated, the flavors worked perfectly together. Of course, the portions for the entrees were very large so we boxed up most of those too. We ordered a slice of key lime cheesecake to go, which was devoured around 1am as a delicious late-night snack. The food was so good that I actually woke up craving it, so I had a fried pickle and a Reuben roll for breakfast. The leftover blt was lunch/dinner, and even then, it was still amazing. I was very impressed with my first experience here, can't wait to try their brunch next.

Yelp
I have been here a few times - meals are always pretty solid. My fav the Avocado Toast. Seems pricey for one piece of toast. But I was happily stuffed. The only downside is - the acoustics. It is just so loud. We had slightly yelling conversations. Parking can be a challenge. But none of this will deter me from returning.
google avatar

Victor V.

Yelp
Service is excellent, great tasting food served nice and hot. I had the Rowleyquiles and added Avocado, this served plenty of food to handle and it does not disappoint. I would come again when I'm back in Cleveland no doubt, music playing while you eat and if you want to watch a game they have TV's. Just a great! Experience with a good meal and a local Cleveland feel to it.

Yelp
Brunch, lunch and dinner...oh my! Great staff and service on top of an amazing menu for any time of year. Love the brunch and great place to stop anytime you are in the tremont area!

James S.

Yelp
We have a good time and enjoy great food at Rowley Inn. We originally seen the restaurant on the show Dinners Drive inns and Dives. Have made 6 trips back with family and friends. We live in Cleveland this is one of the best kept secrets. If you are visiting Cleveland this is a must go to stop for foodies.
google avatar

Yelp
The shrimp and grits are wonderful I loved my meal and can't wait to go back, headed back up there this month
google avatar

Tony L.

Yelp
The bacon wrapped tater tots are something to behold, as is the sauce that comes with it. Absolutely amazing, see why Guy Fieri recommends it. I had the chicken schnitzel, and it was nice and thin and crispy. It was a huge portion that came with mashed potatoes and roasted broccoli. I went for the broccoli first and it tasted amazing, it was nice and tender. Love the local pub atmosphere.
google avatar

Yelp
This certified hood classic has gotten a lot of exposure to suburbanites due to its proximity to the Christmas Story house. You can look out the front window of the bar and look at it. This place serves iconic Cleveland favorites like brats and paprikash. Of which, the paprikash is as good as Mom's. (Sorry Mom) They also have the typical bar food fare which never disappoints. The service is pretty good. It's a hang out for the working class and the hipsters. They do a good job getting people in and out during Christmas House season.

Yelp
It was an ok place to meet up with a friend. Menu is somewhat limited. Decent choices. I had the Reuben and the meat was good quality and sliced thin enough. The bread was ok but could be grilled better. The pierogis is a big claim to fame with DDD. I found them to be different and ok. I've made them from scratch in my restaurant and I prefer the traditional style. The service was ok. Prices weren't bad. Table was dirty not overly friendly. Overall, overrated but acceptable.

Yelp
Got this gem from Guy Fieri from Triple D, and what a gem it was!! Right across the street from the house in the movie "A Christmas Story," this 106-year old bar did not disappoint. It was clean, but the character of the bar was left intact, and they never modernized it. This is the Tremont section of Cleveland, and I was told that much of the neighborhood is Polish. I had the best Pierogi plate! It was great! The local beer was great, too! We were visitors from out of state, but this is a MUST, if you are visiting or live in Cleveland!
