Yelp
I visited BBQ House in Ocean Beach back on Memorial Day and my visit was so-so. I'd give the Customer Service a 4 out of 5, the Ambiance a 3 out of 5, and the food a 3 out of 5, as well. The reason I gave the Ambiance a 3 out of 5 is due to them not really having any space for less than a party of at least four and a good majority of the tables were high top. Not really comfortable trying to balance yourself at a high top table while trying to eat messy BBQ....I'd rather not. Just a preference for me...
I ordered the Three Meats, Two Sides Q Combo Plate with Brisket, Ribs, and Links as my meats and Cole Slaw and Macaroni Salad as my sides. I also ordered a piece of Cornbread to try, as well. My order was taken in a decent amount of time and my server correctly entered all the items that I wanted to my order. However, when I received my order, there was hardly any Brisket on my platter and the three ribs were so small with hardly any meat on them. It looked very different than multiple pictures I had previously viewed on Yelp and Google before deciding to dine there. I showed the pictures to my server and she kindly took my order back and it came out much better the second time around.
Now, to the actual quality and taste of the food. The Ribs were cooked pretty well, only a slight pull from the teeth and the meat came right off the bone. The flavor of the Ribs was decent but nothing to write home to mama about...7.5 out of 10. The Brisket had a very thick greasiness to it, like it had been sitting too long...6 out of 10. The Links were both pretty flavorful with a good snap to them...8 out of 10. I asked for their Mild BBQ sauce and again it was just okay...7 out of 10. The Sides were both a no-go in my opinion. Both sides had hardly any flavor to it...very bland...4 out if 10. The Cornbread I'd give a 7 out of 10....just okay.
I don't know if I will try this spot again. I guess only time will tell. Overall, 3 out of 5 stars, until next time...maybe.
