Pizza Pop-Up Launches Residency at Solana Beach Wine Bar | Eater San Diego

"I've seen that Mesa Agricola is currently cooking in North Park and is scheduled to return to Solana Beach on August 2, where it will serve a farm-to-table menu Wednesday through Sunday; it had been occupying the Monday–Tuesday slot that Cucina Carnevale is taking over." - Candice Woo

Hot San Diego Restaurant Openings You May Have Missed, August 2025 | Eater San Diego

After a successful residency at Vino Carta in Solana Beach, Juan Gonzalez and Megan Strom have settled into a cozy counter-service restaurant on the main strip in North County, where Mesa Agricola serves wallet-friendly guisados on house-made corn tortillas or in burritos Norteños on flour tortillas. Using produce from Strom’s farm in Valley Center, Gonzalez prepares between seven and 11 types of guisados each morning, with choices like rajas, calabacitas (a mix of various squashes), shrimp ranchero, cochinita or roasted pork, turkey mole, steak ranchera, and chorizo con nopales, many based on dishes he grew up with in Rosarito, Mexico. Don’t skip the rotating aqua frescas, such as bougainvillea lima and cucumber lima. - Helen I. Hwang

This place has amazing food! We are talking fresh, authentic, traditional cuisine. One thing I must note, is the menu does change daily, and some options may be unavailable . With that said, you may think of this as a bonus, or a setback. But considering the amazing options, it was good with me. The food was delicious, I found the prices fair considering the quality being served. I have to point out the unique drink options. They are awesome! The café de olla was the best I've ever had. It wasn't drowned in sugar, it was cold brewed, and outstanding, as every flavor hit the palate. The only draw back from this amazing restaurant is the seating. Its very limited . Also parking is limited, but there is additional spots behind the building . Still a 5 star experience! Even the hot sauce was on point! I tried the Chipotle burrito, lamb barbacoa, and a mushroom & cactus burrito. All were smackin. My wife has the chicken Chipotle taco, and a mushroom & cactus burrito.

Google
Super authentic and amazing. Maybe it’s a placebo thing about being a “farm to table” restaurant but I actually felt really good after the meal where when I eat at most Mexican restaurants I’d feel super bloated or need a nap. I love how their menu changes everyday but from what the workers told me there are a few that stick around pretty often. I would HIGHLY recommend the turkey mole taco/ burrito or the Jalisco steak taco/burrito. Both kinds of tortillas are made fresh and were so soft. Melted in my mouth. Will definitely come back to try more! Get one of their juices too! So good.

Google
If you're just looking for standard taqueria fare, this place is not for you. They offer an interesting variety of super-tasty tacos and burritos filled with "guisados", which are slow-cooked dishes featuring meat and/or vegetables in a sauce. The blue corn and flour tortillas are house-made and have great flavor and a fresh texture. There are several guisados on the menu including a few vegetarian versions, plus specials. I tried the Turkey Mole, Chorizo & Nopales, and Steak Ranchera tacos (only served in groups of three) which were all fantastic! Other luscious looking options were Yellowtail Veracruzano, Shrimp Poblano, Smoked Marlin, Chicarrone Ranchero, Beef Lengua Amarillo, and Short Rib Birria, plus rice and beans. I didn't catch the three veggies options. The burritos are Norteno-style (Northern Mexico), which is a streamlined burrito focused on excellent tortilla quality and just a few simple, flavor-rich fillings. There are a couple of tiny cups of unique salsas available, but they're not really needed. The only thing missing for me was fresh chips and salsa. It's mainly a take-out place, with three small tables inside and two outside, and I think they do catering. Hopefully they'll open a bigger space soon!

Google
If I could give them 10 stars, I would. Mesa Agrícola is one of those rare places where everything aligns: ingredient integrity, execution, atmosphere, value, and heart. From the first bite of that perfectly made tortilla to the last sip of a fresh agua fresca (or whatever you pair it with), you feel like you’re part of something genuine. I had the taco (yes, plural—you’ll want more than one) with a slow-cooked guisado filling that made the tortilla sing. The flavors were deep but not heavy, vibrant but familiar. You’ll catch yourself closing your eyes and nodding slowly because you just know: this is how tacos should be. And beyond the food? The place feels like it’s powered by passion — from the chef’s background in Baja California to the local farming ethos. It’s not made for hype, it’s made for taste. The service was warm, unhurried, and sincere; the ambiance relaxed but elevated. If you’re in Escondido (or willing to make the drive from San Diego) and you want a taco experience that will linger in your memory, this is it. Go hungry. Leave thrilled. I can’t wait to go back, and you should too.

Google
Their tacos are absolutely delicious! I really enjoy their farm to table concept, with great guisado options and their aguas frescas that rotate daily. One of my favorites is the shrimp poblano. The place is small, and may take a little time to come out when they are busy, but worth the wait. It’s one of my favorite spots for lunch, and glad it’s so close to me. I’ve been telling everyone about it!

Google
Amazing guisados with thoughtful ingredients! What an awesome value you get here for this lovingly cooked, wholesome and delicious food. The owners are super sweet and attentive. There are a few tables inside to enjoy your food, but it's also perfect to go. I tried the turkey mole, steak, shrimp, and a few others too. Everything was wonderful and complex, a real treat for the palate.

Google
From food, to atmosphere, to service, hands down an excellent experience. Traditional Mexican food, served fresh each day with so many options to try! Each dish has a unique flavor and taste, and I haven’t tried one that I don’t enjoy. Also, all of the employees are kind and respectful, and the restaurant is clean and beautiful; it’s a joy to walk into this establishment. If you’re tired of everyday dishes, and want the satisfaction of Mexican food, try Mesa Agricola. You will be so glad that you did!

Google
One of the most exciting spots to open in Escondido in recent history. They grow their food on their farm in Valley Center and make the most incredible tacos with love. Homemade tortillas of course. They also cater. If you live in SD and don’t go to Mesa Agricola, you seriously are missing out. We will be eating here weekly. There are a few small tables inside but seems best for take out!

Yelp
Stopped in again and managed to snag a table this time for indoor seating. Super happy with the vegan/vegetarian options, glad to see there's more variety. I had the tunas agua fresca which was super fresh (made minutes before coming to the table) and delicious. Parking is limited, so try the block behind in the residential area, and walk just up the block. Now that I've tried several veggie options I think next time I'll go for a burrito.
google avatar

Wade S.

Yelp
The taste was excellent and the green salsa gave just the right spice level. The 3 vegan tacos I ordered were all delicious but I wasn't expecting that the tacos would be so small (3 bites each) and that most of the filling would be rice. Edit: The rice filling is the style they serve. I've been back several times since and I'm bumping up to 5 stars.

Yelp
Super cozy, cute, warm, and authentic taco shop in esco! The staff are very helpful and kind. I liked that you can only get a taco or burrito, but you can choose from the many filling options. If you don't know already, they stand out because they are a farm to table shop! Taco flavors: I fear this did not taste incredibly different from many tacos I've had. However, I think it did taste very clean and healthy. It did not weigh down on me like most greasy tacos I've had. Chilate: I've never seen this drink on menus so I gave it a try and it was sooooo up my alley. Super yumm!! highly recommend Service: As mentioned service was really great, and you can feel the staff's joy and pride in their store. Unfortunately for me, after 40 minutes of waiting I went to check on my order and we found out that they had lost my order ticket :( They were really apologetic and got the order out right away but of course that did affect my experience.

Yelp
Absolutely delicious and insanely fresh! You pick the guisado (filling / flavor) and style (taco or burrito) and they are all phenom!
google avatar

Han L.

Yelp
Unique, but not executed well. Good flavor ideas, but proteins were tough. Flavors not distinct enough. Pass.

Yelp
Went here for a quick lunch during the week. It was a bit hard to find, as the sign on the door is not very apparent from the street and there are a lot of different businesses in this little strip. There is a small lot in the back that is shared by the businesses and free to park, or street parking on the side or front of the business. The food was pretty straightforward, the owner was very nice and explained to us about all of the different options and how you could choose a taco or burrito. We went with the taco options and tried a few different ones. They don't really have side items, the rice or beans go inside the taco or burrito. Tacos come on corn tortillas and the burritos come in flour tortillas. The birria taco was pretty good, the meat was just the right consistency and not mushy or fatty. They piled the meat on pretty high. I loved the green shrimp tackle the best, I would order this again. I did not have a strong flavor that was good. The Barbacoa was my least favorite, it had some different spices in it that I just didn't care for inside of a taco. It has chickpeas in it which I do like. I don't know if it's because we came so early in the day, but I do have to mention that the food was lukewarm at best. I am a person that likes my food service very hot so this kind of put me off a little bit. I did mention it to them and they replace one of the tacos. You try to go back at a later time of the day to see if there is a difference in the temperature. They serve the food Chipotle Style, where the meat is Heating in the bins. It's possible they try to keep the fire turned on low so it doesn't dry out, but I do think it might be better if they turned up the fire just a bit. The place is very busy, and there is not much seating, maybe about three small tables inside and a few small tables outside. There is not much Standing Room inside once you order, so I can get a little crowded. The food did taste very fresh, and so did the drinks that they make in house. They have a watermelon one that I liked as it was not too sweet. They also have a pineapple one that's got a little bit of spice to it which I did not try. Overall I say it's worth it to check it out, and try a few different items, they have vegetarian and vegan options as well.

Yelp
I love farm to table restaurants, and Mesa Agricola is small but mighty! We ate here today for lunch and we will definitely be back. I really enjoyed their meat and fish offerings, and I'm I am so excited about their vegetarian and vegan dishes as well. The accompanying salsas and sauces hit the mark too. The staff were so friendly and knowledgeable. They really took the time with us and explained everything in detail. The watermelon agua frescas and the fermented pineapple drink were so refreshing and flavorful. I must admit I'm going to be a little obsessed with their spiced iced coffees for the rest of the warmer months. The complex flavors and attention to detail is incredible. I am so happy that Mesa Agricola chose Escondido to open their restaurant.

Yelp
Amazing. The turkey mole was out of this world. The tortillas was very fresh. The red salsa was delicious. I can't wait to come back and try more!

Yelp
I can definitely taste the "farm-to-table" aspect of the food as well as the hospitality. The explanations given for each dish were detailed and informative. I felt each taco was unique in its own way as well. At the end of the meal though, it got to a point where I was a bit tired of the stewy/gooey texture of the taco ingredients and still preferred something solid like the more traditional tacos. But overall, i appreciated how clean and well organized everything was.
google avatar

Leticia G.

Yelp
The food here is next level. You can taste the fresh ingredients and the authenticity in this cuisine. I've never had anything like this in any Mexican restaurant I like eating or mom's kitchen. Nostalgic and delicious. Unfortunately, I did not take pictures of anything, but I had the steak and nopales taco, the birria burrito and my husband had the mole Amarillo.

Yelp
Tasty lil taco shop in Escondido! Everything tastes like it was made with a lot of love and pride, and the people who served us were kind and enthusiastic about their offerings. The blue corn tortillas were so soft and delicious, but didn't fall apart under the generous helpings of fillings. Small shop with about 3 indoor tables and a few outside. Cozy, ideal for a quick bite or take away. Nice options for omnivores and veggies alike. Street parking was easy, prices were reasonable.
google avatar

Danielle S.

Yelp
Delicious tacos! The tortillas are very fresh and everything is flavorful. Staff are very friendly. One of the best taco spots I've tried in SD!
google avatar

Varuna R.

Yelp
I wish I could give them 7 stars. Variety, party in my mouth, farm to table, affordable.

Yelp
Tremendous flavor! What a gift to the community this little bit mighty gem is. Quaint and tucked into a small tight line of storefronts on Escondido Blvd. this powerhouse is doing something special that's not to be missed. Friendly but focused staff and quick delivery of ambitious offerings! Come with flexibility on where to sit and enjoy!

Yelp
Continuing our support small local biz mission - so happy to get to try this tiny but mighty taco shop! Guisado = stew, and oh the lovely spread of options from which to choose! Once you've selected your "toppings", then flip a coin for taco or burrito coz you can't go wrong with either! Our faves were the chicharron and shrimp tacos! Watermelon agua fresca made from watermelon harvested from owners' farm! As farm to table as it gets! Was packed when we went but outdoor seating worked out on a breezy Friday midday. Will be back for more!

Yelp
My wife and I have been trying to visit this restaurant for months, but their hours are short and they close before we can get there after work. Yesterday we finally visited and it was worth the wait. Tacos are delicious, we tried the Chicken Chipotle, Carne, Lamb, Mushroom and Bean & Cheese. The Chicken, Lamb and Bean & Cheese were delicious. The staff are super friendly and even though the line was out the door, the wait time wasn't bad. Highly recommended this taco shop, I plan to visit again today to try their other tacos.

Yelp
As a local we wanted something new so my wife is a yelper and suggested this place. 10/10 will return was super good! Dare I say maybe some of the best tacos I've had in a long time. Fresh corn tortillas will try their burritos next time very friendly and great customer service for a small spot. Was so good that we got them to go and ate in the car since the place was full and I came back in to let them know just how good they were. Absolutely try them chipotle chicken was a top contender for me and for my wife the birria or steak and papas We will return! We got 6 tacos Steak and papas Bean and cheese Birria Chipotle chicken Chorizo Nepal And one pork one I can't remember

Yelp
Yum! Very delicious food. And they have three vegan options! I ordered beans and potatoes with just the right amount of spice, squash, pepper, corn ( a bit sweet), mushrooms and corn. This is a to go type of kitchen. Very limited seating. At this time tacos are $4.00 each. They are open for breakfast and lunch. I'll need to make them a Saturday stop in the future I ordered three tacos to go on a busy Friday at lunch time and waited about 12 minutes for my food. It was very busy because they had just got written up in the local paper.

Yelp
Fresh! That's what comes to mind when you try their tacos. It's a small restaurant- about 3 small tables inside and a few tables outside as well. Their concept is farm to table and so their menu changes according to what is available that day. We came on a Sunday afternoon around 5pm. It was busy but service was fast. Owner was very friendly and took time to go over all the different options available. You can get it in a taco or burrito. We chose the tacos and tried the Chicken Tinga, Pork Salsa Verde and Chicken Mole, all with corn tortilla. Right away you can tell the corn tortillas were freshly made. All the tacos we picked were delicious and tasty. They had two hot sauces: a yellow habanero that is more spicy and a black sauce which is charred chilis. Both complementing the tacos well. We also had their Pomegranate Grapefruit Agua Fresca. It was refreshing! Definitely looking forward to coming back to try more of their menu offerings.

Yelp
This is the jam! Incredible food quality, authentic, and everything to love about tacos de guisados. Classic hole in the wall, right under your nose type surprise spot. Tried 6 different tacos, everyone hit! 10/10 worth trying And the 1 burrito we tried....
google avatar

Yelp
The salsas are like no other!!! Super delicious. Personally, I loved the mushroom tacos they were so fresh and earthy. Idk how else to describe them.
google avatar

Ruthy R.

Yelp
The gal serving us was phenomenal. She explained all of the food choices with detail and she was a pleasure! The chef came out and served our food. The food was exquisite and the salsa was beyond words! We travel to Mexico (San Miguel de Allende) often and the tacos were comparable if not better! 5 stars. Food was excellent.

Enrique C.

Yelp
Pros: Food is absolutely amazing. Filled with flavor. Very homemade flavors. The juices from the guisados are thick and sticky with flavor. Some of the best stew tacos I've had in a very long time. Customer service is great when ownership is there. What ruined my visits a few times is that the place lacks customer service when ownership isn't there. I walked in to an empty diner and saw 4-6 employees chillin and talking. I ordered my food and the cashier was cool but after paying he just went to the back and talked. I waited. Someone else showed up and he came back out and took the order and then headed to back again. I was confused and thought maybe they are cooking in the back now or maybe the Chef is occupied. Dude comes back to the front still doesn't make the food. My lunch break was almost over so I went next door and grabbed what ever was already made in Little Caesars. Walked back to my car and saw the dude finally throwing tortillas on the flattop. Service like this has happened 3 times during the week.

Yelp
They serve this drink called Chilate. I'm obsessed with this drink. It tastes like chocolate horchatas. You also have to try anything that has 'steak' in the name.
google avatar

Bao P.

Yelp
Small but powerful. This little shop has a lot of unique variety and amazingly flavorful food. With tortillas that are made fresh and tacos so overfilled they didn't survive the car ride home. The best part is that a good portion of their ingredients like the Watermelon in the Agua Fresca comes straight from the owners' farm.
google avatar

Yelp
Loved, loved everything! Delicious burritos and tacos. The owner is amazing, so talented. I live in Solana Beach and will drive to Escondido again and again!
google avatar

Yelp
Excellent tacos. Great farm to table place. Everything is so fresh! And a taco/burrito place has to have good salsa. They deliver.

Andrea M.

Yelp
Great new taco shop! Mesa Agricola did not disappoint. Homemade tortillas and slow cooked dishes featuring meat and vegetables in a sauce. The chipotle chicken and turkey mole tacos were great. Enjoy!
google avatar

Yelp
What a special place with the most wonderful food made with love. Service was warm and welcoming. Food is phenomenal. You must try this little gem. I think they will need a bigger space sooner than later.
google avatar

Yelp
I never give 5 stars, but this place deserves it!! I had no clue what to order for my husband and myself, so I let the chef choose six different tacos. They were amazing!! So full of flavor and all so different!! Will definitely be back!!

Yelp
Food was delicious! We tried 4 different types and couldn't have asked for better food! It's a smaller location with limited seating but the service was great and she was able to explain the different types and how to order! We will definitely be back!

Yelp
Wow what a find! Literally farm to table Al a carte tacos! Amazing owners! Definitely coming back.

Mark S.

Yelp
Delicious unique food. Guisados is their specialty and they do it very well. Their blue hand made tortillas were great. For a uniquely different experience I recommend this restaurant
google avatar

Emily P.

Yelp
Amazing! We loved all our tacos and especially the chipotle chicken and steak ranchero! The veggie ones were both amazing as well and toddler-approved. Everything was so fresh and flavorful and unique from each other. Definitely going to be our new go-to spot

Brian O.

Yelp
Great food! Just amazing flavors with some of the best tortillas. Really nice people who take pride in their food. The place is perfect for a quick meal with quality ingredients and flavors you don't see around here too often.
google avatar

Cameom M.

Yelp
Ditto to all the previous reviews. This a a MUST TRY. We had 5 different tacos and they were all delicious! We also had the cucumber lemon verbena agua fresca which was amazingly refreshing with just a hint of sweetness, perfect for a hot summer day. Great customer service made us feel very welcome. We will absolutely be back.
google avatar

Abdul I.

Yelp
Came here on a neighbor's recommendation. The food is incredible. My wife and I tried an assortment of tacos. They were all great. We especially loved the ranchero beef, chipotle chicken, and the marlin. Agua Frescas were also delicious.

Vanessa M.

Yelp
Beautiful, fresh, and flavorful tacos. You can taste the quality and love. All of the ingredients are delicious and very fresh the layers of flavor is truly amazing and perfectly balanced. The owners are very welcoming, friendly, and helpful at explaining all the different ingredients and flavors of options for the day. Tortillas are the best I have ever had and the aqua Frescas were perfect. We will definitely be back for more.

Rommel P.

Yelp
Great unique Mexican taco eatery I recently discovered in Escondido. Must try if you are around the area!

Ann Marie M.

Yelp
I saw this place on instagram and decided to try it. Well, what a mistake that was the food was not good and it was very greasy, but the worst part is that their servings are very small and extremely OVERPRICED!!! I DEFINITELY DO NOT RECOMMEND !!!!! I did receive a very long response from someone who said that they are the owner of this place, and I still haven't changed my mind about the low quality of their food and their high prices for their very small portions. I would be very surprised if they stayed in business much longer because there are so many other options with similar prices but better quality of food and reasonable portions for what you pay for. Just being honest.

Mark A D.

Yelp
Amazing food and service. Great burritos and tacos. Not your normal fare and well worth it.

Marian C.

Yelp
A tiny place that is an absolute jewel! Neat as a pin, chef served us personally after giving us a thorough explanation of each and every item offered and everything we tried was divine! Several of us had burritos, the rest had tacos and while all were delicious we preferred tacos because we could sample more variety. In house made blue corn tortillas were stunning as the base of each taco. Some came served with rice, others with beans, all were just outstanding. You can't go wrong with any selection. Both aguas were also tasty, the watermelon based was sweeter, I particularly liked the green one with cucumber, lemon which was so refreshing on a hot afternoon.

Carolyn K.

Yelp
Very wonderful, unique, very fresh, large selection of fillings for their home-made tortillas. Really a gourmet place in an unexpected location. Clearly made with love and integrity. And inexpensive also!
