Best Restaurants in Columbia, South Carolina | Eater Carolinas

"Vibrant flavors and colors practically leap off the plate at Duke’s. The Thai chicken salad is both refreshing and filling, while the curries are comforting and warm (seriously, these folks don’t play when it comes to spice). Don’t skimp on the street eats for the table. Crispy tofu nuggets and shrimp dumplings are a great place to start. If banh mi is more your style, head to their restaurant next door, Little Bee Bun Mee, for a sandwich." - Helen Harrison

Amazing spot. Hidden gem of ALL hidden GEMS. Tight quarters inside, but the staff is super nice, polite, helpful. The food is out of this world! Spring roll were cooked perfectly and flavorful. There's also a sauce bar with SO MANY options. I had the drunken noodles with beef, spicy and delightful. Excellent. Will definitely be back for this again. Also had some spicy chicken tacos - fantastic, flavor for days. Wife had the SPICY tofu tacos - loved them. One order n is 2 well filled tacos, just a heads up! 😄 My wife had the tofu stirfry with white rice, excellent. The portions are large, the flavor is bigger. This is a MUST if you're in the area. I'd give 10 stars if I could.

One of my personal Go-To favorites on any occasion, Duke's Never fails to provide the perfect delectable experience, in fact, I always aim to try something new on the menu. Even during busy rush hours, the staff manage to bring forth amazing effort!! Highly recommended for all thai/Vietnamese style cuisine!! 🙏🏻 🍲

Stopped here Saturday evening to grab a bite before the show at Township. Drove in from Simpsonville and could tell this place had to be good for the amount of people inside. We ordered the pork and shrimp dumplings, and my wife wanted to try the karaoke noodles with beef. I always have to try a restaurants pad thai to see if it's good and that can tell me if the other dishes will prosper or not. If your pad thai isnt good and you classify as a thai restaurant, I can't think your other dishes will be up to par. Imo this pad thai was great. Just a side of fish sauce would go great with it. I also wanted to try the hung over in laos bowl as with it having shrimp and chicken, it caught my eye. We were disappointed in the karaoke noodles as it was flavorless. My wife asked someone for some extra sauce and she said she'd be happy to bring some as usually with a stir fry dish the sauce can evaporate and the dish can sometimes be dry. She brought some sauce and it made the dish so much better once mixed in. She ate the leftovers yesterday for lunch and said it tasted better once the sauce soaked in. We'd love to come back and order next door as I've never had the opportunity to try a bahn mi or as you call them bun mi sandwich.

Whelp. I I visit here often, but never reviewed! This is my favorite overall restaurant. Servings are large! Food is on point! Every time. Today I tried the Larb. It is called Thai beef salad, yum nua, and I love it! Wife had just pho you and it rocks, as usual. Pictures is also dumplings soup haven’t tried yet, but it is delicious as typical.of the soup. Will be back again. Of course.

Wow! Super delicious! I can’t believe I waited so long to try this place. It’s always busy. The food was very flavorful. You can tell they use high-quality ingredients. Fantastic recipes. Staff is super friendly and helpful. You’re totally missing out if you have it been here yet :) it’s overall just a really great atmosphere as well.

Google
Food is the star of the show. If you're looking for an elegant ambiance and full table service, this isn't the place for you. If you want a large menu of delicious Thai and Vietnamese dishes, then step up to the counter and order. This restaurant is busy, but that is just part of the lively atmosphere. Prices are reasonable, and the portions are fairly large. The food was delicious and was brought to the table quickly. We spent about $50 for 2, but we ordered 2 entrees, dumpling soup, papaya salad, and a beer. Gluten-free and vegetarian options are available. Some items can be ordered spiced to your preference. Best Thai food in Columbia!

From the moment you sit down at Duke’s Pad Thai, you feel the care that goes into every detail. My favorite is the red curry at spice level five with clear noodles, chicken, and veggies, always with jalapeños on the side. The Bang Bang Shrimp Tacos are a must, and the flavors always feel like they were made with love. Thank you, Romina, for cooking with such heart. Your touch of mint instantly reminded me of my mom’s cooking and turned my meal into something that felt like home. The staff are always kind, the space is clean, and being here feels welcoming in a way that makes you want to stay. Duke’s Pad Thai has become a place I keep close to me, and it is somewhere I know I will always return to.

Google
The food wasn’t bad, kinda standard for Thai carry-out restaurants. I tried a few dishes and I think they are over salting the sauces and curry mixes. I enjoy more curry flavor, lemon grass, garlic, etc. they give you a respectable amount of vegetables and protein, but it was kinda dry. They also got the heat level right. Give it a try one the way home from work.

Yelp
Duke's is a Columbia classic for casual Thai -- laid-back, consistent, and always clutch when you're craving comfort food. We tried the messy fries this time, and honestly, game-changer. The pad thai's always a solid go-to. We gave the fried tofu a shot and it wasn't bad, just kind of there. Wouldn't rush to order it again, but that's the only miss in an otherwise great meal. Easy spot to drop by when you want something flavorful and familiar, and the menu keeps us coming back.

Yelp
Not bad for a first visit. I had the ton kha soup. Broth was flavorful, chicken cups have been more flavorful induced, maybe it's put in last minute and didn't have time to gather flavor. Had the vegetarian spring rolls. They were very good. I like the little sauce bar with pick your options. Had the chicken satay. Peanut sauce that was spread on top was good, but it didn't adhere to the chicken thoroughly. The dipping sauce it came with was good. Normally satay is stuck to it when I eat satay on a stick. This was more sauce over a cut chicken breast. Overall it was good for what it was, but I think I overhyped myself on expectations. Next time I will try some other dishes.

Yelp
Simple ambience, quick service, tasty food.....perfect for a quick weekend lunch. We tried veg red curry with tofu, pad thai with tofu and thai soy sauce noodles. They have bunch of options, you place the order at the counter and the food is brought to the table. We asked the food to be spicy, I asked level 4 out of 5 and it wasn't spicy. They also have condiments of chili oil, sriracha etc so that helped amp up the spice level. Definitely worth a try if you are in this area.

Yelp
Sadly, I really wanted to like this place. After reading all the positive reviews, all I can think is that perhaps we ordered the wrong menu items. The Pad Thai was just okay and I was also a bit disappointed about the portion size. The dish was supposed to be spicy and it was a little bit but the heat of the dish exceeded any flavor... so Blah! The spring rolls we tried were over fried and very dried out as well. My wife and I have tried three different Thai restaurants since moving here and we both agree that the other two blew this one away. Perhaps another visit but not until we have visited our other two area favorites..

Yelp
We found this place during our trip to South Carolina. This was a really good thai food place. I was a fan of the pad see ew and the tacos. The food and service was great! I love how they have a tea/drinks place next door that is connected so you can order some drinks while you wait for your food. I highly recommend if you're in Columbia, SC!

Yelp
Excellent service and amazing food! Duke's is one of my family's go-to restaurants. The portion sizes are great and absolutely worth the cost.

Yelp
This used to be my favorite. Around a year ago, it was consistent, amazing, perfect. Since I moved to another part of town, I have only been able to order it for delivery rather than eating in person. The past six months or so, every delivery I've had has been horrible. Either it's not what I ordered and there's so much spice that it's an edible, or there's not extra curry like I asked for, or the sauce is basically just replaced with oil. I'm not sure what's going on, but it's unfortunate because it used to be my favorite restaurant in Columbia. I don't order them anymore because t this point it's not worth it as there's pretty much a 100% chance the meal is inedible. I'm frustrated with receiving orders that are inedible and losing money. I don't want to deal with yet another loss of money, trashed meal, and waste of time. It's very disappointing.

Yelp
Not the best Thai food I have had more like slightly above average . Food is fresh and a decent flavor , staff is friendly , prices are fair

Yelp
I'm only here to visit my little cousin in the army . But OMG did everything here hit the spot. The tom yum soup ? The spicy one made my night ! Dumplings steamed so flavorful and the drunken noodles ... so filling and delicious

Yelp
Solid street food from Duke's. There are some classic dishes (Pad Thai, curry, spring rolls, dumplings) and also some fun twists like Thai tacos. Our group tried a little bit of everything -- there was so much food, we couldn't even finish it. My favorites were the tacos, curry, and chicken wontons. Don't know that I'd run back the next time in Columbia, but it's a solid spot that I'd visit occasionally if I lived there.

Yelp
I tried Duke's Pad Thai and sampled a few dishes: the pad thai, pad see ew, dumplings, and chicken egg rolls. Overall, it was a good experience. I have lots of Thai food and really enjoy it. The pad thai was definitely the standout; it was a great balance of sweet and sour. I like the lemon served on the side instead of the lime. The pad see ew was just ok for me. I liked the fresh vegetables that were mixed in, but the overall flavor didn't pop out. I wish I had the option to choose a spice level for the noodle dishes. I like a little heat. As for the dumplings, I wasn't a fan. They were served in a sauce, which I didn't enjoy. I prefer my dumpling plain with a dipping sauce on the side. The chicken egg rolls were ok, nothing special. Overall, I would come back for the pad thai and maybe give another try to other dishes.

Yelp
I love getting food from here. Smedium shop size that's you can tell others love to enjoy also. Their proportions are enough and very tasty.

Yelp
Five our our ROMEO group went here for the first time today. We ordered Vietnames Pho, Drunken Noodles, Ramen soup, Chicken Pad Thai, egg rolls and fried rice. Everyone liked their dish. The Ramen soup was not spicy at all even though it had a spice icon by it in the menu. My Pho was good but the broth was not quite like others that I've had. I also had them bring me some jalapeños to give it a bit of spice. The Drunken Noodles was very good. Chicken egg rolls very good. All in all it was a great meal with everyone rating it as 4.0 stars.

Yelp
Staff are friendly and do their jobs well. Place can get busy! It was packed during our first visit and the food came out hot. Lots of people chattering and the place feels welcoming. It's connected to their banh mi and drink spot where you can also sit and eat after ordering. The food lacked some things... I would not say it's bland but it's not fully there for me. Disclaimer: I'm from California and eat Thai food often. The Tom Kha soup at spicy level 5 wasn't that spicy and the mushrooms were raw. While edible, the soup overall seems to be just half-way there in terms of flavor. It did not earn a nod from me. The bulgogi beef with udon noodles interested me because I love udon noodles but it didn't seem to have enough flavor to me. The meat was ok. Not tough but not tender. The udon noodle did not have enough time to absorb flavors of the sauce or marinade - I think. The drunken noodles was almost there - the color was almost dark enough with seasoning but it seemed to miss the sweetness of typical pad see ew. There seemed to be soup? as my sister was eating away and the dish itself got saltier. The pho was labeled "OK" by my Vietnamese mother. We did not get sriracha or hoisin sauce with it as traditionally expected. Parking can be tricky as it's located around and in the back. They have a large menu so there is something for everyone but a big menu sometimes can be a downfall if dishes aren't perfected. I would not personally recommend this place if you're used to the complex, layered, sweet, tangy, and aromatic flavors of traditional Thai food.

Yelp
Duke's Pad Thai Street Food and Noodle Bar exceeded our expectations! We came in for an early dinner on a Tuesday, and they weren't busy at all. The ambiance was casual, with colorful blue walls, a huge "Eat More Noodles" sign, and plenty of seating. Duke's was also connected to Little Bee Bun Mee next door, which offered boba and its own extensive menu. The Duke's Pad Thai menu was extensive in itself though and featured everything from Thai classics, to tacos, to stir fry. I wanted to try a little bit of everything, so I ordered the Tom Kha Soup with Chicken, Shrimp Dumplings, and Chicken Egg Rolls. All three items were fantastic! The Tom Kha Soup was super flavorful and the Shrimp Dumplings were perfectly soft. The Chicken Egg Rolls also had a great crunchy texture on the outside, and paired so well with sweet chili sauce. I also got a canned Sparkling Lemonade, which was pretty good. My friend chose the Duke's Pad Thai and Chicken Satay. Both were delicious! Service was impressively fast and prices were reasonable. Would definitely return!

Yelp
The best Thai beef salad in town. I really appreciate the gluten free labeling on the menu!

Yelp
A Truly Unique Culinary Experience If you're looking for Thai food that defies expectations, this is the place! Picked up dinner on Saturday, and let's just say... it was unforgettable. The fried rice? A fascinating interpretation--soft, almost porridge-like, with not a single grain showing signs of being fried. As a bonus, it came with a mysterious black hair (certainly not from anyone in my family). A bold choice! The green mango salad had a distinct "aged" quality, bringing a depth of flavor that only time can achieve. The green curry? A real masterpiece--somehow both separated and watery at the same time, with vegetables so tender they practically melted away. And the best part? That vibrant green hue, courtesy of food dye. Who needs natural ingredients when you can just add color? I don't usually leave reviews, but this meal was truly something special. The owners must be very confident in their craft to send food like this out the door. An experience I won't soon forget!

Yelp
Amazing bang bang tacos!! The siracha cheese fries are great as well. Fast and affordable.

Yelp
Love this cute little restaurant. The food always tastes fresh, the restaurant is clean, and the employees are very nice. My favorite is the yellow curry and vegetarian spring rolls. They even give a military discount.
google avatar

Annie W.

Yelp
Tasty Thai street food at a great price. Service here is always quick and easy, no matter how busy. The restaurant has plenty of seating inside despite the small space. Great ambiance with soft music playing at all times. My absolute favorite menu items are the messy fries and green curry. Though the portion sizes have gotten smaller over the years, the taste and quality remain the same. Prices are pretty affordable so I won't complain. I like that the prices on the menu include tax already. Overall, this is a great spot for a quick and tasty meal.
google avatar

Lisa F.

Yelp
I've been three times since this check in. I've had the ramen with both ramen and udon noodles (the udon was my favorite); I've also had the tofu salad, spring rolls and a sweet & sour ramen dish. They were each fantastic. The service is always prompt and they're patient with you if you're undecided. I love the atmosphere here; it's quiet but not too quiet. You can have a private conversation without being secluded. I highly recommend
google avatar

Tsai-Anne J.

Yelp
I am so happy i discovered this spot. It's clean and it's quick. The food is delicious and the staff is kind. I'm only giving it 4 stars because I requested gluten pad Thai with pork and veggies and it bedded up being char su pork which is not gluten free. I knew this but I thought they figured out a new way to make it gf. Oh well I have returned since and got the right order and it was great.
google avatar

Sam C.

Yelp
What an amazing find. I good friend of mine recommended this place. I did a take out order of their special and it was delicious!! Of course I went at dinner time so there was a bit of a wait but well worth it!! Highly recommend!
google avatar

Jamie C.

Yelp
Ordered through Uber eats. Was a phenomenal experience. Food was prepared quickly. Nicely packed and even arrived hot! Asked for my soup to be spicy to be made spicy and it was! Also ordered some crispy tofu which was phenomenal. Probably the best way I have had it prepared that way. Definitely will be a retuning customer!

Gerry M.

Yelp
We have visited twice - and each time the food was delicious, reasonably priced & delivered to the table in a reasonable time. During our visits we availed ourselves of both the yellow & green curries, the bulgogi noodles - and my favourite, the spicy tuna poke bowl. Not one disappointed - and the portions were more than ample. And I must mention the friendly reception & service received as well - we will be returning again and again!

Christian C.

Yelp
Best Thai in the Columbia area. Food is ready fast and the price is surprisingly reasonable.
google avatar

Kate B.

Yelp
I ordered pickup and the food was still hot when I arrived. Super good quality & very tasty!! The service was really good as well and the staff were welcoming and kind! Loved the ambiance of the restaurant and will be returning with friends to sit down and eat.
google avatar

Holly P.

Yelp
This place is incredible. They need one of these in every city. Stopped here while visiting Columbia and am definitely driving 2 hours to come back! Amazing dumplings, Tom kha, curry, and noodles!!!

Maya I.

Yelp
Duke's is one of my go-to's for sure. They never miss imo, and I love that their pricing includes tax. I got my usual from the noodle bar: thai rice noodles with chicken + tofu in the spicy curry broth, and the vegetable spring rolls...10//10. I was feeling a little greedy, so I also ordered the pad thai street tacos for the first time and I'll definitely be ordering them again. The staff is always really kind and they don't hesitate to answer any questions I may have. I'll be back again soon.
google avatar

Rich O.

Yelp
Duke's has fresh, made to order dishes. It's a very welcoming place that simply serves good food. Good place to stop.
google avatar

Nicole M.

Yelp
Cold day?!! Best Thai in west cola. Anytime I'm on this side of Columbia I try to stop in to Dukes. Huge menu, great prices, good staff, comfortable seating and soul quenching, warm, international food. What more could you ask for?! The curries, the pad Thai, the noodles and the soups. Everything I've had has been amazing. It's busy so either be patient or call it in to go. Fast service too. It's a great place for a quick bite with your partner or a fun friends gathering. Parking is in the back. Definitely check them out!
google avatar

Gee W.

Yelp
Food is always delish and fresh. First time trying the papaya salad. It was a level 2 spicy. I didn't order this time but the Kareoke noodles and thr Pho are my fav.

Al V.

Yelp
Delicious food. Great Flavoring. Helpful and friendly staff. Has plenty of Gluten Free and vegan options. Reasonably priced.
google avatar

Ty B.

Yelp
Ordered dumplings they were frozen on inside. Service was solid about it. But would never eat here where the food is just from a frozen bag.
google avatar

Jessica H.

Yelp
Great dumplings and pad Thai!! The only issue that I have had here is asking for extra shrimp, which was $10 more, and they literally had the same amount that I normally get on the regular Shrimp Pad Thai. Definitely frustrating and not worth it. Otherwise, the food is always good and so is the service. I love the cozy atmosphere, I just wish they had more tables because it gets very crowded at lunch!
google avatar

Jonathan M.

Yelp
The food was incredible. Easy to order and wait staff was quick with order. You could probably go every night for a month and not get the same thing twice.
google avatar

Brice P.

Yelp
Dukes pad Thai is one of my favorite eats in Columbia. I've picked up meals here on lunch break dozens of times over the years and never has there been any kind of mistake or screw up beyond a long wait time (which is still very rare.) menu is huge and can be overwhelming but clean and easy to look at at the same time. There's something for all levels of Thai food lovers and I have yet to be disappointed with any menu items. Everything is delicious and bursting with goodness. Service has always been phenomenal as well.
google avatar

Mike T.

Yelp
As always consistently good and reasonably priced food, this is a very clean establishment super efficient.
google avatar

Victoria B.

Yelp
Wonderful little place nestled in a strip mall. Great selection of mix and match options and specialty bowls. Got some good info and suggestions from staff. Lots of smiling faces and tons of foot traffic while we were there.
google avatar

Lauren H.

Yelp
I thought the food was really good. I got the chicken pad Thai and yellow curry with chicken and split them with my mom so we both got to try both flavors. The curry had a pretty thin consistency. I'm used to a thicker consistency, but it was still really good. For me personally, I almost wish there was less of some of the veggies and more of the curry sauce. I thought it had really good flavor too. The pad Thai also had good flavor. This restaurant is in a little strip of places (I wouldn't call it a strip mall since it's just one row of building) and it's fine inside but not really a cute aesthetic. If I lived in town, I'd absolutely eat here again.

Scott P.

Yelp
Not good food, also not Thai food. Recipes are not right with classic dishes like pad Thai and tom yum soup. Slow service that would be ok if the food was good. Stop wasting your time by going here expecting to get good food in a reasonable timeframe
google avatar

Kristin P.

Yelp
The menu offers a wide variety of traditional Thai dishes, fusion creations, and a noodle bar that offers you the discretion to pick and choose from your preferred broth base, noodles, protein, and veggies. Since it was my first visit I decided to keep it basic and ordered a bowl of miso soup with shrimp. Unfortunately, this one missed the mark. Not only did I find the broth base to be incredibly salty, but was disappointed to find an absence of tofu, and only two shrimp floating towards the bottom. On the upside it did make for a quick grab and go, and despite a rather packed house was quickly served and in and out all within a lunch work hour.
google avatar

Sarah B.

Yelp
The food was so good and very reasonably priced. The Tom kha soup, pho and pad Thai were all so flavorful. The girl at the register taking the order was very sweet and helpful, great customer service! I am so happy I found a place to hit my craving for Thai & Vietnamese food.

Mike M.

Yelp
The food was delicious and the price point is good for the amount of food you get. The reason for the 3 stars it's because they took over 30min to get me my food while the party of 4 that was with me got there food and where more then half way done before I got my food. I didn't finish my food there because I felt embarrassed as everyone els was done with their food. I really heat that my 1st experience was like this. I will be trying them again and hope for the best. As there is not a whole lot of place to eat around my area.

Neil K.

Yelp
Excellent food, fast and affordable! I highly recommend this place. One of my favorite holes in the wall
google avatar

Dwayne A.

Yelp
We were in the area and wanted to try something different. It's great that they have a wide set of options without the menu being too overwhelming. I did the noodle bar with shirataki noodles, chicken, meatballs., and spicy curry broth. The food is really delicious and you get a lot for your money. I forgot to tell them my heat level, but I'll assume it was a 3/5. Next time I'm definitely trying 5/5 heat.
google avatar

Michael F.

Yelp
Almost don't want to leave this review because I don't want this place to be anymore crowded. Incredible food, perfect mix of sour, salty and spicy.
google avatar

Desiree R.

Yelp
So this review is for both Dukes and Little Bee. You can't go wrong by coming to this establishment. Pad Thai is on point, bahn mi is tasty and you can literally order something everyone is craving all in one spot. Want sushi, poke, pad Thai, bahn mi, boba tea? Well, it's all here as both restaurants are connected to enjoy whatever your hungry belly desires. Friendly staff, yummy food and modern clean decor makes this spot worth a regular occurrence. Excited to have these two spots in the Columbia area.
google avatar

Mark D.

Yelp
While in the area, we decided to try some local Thai food. We found this place close by and decided to try it out. Upon parking, you will notice that they have Vietnamese food on one side, and Thai food on the other side of the same building. I was curious about the Vietnamese food, but never went into that section after ordering and eating at the Thai-side of the building. The place is as clean as a McDonalds, but they serve the food quickly and they have very affordable prices. I ordered the "Thai-tanic Ramen". We dined in, the food was flavorful, abundant(espeically for the cost), but the food was very mild. It wasnt until I was leaving did I realize that the condiments (spicy sauces, crushed thai pepper, etc.) were all at the side near the line. My friend had the pad thai. We both liked our dishes. If you are looking for some affordable thai foods from a not-so-fancy place, I would recommend visiting this place.
