Eat (and Shop) Your Way Through New York City’s Holiday Markets

"Try the sweet-edged, Mexican American chocolate from Oso Cacao or the cult-fave Djablo Sauce, a punchy Filipino hot sauce." - Kayleigh Ruller

Meet Four Craft Chocolate Makers Decolonizing the Industry | Eater

"Inspired by Trinidadian family farming memories—grandparents who tended sugarcane and cacao—this Bronx-based venture views chocolate as a family legacy and a means to realize agrarian roots. The founders emphasize food security and sustainable agriculture, and aim to correct historical injustices in the cacao trade through traceability and transparency, sourcing organic or fair-trade beans to ensure farmers receive livable wages and can reinvest in their communities." - Jinji Fraser

Free Samples Are Returning to Some Grocery Stores With New Rules | Eater

"Founded by three brothers raised in Trinidad and Tobago with family roots in cacao farming, this Bronx chocolate factory and one of the city’s few Black-owned chocolate businesses emphasizes ethically compensating farmers, environmental preservation and organic farming. The company relied heavily on in-store sampling at specialty markets to tell that origin story and justify a $6 price point; without live demos shoppers often don’t discover the brand. The pandemic removed those sampling opportunities during key selling seasons, prompting a pivot toward digital outreach such as Instagram tastings as a way to preserve storytelling and maintain customer engagement." - Nick Mancall-Bitel

"I'm reporting that Sol Cacao, a Bronx chocolate factory founded by brothers Dominic, Nicholas, and Daniel Maloney who grew up in Trinidad and Tobago, is opening a chocolate tasting room this month; their three chocolate bars are made solely from organic, fair-trade cacao beans from Ecuador, Peru, and Madagascar and raw cane sugar. Stay tuned for more information." - Kayla Kumari Upadhyaya

I made my purchase over 3 weeks ago, did not receive a receipt in my email; never received an update on my purchases status, whereabouts or issues. I was just left in the dark, I tried to reach out to them but I was pushed straight to voicemail every time. The fact it’s difficult to reach out to this company and it is almost as if no one is there, it appears to be scammy to me. Will never try this company again, thanks for stealing from me.

This chocolate is seriously delicious. Get some bars! I grab some any time I see them at stores. Also three brothers who own the business are fantastic people. Exceptional small business to support!
