The gorgeously charred, slightly tangy crusts nail the stretch factor—chewy on the inside and a crisp exterior. Don’t overlook the specials written on the chalkboard wall, like the Forbidden Fruit. It’s essentially a Hawaiian pizza with jalapeños and red onions that will please even the most stubborn pineapple-on-pizza haters. "The original PizzaHacker wasn’t a restaurant at all—but rather a weber grill, cut open and “hacked” to become the FrankenWeber® (an oven that could withstand temperatures over 1,000 degrees). PizzaHacker was an extremely popular pizza pop up, turning up all over the south side of the city with fresh ingredients and an amazing crust. Finally finding a permanent home in La Lengua, the pizza is no longer made with this terrifying oven, but it is (thankfully) just as delicious. Long picnic tables encourage family style eating in a fun casual setting. In the early evening this is a popular spot with families—one of the walls is made completely of chalkboard, encouraging children to draw while they await their dinner. In the evenings, it becomes a great place to drink wine and beer while enjoying pie after pie with friends." - Strohl

"Having space where kids can be out of their seats is one of my top priorities for a restaurant, and obviously in San Francisco, space is limited, so that gets tricky. But PizzaHacker has a great, contained courtyard, and the pizza is really good for both adults and kids. My kids are young, so right now we're mostly a cheese or cheese and pepperoni family." - patrick wong
"Jeff Krupman’s PizzaHacker is decidedly low-key: This Mission Street spot churns out stellar pies (and fresh-from-the-oven bagels, it’s worth noting) without making much of a fuss, despite notable cameos and a devoted customer following. These delicately charred sourdough crusts are loaded with house-stretched mozzarella and a variety of toppings: maybe Spam, pineapple, and glossy shreds of cilantro; maybe basil and bright marinara for a classic margherita.
