The 18 Best Restaurants in Bologna, Italy | Eater

"Despite being hidden off the main thoroughfares, this casual, homey osteria is always bustling. Husband-and-wife team Antonella De Sanctis (front of house) and Mirco Carati (in the kitchen) opened the humble eatery in 2005. The pair whip up an ever-changing traditional menu written on construction paper taped to the walls or on a chalkboard. A meal includes fresh pastas, crescentine (Bologna’s fried bread pillows), local cured meats, seasonal takes on local pastas such as tagliatelle with asparagus, Italian peasant dishes like grilled capocollo with cardoons, and cheese-centric sweets to finish. The owners choose simple wines they like to drink themselves." - Coral Sisk

This is my favorite restaurant in the world. Amazing and I mean amazing food. The owner Antonella is such a good host and really makes you feel at home. I can’t say enough about how good the food is here, I cannot wait to be back in Bologna, just so that I can come here!

It was suggested as a hidden gem in town and indeed it was. My partner spoke Italian and had some wonderful chat with the staff. The food was delicious and it didn't feel like all the other places that just offer heavy food. We had a fish soup with broccoli and the pasta with fish Ragu which was definitely a nice surprise. They change the menu every day so you might not get the same thing but if you are willing to try something new, this is the place to be. Definitely one of our favourite places in town in terms of flavour and new flavour profiles.

Lets start of with the atmosphere, it’s like entering a living room of your mother warm, cozy, comfortable and personalised. Our visit was embraced, which I generally loved about Bologna was that they didn’t mind my lack of Italian or being foreign. The service was good and personal, really caring about the idea of slow food. Finally the food, is neutering and delicious. Simple recipes, where the ingredients speak for itself. If’d have the chance to work in the kitchen for 2 months I’d take it. This restaurant I’ll definitely recommend, since it is so unique. I think we were very lucky getting a spot, I’d recommend reserving a spot in advance

Wonderful family owned and run restaurant. It’s like being invited into their home. Chiara the daughter is the chef and explains the daily menu in perfect English. Lovely personality and great classic bolognese food. This and Trattoria via Serra were our top two restaurants in Bologna by far.

By far the best meal we had after 2 weeks in Italy! Simple preparations, but flavors were on point. Portion sizes were perfect (not too big). We had a pork dish that almost made my hudband weep, it was so good. Risotto was cooked perfectly. Wine was excellent. If you are wanting a white tablecloth experience, this is more of a mom and pop place. But that is what we love when traveling, especially when the food is exceptional.

We had a magnificent, super extraordinary evening. Food was outstanding, so authentic, so local and tasty. This deserves a Michelin star.

We ate here tonight and all I can say is it was absolutely awesome! Its a small, authentic and family run restaurant that chooses dishes for each day depending on ingredient sourcing, so I imagine the menu changes regularly and a couple run the kitchen and front of house between them. There was a selection of 9 or so dishes plus a mix of meats, cheese and bread to start (and deserts!), and everything was excellent - we were directed to order more than one of the dishes (so 3 x 2, instead of 6 x 6) so it's easier for them to prepare, which again added to the genuine and homely feel of the place. The warm bread for the starter and the platter were immense and all of the mains (pasta and meat) were great. I'd advise booking in advance to make sure you can get in (we tried the night before but it was full so booked the next day, the 2nd night there were a few walk ins but book to be on the safe side). I can't recommend this place enough, grazi!! We hope to come back in the future:)

Classic bolognese cuisine in cozy environs The place is small - a handful of tables - and staffed by a husband (chef) and wife (hostess) duo. And it’s great - a welcoming environment, excellent dishes, good wines, basically, the kind of place you go to cos you feel the need to chill and feel at home. The menu changes with the seasons, and whatever comes from the market, yet, it’s entirely affordable - all in all, well worth going to !
