My wife and I, and our son and his girlfriend, had dinner at Shimogamo Chandler to celebrate our son's first real job. For the first time since we've been dining at Shimogamo, we ate at a table, instead of at the sushi counter.
Our server, Micah, was terrific. She clearly knew the restaurant, the menu, the food and the drinks. We started with an excellent sake, Ippongi Dai Ichi Gitai, that was presented by the bar manager, Matt.
We ordered a huge assortment of mostly nigiri sushi; Madai (Sea Bream), Mejina (Opaleye Bream), Kamasu (Japanese Barracuda), Kinmedai (Goldeneye Snapper), Aji (Jack Mackerel), Umi Masu (Ocean Trout), Hotate (Sea Scallop), Anago (Sea Eel), Ama Ebi (Sweet Shrimp), Baja Uni (Sea Urchin sashimi) and Santa Barbara Uni (Sea Urchin gunkan). Micah had the chefs course our fish selections perfectly.
After the sushi, we had the Hatcho Miso Duck, Yuzu Mushrooms and Fried Shishito Peppers. For dessert, my son and I tried the Harvest in Uji and Matcha Hai cocktails.
Everything that we had to eat and drink was delicious. If I had known that they had Kakigori (Japanese Shave Ice) for dessert, I would have saved room for it. That's one more reason to return for another meal, I guess.
