"Styled with handwoven chairs and a sleek granite countertop, it’s nearly impossible to not want to sit at the bar at Puerta. Bartenders shake, stir, and sift agave-based cocktails with both vigilance and ease, like the El Verde Margarita, with Astral, a cooling cucumber agua fresca, a kick of lime, a hint of agave, and a pretty black lava salt rim. Start strong with arepas, stuffed with local mushrooms and draped in a peanut salsa macha. Lamb birria and beef cheek barbacoa are standouts, but don’t shy away from anything with mole. A modern Central American influence is palpable not only through the menu, with lamb birria empanadas, lightly spiced mole negro chicken, and dippable churros, but through the geometric tiled arches, handwoven chairs, and whitewashed brick.
