The 10 Best Restaurants Near Denali National Park, Alaska | Eater

"One of the main reasons people come to 49th State Brewing Company is to take a picture with the infamous “Into the Wild” bus. It’s not the real bus used by doomed adventurer Christopher McCandless but rather the prop used in the movie. It’s also not the only reason to come here. 49th has a ridiculously extensive menu, without a dud to be found. Do yourself a favor and get the King Crabby Grilled Cheese. It comes with chowder for dipping and pub fries and is outrageously decadent. It pairs well with the Solstice IPA." - Bailey Berg

No complaints about my experience here! The elk burger is absolutely phenomenal. The salmon fish and chips were also great. The staff were extremely friendly and accommodating. Plenty of seating so our party of 8 was seated after a short wait. Happy with the visit and would consider going again if I am in Anchorage again!

This is a great spot to spend an evening! While the brewery doesn’t have its own parking, there’s plenty of street parking nearby that’s easy to pay for and gives you two hours. There might be a bit of a wait for a table, but you don’t have to just stand around — you can head down to the lower level via elevator, grab a beer, and relax outside while you wait. The atmosphere inside is awesome! Our server was fantastic — super knowledgeable about the menu and helped us choose a few brews we weren’t sure about. The food was delicious! We started with their homemade pretzel and cheese dip — so good! The chowder was excellent — hands down the best we’ve had on our trip so far (and we’ve tried a few!). We also had the tuna poke bowl, which was good — I just wish it had a bit more rice to balance out the flavors better. As for the beer, we took the classic flight option with 4 different tastes, our server recommended one called “Tiger blood sour” — and wow, it was the best I’ve ever had! It had coconut and tropical notes, something I’ve never seen offered at any other brewery in the U.S.

In my opinion, this is the best restaurant in Anchorage. The food is delicious, the service is excellent, and the attention to detail is outstanding. During my stay, I visited three times—each time I considered trying another place but kept coming back because of the quality and consistency. While many restaurants in Anchorage don’t have the best ratings, this one truly stands out. I highly recommend it—the food is amazing, and the blueberry pie is an absolute must-try.

Google
Disappointed in this restaurant. Had to wait about 25 minutes for a table, which I didn’t mind, but the only area left to wait with chairs was across from the restrooms. 25 minutes of sitting next to the RR was a turn off. Please take the seats away from this area, it’s not a pleasant place to wait for a table before dining. Once we were seated I Had the Adventure Beer Flight and all of the selections were really good! I ordered fish and chips. The fish was just OK, the fries were awesome, and the Cole slaw was inedible, the flavor was off. No one else at the table liked it either. My wife had Mac and cheese and it was incredibly bland, it was thick like paste and she couldn’t finish it. Service was lacking and we went long periods without contact from our server. When we finally got our bill we paid and left without complaint so we could get checked into our hotel. When looking at our receipt noticed a 3.9% service charge that I had no idea what it was for (we only had 4 people in our party) and I was charged for fry sauce. When I was offered fry sauce our server never said it would be an up-charge. Just not a great experience here and can’t recommend.

Google
This restaurant is amazing!! Would give 1000 ⭐ if I could. We had only one meal in Anchorage during our trip and after reading the reviews and local recommendations online we decided to go here and I'm so glad we did. The food is phenomenal, you gotta have the tuna nachos and the halibut and chips, they're amazing!! The yak burger and chicken wings were also phenomenal. Of course, the drinks were also fantastic, shout out to the 907 Pale Ale and the raspberry lemonade. And the service was great, our waiter Pawan was the best and the manager was constantly checking all tables to make sure everyone was having a great time. We hope to come back here sometime in the future.

Google
Visited on Sunday & the place was lively & bustling. Our server Ben was kind and friendly. The pizza ( hot spicy reindeer) was exceptional. Halibut & chips was ok. My son enjoyed his reindeer burger . Beer was good and the view from the upper deck was great. This place exuded great vibes. Road side parking was free on the weekend but not easy to get. A big paid parking lot is across the brewery .

Google
Fairly good place. Very popular and busy. We sat on the rooftop. The halibut fish and chips was average. The Chicken bowl was fantastic! My son had the Yak burger and liked it, but couldn’t finish it because it was so big. I’d recommend this place if you’re in Anchorage

Google
What a gem of a restaurant in downtown Anchorage, Alaska. The setting is great and there are excellent views of the city from the outside deck. The food was amazing, flavorful and fresh. I enjoyed the Alaskan Adventurer Seafood Soup (bowl) along with a pretzel. The service was excellent as waiters were very attentive and only came around with checks when requested so our group felt relaxed and not rushed.

Yelp
I am a big fan of 49th State Brewing for any occasion! I have been several times now - for date night, work happy hour, and for drinks and appetizers with friends. Every time the food and drinks are delicious! My personal drink favorites are their signature cocktails, the Alaskan Gold Rush and the North to the Floor margarita. For food, you can't go wrong with the World Famous Yak Burger or Mt. Magnificent Burger! Both are a fun variation of a classic comfort burger, bursting with delicious flavor. The Parmesan Crusted Halibut and Alaska Wild King Salmon were also impressive, with beautiful plating. Although a little on the pricier end for a brewery, I can't recommend this place enough! I'll make any excuse to dine here!

Yelp
After stopping at their Denali location, we came here for dinner once we got back for Anchorage. Pretty similar menu but much more crowded and difficult to get a table. We ended up getting one of their high tops around the fire pit that was open seating. Great for a party of 2. Really enjoyed their calamari. The chowder was delicious, too. Great selection of beer and cider on tap. Very lively and festive here. Service wasn't the greatest, but it was busy. Great place for some tasty seafood and local beers.

Yelp
This place is a consistently an okay place to eat. The service standard is okay. When I went this past week, my aunt had to ask four times for her drink to be brought to her, but that's not always the case. I think it very much depends on who is your server. The atmosphere is the best part of this place. When we sit upstairs, the lower lights makes the room so cozy. The music is a little loud, but not unbearable. I love the mac and cheese. My sister had the Alaska King Crab Ravioli and there was something off with the sauce. We didn't enjoy/finish that. The NY Strip was to die for and I don't usually like steak.

Yelp
TL;DR: I came here alone but it looks like a great place for group gatherings for sports and food. Buffalo burger is legit good. I was in Anchorage for business trip and found this unhidden gem on yelp. I say that because this is the second time coming here and it's always packed. So that's good right? Since I can alone they out me at the bar or on a shared table with other small parties because it seems like the tables are reserved for larger groups. The place is busy what seems like all the time. Las time I had fish n chips which if your in Alaska it should be pretty good fish and it was. But this time around I went with the waiters recommendation and went with the Buffalo Burger with tater tots. I've had buffalo burger before but this nine was much tastier and had and was so messy like a good big burger should. It was good and with jalapeños and cheese it was on point. Highly recommend this place and you have to try the buffalo burger or fish n chips. The guy next to me had nachos and they were piled high and look good too.

Yelp
Amazing! Restaurant gets packed with patrons on weekday evenings. Must be HH calling or be in the happening spot! Female server provided top notch recommendations. Very accommodating and forward thinking. She exceeded our expectations and went above and beyond in customer service. Ambiance is more upscale. You're welcome to dress comfortably considering or factoring weather. Bring your appetite for Parmesan and Asiago Crusted Halibut. Tasted fresh and outstanding! Lightly breaded crust on outside with soft, moist halibut on the inside. Garlic smashed potatoes were divine! Loved the 49th State's Premium Lemonade with strawberries and thyme. Felt and tasted like a mocktail. Mixologist took lemonade and elevated this beverage to a whole new level. I'm not able to comment on the flight of four beers from lightest to darkest. I let my Tito enjoy it all for the evening. My Tito finished all of his beers. Walking distance from free metered parking after 5 PM in downtown Anchorage. Restrooms located inside the restaurant. Highly recommend to all visitors and residents, plus order food with shape of AK state symbol. Worth visiting!

Yelp
Great service, with a great variety of food for our large group buffet lunch. Had a little of everything...salads, salmon, chicken, fish, and I have to say everyone went back for Mac and cheese seconds, of all things! Gorgeous decadent desserts-many took at least three. I didn't, because I wanted to taste test all the unique varieties of sodas brewed down the street- sales of which overtook the beer sales, actually! And each special can had their own caloric content;)! Birch, ripe raspberry, blueberry cream, cloudberry, and I didn't even get to try the sparkling waters. All included in the lunch! The brewery is responding to the demands of the times for non alcoholic options and they are killing it! We were set up downstairs in a private room which has its own bar and restrooms. Highly recommended party venue!!!!

Yelp
I would definitely recommend the 49th in town. NOT THE AIRPORT location. The downtown location is lively and yummy. They are very busy all the time so go early if possible. I loved to cucumber infusion drink and the crab stuffed poppers. Wedge salad is fab. Fun place. I would really like to go in the summer when the outdoor area is warmer.

Yelp
Our party of four arrived as soon as they opened and since it was a nice day we opted to sit on the patio. They have blankets available at every table for every seat, it is AK after all! The menu for food and beverages offers a lot of choices and everything was delicious.

Yelp
Prior to heading on vacation and when researching for places to go to and restaurants to eat, this place kept popping up. This place is busy! We passed by one day on our way to do something else and you could tell from just driving by that it was busy. Later on in the week, we stopped by and same thing! They told us it was going to be about a 45 minute wait for a table for 2, but it ended up being a 30 minute wait. We checked out their "gift shop" area and looking at their menu while we waited so time passed by really quickly. The place is huge, 2 stories and it also has an outdoor eating area with rooftop views. Casual but nice establishment. It ended up being an early dinner for us, which was great since we went on a Friday night and I could only imagine it was going to get more crowded. Staff was efficient and super nice. We ordered: Seward's Folly, Ginger Ale, Artichoke Alaskan King Crab Dip, King Crabby Grilled Cheese and a trio of Sausages that was part of their specials. The King Crabby Grilled Cheese Sandwich was perfection. The right amount of cheeses...yes cheeses. It included Appenzeller Swiss and Cream Cheeses that melted perfectly. Every crunchy bite of the sandwich had crab meat. They didn't skimp out. The dip was so good too. My friend couldn't stop raving about the Seward's Folly beer. With so many great food choices in Alaska, it would be unfair to only come here BUT since I know I will be coming back to Alaska, I know I will make 49th State Brewing a must stop. I would love to try out their other menu choices. such as their burgers, or bowls or pizza!

Yelp
I had a late lunch at 49th state brewing. I enjoyed a bowl of seafood chowder that has Alaska king salmon, Kachemak Bay halibut and tender clams. I had a lager loaf to go with it but it was dry and inedible even with butter. The service was excellent. A guy next to me had the Yak burger and it looked delicious.
google avatar

Prajakta G.

Yelp
The ambience of the place, specially on the rooftop was good. However the food was below par and the service was mixed. Mexican street corn was decent, but the crispy cauliflower was neither crispy nor tasty. It was dipped in way too much sauce on the outside and watery/soft on the inside. The Margherita pizza (not pictured) was way below par. The sauce and the cheese were not what I would expect. The service was mixed with the hostess being unable to communicate clearly or politely. The servers on the other hand were friendly but not always on top of getting water or cutlery.

Yelp
Met a long time friend here to dinner. We sat on the patio upstairs. The food was amazing! I had the Yak burger and it was cooked a perfect Med Rare! Yan our server was awesome, recommended ao many great options. The crabby grilled cheese my wife had was also fantastic

Yelp
So I have some family that live up in Anchorage, and the whole week we were visiting them they kept talking about 49th stat brewery. So here's the deal, I'm not much of a beer guy, and the ones I've tried, I prefer fruitier drinks. They tried to tell me how the food was better than the drinks, but having been to plenty of breweries, I didn't really believe them... I was Wrong. 49th State Brewery ended up becoming one of our favorite restaurants ever. You walk in and it feels very Alaska, there's horns on the walls, it gives log cabin vibes, but not in an obnoxious way, it's like a modern cabin if that makes sense. Everyone we interacted with was very kind and helpful. They have a very large selection of beers, ciders, and cocktails. You can get a flight of any beer they have that isn't bottled or canned only so that opens you up to about 80% of the beers they have. I got a flight with the Arnold Palmer, Nitro McCarthy, Tiger's Blood, and Tropic Tundra. All were fantastic. I was honestly shocked at how similar Arnold Palmer and Tiger's blood were to their counterparts. Then the food was just out of this world. I wanted crab, and was convinced to get the crab grilled cheese. This thing was FULL of crab. It came with a cup of chowder to dip it into as well. It was incredibly good. We went again later that week and I got a Yak burger, which was also phenomenal! It tasted like a beef, but who else can say they ate a Yak Burger in Alaska? Now if there was a way to petition these guys to branch out of the 49th state to the lower 48, that'd be amazing, but then again, it'd be one less reason to make a trip back!

Yelp
Beer flight. Hell ya. Crab grilled cheese hell ya. Chowder. Hell ya!!! Great place for food and service was solid. Has tv for sports

Yelp
We have ventured up to Alaska for the past to July 4 celebrations, and each time we have found our self at 49th State brewing. We understand why there's always a wait here, and after our second experience, we will continue to come join the line for dinner here! This place is an absolute institution! They've got great beer, the indoor and outdoor seating areas are fantastic. When the weather is nice, sitting out on the porch is awesome. When it's not, inside is bustling, but surprisingly intimate with the large booths that are available. We've sampled a good portion of the menu, including the fish and chips, a couple of burgers (including the Yak burger!) and even explored the healthier side of the menu with a grilled chicken dish and the tuna poke bowl! Literally, everything we've tried. Here is delicious. The burger was particularly memorable. Juicy, well seasoned, and with some delightful cheese and fixings! It was almost too big for one hand! On the way out, there's a gift shop where you can buy hats, shirts, and some of these special offering beers that they have. I brought back a couple of limited releases from last year, including a couple unreal stouts. They were good enough that I checked a bag on the way home! Go here, wait if you have to, eat and drink, sleep happy!

Yelp
I've been to 49th State Brewing a few times and it's absolutely a staple in the Anchorage area. Our server, Carlos, was attentive and kind to us in the bar area and even put down a napkin for our plates since we were grabbing food as well. The blueberry soda is fantastic if you want a non alcoholic option but they have plenty of specialty beers, wines, and cocktails as well. My friend got the seafood chowder which was delicious and I got the shrimp basket which was just fine. I love the stocked bar, the tables with fireplaces in the middle, and the beautiful views of downtown Anchorage.

Yelp
So I went to this spot during my Alaska trip and absolutely loved it! It has this cozy bar vibe with a fireplace inside and a fire pit outside, what else do you need! So the crowd was super chill. Outside they had some seating area around the bon fire kind of setting and the parking lot had this cool vintage truck and Alaskan street signs. So onto the food, I started with a yakadilla...yep, a quesadilla with yak meat! First time trying yak and honestly, not bad at all. It was dry, salty and kind of tasted like jerky but it was okay. I just wanted to try it once. Then came the onion ring stacks. These were huge and hands down my favorite. I never had such stacks before! So crispy and so good! Also, tried the smoked baby ribs with BBQ & slaw! They were fine, no complaints. Next I tried the halibut and chips and these were delicious. The fish was fresh and the batter was just the right amount of crispy and flavor. Last and also the least was The vegan flatbread with black chickpeas and lettuce... yeah that combo didn't hit. And now the beer!!! I'm not even a beer person, but I tried two of their in house drafts and OMG they tasted like cocktails in the best way! Check the pics I just couldn't stop drinking lol Oh also had the strawberry thyme cocktail and loved it.

Yelp
Wings were just meh. It said award winning on the menu so my expectations were high. Definitely not award winning the night I ordered them. They were just ok. Ranch was tasteless. Pickled carrots were dry and limp. The tasted fine but texture just wasn't there.

Yelp
I have family in town so I decided to give 49th another try. Since we're still pre-Memorial Day, the crowds weren't insane. The rest of what I had to say, sadly, still stands. The beer here continues to get better and...the food continues to get worse as the service get progressively more spotty. My Mom and I came in for Mother's Day and the beers were stellar. Their SmÖk is one of the best smoked beers you can get anywhere. Their West Coast Pilsner was as good as my own! The service? We were done with our beers and were kind of waiting for someone to look at us again...it's like we became invisible. Had to flag someone down to get the tab. We came here for dinner last night. The halibut tacos were not good. The halibut was fishy and throat-scrapingly, dry. It came with chips and pico but...the pico cup was so pathetic that there was maybe enough in it for 3-4 chips. My mom got a salad instead of fries, but fries came out. My brother didn't get sauce for his wings. These mistakes are understandable, but the server never followed up with us after the food was dropped off. So he didn't find out till 30 minutes later that my Mom didn't want fries and my bro needed some sauce to dampen up the bone-dry wings. The best way to experience 49th State is to drink their beer. Preferably somewhere else.

Yelp
Beer: 4 stars. Everything was very good. Views: 5 stars Service: Excellent 5 stars Food: 4 stars. Honestly, while my wife like her Poke bowl, she said it was "good". My Halibut Tacos (see the picture) were buried under a proper salad-- the description made me think just greens in the tacos and maybe a side salad--and I didn't get much flavor from the seasoning on the fish. The sauce was nice, but the who dish felt very dry and there really needs to be more chips. I think they just need to call this a Halibut Taco Salad and scrap the tortillas. Adding the accompanying Pico was kind of pointless because it couldn't make its way to the fish taco because of the greens. Oh and why were there only 2? Is there a tariff on Halibut in Alaska between where they're caught and the brewery?
google avatar

Tiffany J.

Yelp
The best food we could find in Anchorage. Nearby the Hilton hotels and has fantastic seafood. Very popular so prepare for a wait with a large party. Our favorite was the Parmesan halibut and the crab grilled cheese. Delicious and cozy atmosphere, definitely get the seafood dishes!
google avatar

James R.

Yelp
We had an hour wait for a table because we didn't make reservations. We could have sat in the bar but we wanted a nice table upstairs. They brew their own beer so you have a good selection of unique brews. We decided to vary from the normal seafood choices. We went with tak burger and Bison or buffalo meatloaf. Both were very good. We had o e small glitch in our meal, but the server and manager fixed the problem quickly. If you order an appetizer and meal, you may not have enough room for dessert. We didn't, we left full. Good food, good service, excellent experience. Try them and make your own decisions.

Yelp
I tried 49th state while walking around looking for lunch. It was good food and relaxed atmosphere, great spot!

Yelp
My husband and I have stopped by here twice and the first time we came was probably not the greatest experience that I should base this review on but it definitely has a great impact on our second time coming back. We somehow ended up at the back entrance which was absolutely packed and we ended up grabbing something from the food truck in the back. In total to wait in line and order/wait for food it was probably closer to ~20 minute wait (around 7:30ish on a Thursday night). My husband got a reindeer brat and a 907 ale, I ended up with a strawberry lemonade and 50th state pig wings (definitely not what I was expecting for the price point, but besides the point). Overall Thursday night kind of turned us off from trying here again. But I read that their fish and chips were the best in town so we had to come back just to try. Friday around 2 we had a short 15 minute wait and our service was quick and fast. We sat inside and it was amazing/beautiful views! Our server was great and attentive, out of the 6 places we've tried in Alaska for fish and chips this one was 3/6! Not bad but just a little dry on the fish and the batter was a little heavier than our top two places. Overall 3/5.

Yelp
Been here a few times mostly over the summer. Love sitting out on the patio while soaking in the sun. However, the service is always a bit slow (seems they're short staffed), so I definitely wouldn't go if I'm in a pinch for time. The pretzel is always a hit. We tried the fried calamari which had good flavor, but unfortunately got some pieces that were raw... the staff were really good about apologizing and making things right when we notified them though. The sandwiches are pretty good and fries were nice and crisp. Didn't realize they would charge me extra for their "special sauce" when they asked me whether I wanted it...
google avatar

John T.

Yelp
I got the fish and chips and a couple of gin and soda waters. The food was phenomenal! The halibut was so perfectly cooked and still very moist inside. Portion size was a bit small but I ate everything on the plate. Would definitely come here again.
google avatar

Ellen B.

Yelp
I regret going there. This place was recommended by many, many people as an amazing place with amazing food, but I was extremely disappointed. First of all, there's a huge line. No matter the time of the day you're going, you will wait. Second of all, the food was awful: it costed over $100 for two people but the food was worse than mediocre. The cauliflower appetizer was disgusting due to the sause, absolutely awful, couldn't eat more than two pieces. The burger was bad, the drinks were very weak. I usually never regret going to restaurant but I regret going to this one. Don't waste your time, there are plenty better places.
google avatar

Yelp
We stopped in for lunch during a day in downtown Anchorage. We grabbed a nice table by the window that had a beautiful view of the water. My husband tried the Adventure Flight of beers and the Yak Burger, and he enjoyed both of them. I had an Artic Roots cider and the Crabby Grilled Cheese with a side of seafood chowder. Both were delicious! The sandwich had a lot of crab in it, too. Our server was nice and fast. We really enjoyed our meal.
google avatar

Jenn M.

Yelp
First off, we did not go for beer so I cannot comment on that. We went because my companion wanted a burger. Everything was fine; although nothing stood out. The person next to me had the Poké bowl and that looked really good and colorful, and I wished I had ordered it. There's a very good view. There were lots of employees and even still, it took a long time for our food to come. It felt like it might've been sitting there for a while as nothing was very hot when it arrived.

Yelp
This restaurant is awesome!! From the vibes, the view, the drinks and the food it is my go to place whenever I get to come to Anchorage. The King Crabby Grilled cheese and their Blueberry Cream Soda are my go to. My last trip there I bought some Blueberry cream soda to bring back with me back to Houston.

Yelp
Stopped in for 2 meals on our short visit in Anchorage. We came in late both nights and was surprisingly pretty busy but able to get a table for our group each night. Service was all friendly and fairly fast. Beers were good and food was fresh and delish. The burgers were juicy and loved the ones we tried. The chili was hearty and tasted so good. Fish and chips were fine but didn't seem anything too special. Great atmosphere and would come back again to try other food items and beer!

Yelp
Loved this place!! Super spacious, open seating, and the staff is just so friendly. Food is great and bought some beers to go as well - a nice souvenir for friends and family back at home! FOOD: Fish and Chips (7/10) - Super solid fish and chips. Really liked the orange / brown sauce, still not really sure what it is but was great. Crab Dip (8/10) - Super sweet and delicious crab with a ton of pita bread. Really nice appetizer!

Yelp
Best staff ever. You walk in and feel like old friends, instantly. Great Notes * Brussels sprouts app - perfect way to get your veggies * Yak burger. Very lean meat but it tastes like an old-time backyard barbecue burger * Beers of all kinds, made in-house * Root beer! Not too sweet, it's perfect Vibes * First off, there's a tabletop fire pit. What! * Does there need to be a second off?

Yelp
Amazing beer and good food Make this a worthwhile stop. The place was crowded each time we stopped. The roof top bar provided a nice view.

Yelp
This is, per many locals, the place to go. Since Alaska is the 49th State, the name makes a whole lot of sense. Be forewarned- it's busy. We went at 4:45 figuring we would be ahead of the dinner crowd. (Buzzer buzzing) Wrong! There was a 45 minute wait for inside and outside. Bar seating provides fast service with the full menu. Highly recommend seating there if you're just in for the food. BUT - there are great views outside!
google avatar

Yelp
I'd give this place 10 stars if I could! My experience at 49th State Brewing was incredible, all thanks to their outstanding customer service. A week before my trip to Anchorage, they called to inform me that my reservation for the Friday before the Iditarod ceremony had been mistakenly accepted due to a private event. They apologized, offered a free appetizer, and suggested visiting their airport location instead. Since this trip marked my 49th state visit, I was determined to dine there. When I shared my story, they invited me to stop by on Saturday--one of their busiest days--and speak with a manager. Despite the packed house, they honored their word and found me a seat after a short wait. The service was exceptional--the manager checked in, and my server was incredibly attentive and kind. They could have simply canceled my reservation like everyone else's and called it a day, but instead, they went above and beyond to make things right. Amazing food, great drinks, and even better people. If you're in downtown Anchorage, this is a must-visit! Huge shoutout to Chelsea and Scott, the managers, for exceeding customer expectations!

Yelp
If you are in Anchorage stop by 49th State Brewing. They are a brewery and have a large traction of beers. If you are not into craft beer they also have a full bar. Staff were friendly. The food is delicious with large portions. Try their house made fry sauce. It was excellent! They do get busy during peak hours so you may have a wait, but the food was worth it!

Yelp
This pls e is busy and loud but well loved by locals and visitors alike. Took us a while to get a table off season on a Tuesday so says a lot. I had the Yak burger and it was very good but messy. My friend had the daily special which was well portioned and well liked. Staff were good but not as good as other places in Anchorage. It's a big place serving a lot of people and very loud but if you want a yak burger it's a good place to go.

Yelp
The wait time was pretty long on a Friday night. However, we finally got seated after waiting for over an hour for a table of 4. The atmosphere is loud and busy. Our table ordered the nachos, yak burger, crab grilled cheese, fish tacos, and mushroom pizza. The crab grilled cheese definitely used imitation crab as I could clearly see and taste the artificial stringy texture of the "crab meat." But overall, the grilled cheese tasted pretty good despite using imitation crab meat. The yak burger was incredibly juicy and tender and paired well with the sauce in the burger. The pizza and tacos were sub par, and I would probably not order it again in the future. Our server was pretty cold to us, which we thought was strange. He barely checked up on our table and took a long time to refill our waters. We asked for the check and to-go boxes at the same time and had to wait an extra 25 minutes for him to bring the to-go box after paying for the check. He also stood over me as I was typing in the tip amount on the credit card machine which made me incredibly uncomfortable. Overall the food is not bad, but the service and wait time was very off putting.

Yelp
I visited on a Saturday around 5pm for an early dinner. The bar area was crowded. I took this as a good sign. Seating was opened for you to sit anywhere. I found a nice table near the window. Loved the rustic decor. It made me feel like I was in an Alaskan Lodge having a drink and dinner. I wanted to try some of the Alaskan caught fish I had seen advertised in the area. The halibut tacos were amazing. I chose the beer batter for the fish in the taco. The fish pieces were generous filling the taco. The added slaw made them messy but oh so good to eat. Service was good even with the large crowd. The server was attentive and I did not wait long for my order to be delivered to my table. Would highly recommend if you are in the area.

Yelp
Great food, ambiance, and good beers! Definitely worth checking out. I came here twice so it's definitely a good place. The only reason why it's not a 5 star is because it took a while for my food to come when I came on the first day. I could I would give it this place a 4.8 stars. Servers were cool and made you feel welcomed.

Yelp
Always a favorite whenever I am in Anchorage! I had the Alaska wild king salmon and my friend had the halibut. Both were delicious! It can get pretty busy, but their service is always great. Our server was Kim and she was kind and attentive the entire time despite it being very busy.

Yelp
49th State makes their own drinks.... It's what they are popular for. It took more than 10 minutes before someone acknowledged us or offered to get us drinks. Once we were served, the waitress was good and gave recommendations. She said the Fish and Chips were a healthy choice - not greasy (not true). The atmosphere here surprised us. The main floor is self seating and the two floors above have reservations. For a place that was busy; the sound didn't echo off the walls, the lighting was dim enough but well lit. The music was calming. This and the drinks we would come back for - and the opportunity to find the one thing on their menu they are amazing at.... We got the crab spinach dip as an appetizer with chips. This was good with maybe a little too much cheese - still good. My husband got the seafood chowder; he said the Rolls were better than the chowder. I had the Fish and Chips. Starting with what should have been what they say they are known for, the fish its self had no flavor other than the grease it was fried in. No salt, pepper or anything. The fish was also overcooked and very dry - with grease mixed in. The fries were not anything special but better than the Fish.

Yelp
The place was busy, so it's obviously a popular spot. We were able to find some seats at a round table with a little fireplace in the middle. There were a lot of options on the menu. I went with the King Crabby Melt. It domes with a small amount of their seafood chowder and fries. The sandwich was really good, the chowder was good, and the fries were really excellent. We also had very good and very friendly service!

Yelp
The views and beer are why people come here! I thought the beers and sodas were delicious. The food was solid, nothing insanely special but good. It was busy but still got seared quickly with a bigger group.

Yelp
Nick was an amazing server, super attentive and very friendly. We had the beer flight and the beers were excellent. The fish and chips were good, the elk smash was phenomenal. Highly recommend. The first floor is all open seating. The beer garden outside is nice.
