Baramee Thai Bistro - Review - Crossroads - Kansas City - The Infatuation

"The Thai food at this casual Crossroads spot delivers all the classics, and is a great move for a casual weeknight dinner. Come here for a meal that includes Tiger Cry beef with a homemade chili sauce, Thai chicken wings, and some panang curry for good measure. If you’re here on a date and want to keep things going, take a quick walk for a cocktail at the nearby speakeasy, Swordfish Tom’s—although if the lantern in the lobby is red, the bar is already full." - Ryan Bernsten

Google
Thai food can be different depending on how you like your food to taste. Baramee Bistro has a distinct flavor. You have to experience this, I feel that what ever you order it will be good! The dish I had was Pad Ka Prao, crispy spring rolls and Thai Tea. The Pad Ka Prao I had with chicken. The taste had a hint of spicy and full of flavor with wonderful presentation. When you walk in you are quickly lead to a table of your choice, as I walked in the glass wall was pulled back because due to having a beautiful day. This gives you a wonderful open feel. The restaurant has a wonderful peaceful atmosphere. If have tried this restaurant you should if you haven’t been in a while you should go.

Google
cute restaurant and food was good! we got the basil pork and red curry and both were delicious. It was super busy at 6:40 but we got a seat for table of 6 around 7:10pm. The parking is street parking and we found one pretty easily on a monday night. Service was super fast and things came out hot and fresh!

Google
We went in the heat of August. There’s no AC so it truly simulates being in Thailand. There were also flies flying around too. But there’s flavors were great. So tasty and well worth it!

Nice place, good pad Thai. My food arrived before the beer I ordered. A few minutes later, I was brought a warm IPA with a glass of ice, Apparently the keg had to be changed and the new barrel wasn't cold. When I told her I didn't want warm beer, she took it away and did not offer me something else.

Google
Baramee Thai Bistro: Delicious Food… If You Don’t Look Around Too Much The food? Chef’s kiss. Absolutely flavorful, authentic, and hits all the right Thai notes. I’d go back for the pad thai alone—if I could forget what the rest of the place looks like. Now, the ambiance… well, let’s just say it’s not winning any interior design awards. The decor is tired, the dining area’s a little dingy, and once you catch a peek into the kitchen, you might start second-guessing your life choices. It’s not filthy, but it’s definitely not clean-clean. More like, “eh, don’t look too hard” clean. And the staff? Super nice—but also sometimes just chilling at the dining tables like they’re off the clock. It kind of feels like you’ve wandered into someone’s family lunch. Baramee Thai has tasty food, no doubt. But between the iffy cleanliness and awkward vibe, I’ve been twice and that’s probably enough for me. Unless I’m really craving curry… and maybe willing to eat it with my eyes closed.

Google
The food here was amazing! I had one of the best pineapple fried rice and crab rangoon in Kansas City to date. The service was alright and this place was very busy when we came. The wait time was relatively low for the food which was good.

Google
Came with a group of 17 people while I was visiting KC for a conference. The staff were amazing! They let us take over the whole patio and were so welcoming. They were also very efficient at taking our orders and getting food out quickly. It was delicious- I heard no complaints about even a single dish or drink all evening. If you are looking for some great Thai in KC, be sure to check this place out!

Google
Several locals suggested this was the best Thai in KC and it didn’t disappoint. Medium Spice builds up over the bites but not overwhelming. Delicious Crispy Spring Rolls, Crab Fried Rice, and Pad Thai. Love me some Iced Thai Coffee & Baramee’s was one of the best. Coming back for soup and Green Curry.

Yelp
We had a large party of 9 and were seated quickly on a Friday night just after 6 pm. We walked from The Loews Hotel and it was a short walk. The food was plated beautifully and was served piping hot and delicious. The servers were kind and fast and even took great group photos for us and honored separate checks too. The portions were big so most everyone took food back to the hotel to finish later. They also had outdoor seating streetside with pretty flower boxes. The room temperature was quite warm (no fans) as we were seated close to the open kitchen counter on a very hot day. Guests in shorts were a lot more comfortable than those in suit jackets and slacks. I would come back again as it is rare to find restaurants with high quality meals, great fast service, and reasonable prices.

Yelp
Tried this Thai spot while I was in Kansas City, and I was impressed. The service was excellent and the ambiance was unbeatable. I asked for hot sauce and the waitress brought me a variety of spicy chiles, chili sauce, and chili powder. So spicy and it was great. For the appetizer, we split the Baramee Thai platter, which came with 2 crab rangoons, 2 soft spring rolls and 2 crispy spring rolls. It came with a peanut sauce and a sweet chili sauce, and everything was so great tbh. Then, we got the Pad Thai with shrimp was one of the best pad Thais I have ever had. I would 100% order this again. The Pad Ka Prao was fine; I didn't love that the "beef" was just ground beef I don't know why but I was expecting steak I think. If you order the Pad Ka Prao, order a different meat.

Yelp
The service was amazing and so attentive! The food however did not taste great. As someone who lived in Thailand, the tom yum was meh. Almost like there was too much fish sauce and maybe not enough lemon grass or makrut leaves??? Idk. It could have been I ordered the wrong dish but was super disappointed.

Yelp
Super cool little Thai place with great food smack in the middle of the Crossroads! The front of the restaurant opens up so it's like an open air restaurant which is perfect on a Fall day! Authentic Thai flavors, spot on spice levels, we like fairly spicy and the medium is perfect especially when it is accompanied with the spice tray (chili flakes, jalapeños, fish sauce, chili sauce). Pad Thai is a bit tangier than most... maybe a bit more tamarind, it is delicious. Basil fried rice was among the best I've had. Perfect umami flavor and spice. Thai is a favorite go-to, and we have tried LOTS of Thai restaurants, and this is a new favorite. There are a ton of places that are just "meh", but Baramee is full of flavor and atmosphere and great, friendly service. If Thai is a favorite of yours and you haven't yet tried Baramee Thai Bistro, I definitely would recommend!

Yelp
I haven't had the opportunity to eat here in person yet, but I'm constantly ordering takeout from them. It's my go-to for my favorite shrimp pad Thai (medium spice level) but I haven't left my comfort zone to try something new off their menu until today! I ordered the Pad Key Maw with chicken, along with a half order of Crab Rangoon. It was so delightful! I got medium spice level on this as well, and the spice level was very nice. I could even step it up a notch next time. You really get the basil flavor coming through and the peppers and broccoli and very well-cooked. I would personally like the rangoons with a bit more filling but that's personal preference. All in all very delicious! I hope I get the chance to eat in-house soon!
google avatar

Jeri L.

Yelp
Absolutely delicious! Waldo Thai used to be my favorite but it's too far and baremee is just the perfect replacement! We had a good time here and the service was excellent. I definitely want to come back and try more items on the menu

Yelp
This place was out of this world good. We stopped in on a Saturday evening and were seated quickly, within ten minutes. The dining room is a bit cramped, but we were seated at a rather larger table so we didn't mind. The food was absolutely incredible. I cannot rave about it enough. We ordered an order of the crab fried rice and it was so delicious. Service was friendly and quick. If ever back in the area, I'll for sure visit here again.

Yelp
We decided to try a new Thai restaurant and get out of Johnson County. Since none of us had been to Baramee Thai Bistro, we headed there. The parking is difficult as there aren't many spaces in front of the restaurant and parking lots around them had posted signs that your car would be towed. Not a great start to the evening. The restaurant is small, and tables are close. Our waitress was very busy, but she did a good job of checking with us occasionally. There is a large table in front of the kitchen area and it was full of carryout orders most of the time we were there, so I guess they do a lot of business that way. Now for the food. We tried the spring rolls and crab rangoon as appetizers. Both were just okay. The 4 of us each ordered different entrees. My spouse got his usual Pad Thai and he liked it but said it wasn't the best he's ever had. My friend and I both got curries, mine was red curry and she got yellow. I felt the same way my spouse felt about his entree; it was decent but not great. My friend on the other hand wasn't impressed by the yellow curry. Her spouse ordered a dish the waitress recommended, but again he thought it was average. We all agreed that it was worth trying, but not impressive enough to return to when there are so many solid Thai restaurants closer to home.

Yelp
I'm a big fan. Living in midtown, this is my preferred location for Thai food. I always come for lunch. It's a smaller spot and I've been when there's a wait. They really work hard to turn tables, so if there is a wait it won't be for long. With that said, the service is quick. I like to order Panang Curry in the winter for a nice warming meal. Everything else I've had is also enjoyable - Yellow Curry, Pad Thai, Crab Rangoon. Some of the meals are pricier, but the portions are considerably big and provide value for what you pay.

Yelp
After stopping at Cellar Rat and grabbing some wine, we decided to grab some lunch since we were right there. I'm so glad we did. We had some soft spring rolls, some chicken skewers, and a lovely salad that was just the right amount of spice for us. We got all three items which were two appetizers and one salad all for under 40 bucks so a great value all the way around. The staff was attentive, but also not overly involved. The restaurant was clean and tidy, and we were greeted up upon entry. I definitely look forward to going back.

Yelp
Seeing a rocket on the TWA corporate headquarters building, this Thai restaurant is at one block toward south. Always like the decorations in Asian restaurant, and the food would bring one far away to exotic land.
google avatar

Holly W.

Yelp
I went on a Friday night before a show at the Midland. I was greeted quickly at the door by a friendly server. I was waiting on two friends so I ordered the appetizer platter. The crispy and spring rolls were both delicious. The crab rangoon had the right amount of filling. I ordered the massaman with a mild spice level. The spice level was perfect. The curry had a great consistency and the right amount of peanuts. The staff kept our drinks filled and checked in on us often. The patio was open so there was a nice feel of an indoor/outdoor environment.

Yelp
If you are craving Thai food, Baramee's would definitely hit the spot! It's not the BEST Thai food I've had, but it gets the job done. The noodles are fresh and the tom yum soup has good flavor. I ordered the medium spice, but it wasn't that spicy at all. If you're a fan of spice, you can definitely handle medium or spicer! Inside has an open kitchen concept and there's a few tables outdoor too. This would be a cute date spot.

Yelp
Took my family to Baramee Thai Bistro for lunch and we ordered the chicken pad kee mao, chicken Thai noodle soup, and pork pad ka prow. The food was decent overall, but everything was a bit too salty for our taste. The restaurant does get pretty busy during lunch hours, which is understandable, but we felt rushed. We hadn't even been seated for 40 minutes when the waiter brought the check and started clearing the table. Not a terrible experience, but probably wouldn't come back during peak hours.

Morgan C.

Yelp
My favorite thai place in KC! Crab fried rice, pad thai, pad ka prao were all amazing. Excited to try more on the menu I'm sure you can't go wrong with what you order here!
google avatar

Yelp
Although I have yet to dine in here, this is my go-to takeout in KC. Love their pad Thai and orders are made in good time.
google avatar

George G.

Yelp
Outside seating they open the door to the front and allow air to come in that was really nice fun people watching as people walk by food was just perfect we had planned on taking some home but ended up chatting and eating it all and some curry and chicken phad thai just wonderful flavors and quick oh my wow was it quick friendly staff very clean!!!! cant wait to come back

Yelp
I found this place while walking around downtown Kansas City during a conference in October. It's a small place, but don't judge it by its size! I went there that night with two coworkers who were feeling something other than the usual options! We walked from our hotel and found that it was busy! We only had to wait a few minutes for a table to open, but some folks behind us ended up waiting for a bit longer. My coworker ordered spring rolls for the table, and I ordered chicken Pad Thai. Now, I am somewhat mad at myself for ordering that instead of my go-to Thai Fried Rice. I don't know what compelled me to change last minute, but I did regret it. The spring rolls were delicious! The perfect crunch with the perfect flavor of vegetables. The sauce we dipped them in paired perfectly. My Pad Thai came out in a HUGE serving! I was shocked to see their portion sizes! I had hardly eaten all day though, so I was more than thankful! I mentioned that I regretted my order, but it was not because of the Pad Thai which was amazing!! I only regretted this order because if their Pad Thai was so good, I know their Thai Fried Rice would have been life-changing for me! I like Pad Thai in small portions, but it has a sweetness that I get a bit tired of after a certain amount. I never get tired of Thai Fried Rice. The service was quick, and the staff was friendly. We had an overall great time at the restaurant. It was nice to see so many people enjoying great quality food!

Yelp
I ordered pad see eaw...flavor was good but the meat was overcooked and felt like chewing on rubber. Chicken satay was a bit dry as well... I also ordered the bubble tai tea and only got regular Thai Tea. So I paid more for the bubble tea. :/
google avatar

Rachel J.

Yelp
I went to Baramee with a few friends for dinner and I was so impressed! We started off with the tom yum soup with tofu which I think was the star of the show. It was spicy yet tangy and tofu paired so well with the veggies in the soup. I also tried the tom kha cocktail. the coconut milk in it balanced out the spiciness of the meals. It was a 7/10 and would probably try another drink on the menu next time. For the entree I got the pad kee maw with chicken and it was solid. The noodles were soft and the veggies were cooked to perfection. This wasn't the best pad kee maw I've tried but still made so well. My friends and I split the mango sticky rice for dessert. It was quite delicious but nothing out of the ordinary. I would definitely return!
google avatar

Marissa S.

Yelp
Even more delicious when you dine in! This time around, ordered the crispy spring rolls which were so crunchy, and fresh. The Pad Thai medium spice, and the Thai Cashew with chicken in medium spice. First off, portions are huge and we ended up with plenty to take home (although wish we got an extra order of the spring rolls to go - yum!). Medium spice has the perfect amount of kick. Dining in, the quality of food was even better than takeout. The building was clean, cozy, and quiet! Service was on par. Loved what we tried this time around and can't wait to explore more of the menu.
google avatar

Erin C.

Yelp
Spent $24 on shrimp pineapple fried rice....no shrimp. So I spent $3 more on adding pineapple I guess. You have to apparently pay $3 more for shrimp. I ordered it and selected tofu thinking "ok maybe I get two proteins?" Nope. I tried calling to discuss but they weren't really interested in talking about it and loud restaurant so couldn't hear me. FYI at Lulus across the street they have a really great pineapple shrimp fried rice for $18
google avatar

Connie C.

Yelp
The food here was exceptional!!! So flavorful and huge portions! Service was fabulous! Very quaint place!!

Alex P.

Yelp
As a New Yorker, I found the food quite average and on the salty side. This is a favorite restaurant for a local friend of mine. There was a mural that was interesting and fun. Quite busy during lunch hour
google avatar

Kalana M.

Yelp
great thai lunch with my girl friend yesterday! really nice sized portions of food at great prices. perfect amount of heat with the medium heat, we were able to share and still take leftovers home! service was great and she was super funny.
google avatar

Dennis M.

Yelp
Amazing atmosphere in a prime Crossroads location with friendly service and phenomenal authentic flavors & dishes instantly made this the go-to Thai joint.
google avatar

Eric P.

Yelp
Excellent food with superb service. This bistro is an exceptional value given the quality of the food and service. Appetizers, salads, and main courses were all a delight. This will definitely be a regular place to eat for us.
google avatar

Kelsey A.

Yelp
We stumbled upon this place while visiting a friend nearby. I thought the food was delicious but I was not impressed with the service. Next time I think I'll get takeout. This is very small place and they really pack you in. There's nowhere to wait but be prepared to wait and stand awkwardly. we started off with the soft tile and spring roll appetizer, both were delicious. I'm a huge fan of both the sauces that were provided. I ordered a bowl of Tom Kha soup which is made with coconut milk broth with lemon grass, fresh chilies, Galanga, cilantro and spring onions. You can also add a protein, so I added chicken. We also split the house favorite pad ka prao, which is stirfried beef with sweet basil, leaf fresh chili and garlic, served with rice and a fried egg on top. The food was fantastic but again I would probably do takeout next time.

Shannon J.

Yelp
So tasty after a day of driving and eating heavy meals on vacation. Even for our sensitive tastebuds, the mild Panang curry had a nice bite and the pad Thai was deliciously sweet and hot. Quick and efficient service, good value. The place was hopping with happy people of all ages excited to be out eating good food on a Friday night!
google avatar

Camillia E.

Yelp
Went here on a whim by recommendation of a local. I felt as if I were back eating in Thailand. They quickly sat us on a busy night and we didn't wait long for our food. Other than being a bit load from the crowd I enjoyed the atmosphere.
google avatar

Stella Y.

Yelp
This place was constantly busy but I honestly didn't see the appeal. I thought the best dish was their crab ragoon but other than that, I didn't really enjoy the other dishes. I shared the crab fried rice and the pad see ew. Each of the dishes really lacked flavor and was super basic. I don't taste the wok hey like I usually do at Thai restaurants. They have a good chili / spice assortment which helped the dish slightly. However, there was a huge cockroach in the restaurant which I tried to ignore but then when my friend's drink arrived, it also had a small bug in it... they comped it which was nice but after that, I really wasn't impressed.

Abhinav M.

Yelp
Went with my coworkers to this place while we were attending a conference. The place is easy to find and in a good location that's easily accessible. Pros: clean, friendly welcoming staff, fast service, food was good portion size, and it had good flavors. The prices were comparable to surrounding restaurants. Papaya salad was great, the curry was really flavorful and the eggs rolls tasted good. Cons: my food was more salted, egg rolls could have been less greasy, old fashioned was full of ice and tasted super watered down which ruined the taste of it for me, spring rolls could have used more flavor they were bland and used more meat. Overall: good place with good ambiance and service. They have good prices as well and I would highly recommend their curries. Would recommend and visit again.

Aleah M.

Yelp
When we walked in, I could tell we were in for a treat! It feels so authentic in the dining room. Amazing food. The spice level was perfect. The staff are very friendly and welcoming.

Lydia S.

Yelp
Pretty good thai! I very much wish there wasn't country music playing in the background lol. Had the Pad Key Mow and crab rangoon. Good date nite spot.
google avatar

Graham S.

Yelp
For my money, the best Thai in Kansas City. Having lived in Thai Town in East Hollywood for several years, I can definitely say that this spot is one of the few spots that holds a candle to some of my favorites back in L.A. Curries, rice dishes, tiger cry beef, all incredible.
google avatar

Megan B.

Yelp
Food was fantastic and service was great. Would recommend to folks who want a delicious Thai meal.

Yelp
Loved this place! I ordered pho and it was so delicious. Our server was very kind and I loved the casual ambiance of the restaurant.

Yelp
Fantastic, our favorite, consistently delicious, friendly staff, eat in or dine out...we went for my bf's birthday and it's become our spot.

Yelp
A most beautiful place in downtown Kansas City. We were warmly welcomed to this very popular restaurant. Be warned possible long lines on the weekends as they are popular and for good reason! The Thai dishes were so authentic and so delicious, definitely our favorite Thai restaurant in Kansas City! We had the pad Thai, delicious, one of the sweeter styles. If you want true sticky rice you must order otherwise it will be regular jasmine rice. The warm curry was the best we have had in KC! Some curries are too thin for our liking so we really loved the flavor and thickness of this curry. The crab spring rolls were fresh and delicious. Overall, we had an amazing time and would highly recommend this restaurant, especially if you are looking for an authentic higher end Thai restaurant without the high prices! 5 stars! Thank you Baramee!
google avatar

Frank L.

Yelp
Great little spot downtown. I had the green curry Thai hot, and it really was! Very authentic and great service.

Kaiden P.

Yelp
Service was very nice and the food came out very quickly. The food was delicious and the ambiance was also nice
google avatar

Andy M.

Yelp
Just hands down the most delicious Thai food you can find in Kansas City. They excel at the little things like creating rich and delicious sauces for the stir frys, having fresh quality ingredients, and super consistent with dishes flavors and spice level. I also love the sizes of their dishes, which always leave me a little extra to snack on later. It's a pretty busy joint with a smaller setting so expect to wait a little bit if you're dining in. I could go on and on, put simply Baramee is a must try and can't miss in KC!
google avatar

Kala L.

Yelp
no pictures because the food was devoured! like the description says, def a very cozy cute place! service was wonderful and attentive. food came out pretty quick and the flavors were insane! perfect for date night, or just a chill lunch/dinner

Yelp
Had the most delicious dinner at Baramee Thai Bistro tonight. The service was not the best. Upon walking in we were a little perturbed because a party of 4 was sat before us that came in after us and we were only a party of 3. We called it a fluke mistake and went along with our dinner. There were vents over several of the tables and the draft was powerful. This might have been nice in the summer but it was a little chilly tonight. The waitress was also not very friendly and was pushy. We waited a long time to order which was understandable as it was kind of busy. We asked for our spring rolls to come out as an appetizer and it came out with all the other food. This would have been okay except for the fact that the rest of our food was cold by the time we got to eating it. The food was really good though. The taste was worth struggling through the service for. I tried the Pad Ka Prao and it was delicious! I got the medium spice level and it was still fairly mild. I like a bit more spice so I would opt for the hot next time. The spring roll deluxe was good. I would say they were about typical compared to other places. I also tried the Tom Kha Soup with chicken. It was sooo tasty. It was my favorite part for sure. It was too bad that they over charged it for me. They charged me the beef/shrimp price instead of the chicken somehow or maybe the prices went up and the menu was not updated. It was just a couple bucks so I did not bother saying anything. The food was delicious and would easily be a five star but the service left much to be desired. I would go back but I would consider ordering to go next time.
google avatar

Amy J.

Yelp
Calamari was not flavorful or great in texture. Thai tea was good but no Splenda or sweeteners to be found. My taro bubble tea was super creamy and thick- yum!
google avatar

Dawn H.

Yelp
This cozy shop is a delight. The service is perfect, the atmosphere is lovely. I wanted to give this place 5 stars but everything was just a little off. The tonic (gin cocktail) was pretty sweet and the herbal flavors got lost. The mai tai was pretty over-the-top sweet. My spouse summed it up well by saying, "tastes like a kid's drink." The Gang curry was delicious but the menu says "mild" and I ordered it mild and it was FAR from mild. I love Massaman curry so I was pretty sad that all the flavor nuance was overwhelmed by the heat. The Pad Thai was probably the most disappointing. The menu says that the tamarind provides a tangy aftertaste. But the tamarind was pretty overpowering and the whole dish was dessert-sweet. The Crispy Spring Rolls were delicious. We will probably go back once more to see if they were just having an off night.
google avatar

Ara A.

Yelp
Had the beef basil, but it was ground beef and I was slightly disappointed by that. I prefer beef strips instead of ground beef. The taste on the other hand was great, I ordered it spicy and it was an excellent spice level.

Yelp
Baramee is hands-down one of my favorite places to eat. I don't know if I can sum up a review better than that. Do you have friends coming into town? Go to Baramee. Have a reason to celebrate and eat great food? Baramee. Do you just want to eat? Baramee. All occasions, anytime. Food--I have now officially had food from all the different sections of the menu, and I can vouch that they are on fire with their offerings. I won't lie that my favorites are Pad See Ew and any of the curries, but we recently tried a "from the wok" which was so flavorful and mouth watering! Drinks--I've had cocktails, beer, wine, and sake here. They have it all! Usually have a couple of local beers on tap (last time I was there, they were Cinder block IPA and Stockyards Cerveza Royale), and a variety of Asian beers (Singha, Chang, Asahi, etc). Ambiance and service--this place definitely has its own style, and I love it! The place feels very homey. It's not big, so if you have a larger group, you may have to wait quite a while (they only have two big tables), and they don't take reservations. If you have 1-4 people, you should be able to get in pretty quickly (usually!). They workers are all super friendly and very patient, so I love everything about this place. Is this review too flattering? You can think what you want. But I want to really emphasize how much I appreciate this place!! Thanks for all the great times, Baramee staff!!

Yelp
This is undoubtedly my favorite thai restaurant in kansas city! I always get their pad thai which is absolutely delicious and the portions are huge so I will always have a second meal for myself. The ambiance is great and I've noticed this is a favorite among all my friends as well. It's in such a quiet part of the neighborhood but they have lots of business. Great restaurant, and always excited to come back
