Union League

Took my wife here for dinner to celebrate our 1st wedding anniversary - cannot recommend enough. They do a proper coat check (Arthur, who took our coats and then returned them, sets an incredibly welcoming tone to the experience), which was lovely. They also gave us a lovely card for our anniversary and some beautiful (and tasty) macarons on a decorated plate. Our waitress, Kaula (I believe, I forgot to check the bill for the spelling), was attentive and gave fantastic recommendations. They serve gougères and incredibly soft and air bread before the meal, and we ordered the Duck Confit, which was one of the most delicious dishes I've had since...well, ever (plus the presentation was magnificent). My wife said she could have had three of them for her meal and it was the best non-dessert component of the meal. For dinner, my wife had the Beef Wellington - she doesn't love mushrooms, but she left nothing behind in her enthusiasm for it. The beef was incredibly tender and the crust was perfectly buttery and flakey (she said Paul Hollywood would be proud). I had the Bone Marrow Filet (Kaula's favorite), which was perfection. It was cooked exactly how I requested; tender and juicy, with incredible flavor that required no sauce or extras to gussy up. Finally for dessert Nina had the feuillantine - another Kaula favorite) - which she adored. I had the Pecan Tart, which was excellent. Not an inexpensive meal, but well worth the price - the atmosphere is classy and relaxed, the staff friendly and helpful, and perhaps mostly crucially the food exquisite.

I cannot wait to return to this fantastic space, with some fantastic staff. The updated and renovated upper ballroom is quite exquisite with a breathtaking view of the city thru gorgeous windows and you feel taken back almost to a different time and space. I am especially grateful for ARTHUR whom helped at great lengths to ensure I had a pleasant experience. I almost want to plan a random party just so I can return to this amazing space! Don't hesitate to call them and book your next event!

My wife and I had an absolutely wonderful birthday lunch recently. From the moment we arrived we were greeted warmly and our coats were checked. Everyone on the staff is professional and very friendly plus the food was outstanding. We started with scallop ceviche then moved onto tuna tartare and a wonderful tuna nicoise salad. Another highlight for me was the gin cucumber gimlet, one of the best cocktails I've ever had. Thank you so much for making my birthday special, I look forward to returning soon.

Arthur was and always is outstanding! From the moment we walked in the doors he greeted us with a, “happy anniversary” and handed us a handwritten card wishing us well on our 16th anniversary. He offered to take our coats properly. He is an exceptional employee who truly cares about every patron that walks in the door. People will forget things they are given but they will never forget how you made them feel. Arthur made us feel like family and we will never forget that feeling. The food is top tier and never disappoints. This is the classiest, nicest place to go in New Haven and you will not be disappointed.

The new management & staff have elevated a New Haven staple to an even higher level! Everything was amazing. The Duck Confit is a must have! French dip was delicious. The Radiatori Pasta was also amazing. Definitely going back!

Gorgeous spot if you’re feeling bougie. We wanted some high end wine and this was the spot. The sommelier was knowledgeable and chose a 1er cru burgundy for us and we enjoyed with a crab radiatori pasta. All perfect.

I had one of the best meals I have ever had in Nee Haven. Everything was perfect, from the service to the dessert. Highly recommend giving it a try! The escargot with those little pastries were divine. The lobster was beautifully presented and delicious. Th steak encrusted in bone marrow stole the show! And as an Old-Fashioned aficionado, I can’t express how happy I was with my drink. I’d definitely be coming back soon.

The entire Union League staff made our wedding an absolute dream. Our goal was to provide our guests with an incredibly fun evening paired with the best food of their lives, which Union League 100% achieved. The entire venue was the perfect backdrop to our classically elegant wedding theme, and the entire staff went above and beyond in every way to make sure our evening went smoothly and guests were taken care of in every single way. Throughout the planning process, Stephanie and JC were so patient and gracious with our questions, and accommodating to any of our requests, including menu flexibility and dietary restrictions. It was a pleasure getting to know them and we are so grateful for their assistance. Every one of our guests complimented us on how it was the best wedding food they’ve ever had, and what an amazing atmosphere Union League provided. We were so happy that a place that’s been our special occasion restaurant was able to become even more special by hosting our wedding, and we cannot wait to relive our special day by continuing to return to Union League for all the years to come.

If you're looking for a romantic date night, with excellent food that you only have seen in magazines, then this is the place for you. This is also the type of place where you don't take out your phone and snap a quick photo either. The restaurant is basically on the campus of Yale, so parking isn't easy, either take an Uber or you might have to park in the parking garage, also you'll need to make a reservation. I ordered the Pan-roasted Long Island duck breast, pearl onions, local peaches, corn croquettes, chanterelle mushrooms, duck jus, it was absolutely delicious! I wish I could have ordered another plate of it! Overall, it was a great experience and a delicious dinner. This isn't the first time I've been there either.

I came here with a big group that had a set menu so I can only talk about that. Union League Cafe had been on my list for a while but I'd never had a chance to visit since it's on the fancier end of the price spectrum and vibe. The service was great! Everyone is very attentive and polite. For the food, overall, I thought it was very salty. Not to the point that it was inedible but I was certainly downing a lot of water. Other than the saltiness, the flavours were great. Overall, I'm not sure if I'd go again on my own dime but I'm glad I got to try them.

Four stars for the ambience and service; the food was just okay. I have been looking forward to dining here given the history and decided to treat my fiancé for his graduation dinner. The dining room is cozy and beautiful. We were seated in the corner and had a great view of the fireplace. We had the tasting menu, which is entirely left up to the chef. Fair warning: be very specific about your dietary restrictions or preferences--we unfortunately ran in some issues. The blackberry sorbet was stellar--fresh and tangy. Also, the portion sizes were quite small. Overall, it was a pleasant dinner.

The greeting at the front desk, the table for two in the window, the information from our waiter; where have I been all these years in Connecticut without dining here. Don't call the authorities but I am addicted. The pleasure remained throughout the meal. Frigid sparkling water on a hot day started our journey through the menu. Unfortunately we skipped reading the entrées as soon as we found out that duck was on the menu in a new costume and dazzling choreography. We both had the Canard aux Peches with its pearl onions, braised red cabbage, caramelized yellow endives, fresh peaches and carrot crisps. The plating was almost too perfect but I did manage to disarrange everything as I enjoyed all the flavors. We paired this with a perfect Vin Rosé. Almost too full for dessert I ordered the Mignardises and was delighted with each little masterpiece. Staff get ready I will return...

Absolute 5/5 on service, ambiance, food, dessert, location, and overall value. Would give this place 6 stars if I could. Probably the best restaurant in New England.

This was my second time at Union League Cafe to celebrate my parents' 47th anniversary. We had the loveliest evening! The service is outstanding and the ambience is classy and charming and makes you feel like you're stepping back in time. The cocktail list is so inviting it's hard to choose just one! All of us enjoyed our drinks. For apps we had the foie gras terrine (with duck confit) and steak tartare. Both were tasty. I had the lamb shank special that was just to die for! Everyone else finished every morsel on their plates. We had the soufflé of the day (mixed berry - the only thing I was not impressed by) and the pistachio chioux (unbelievable!!!!). Our server brought out macarons with a "happy anniversary" note for my parents and totally made their night. We love the charm and quality at Union League and cannot wait to return!

It's hard for me to believe I have never reviewed ULC since it has been our special occasion restaurant for some time. Our anniversary is Valentine's Day - the means, in most restaurants, crowds, noise, and a not great experience. ULC is the consumate Valentine's experience. It starts with us being wished a happy anniversary as our coats are taken. Then to our table and an amuse bouche and complementary glass of sparkling rose. We then moved on to our 3 course dinner - foie gras (the one just ok dish) and scallops (excellent!,) then lobster and lamb - each delectable. Desert was a pistachio chocolate tart for my husband and the coeur for me. Excellent service, excellent food, special occasion ambiance. We love the ULC.

Union league has his own, since I move to New Haven this restaurants was one of the best. After many years I decided to celebrate my Birthday and I did not regret, the host was very nice and our waiter was very knowledgeable of what food they serve. The food was just fantastic the restaurants had so many history and it's just amazing ambiance .

First time visiting the Union League and must say- we will be back. We visited France last year and craved the meals we had in Paris. Union league brought us right back to our vacation! We enjoyed everything about our night out. Starting with the arrival, excellent staff who first took our coats and then seated us right away. The ambiance was perfect, intimate, and cozy. I started with House Smoked salmon and it was delicious, my husband had the Foie Gras and he raved about it. I had Lamb chops they were tender and cooked perfectly not overdone at all I'm not a huge fan of mushrooms but these were fabulous!

Not much I can say about this experience that isn't evident in the photos. This restaurant was everything I'd heard about for years, and more. The hostess and host were friendly and inviting, even the young man taking our coats was kind, gentle, and eager to please. We were sat early and really spent our time enjoying drinks first and then appetizers, then entrees and dessert over a three hour period. It's possible our waiter wasn't thrilled with this, and he sometimes seemed to be in a bad mood. We chalked that up to his being French and "passionate" about his Profession--perhaps taking himself too serious. All the dishes were meticulously cooked and presented. The mussels were perfectly steamed, buttery, lemony, herbaceous and most importantly--clean. Generous amounts of crispy fresh bread accompanied the dish and plenty to go around for everyone to taste the sauce. The Icelandic Cod dish was a seared filet on a bed of leeks, artichokes barigoule, chickpea crisps, and a sumptuous mousseline, clams, watercress sauce and an outrageous caviar crème. One of the dishes was on the specials menu and may not be there, when you visit. The Chicken and Morels Vol Au Vent was a tender roasted chicken breast with a delicious seared tarragon boudin blanc, Oregon morels, asparagus, in a creamy mushroom sauce, topped with a puff pastry--a triumph! The ravioli was incredibly decadent and difficult to eat slowly--a medley of alpine French cheese ravioli, parsnip purée, Swiss chard, seacoast farm mushroom, topped with freshly shaved black winter truffle in a creamy potato emulsion. This is a top ten dinning experience and highly recommended for a special dinner. While our server could have been more personal, and not messed up so many times, at least he apologized. The difference between a server with a bad attitude, and a server who is too hard on themselves, is, at least part of the service can be attributed to over-achieving, versus someone who doesn't care at all. So, we forgave this server and hope he lightens up a little. The food was just too good to let that taint our experience. But an adjustment may need to be made there. ***Be aware that this restaurant charges a 4% "Kitchen Appreciation Fee" on food only, which reward the kitchen staff for their hard work, creating an incentivized work environment that ultimately encourages creativity, loyalty and a better experience for all of us diners. If you're going out to a restaurant if this caliber, you just can't count dollars. You have to accept that you will pay handsomely for this level of quality.

One of my favorite restaurants growing up in New Haven. They serve classic French food but with some modern options. Always delicious. The ambience is elegant and cozy. The staff is welcoming and professional.

Came here for a birthday celebration. Parking was 2 blocks away and convenient. Nice ambience, food was overall excellent! Foie gras was very mediocre but other appetizer we tried was fresh and wonderful. We got the duck (fairly large portion) and the lamb. Both were delicious and we left feeling full but not bloated as we typically would after eating out. Dessert was a strawberry soufflé that was airy, soft, like a soft marshmallow cloud. We would definitely come back again.

We returned to Union League for my wife's Birthday on Friday the 31 of May. We were greeted, seated and served in such a fine manor, similar to what I recalled several years ago. With Champagne to start, Oysters, octopus, and veal Shank, all served to perfection along with a nice bottle of Bordeaux. Can't wait to come back again!!!!

Worst experience I've had at a restaurant. Booked a chef tasting for our anniversary over a week in advance. Specifically picked this place because the website said the chef would "create the menu with your allergies, restrictions, and preferences on a per person basis" When we called, made it clear one person could not eat onions. Confirmed both raw or cooked. Told it would be no issue and would be safe to eat there. Arrived on our anniversary very excited only to be asked shortly after being seated if the onion issue was both raw and cooked and if it was only a preference because all the sauces had onion. Confirmed again could not eat onions at all raw or cooked. Was told no accommodation could be made despite the website saying so, calling over a week in advance, and it being out anniversary. Not only could I not get the chef tasting, but only one item on the regular menu had no onions and was an appetizer and not a meal. Had to leave after driving far to get there, in the pouring rain, not knowing the area to know where else to go nearby in the pouring rain. By the time we drove home most restaurants were closing. I grew up without a lot of money never going out to eat. I have never once planned to spend $100 for one meal. I was really looking forward to this special occasion dinner and experience. I had told numerous friends and coworkers about it. Others were interested to try it if good. But I will instead have to share this horrible experience. The waiter clearly felt bad. But I don't understand the chef not making an accommodation when the website says they do and when we called so far in advance and were told it was no problem. I left in tears.

I'm reviewing one lunch dish-- the lobster omelet. It is an omelet absotely packed with simple, unseasoned steamed spinach with a very few pieces of tepid lobster, one small claw that had cartilage, and a lobster flavored sauce. I would avoid ordering this dish. Very disappointing.

OMG! This place never disappoints! I've been here 4 times and I've always loved my meals! This last time was for an anniversary and they greeted us with a "Thank you for coming to celebrate your anniversary with us". Waitstaff is always attentive and almost invisible. Our dinner started with escargot, God help me, I love these things! Comes out piping hot and cooked to perfection. We had the cheese plate with mustards and jams accompanying the nice toasts. We also had shrimp cocktail. All delicious! Although I was getting stuffed, I couldn't wait for my dinner! I had the Homard Chaterelles, poached lobster with mushrooms and asparagus and peas also gnocchi that was tender and delicious all in a lobster bisque. So much going on with this plate and so good! My husband had the Black Sea bass that was cooked to perfection. He devoured it after letting me have one bite. I took pictures! We finished the meal off with the daily special soufflé. Strawberry rhubarb yum! I'm looking forward to the next time we come in October because some of the specials will be different for fall.

The first bread is really little bite-sized bread balls, but the other bread is a more traditional bread and butter. Both are very fresh and delicious When I came for dinner I ordered the steak and a passionfruit drink -The drink was very tasty and it even had a chunk of passionfruit on the side. I liked it so much I got 2 -The steak was seasoned and cooked perfectly, and it came with sides of potatoes, salad, and asparagus. All of them were very tasty as well 7.5

Very upscale which honestly I wasn't expecting. I knew it would be nice though. Food didn't disappoint. Service was absolutely amazing. We ate so many appetizers that we didn't need dinner. Crème Brûlée was amazing!

My boyfriend and I went here because we wanted to get a fancy dinner to celebrate some accomplishments. The ambiance was really nice, it wasn't too loud so it was easy to hear each other even though we were right next to the speaker, and the fake candle was a nice touch. We sat at a side table so we had a artsy view out the window at the Union league sign. Our server was very friendly and helpful in explaining what certain dishes were. I got the Local Black Fish Bouillabaisse, which I enjoyed. The sauce was really light which I liked. My only comment is for the price I feel like there should've been more pieces of seafood. My boyfriend got the goat cheese tortellini and really really enjoyed it. We finish things off with the Apple dome which was light and sweet. Overall, I think Union League has a really nice vibe but is a bit overpriced for what you're getting. I'd be curious to come back and try their duck but it will likely be a while until we come back given the price points.

Came for an event so I was in one of the upstairs rooms but had to walk around because there was so much history that took place here that I was unaware of. The inside is gorgeous with stained glass window. Everything was nicely set up for the event and our server was good. For drinks I tried 2 non-alcoholic beverages the ginger citronade aka ginger lemonade and Guadalupe both were very enjoyable and went too fast. They give complimentary bread and butter to begin. Given that I was at an event I had to choose between a selection of food. As a starter I tried the cauliflower soup it was definitely different from what I expected given that it was cold like a gazpacho but I was pleasantly surprised at how much I liked it. For my entree I had the 8oz prime beef Bavette which was superb. I thoroughly enjoyed it, not enough words can express how good it was. I also enjoyed the pomme boulangere that came with it. The steak was so tender and the sauce was incredible. For dessert I had the coconut entremet which was delightful. This was definitely one of my favorite meals I will be back! Pricey place but if it comes out that good every time then I would say it's worth it!

First time visiting Union League and must say it's now on our list - at or near the top. Arrival - excellent, personable staff who took our coats and dealt with the fact we were 15mins early for our reservation. Ambiance - a delicate balance of upscale smart casual - you can dress up and fit in or you can go smart casual and be equally comfortable. Food - total winner - some great plates that were unpretentious and just delivered exactly what you expect. Wait staff - again, can't be faulted, efficient, knowledgeable, personable and helped make the experience. We will be back, as often as we can!

I think Union League Cafe has two sets of staff. 1 team for Yale's parents weekend, 1 for the rest of the year. On parents weekend, the food is solid and the ambience is quite refined. Besides that one weekend, Union League Cafe only poses as a French fine dining establishment. When I went with my grandmother recently, we were appalled by the food. The salad was dressed as if done so by a fire hose and the steak au poivre was a completely different cut of meat than expected. We decided to skip dessert to save the pain, but they graced us with 2 complimentary raspberry candies. I can still taste them to this day - sticky, sickly sweet, and wholly inedible.

An amazingly unique place. Beautiful art on the walls, murals, an awesome fire place. The inside feels truly special. Teddy and the other bartender (regret forgetting her name) went above and beyond on my dads birthday providing a free birthday desert. We were only there to get one drink so they didn't have to do that but we really appreciated it and it was very generous. The cocktails were unbelievable and the people there made everyone feel like we were the most important people in the world. Cant wait to go back. Thank you!!

I was looking for a nice birthday spot for my mother and this place was overwhelmingly recommended and I see why. The ambiance and setting is just one that makes you feel like you worked hard and deserved a fancy treat. This is definitely a treat yourself place. Ambiance: Classy, white tablecloth, woodsy interior French vibe. We sat right near the fireplace which was comfy. Definitely loud and lively. I would have preferred a more quiet environment as it would've made for a more relaxing meal, but I can't control that. Food: I got a duck confit which was really good. It was my first time trying it and the meat was really buttery. I was just disappointed because I thought I would get duck leg as I've heard that's a pretty good part, but I got shredded duck meat with what seemed to be a fried potato shell on top. Maybe the duck leg is an entree? We all enjoyed our meals the sauces with the fishes were delectable. Portion sizes were good as well. Drink: I got a ginger club soda which was really refreshing and the fresh ginger and lime was a good, tart pick me up. Server: Our server was really kind and to be quite honest, I was worried that service in a place like this would be snooty and uppity, but he was very professional and nice.

Very good food and attentive service in a gracious and elegant space. Highly recommended!

Ah yes, the coveted union League Cafe. Service is increíble and gives you a sense of royalty. However the food while is good, it does not meet expectations of the high price tag. Ambiance is of old money i.e titanic dinner vibes. I only come here when invited by others, but would not go out of my way to dine here given that most of the food is pricey and unable to satisfy my palate for spices (i.e bland)

Dining at Union League is an exquisite experience. From the lovely host escorting us to our table to the DIVINE chocolate soufflé we had for dessert. The service is impeccable, the dining room is stunning and the food is phenomenal. We have dined at Union League twice and are already looking forward to our next visit.

A special place to celebrate a special occasion. Great, interesting food (beef and swordfish were both excellent). Most impressive to me was the service--some of the best I've ever experienced: attentive but not intrusive. A wonderful place

I've walked past this place always telling myself I'll go one day and the day finally came. I had brunch here and not only was the food phenomenal the service was just as great. I ate outside & started with a croissant with jam that was made my heavens sweet angels and then eggs Benedict with home fries it was SO good! My honey ate some sort of ham/grilled cheese meal and it was ahhhmazing too. I'm deathly scared of bees but even the bees were friendly I didn't ask to move for the first time they litterhad all the reason to stop by the table cause the food is beee-ond tasty , so therefore I give a 3 thumbs up. I will totally be back esp if I can get another amazing waitress again like Reene.

Union league is doing dine in and dine out. The inside is very spacious and clean. The food was very good. I got the 3 dishes shown in the photos for about $40 so it's definitely quite pricey. The croque was super good. Very rich and cheesy. I substituted the ham for spinach and mushrooms -- the staff was very kind about substitutions. The croissant was super fluffy. I wish it was warm. The jam was amazing. Some of the best jam I've ever had. I don't know the name of the dessert, but it was super good. Incredibly light and airy. Not too sweet. The bottom has a cool crunch factor. Overall, the food was good. This is definitely one of the most expensive places in the area though.

My husband and I had dinner at Union League Café for our wedding anniversary. We had a great service from Jillian! The food was exquisite! We will be back for brunch to try new items on the menu.

Our fifth visit. Outstanding! Everything is always perfect. Service is flawless and invisible when it needs to be. I never touched the wine carafe, yet my glass somehow was always full. I didn't realize I had dropped my napkin until it magically appeared folded at my right hand as a junior waitstaff silently disappeared into the shadows as I looked up. Renee served us, and Nigel has served us in the past. Both are excellent. They magically know when to be in your line of sight and know when to leave you to your meal and your guests. And no matter how busy they are, they make you feel like the only guest. And they serve food! Even the table bread is perfect. The little amuse bouche puffs! Oysters were perfect. Duck confit!!!!! Wow! Beef wellington - perfect, tender, juicy, rich, puff pastry, light flaky, Buche Noel and Creme Broule were very nice. And the latte exhibited this really cool soliton like wave that would still be moving had we not drunk it ! Just go. You will not be disappointed!

This was an awesome finding for a perfect date nite with my fiancé !! Walking up to the entrance of a historic building lead us into a staircase that immediately gave me a France vibes !!! We walked into a huge main dining room that was socially " filled with ambiance and exceedingly socialite. Can we say a diluted Balthazar. A must to visit when in New Haven.

Great atmosphere and service. Their menu has become limited in selection and in flavor. I don't think they're going to be around in a couple years.

I went here one time and it had to be one of the best meals I've had! The service was amazing, the food was flavorful and the portions were a perfect size. However it is very expensive

I'm always on the hunt for a stellar meal and I found one last night at the Union League Cafe. Our waitperson was friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. My friend had the Canard À L'Orange which was absolutely perfect. I'd come back for that dish alone. I had a veal from the daily special menu, which was also incredibly delicious. We shared a berry soufflé for dessert which came with a scoop of sorbet, both were amazing (actually the sorbet was stellar!!). As a former New Yorker I loved the vibe - it felt urban in a way that I really miss now that I live out in the wilds of western Massachusetts. I highly recommend this place.

The Union League Cafe is a lovely traditional restaurant right by the Yale campus. It is not one of these new modern restaurants, but that does not take away from its delicious food and warm atmosphere. The staff was very professional and kind.

As always. Perfect. Dining solo on the afternoon of Christmas Eve could have been fraught with all sorts of emotions, but, the ambiance, friendliness and delicious cuisine made up for it all. Highly recommend!!!

Service was great, and it's a beautiful location. However, I left feeling disappointed. The food was Fine, but really felt like something just didn't jive for me. I don't think I'd return.

Simply amazing food and service! Everything I ordered - the endive salad, the duck (canard au chou), and the grand marnier souffle were prepared to perfection with high quality ingredients! In addition, when we initially told our server that I must eat gluten free, he did not bat an eyelash. Everything I ordered already happened to be GF already (and he knew this off hand), but they brought me gluten free toast when my husband was served baguette slices and told me which of my husband's dishes I could try. For those that have a food sensitivity, this consideration means everything for a most pleasant dining experience. Also appreciated was that, after suggesting some wines we liked, our server guided us to a delicious wine within our budget that went very well with both our entrees. My husband ordered the duck confit appetizer and the venison (chevreuil aux poivres), both delicious and perectly prepared. He also loved the grand marnier souffle. It's so rare that everything we might both order in a restaurant would be so wonderful. We will definitely be back with our foodie friends!

The place was elegant and service from the staff was outstanding. From outside the building, you will not think that the place is upscale. However, we were disappointed with the entrees we ordered. Dishes were beautifully plated but they fell short on the taste. The halibut was not exciting and the lobster was undercooked. I am not a fan of risotto otherwise I will not order the lobster have I known that the "pilaf" equated to risotto like. The saving graces were the appetizers, octopus and escargot. For the dessert, the soufflé which I was told a combination of mango and pineapple tasted more of a tart with pineapple... seems a lot of egg in it. Didn't taste the mango at all. Chocolate entrement was just okay.

I almost want to move back to New Haven (the Taft) just so I can eat here more often. The dinner I had (on the 6th anniversary of my father's death) was everything I hoped it would be. And in NYC at Vaucluse (RIP, btw) it would have been 100 dollars easily. It was just 66 before tip. 1) Escargot: Maybe the best ever had. Just delicious with a tomato broth under the snail and a thin toast on top. 2) Duck: this was magical. It was March and I cannot remember the details but it's big enough to serve as an entree. 3) Manhattan: Wonderful! 4) Glass of red wine (13 or 14/glass and not a chintzy pour). Bread to die for. They bring it buy and you point at which type you want. It's like eating in a museum. Just incredible---and confirms that when you eat out in Manhattan, 40% of every bite goes to rent.

One classy joint with tasty French cuisine. Overall, I really liked all our dishes, though nothing totally blew me out of the water. My husband and I came for restaurant week in the spring of 2018. The first course was probably my favorite, and it was hard to choose a favorite between the Terrine de Canard and Veloute de Champignons. Both were rich without being too overdone. My husband's Osso Bucco was good, but I've had better, more tender home-cooked Osso Bucco. I liked my rainbow trout, and the cauliflower puree really made the dish for me. Dessert was a little less exciting for me. Our waitress was fine though a little cold. Maybe she was sick of the restaurant week crowd. Overall, though, the space is quite gorgeous and classic. I'd definitely come back here for a special occasion.

Truly a lovely experience from start to finish. The heirloom tomato and watermelon salad was light and delicious. Had the quail which was wonderful with pannise. My wife had the lamb which was magnificent! Large noisette perfectly cooked. Had the soufflé for dessert - amazing. Prices also very fair. Our server was perfectly professional and the attention to details was outstanding. So very attentive to every details. Had a Muscadet, Loire white wine which was delicious and the wine list was fair and very extensive with both a large selection of wines by the glass and bottles Next Tim in New Haven I definitely won't miss this one. It's a great meal in a delightful surroundings and truly memorable experience. We'll be back. Can't wait.

We enjoyed a lovely meal there last night with the mussels, duck and desert being the stand outs. The real star of the show is the ambience and service, however. This is a grand dining experience with attentive, affable and knowledgeable staff and old school elegance. If you're looking for a big night out experience, this is the spot. Highly recommended.

One of my favorite spots in New Haven. The waitstaff is extraordinary and super knowledgeable. I love the Gruyere puffs served upon arrival. The foie gras is always a must and their seafood towers are as fresh as can be. The main dishes often rotate or change- if the Nova Scotia lobster is there, order it. I could go on about every dish and appetizer but honestly try them all for yourselves. The deserts are worth ordering an extra to go. I wish they regularly featured Mille-feuille, I think I've only seen it once on their desert menu. Expect to spend a hefty amount here but you'll leave with no regrets. A couple of times when I have been here the food has come out warm and not hot as it should be- still delicious nonetheless. The only complaint I would have if any is that the chef was rude. In many places the chef will come out to greet guests and check up on food. I often come with a larger group and we order quite a bit which may have prompted the chef to come out on the floor. Upon his arrival he seemed uninterested and unfriendly. Was quite off-putting... c'est la vie. Lastly, if you're a caviar fan, they serve it with the fluffiesst blini

Came here to celebrate boyfriend's birthday. Got the chef's tasting menu. The food was okay. Nothing to write home about. I'm also not a huge French food fan so that may be why. Boyfriend liked the food more than me. It was a bit heavy. Definitely caters to an older demographic. Most of the people there were above 40 years old. Not really kid friendly in my opinion. Service was good and the happy birthday dessert was a cute surprise. Not sure if I would come again, but it was a nice experience. If you like traditional French cuisine, this may be the place for you.

I'm always in the hunt for restaurants that is comparable from the ones on New York. This particular one reminds me of Balthazar. Don't misconstrue the statement as the aforementioned is in a different league. Union offers fine dining in New Haven. They have an extensive menu- escargots? anyone? need I say more. My wife and I enjoyed this place/ yet another go to place.
