Houston’s Best Food Trucks | Eater Houston

"Columbian and Venezuelan street snacks can be found at this good ol’ Washington Avenue standby. In addition to arepas and cheesy tequeños, there are hearty finds like the choriperro, a plate of Columbian chorizo, queso blanco, chicharrones, and more. Be sure to be on the lookout for their arepa of the month, an ever-changing rotation of arepas with fillings from fried plantains to Venezuelan hand cheese. Tasty Arepa also has a new location in Richmond." - Megha McSwain

A Washington Avenue standby for Venezuelan and Colombian street foods — arepas, tequeños, patacones, and choriperros. Frequently recommended on Eater Houston maps and loved by late-night crowds.

Used to love this place but it is highly average now. We ordered 4 things and the only thing that was seasoned or flavorful was the fancy Colombian hot dog. Empanadas seem like they’re from Costco and the cheese Tequenos are like cheesy breadsticks from a school lunch. Not even the exterior of actual tequenos and the cheese was crumbly with no pull (aka they were just frozen beforehand and not prepared properly). Arepa was okay. Needed more flavor and the pork was incredibly chewy. The mayo based salsa was the only thing that made it enjoyable for me. All of this on top of the fact that it’s very pricey. Didn’t experience the poor service that others have mentioned - that would have ruined it for me. I genuinely don’t leave this review to tear the business down, but to ask them to make some changes and go back to what it used to be. Went from something I recommended to something I would advise against unless there aren’t other options. They have catered more towards providing average burgers and fries to the average bar patron instead of focusing on the flavors of the cuisine that used to make it great.

Absolutely incredible experience! The food was bursting with authentic Colombian flavor—every bite tasted fresh, comforting, and made with love. From the perfectly seasoned dishes to the warm, welcoming atmosphere, everything felt thoughtfully done. The service was friendly and attentive, making us feel right at home. This place truly captures the heart of Colombian cuisine. I can’t wait to come back and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for amazing food and a great dining experience.

I really wanted to like this place, but unfortunately, this was one of the worst food truck experiences I’ve had. First off, communication was a major challenge — no one seemed to speak English, which made ordering really frustrating. I understand and respect cultural differences, but when you're running a business in an English-speaking area, basic communication with your customers is essential. Service was slow, disorganized, and honestly, borderline rude. It felt like they didn’t care at all whether we got our food or not. We waited over 30 minutes, and when the food finally came out, it looked nothing like what we ordered — and tasted even worse. Everything was either undercooked, over-salted, or just plain bland. I’m not sure how Colombian and Venezuelan cuisine, which is usually full of flavor, could be turned into something so tasteless and unappetizing. Definitely not going back. There are much better Latin food options elsewhere that actually care about their customers and quality. Save your time and money.

The best food omg finger licking good. The service family oriented is the best. They attend to you like if they have known you for a long time, makes you like family. I definitely recommend this food truck. Thank you so much for your good service.

I have tried many arepa places and I was disappointed. I was told my order would only take 15 minutes, only for my order to take 30 minutes. Mind you, I only got 1 Tasty arepa and I paid close to $10, NEVER AGAIN! I have paid that for 2 Arepas at other places. Food wasn’t even hot, more so warm. Also, a gentleman that I’m almost a 100 percent ordered after me, got his food before I did and I was the first one there. Someone apologized to me, but at that point I was just hungry and irritated because I wanted my food. I normally give rage reviews, but this place wasn’t it for me, but maybe you will decide to try it out and like it. Never getting my money again.

Very nice people, I love the Latino music and the food is tasty, indeed very delicious. I have never try an arepa before, I order the Mexican arepa, very yummy but be careful with the hot sauce. That sauce is hot af. Also each arepa goes around $8 dollar and up so if you eat more than 3 lol, will look kinda expensive. But again, they are very delicious.

fast service, fantastic flavors, great recipe!!! The beef was a bit hard but the flavors made up for it. Typically the beef is very soft and tender so i think i just came too late in the night. I love the plantains in it

Super friendly, very attentive and most of all delicious. We got an order of fries that had seasoning and my son couldnt eat them. They gave us a free order of fries with just salt just for him. The arepas are delicious! Highly recommend and will continue to come back.
