The 30 Best Restaurants in Boise, Idaho | Eater

"Located just steps from the state capitol and around the corner from Boise’s restaurant row on 8th Street, Saint Lawrence Gridiron is a place you’ll smell before you see it. This onetime food truck delivers bold Southern flavors, thanks to a giant smoker on the front patio where all of the meat magic happens. You’ll regret not ordering the brisket platter, although the pulled-pork sandwich, shrimp and grits, and side of succotash are all solid choices." - Scott Ki

Smoky aromas spill from the front-yard pit at this downtown original. Idaho Statesman critics and Eater both praise its Southern-inflected plates, from brisket platters to shrimp and grits, all rooted in careful sourcing and technique.

This was our second brunch stop of our weekend in Boise, and this was also a great choice. Gavin was our bartender, and he gave us perfect service, while Chris was the server on duty, and he helped out with food recommendations, city recommendation, and everything in between. I had the Naked Sunbather Brown beer, and wife had a French 75, and both were worthy starts to the Sunday. For food, Chris recommended the Brisket Benedict after I gave him my laundry list of possibilities and it didn't disappoint. One thing I will say. All of the ingredients tasted high quality, but the brisket itself was a game changer. Tasted like it was cooked with extreme care. Wife had the shrimp and grits and loved the dish. The atmosphere was nice and energetic. No TV on for sports, but that is not really the experience at this place. We sat at the bar, but the table experience looked quality too. I spaced on taking additional pics of the restaurant, so sorry about that, but have included two pics of our food. The restaurant is right on 8th, so you are in the heart of everything post-meal. I highly recommend visiting here for a meal or a drink during any Boise fun, and see you there (the next time we are in Boise)...

You can smell the smokeed meat as you approach. Its a Small space, well staffed, good food and nice happy hour specials. I got the PBR Platter, loved the brisket and ribs. The pulled pork was a little dry. I found the greens a little under cooked and the coleslaw was bland but the pickles and pickled onions were good. It's a lot of food, so come hungry. Oh and it comes with a PBR tall boy!

The chicken OMG, absolute heaven!!! The brisket was good too but the melt in your mouth, second punch of flavor fried chicken cannot be beat. Great service and drinks too!

Don't eat the collard greens. Group of us in for state convention. Place was hoping service was good. Food was vinegar based. Not worth it. We all had something different. Dude with the ribs gave the place a decent review. We all had to go drink some soda to get the taste out of our mouths. Not my jam. Should have gotten the salad bowl thing or the wings.

If I had to describe my experience here in one word, it would be sneaky. Before going, I checked the restaurant’s website and saw they offered Sunday happy hour, but when we arrived there was no mention of it on the menu and our server didn’t bring it up. Only after I asked did he reluctantly confirm it—and then took nearly the entire remaining 30 minutes of happy hour to return and take our food order. There were five of us, and while we enjoyed each other’s company, the meal dragged on for almost three hours. My fried chicken was decent, though boneless and less juicy than I prefer. The bread pudding was extremely dry—more like a biscuit with whipped cream—and we didn’t finish it. The biggest issue came with the bill. I was charged for a side salad that I hadn’t been told would cost extra, and the server seemed surprised when I asked for it to be removed. They also added a 20% automatic gratuity despite our group being five people, even though their website states it applies to parties of six or more. Most of us tipped again without realizing until one person caught it. Overall, the food was fine, but the lack of transparency left a bad taste in my mouth. I wouldn’t return.

Such amazing brunch. Service was as incredible as the food! Don't miss out on the brisket Benedict or mimosa carafe!

I visited Saint Lawrence Gridiron on 03/24/2023 and it was a delightful culinary experience! This place definitely gets a solid 5 stars from me. One of the standout items on their menu is the Dirty Bird sandwich ($16.00), and damn, it's a winner. The combination of tender Fried Chicken, tantalizing Louisiana spices, and just the right amount of chili oil creates an explosion of flavors in every bite. The sandwich is elevated further with the white BBQ sauce, perfectly balanced house slaw, and the tangy house pickles. It's a harmonious symphony of textures and tastes that will leave your taste buds dancing with joy! Another must-try item is the Sixth Man Burger ($17.00). The bacon jam adds a smoky sweetness that perfectly complements the grilled onions, while the special sauce adds a unique, zesty kick. The cheddar cheese melts beautifully over the juicy patty, and the jalapeños provide just the right amount of heat. Each bite of the Sixth Man Burger is a mouthwatering experience you won't soon forget. Apart from the exceptional food, the atmosphere at Saint Lawrence Gridiron is warm and inviting, with friendly staff who are knowledgeable about the menu and happy to offer recommendations. The overall dining experience at Saint Lawrence Gridiron is undoubtedly worth a visit. If you're craving innovative and mouthwatering dishes, make sure to give this place a try!
