"Opened in 1931 by the Quan family, Yuen Hop remains one of the oldest establishments in Oakland Chinatown still standing. Their signature items range from both egg and rice noodles to dumpling skins - all made fresh with a perfectly springy chew. You can also pick up a range of greens, vegetables, fruits, sauces, and other pantry items." - daphne wu

Oakland Chinatown Food Businesses Stand in Solidarity With Black Lives Matter Protesters | Eater SF

"I spoke with Anthony Quan, who runs Yuen Hop Co., a 90-year-old Chinatown institution known for its fresh noodles; Quan says he 'respects' the protests and would have attended the cleanup in support of Tommy Wong, and he thinks the solidarity-building work by Good Good Eatz is positive because minority communities should stand together and support other minorities." - Luke Tsai

Where to Stock Up on Frozen Dumplings in the Bay Area | Eater SF

"This isn’t a restaurant, but it’s the premier destination in Oakland’s Chinatown if you’re on the hunt for fresh noodles or dumpling or wonton skins for your own home cooking. It isn’t currently selling frozen boiled dumplings, but it does have frozen pork and chicken potstickers available — $19.99 for a bag of about 38." - Luke Tsai

How Family-Run Noodle Business Yuen Hop Co. Has Endured for Nine Decades in Oakland’s Chinatown | Eater SF

Stepping inside under the sun-faded kelly green awnings, I found a bustling, multigenerational family market in Oakland’s Chinatown where kids scurry between shelves and neighbors call each other by name; over nine decades the Quan family has built Yuen Hop Co. from Quong Pon’s 1931 stand selling homegrown bean sprouts and fresh tofu into a full-scale Asian grocery, produce market, and noodle distributor. The shop still carries Asian produce like bitter melon and fresh lotus root alongside rice and egg noodles, wonton wrappers, and dumpling skins, but noodles became the main business after the family added a second space to accommodate production. Today they sell about 20 different types of noodles, eight of which are made in the family’s factory down the street, and they supply local chefs, retailers such as Berkeley Bowl, and home cooks across the Bay Area with chewy egg noodles made fresh daily. The proprietary egg noodles are made only with “real eggs,” flour, salt, and water — Cribbin says they don’t skimp on ingredients — and they lend themselves to favorites like garlic noodles, an enduring example of Asian fusion reportedly originating in the 1970s with Helene An; the family’s version balances fish sauce, oyster sauce, and Parmesan for an umami punch. I learned about the family’s deep history — Quong Pon immigrated from Guangzhou and started the business, David Quan engineered irrigation and noodle machinery, Sabrina Cribbin now co-manages the market and factory alongside her mother Sylvia Quan — and how that commitment to hard work and community earned Yuen Hop a 2017 Oakland legacy business distinction. Despite pandemic pressures and uncertainty about the future, the shop remains a gathering place—full of memories, family rituals (noodles at a red egg and ginger party for a new granddaughter, for example), and a dedication to quality that the Quans hope younger generations will carry on. - Laura Smith Borrman

Google
Great place for all kinds of Chinese and other Asian food products (black bean sauce, sriracha, tofu, etc) as well as fresh produce. Nice selection and helpful staff! Only wish they were open longer hours! :-(

Google
Giving this a good rating simply because their fresh noodles are really good. We got a packet of Hong Kong noodles which ended up tasting so springy and “Q”. They maintained a great taste and texture even 6 days later. It’s hard to find good Chinese noodles so I was impressed!

Best fresh noodles -- of all types -- in the East Bay. We typically buy the size for garlic noodles. They cook in boiling water in 2-3 minutes and have an excellent "chew" when eaten. Fabulous the next day as leftovers. Also a pretty decent little Asian market, too. I typically pick up some king oyster mushrooms every time I go there.

Yuen Hop has been around for a while. They have produce and various Chinese/Asian candies and dried goods. They have frozen dumplings and pot stickers. What they're most known for is their fresh noodles which you cook up yourself at home. Keep in mind that fresh noodles can go bad relatively quickly compared to dried noodles and some of them cook quicker than others.

I was running around this area @ 4:30 pm on a Saturday, trying to find hong bao (Chinese red envelopes) for a wedding that evening. Most of the other stores I’d scouted on Yelp were closed already, but luckily I came across this gem. The main storefront looked closed, but there was still a small section on the right that was open. And out in the front were a bunch of red envelopes on display. I asked the gentleman and lady if they had any recommendation for wedding red envelopes, and if they particularly had any with the double happiness symbol (囍). The lady kindly pulled out a basket that had a bunch of them, and I was able to get just what I needed for the wedding. Many thanks to them for helping me out!

Google
One of the best small markets in Chinatown. They have been in business for approximately a century. Fresh noodles daily. Tofu, bags of rice, snacks. Tasty Canadian Chinese sausage. Frozen wontons & potstickers. Fruits, vegetables, & so many cooking staples. Friendly & quick cashiers.

Google
i find this place distinct from other local grocers for their fresh and dry noodles, tofu/bean curd/bean sprouts/fresh shiitake, and locally-made frozen dumplings in the freezer section. reasonable prices and helpful staff.
