"The building that once housed legendary Northwest Side Italian restaurant Sabatino’s, along with its entire block between North Kenneth and North Kilbourn in Old Irving Park, is slated for demolition, according to Block Club Chicago. The restaurant at 4441 W. Irving Park Road closed in late 2018 after 41 years. Northwestern Medicine purchased the site from Chicago-based GW Properties, and neighborhood officials plan to soon hold community meetings where neighbors can offer feedback solely on project plans, but the sale itself is a done deal." - Ashok Selvam

"Eaters hoping to eat at Sabatino’s before the Northwest Side Italian icon closes for good on December 23 need to plan far ahead. The restaurant has consistently been booked weeks in advance since ownership announced its shutter, as this month is already sold out. Look for October reservations to be made available by phone on September 19." - Daniel Gerzina

Sabatino's is a mainstay. I have been going here for almost 35 years since I was a kid. Sabatino's is our family's first choice in going out. My grandparents went there. My parents, my aunt's and uncle's, my 16 cousins, etc. I have brought people here for years when they want a piece of Chicago to take home. Everyone always says it is one of the best meals they've had. I have literally been here over 100 times and never can wait to go back after I leave. Now, for what to eat? Well it is all good. The Chilean Sea Bass is amazing and melts in your mouth. All the traditional Italian dishes are awesome. In particular, I love the Veal Parmigian and Veal Marsala. The shrimp de jeong can be had as an appetizer and if you love garlic and shrimp, go for it. But honestly, everything is amazing. The one thing you HAVE to do is get the Bananas Foster tableside. It is one of the best non-chocolate desserts I've had anywhere. One thing though is to be prepared for a marathon, not a sprint. They do NOT rush. It is old school family Italian. You will be there for a couple hours and you will LOVE it.

I have passed by this Italian restaurant when driving on Irving Park Rd and was always wondering how this restaurant was. A person I know from Linkedin in my career connections mention this place as being the greatest if not the best. Well I got my opportunity to dine in here free and to my subtle disappointment on certain dishes. But it was not all bad so it deserves 3 stairs but no more than that. My father had a presentation and they offered a free dinner here. Originally my mother was going to attend but she has no interest in Annuities and saving money despite being retired. Anyways it was set up as a 5 course meal . I had a cup of Minestrone that was as the millennials from the south side say "Meehh" It was quite bland. The next course which was worse was the bread they brought. Terrible. It was hard and not soft. Very messy to cut as you will see in my picture of the table of crumbs. The 3rd course was the bow-tie ravioli which actually was delicious. I did not have time to take the picture. The next was a plate of salad and again was another millennial "Meehh" again. Final the main course came and I ordered a NY strip steak Medium rare. Wow!!! Very delicious. It was not Gibson's steak quality but it was decently and delightfully delicious. They also had season potatoes served with it but it was just OK as you can see from the pictures. All and all I would not come here. You have to make reservations I found out ahead of time and you CANNOT walk in. They open at 3 pm and is set for late lunch dinner setting. Another disappointment. Also the ambiance is out of date. I know this is trying to give it an old world feel but at least keep the tableware and ceilings (as well as the bathrooms clean and up to date). Again this is 3 stars as best as I rate it. I am surprised this has 4 stars. Must be the older baby boomers or traditional generation like my 70 year old parents who (surprisingly if they can use a Iphone or android) probably posted here .

Venerable classic Italian dining.Be transported back to the restorantes of yesterday.old world food preparation.Stick to the pasta, steak chicken or veal dishes.Skip the Fish. Have a glass of Chianti and enjoy. If your feeling Deliquent have flaming cherries jubilee or baked Alaska for dessert. Food quality good.Pricing typical.Presentation uninspiring.Decor Italian Tratoria inspired and vintage at best.Valet parking plentiful. I’ve patronized this place for the last 30 Years and will be back.. AWARDED 2 YUMS ON A SCALE

This was our first time here. We thought everyone was really friendly, the food was delicious.. When we finally got it. It was over an hour before we actually got our food. It was not very busy.

It's a okay place. I'm just not that impressed with the food or the size of the portions. But I think that's a "typical American thing"... too much food.... But being in USA my first time - it was fun to go to a "american - Italian restaurant" like taken out of the Godfather movie :-)

My husband and I used to live across the street from this restaurant and went frequently. I also used to go at least once or twice a year growing up for special occasions with my family. I am so sad that it is closing because I have so many wonderful memories here. I am so glad that I got to bring my baby boy here once before it closed! The food and the atmosphere are incredible and will be missed.
