Sabella & La Torre

Delicious lunch! First time in SF and of course we had to check out Fisherman's Wharf. Just stumbled across Sabella and there were plenty of people sat outside on a Monday afternoon so we took it as a good sign. They did not disappoint! Our server was incredible and so speedy with all our requests. To start we ordered the Calamari and it came out piping hot. It was noticeably fresh and the flavor was really nice. For mains I got the Clam Chowder in the bread bowl and thoroughly enjoyed it. It was warm and flavorful, it felt like a nice hug. :) My partner ordered the crab sandwich. It came with fries which were crispy and fresh. The crab itself was lacking a bit of flavor though. Overall we had a great time and would return!

I use to work around the area and I started taking my girlfriend here and we always order the calamari and lobster rolls. The ambiance here is a like walking into a cruise ship but I always keep coming here because of the customer service and how friendly the staff is. The food here is amazing as well very good food and it's not also seafood and they also have daily deals which will be on the board. They also make really good drinks where the bar is and the drinks are delicious.

I've come here on my last two SF visits. We usually sit outside and get the dungeness crab, which was $30/lb last summer. The crab is precooked, but they rewarm it in whatever sauce you choose (none, garlic butter, spicy garlic butter). I've had it with no sauce, which was great. Spicy garlic butter was also nice (but is a lot of butter). It's nice that they break up the crab to make it easier to eat. Overall it's very tasty and a reasonable price. I'd definitely come again! Eating dungeness crab on the Wharf is always a good time.

We stopped by for dinner recently and found the clam chowder to be decent. However, the cleanliness of the small bathroom left much to be desired--it was quite dirty. The servers could have been more friendly and attentive, which would have improved our overall experience. Hoping for better next time!

This spot is always a must-visit when it comes to visiting San Francisco for me! I always order their crab sandwich and it always hits the spot. They give you SO much crab and I love the crunchiness of the bread. It is a bit pricey, but being San Francisco and the amount of crab salad they give you, I would say it's worth it. The people there are always very nice as well and they serve you very quickly. Highly recommend!!

Sabella & La Torre has its charms: a vibrant atmosphere, friendly service, and generous portions. However, the lackluster clam chowder, especially considering the price, brings down the overall experience. While the portion of clam chowder, which was served in a bread bowl, was generous, the taste was, unfortunately, underwhelming. The broth lacked the creamy richness and depth of flavor I expect in a San Francisco classic. The clams, while plentiful, were slightly overcooked and lacked tenderness. So if you're looking for breathtaking views and a casual Fisherman's Wharf experience, it might be worth a visit. But if your heart (and stomach) are set on an exceptional clam chowder, you might want to cast your net elsewhere.

I've been coming here since I was a kid. Good ole fashioned tourist trap with pricey but delicious cold seafood. They also have a restaurant where you can sit. Apparently this used to be a fish market like 50 years ago. Since then, it's done a good job serving tourists a taste of seafood. Came for the nostalgia, did not disappoint. Service was good. A Chinese gentleman served me 5 min before they closed and he was very friendly.

We went here on a Friday afternoon and it wasn't that pack. We were served water as soon as we were seated. Employees were pleasant and very attentive. We got the Oyster Rockefeller, Calamari and my bestfriend and I both got Clam Chowder bowl. Everything was freshly made! Oyster Rockefeller - 1000/10 loved the combination of the toppings! Lemon, cheese, and spinach. Everything just explodes in your mouth. Calamari - 10/10 my all time favorite seafood! Very soft and tender and cooked perfectly! Clam Chowder bowl - 10/10 So glad I did not go to Boudin and came out of my comfort zone and tried another clam chowder! Overall, my best friend and I were satisfied! Everything was great and would def come back and try other stuff.

On a rainy Friday night, we came into town pretty late for the weekend. Weve known from previous trips to the bay and fisherman swarf you can buy some really good(somewhat pricey) seafood to enjoy in this area. The time was around 830-9pm and many of the shoreline business were already closed. Except fo this restaurant! They had a convincing guy out front with a menu to further help us choose what we wanted to eat. We decided on the clam chowder and seafood platter. Both these items were really good and of good portion for the price. I would also add that our orders were taken quickly, and the food came out fast. We sat at booth. Overall, we were happy to find a spot still open late on a Friday that gave us the experience of fisherman swarf despite some rain.

When the birthday boy asks, he shall receive! One of my companion's favorite food is crab and since I've known him he's enjoyed crab sandwiches from Sabella & La Torre. This place in particular never appealed to me--as it's crowded with tourists and flocking seagulls. But, putting my thoughts aside I was looking forward to trying what they offered versus passing by. This review is strictly for take-out. I recently found out they have a dine-in area with wait staff which is a nice gain. The walk-up area is more of a food stall. You're able to view their seafood on display, order off their menu, pay and receive your item, and take it somewhere to go. There are a few tables out front or areas along the waterfront to eat at where service is no frills--not friendly, just curt, and quick; typical of touristy areas in San Francisco. Since we were celebrating with a picnic lunch initially I didn't know what to get--sandwiches, salads, and entrees all revolving around seafood are found here. The companion loves his crab sandwich so he got one and I had several bites. The sandwich was sweet and mild. The Shrimp Sandwich appealed to me as I love bay shrimp. Loaded inside of a crunchy sourdough roll was lightly seasoned, firm, and not too sweet or salty shrimp. Both sandwiches came fully loaded with seafood, making the price more than reasonable. If you're along Fisherman's Wharf, this is just one of the many options to get a quick bite at. I will say that the quality and taste are more than generous for the price. It's catered more towards a tourist environment but still decent for locals. Other stalls surround the walk-up shop but it's easy to find with the bold and blue awning off of Taylor Street. Parking is street or in nearby structures, but it's also easily accessible by public transportation. The fact my companion was happily satisfied eating here was all that mattered to me!

This is an American wharf style seafood restaurant..it's next to crab station..same style..I got a shrimp roll with French bread ..french bread is tough but oh well. They always have some already ready so it's almost stale but oh well I love these wharf seafood spots..old time ..sometimes pricey just depends At the fisherman's wharf grotto

Definitely not on my list of go to places. Left my stomach in a distress. 911 anyone got some Tums??

I've never had the unique opportunity to smell ammonia on a lobster dinner, and I hope I never do again! To be fair, the lobster came from Australia, not local, but my wife ordered 2 and one was not OK... I ordered the clams and linguini which I enjoyed so the stars stayed up in the middle. My friend Shannon also had a pasta dish that she enjoyed. Her husband had a steak that was very underwhelming. I warned him this was probably not the right place to get a steak (and we just had an amazing dinner the night before). It was way overcooked. I guess the moral of this story is if you go to SF and you actually eat at fisherman's wharf, stick to local ingredients and you might luck out. Otherwise I would steer you deeper into the city for an epic meal.

Best Clam Chowder!!! Love the flavor! It is the Best in the Bay Area! Yes, I have tried a lot!! Good service, and I love the bar!

One of the restaurants server recommended this place on Wharf cause they were closed due to a private event. We were so glad that we asked! Ordered Spicy Garlic Dungenious Crab and clam linguine pasta! Crab was actually spicy and so flavorful, one of the best! It already came almost ready to eat, chef cracked the shell so we can eat easy. Pasta was very good but got cold quickly since it was cold outside. Best part was the price! $32 for Dungenious Crab. Some places were above $80 which is crazy to us.

This review is strictly for their to go seafood options. Like the ones tourists and I buy. I've been coming here for as long as I can remember for their small shrimp cocktail and their large prawn cocktail. Their shrimp is always sweet and they have a bad ass cocktail sauce that they should bottle and sell it. Maybe they already do. It's quality and a great place to grab a small snack. Their crab melt isn't that great though. Found it kind of fishy. Like the crab want fresh and the mayonnaise was warm. I would skip the crab melt and just stick to their shrimp cocktails.

Wandering around Fisherman's Warf and settled on this place. The clam chowder was very good, fresh and hot. The sourdough bread bowl was ok...thought it would be warm but it was cold. Now, the crab cake was extremely good! Little expensive, but very good. They cooked it fresh, so nice and crispy with good flavor. The servers were very friendly, not just to me but to all their customers. Nice to see that. Make sure you stop in!

Support local businesses and communities, especially these small businesses that are struggling and need to survive during these challenging times. Good food and great people! Fresh as can be and not over priced. A San Francisco destination for seafood with a classic Italian flare. Scallops and Oysters, great bread and butter too!

A nice place for a quick bite of seafood! The clam chowder was fresh and hot. Good mild clam taste in a well-prepared soup base. Quality clams and a fresh sourdough bread bowl. Clam strips were good as were the shoestring fries. Ketchup and tartar sauce and hot sauce were abundantly provided. The service was fast and very courteous. I appreciated that they had several tables withe chairs set aside by the sidewalk for their customers.

Everything I expect with a counter serve takeout clam chowder. Perfect location on the wharf. We grabbed some takeout chow and calamari then walked over to have a cute lunch date with the sea lions Can't go wrong for a sunday date

Sabella & La Torre is amazing! I parked at fisherman's warf (2 hour validation from this restaurant). I was left speechless after eating the Spaghetti and meatballs. I would highly recommend this from there.. Also the salads here are amazing and pair nicely with the red wine. This place is really a gem at fisherman's warf and Don and his crew are amazing, nice, and respectful. The bar has a real traditional feeling with a traditional design and granite feels very comfortable and the environment is nice and cool sitting inside.

First time back here in 11 years. Ate in the restaurant part of the establishment. My Heiken was cold and my oysters were fresh. Service was okay.

Love it. The atmosphere is cozy, but it has a CHEERS (the tv show) feel to it. Lots of locals come here because they have been in business for 96 years!!!! Don the bartender is awesome!!! He needs a vacation too, lol. Loved spending my short stay in San Fran there with them. Food: I had the Chowder without the bread (I regretted later) and the Dungeness Crab sandwich. Both were delicious. I even ordered another clam chowder to bring back home to NY. Thank you for making my time in your restaurant special. Til next time! Merci

We were looking for a place to grab a bite later than most places are open and found tucked away this cute bar/restaurant. We sat at the bar and the were greeted by a very nice bartender. I do not recall his name but he was working on Monday night February 27th. We each got a beer and chatted with some people who drove in to experience a sound bath at a local church. Interesting conversation. The bartender was rolling with it and chimed in every once in a while. Fun little place. We enjoyed the Cajun scallops with rice and they were cooked very well. Loved the seasoning on them. Great place to grab a bite and drink while at the pier.

They have someone outside to catch your attention. They have prices listed outside for the food. The prices were decent so we went inside to eat. It was pretty windy that day and we needed a break from the wind. The waitress was originally friendly and asked if we wanted drinks .. after she brought the drinks a I asked why the menu was different and the prices were higher. She said it was a different menu for outside. I told my husband let's just go somewhere else, that's bad business. The waitress then snatched the menus off of the table and walked off. So, yea be careful if you choose to eat inside. For me that was just bad business and bad customer service.

Lovely local dine-in spot to eat with your family. My partner and I got the clam chowder and fish & chips. They were both pretty good, but nothing too spectacular of to note. The food also came fairly quickly. The bathrooms i do have to note are more smaller and narrow. Servers were friendly.

The combination cocktail is fabulous. The cocktail sauce is the best I've ever had. Great bread. Good clam chowder. Cesar salad was not good, about the same as bag salad from the grocery store so I'd recommend skipping that.

Grabbed food here while walking around Fisherman's Wharf/Pier 39. The menu is pretty small and we ordered a Dungeness crab panini and a calamari. The food took longer than expected to come and the service was okay. They gave us sourdough bread and it was really good and warm. The calamari was crispy and so good with some lemon and tar tar sauce. The crab panini was very light and crispy and the crab tasted pretty fresh. The fries were really crispy as well. We did think that putting the lettuce, tomatoes and pickle outside of the sandwich was a bit odd.

Upgrade time!! After eight years of visiting Sabella & LaTorre, I think it is time to give them an updated review. The Place: Located on Fisherman's Wharf, Sabella & Latorre offers an outdoor market stand or indoor dining experience. We usually visit the restaurant. The restaurant is so cute; I love it! it is a small place and there are tables, booths and bar seating. The style in the restaurant is classic and Italian. The building is older so you can feel uneven floors but that's all part of the experience! Sabella & Latorre have been at the same location since 1927! The Food: The first thing I do when I am in San Francisco is to visit Sabella & LaTorre. They are part of my SF experience. My favorite items on the menu: 1) Dungeness Crab Cocktail - This is my favorite thing on the menu! It's so good! I don't know if it is the delicious crab OR the homemade cocktail sauce with horseradish but the flavor here is PERFECTION! 2) Oysters - always delish and fresh! 3) Shrimp cocktail - Giant shrimp with delicious homemade cocktail sauce. 4) Clam chowder- the creamiest and more flavorful ever! For dinners my favorite have been: Whole Dungeness Crab (chill or cooked) , the Lobster tails- generous servings, and the Seafood pasta - They know how to make their pasta! In my last visit, I discover how god their Margaritas are! They used fresh squeezed lime juice and tasted wonderful! Don prepared it for us. The Service: I have been visiting for eight years and always have excellent service at Sabella & Latorre. During our last visits, we sat at the bar with Don. He is wonderful! We love to talk to him and learn about the history about the restaurant. When they get busy, he still checks on us and make sure we are doing good. Recently, I discovered that Don makes AMAZING MARGARITAS! So good! Highly recommend this place if you want to have an authentic seafood experience in San Francisco.

Sabella & La Torre is located at Fisherman's Wharf and is next door to a outdoor parking lot. They do validate but require $15 minimum order (you get 1 hour validation if you dine/ purchase food outside and 2 hours if you dine inside). My husband, our little girl dog and I were walking on this part of Fisherman's Wharf and came across Sabella & La Torre. The employee outside, behind the counter said hello to us and our little girl dog. We decided to stop by here on a Wednesday afternoon around 2:45 pm. We ended up ordering: Clam Chowder Bread Bowl, $11 prior to tax- After ordering this, it was ready w/in a few seconds. The employee helping us (he was the only one outside) filled the sourdough bread with a nice cup of soup. Since we were with our little girl dog, we decided to dine outside (there were a few tables with chairs set up). I thought the clam chowder was good, although to be honest, I have had better. I found the clam chowder to be a little bit saltier than other ones that I have had but I still liked it and it was nice on the cold afternoon that we visited. I liked the chew of the bread and ended up taking the part of the bread bowl that I didn't finish back to our AirBnB to finish off later that evening (I love bread). --------------------- (Total= $11.95 after tax) Service was friendly and I liked that we were able to get our clam chowder in a bread bowl very quickly. It was nice to dine with our little girl dog (although a little breezy and cold but that is expected with a visit to Fisherman's Wharf). Overall, had a good experience and would consider coming back.

1 star for quick wait time to be seated inside & 1 star for free validated parking. This review is based on my experience dining in. I've had plenty of great experiences getting clam chowder outside, so my fiancé and I finally felt intrigued to sit down! The best thing we ordered was the deep fried calamari. They ran out of bread bowls, so we ate clam chowder with the table bread. The clam chowder was watery and did not taste like clam at all. It was soooo bland. We also ordered a crab sandwich and that was so tasteless as well. Overall, the food was not tasty and we left feeling unsatisfied. Service was OK.

Right on the fisherman's wharf in San Francisco. Very casual. Marty had half a lobster and was in heaven. not fancy but decent. Service was okay.

First stop in my chowder quest and I'm not impressed.. Tastes very processed, not distinctive at all. Three stars for ambiance. No stars for taste or distinction. This reviewer will keep moving down the line.

A wharf of wonder is what you will be looking for. Instead, you will find a sad, expressionless, completely uncharacteristic well to throw your money into. During tourist season, I am sure that the door is blown off its hinges by its opportune location. In the off season, you will be beckoned and heckled into submission to enter and dine on uninspired sustenance. As a reprieve from the weather, this establishment did its job. As employees, they did their job too, serving food and drink in between caterwauling outside to anyone passing by to get them through the door as well. As a meal, I wish I had just gone hungry.

Poor sanitation, poor customer service and poor food handling. Ambiance seems to be okay a lot of people were there but the customers do not know is how they handle food. What would you think about using the SAME GLOVES as they hand picked your food for plating while touching doors and handles, grabbing money from all types of people, taking cards for your purchases, scratching their heads and ears then digging to make a hole in the bread bowl for clam chowder ALL OF THESE ACTIONS USING THE SAME GLOVES? Ain't it disgusting? I don't know about you guys but I work in a hospital and we take care of these basic things appropriately. Thanks to this place, I've realized that it doesnt matter where you pay your meal, you can always go to a better place. Pay for the Ambiance seems to be the best quality it seems to be better. The guy in the black in the photo definitely was super rude when we mentioned about him not changing gloves while preparing for our food and looked at us with disgusting look and continues to charge us. Didn't even offered to make it again, but this time to CHANGE HIS GLOVES while preparing our food. He touched people's money, shook hands with random people from the streets and touched food and dirty dishes. It really shows in his attitude that he doesn't care at all. If you've been here and you got Covid I suggest to file a complaint at a health department. I already did Very grimy restaurant!

One of the top 10 worst meals I've had in my life. An embarrassment of food. I feel bad for the fish that die to be prepared here. Save your money and go to McDonalds or KFC. Huge upgrade to this place. The fries are like sticks, the drinks were warm, the fish is inedible and the shrimp tastes like it's been frozen since the Carter administration. So gross. The sea gulls and pigeons won't even eat it.

Can't visit the Bay without having a go at some seafood. I tried this spot out and wasn't impressed. The crab lump with shrimp had a weird taste, so I stopped eating it to prevent getting seafood poisoning. The calamari wasn't fried well and the shrimp was ok. I should've gotten what I initially said I was going to get, which was the clam chowder bowl.

My favorite spot in SF for fresh af crab sandwiches and clam chowder. The crab is lightly seasoned and not too salty, which highlights the crab meat in every bite. Bread is kinda thick, but allowed us to use the excess for scooping up the clam chowder (if you didn't get the bread bowl). Limited outdoor seating, but soaked in the fisherman's wharf vibe. Just beware of pigeons trying to fight over fallen morsels of food, lol.

Many restaurants were closing! We found this restaurant, the further (closer) we get to our cable car station and found the still open for business, but, as we we were almost done with dinner, they were putting their chairs ready to lock the place up. I thought we'd have a good view of the bay, by eating inside, the the price is different so we decided to eat outside, where all the action is. Pigeons feeding on bread crumbs, people watching, live music, etc. We ordered crab cocktail, fish & chips for 2. I can't believe the crab cocktail (size of a little cup shredded crab) cost $12.50!!!! Once in awhile, I would bite a fried fish and some 'water' drips on my shirt (jacket). I know it's not oil, I wiped it right off and dried it with their napkin, and it faded away, so I knew it's water from the fish. It didn't stained my jacket, or made a permanent mark! WHY? They're fried! Where did it come from The fries were soggy! The napkins very very thin.

I like crab but I'm inexperienced. I walked by looking and a guy asked if I wanted to sit. I explained that I wanted to try crab and if it was as fresh. He said season is as 7 days old and crab was fresh. Proceeded to have me follow him where the crab was. He broke off a piece and asked me to try it. Of course I loved it. Gave me choices on how to prepare and I selected garlic and butter. Then he sheepish asked if $21 was ok. I got a beer and it was $30 plus a generous tip. It wasn't s so good. I'm coming back tomorrow for the chowder.

My favorite thing to do in San Francisco's fisherman's ward is to eat at the row of outdoor food stands. I remember the days when all stands were busy and they all would compete to get you to buy from them. They would jokingly bad mouth each other. This time there were only 2 stalls open. I got the calamari from this place because it looked better than the other one. Since I got something here I was able to sit at their table even though my sandwich was from next door. I was not wrong, the calamari was good. I didn't like the tarter sauce as it was too sweet.

I love this spot! It's always between this stand and the one next door, Nicks Lighthouse. I was sad to see that Nicks is closed, but SO happy this one is still standing. I got a bread bowl and calamari and chips, both were delicious as always. I also tried the Bloody Mary and I gotta say it's totally a must! I usually wouldn't have gotten a drink, but since I didn't drive this time I decided to go for it. Extra star for this spot because the chowder is so good even a 3 year old ate almost half a bowl, I totally wasn't expecting she'd like it so much, but when it's good, even a toddler can't resist!

I was in the area and decided to get crab. This is fresh crab . I like that you pick the crab they ask if you want it cracked. They give you butter and lemon. I asked for extra lemon. The price was reasonable for the area. You can either go into the restaurant or take it to go. My crab was absolutely delicious. Highly recommend if you love crab.

We were just walking by trying to figure out where to eat for lunch when a friendly seating host called out. He was so charming that we just decided on a whim to eat here. It's a small little "hole-in-wall" place that is just adorable. It first opened in 1927 and had all their old menus displayed. Their food was fresh and just delicious. The service was quick and friendly, also gave great recommendations. It is quite simply a lovely and adorable mom and pop place. Wonderful place to get great seafood without the chaos of a chain restaurant.

Drove home from Sonoma to LA, wanted to stop at one of our old favorites - Alioto's - only to find it was closed. HOWEVER - we found a new favorite in Sabella & La Torre...Had a couple drinks and the best lunch: bay shrimp cocktail, crab panini and GARLIC FRIES!!! for a fantastic price and had a great time getting to know Don. Hope to be back in the City soon, and this will definitely be where we eat

Stumbled in, had a drink and food with my daughter. I immediately realized I was in a Gem of an establishment. The feel of the bar stools, the pungent aroma of seafood in the air, this feel like I stepped off a boat of yesteryear and into a real time capsule. Service was spot on. Bartender, cool as a cucumber getting it done. An hr lunch and it's tattooed into my memory. My daughter and I had a good time. Don took great care of us. What a legend. Yes its in a highly touristy area but this place rings true, not corny with good food, fair prices (for the area) and a legit ambiance of history. When coming to SF I'm rarely at the Wharf but I'll make a special trip next time.

Stopped by for a quick lunch and sat inside. We both had fish and chips. We both said it was the best we had in as long as we can remember. We were told that the fish is cut to each order. It tasted like that could be true. Good service and not too many tourists for a Tuesday.

Closest place to authentic Boston food. Amazing. Erwin and Donnie at the bar were the best. Lobster rolls, halibut and mussels. The end!

We have been coming to Sabella & La Torre for years and we have never had a bad experience. We payed a visit this Past Saturday since we were in the area after watching The Blue Angels fly over SF. We dinned inside of the restaurant instead of just grabbing food from the vendor cart. We walked up after calling to see if there was a wait time which there was not, we were a party of three and got sat immediately even tho the Restaurant was a bit busy. It was a busy weekend and the bar was packed with people in the area for the Blue angles and people grabbing some drinks before the Giants game. The Restaurant was pretty loud this visit around because of all the commotion at the bar. it was a bit annoying, because clearly there were some drunk adults who didn't need to have any more alcohol. Other than all the ruckus at the bar it was still an overall a good experience. The waiters brought us water and bread & butter as soon as we sat down along with our menus. We Ordered Calamari appetizer Clam chowder in Bread bowl Linguine Alfredo pasta with chicken Linguine Alfredo pasta with chicken & Shrimp x2 The calamari is always our favorite, they are always fresh and not chewy. The Tartar sauce is always good. The Clam chowder is by far the best I've had in the city so we will continue to come here even after so many years. The pasta is always delicious tho, I get chicken and shrimp in the Alfredo and it has never disappointed! The Restaurant is a bit small so if your looking for a place for a large party this isn't the best place for you to dine. It an oplder shop that does need a bit of a facelift but if that's not really something your concerned about and want some good food then come here. We will continue to stop by if in the area and want either fish and chips or clam chowder.

Six pieces of shrimp are 26$ and the menu does not state how many pieces ! Then when you say no thank you they force you to pay for it stating they cannot take it back ! Very rude environment from the employees. I had food from outside and I was told I couldn't have it here I was sitting ! So what was I supposed to do with it I thought I purchased it from the same restraint name outside but went to sit inside where it was warm and ordered more food with our party :::: very uncomfortable Saturday night ! Do not reccomend ... oh yeah we didn't even get tarter sauce for 26$
