"A croque madame is always a good idea, and thankfully Saison serves theirs all day. The cheese on top of the sandwich is beautifully browned, the bread still has plenty of bite without being too crunchy, and the egg is perfectly runny. If you’re searching for something less breakfast-adjacent, their french dip sandwich with prime rib, melted gruyere, and horseradish cream is exactly the type of thing you order to share, but then selfishly hoard the whole thing for yourself." - Anne Cruz

Overpriced and poor service. My mimosa was not cold. Beers are $15. Food is mediocre. We waited a long time just to get water. Our server was kind and that’s why we gave an extra star. But service was slow and tables were not cleaned. Another staff member was extremely rude and dismissive. I’d rather just pay to go to a lounge next time even if it is just for an hour.

Flight was delayed 8 hours so I thought I would splurge on a nice dinner. The French onion soup was spot on (highly recommend!) but the sea bass was so so (tasted more like trout and not sea bass). Service was friendly, not great and not at the level I would have expected for a high end (based on the prices) restaurant, even if it was at the airport.

⸻ Saison – Abuse, Antisemitism, and a Cash Scam at a New York Airport We had a humiliating and infuriating experience at Saison, located inside a New York airport. Tired and hungry before our flight, we ordered a simple meal: • Chicken Paillard Salad – $26.99 • Avocado Toast – $22.99 • Coke and Diet Coke – approx. $11.00 The total, according to the printed menu, should’ve been around $66 with tax. Even with a generous tip, there’s no way it should exceed $80. But the waiter: • First claimed the total was $65 • Then insisted on cash only, refusing card payment — with no signage or explanation • Took our $100 bill, disappeared, and returned saying the new total was suddenly $84 • Refused to provide any breakdown or receipt when we asked why the amount changed • Became rude and hostile The most disturbing part? His entire demeanor changed the moment he realized we were Jewish. What started as cold service quickly turned into open aggression and discrimination. This wasn’t just a billing issue — it was a blatant case of antisemitic behavior wrapped in a cash scam. We refused to pay and walked out without eating. This is how discrimination looks in a modern airport restaurant. To anyone passing through a New York airport: avoid Saison. If you’re Jewish — especially. If you value honesty and dignity — stay far away.

Excellent food and atmosphere. Stopped in for some breakfast before my flight. The restaurant has a wonderful French cafe feel to it with lovely decor and comfortable seating and tables as well as a nice large bar with seating. Tried their eggs any way plate with a choice of meat and it comes with potatoes and toast and it was delicious. Eggs were cooked perfectly , light and fluffy and delicious with wonderful potatoes and Canadian bacon and toast and portions were large and filling. You get your money's worth. We also ordered their bagel and lox with a side of scrambled eggs and it came with a side salad. Bagel and lox with cream cheese was excellent and the eggs were perfect with a nice salad. Coffee was very good and not weak and it was wonderful. Service was fast and friendly. I Love the background music that fit the restaurant theme so well and made the experience very nice. Very pleased with everything. Loved it.

Google
When I was checking in at Newark, the CLEAR rep told me to eat breakfast at Saison because it is “boogie” and has nice outside seating. She was right. Saison is a relaxing place to wait for your flight if you don’t have club access at Newark. The omelette was quite tasty.

Google
Slow service. Very overpriced even for an airport. Got croque monsier and its barely half a sandwich for $25!

Google
I wish I got the chance to try the food but I was quite distraught by the service, I ultimately left before even given water. I sat down, two bartenders can clearly see me, never said hi, or be with you soon, so I wait. I am a bartender at home, I understand a rush...the bar had 2 other people there not including me. I waited about 10 minutes before asking politely for a menu when I was met with hostility and abrasive behavior from one of the bartenders. She snapped back saying to wait and I will be dealt with when she is ready, as if she had a crowd of college kids all asking for natty lites. I understand there are times when it's busy and the environment is fast, this was not that time. I don't believe this bartender is a sole reflection of the business, however, seeing other unhappy social encounters certainly calls for a revisit at the Newark Airport location.

Google
The breakfast was excellent. The service was outstanding; I would like to commend RAMOS RIVERA MAYERLETH for providing the best service I have ever received at an airport. She was very helpful and ensured our food arrived on time before our flight. My sincere thanks to her.

Yelp
This is a great option for airport dining. But listen closely, it is a "scan the menu, order and pay on your phone" place. I get it, especially if you're in a hurry. My husband and I ordered the deviled eggs, half chicken, and burger. Everything was good. Fries weren't great but whatever - the chicken was a lot of food and we enjoyed it and the burger was great for an airport burger. We got beer and wine which are always a safe bet because I read that the mixed drinks came premade. The only annoying thing was how expensive it was - but that's to be expected at an airport and we had a 4 hour layover and couldn't avoid eating. We debated A LOT about where to go, studying all the yelp ratings, and chose this place off the flip of a coin (digital coin flip) and I'm glad we did. Ambience was nice, clean and the French music was a nice break from the busy airport hustle.

Krassi G.

Yelp
Disgusting place. You pay $30 for a greasy burger with questionable quality (certainly not dry aged) , cold buns and overall crappy service.

David S.

Yelp
It's very expensive for what it is, but that's to be expected in an airport restaurant. But the cocktails, despite their $20-ish price tag, are miniature. They are portioned by machine, so they are accurately mixed, just tiny. I had a shaken cocktail that was no more than 3 ounces after shaking. That's half a cocktail! And it just never got delivered, without raising any apparent concern, until I asked about it half an hour later.

Lizzie S.

Yelp
Slow food and service that wasn't friendly, yet many of them spent time socializing and chatting with other guests while they neglected others. My avocado toast wasn't real avocado, but it was guacamole. The audacity for that price point! The creme brulee wasn't bad, however.

Rebecca C.

Yelp
Ambience inside is really nice. Great french lounge jazz music. The food is so so and over priced. Don't forget to put your united mileage account to get 20% off. The onion soup was served lukewarm. The cheese was a bit too thick and needed to be cooked more. Thick stringy cheesy. Spinach was watery with super soft garlic, defeating the purpose of putting it into a skillet. Much more to be desired but nice enough to spend for an hour before boarding given limited choices. I would recommend going for a burger or mussel over what I ordered.

Katie C.

Yelp
I was hoping the reviews were an "airport 2.5" rather than an actual 2.5, but no. The food here was on the awful side of mediocre, unpleasant enough that I would rather not describe it. The drinks were only slightly better--my aperol spritz was remarkably not refreshing. The hostess and server were kind, but the server was not the most attentive--he brought us empty water glasses but no water until we asked. The environment is nice though, with charging stations at each booth, and relatively quiet, so if you need a place to camp for a minute this could be it. However, be prepared to pay for it with an outsized check. I think we spent around $150 on 2 drinks, a French dip sandwich, and a couple of sides. Tips if you decide to eat here anyway: - Order on 1 check using the QR code so your food has a chance of arriving at the same time - Order less than you think you want to eat (like maybe share a few appetizers or one entree) - Ask to sit in the back with a view of the planes; up front, the restaurant seemed pretty crowded, but it was quiet and pleasant in the back - If you want a drink, walk a couple hundred feet to the Proof Whiskey Oasis where you can just order a good whiskey without worrying about getting an unpleasant version of a cocktail It's interesting that this restaurant seems to share a kitchen with Classified, the United Airline's invite-only "speakeasy" (either Classified is not as desirable as advertised or they send the good food back that way instead of to Saison). Avoid unless you are very rich, not picky about food, or need a quiet place to wait in Terminal C.

Huong E.

Yelp
Food was good. Service was lacking. Unfortunately the servers were overworked and unfriendly. Meals run somewhere between 20-60 dollars. Nothing less than 20. You order your meal via a QR code and they deliver your food to your table. My server never checked up on me checked up on me, because I asked 3 different people for mayonnaise and were not able to assist me, because they could not locate my server. Needed my small water refilled. No one could help me with a simple water. My expensive food was good for airport food.

Steve M.

Yelp
I had zero issues with anything during my visit. Food came in less than 10 minutes. The burger was tasty, semi-greasy, and cooked exactly how I ordered it. Beer choices were plentiful and the staff was friendly. No idea why there have been a rash of bad reviews here. Sit down, scan the QR code, order your food, and you're done! Only docked a star because of the prices, but this is airport dining (NJ/ NYC no less!) so expect sticker shock when you're done filling your belly.

Ana S.

Yelp
I ate here while waiting for my flight. Mind you you're at the airport so I don't mind paying $16 for a cup of French onion soup but it better be good. Everything I ordered tasted bland. Thumbs down to their dry aged beef burger. The place was crowded and loud. The service was okay, my food came out quickly.

Ryan H.

Yelp
I see all the bad reviews, but this is an airport people. Hard to get great food and we were more than pleased with our food and service. We used the online menu and handled it all. We had United vouchers for a cancelled flight and were already not in a great space so we probably had chips on our shoulder but even with that the service was great for us. We asked for extra sauce for our french dip. And they eagerly obliged. And the french dip was marvelous. Just saying, in regards to my experience of Airport food and service this was tops.

Mirko P.

Yelp
Probably the only good, not counting the value for money spent, thing was quality of the food. Burger was delicious and Nicosia salad was a very good. Love the craft beer selection. It's pricey, but that's airport location. Service is weird. You have to scan QR code, enter personal data to pay. Doesn't work well, because you have to wait for prolonged period to get a food order. Some previous guests told us to to inquire to the server. Then everything unfolded. The best is to enter the premise not to wait the hostess. Nobody was there to seat you. Some guests left, some seated themselves. Ambiance is standard, but be careful, floor is very slippery, specially towards the back of room

Tim O.

Yelp
Among the best airport dining I've experienced. Fairly large portions and elevated preparations. There is a premium here ($33 half chicken), but I've never had cheap French food, so I'm not sure how so many other reviewers possess such a rich basis of comparison. Plating was a little sloppy but no complaints otherwise. Both entrees arrived in just under 20 minutes at prime dinner hour. Tablet ordering was as easy as could be. Don't be fooled by the fact that airport restaurants receive a very high proportion of negative reviews from crabby travelers.

Peace Y.

Yelp
We have been waiting an hour for a single entree. At an airport, this is unacceptable. You aren't a quaint bistro. Service is as surly as the patrons.

Yo M.

Yelp
Chicken sandwich and fries were actually really good! I split it and for $24 in the airport that wasn't too bad. Service was quick and actually looks like a nice restaurant! Very nice place.

Lucia L.

Yelp
It's rare to find French restaurants from where I'm from, so I was super pleasantly surprised to find a super cute French cafe right by my gate playing French music and serving authentic French dishes. Here's what I tried: Salmon: this was oh so perfectly pan-fried, and the meat was tender while having the most crispy and thinly fried skin on top. However, for some reason, this dish was also paired with a bed of BBQ beans, which added a strange American touch to an otherwise perfect dish. Croque madame: I've always been a fan of this unique French breakfast item, and I was so excited to see that this was available during breakfast! The egg was perfectly fried, and I loved how it was paired with a perfectly toasted piece of bread, ham and cheese. Also comes with complimentary salad, as well as fresh fruit for an additional add on. Definitely a super cute place with high quality food that's worth stopping by if you have some time before your flight. The service does take a little bit longer since the restaurant is hugely understaffed, but the staff are always super kind and accommodating, and you can get your food to-go as well!

Jessica W.

Yelp
What: Niçoise salad, Cobb salad, turkey chicken sandwich with fries. I really liked my Niçoise salad. It was very fresh. Hard to get decent, healthy food at an airport and this fit the bill. My husband had the Cobb salad and said the lettuce seemed old. Daughter liked her big sandwich and the fries were crispy and seasoned well. I didn't take a pic because there's already one. Ambiance: in terminal C, this is actually a nice area where you could sit and relax for a while. The decor is French cafe with music playing. Service: ok, absolutely the worst. The hostess with the long magenta braids could not do her job any less. How is she not fired? She literally stood there looking at her phone or her watch. Right in the middle of the entrance - in the way! Was really too much trouble to seat us with a side of attitude. No one offered water. I finally asked for it and we were brought room temperature water, no ice. In a nutshell--food/ambiance good, service bad. But what do you really expect? At an airport, I'm just seeking something healthy and edible! Price: expensive- duh you're in an airport! No ApplePay available. You pay with credit card off the iPad.

Frank P.

Yelp
The service is terrible at this place, the food was not good and the place is so expensive that I would not recommend anyone go there.Walk another 200 feet in the terminal and you'll find much better options

Robert H.

Yelp
I was going to rate this place lower based on the bonkers price point. I know it's the airport and things are more expensive, but this shocked me. I raise my rating based on the burger I had and the drinks. Also, the tablet on the table allows for quick and easy ordering, dining, and paying. If you go, just be prepared to pay.

Jay X.

Yelp
This establishment in Newark Terminal C does not serve people of Asian decent. They will make you wait and wait and while everyone else behind you get their food. 45 min and they tell me they didn't have were still making fries. Furthermore they would not refund us when we said we had to leave for our flight.

Paul B.

Yelp
This place is soooooo awful....you could not even pay me to write a review. The decor is an insult to French culture. The Manager looks like his last job was McDonald's and the food!!!! Pure disgusting poison!!! But hey, they have Chartreuse on the shelf

Elayne W.

Yelp
O stars Dirty napkin with one plastic knife and silver fork. Very expensive for the low quality of food. Chicken and fries fried in old grease, grilled cheese made with fake cheese. $114 - Not the quality you would expect for such an expensive meal. No customer service. We got our food 35 min laterand that was that.

Derron L.

Yelp
The waitstaff was incompetent. Service was horrible. Don't go. Get a bagel instead. You can thank me later.

Tom S.

Yelp
If I could give this place less than zero stars, I would. From the time you walk in, there is no sign that tells you it is self seating. Only when you wait and several people walk past you, do you realize because the staff don't acknowledge you. After we ordered, (on our phones) my meal came out 10 min later, the coffee came 20 min later. My wife's came out 40 mins after multiple requests. When they brought my wife's coffee without milk, she was accuses of ordering without milk. 5 min later the milk comes. We show the waitress the receipt with milk on it and we are told "it's fine, it's ok" like it was still our fault. We pushed the button for help several times, but no one came. We told the woman who brought the coffee about the missing meal, but 20 min later, no meal for my wife. She also never got us water. Got up and found another waiter who helped. The excuse for the late meal was that they had no bacon. They offer sausage etc, then offered to take the bacon off the check. I doubt that will ever happen. (We had a flight to catch) You put the tip on when you pay at the begining, so there is no accountability for the absolute terrible service.

Jeff H.

Yelp
Horrible service. Don't stop here unless you have a couple hours before your flight. It took 35 minutes just to get my beer. About an hour before our food came out. You are stuck because you need to pay and tip before you get served. Nice racket. The group next to me has been here for over an hour before they got there food. And right after we ordered there was food that came out for the table next to use, but they left because they would have missed there flight.

Fern S.

Yelp
Criminally overpriced airport food with mandatory tip and no real service to speak of since you order online. The shrimp cocktail is literally grocery store cooked shrimp (you know, the kind in the plastic container that comes with a side of cocktail sauce) on a pretty plate. The Bloody Mary was the worst I have ever had, and I've had a few. Undrinkable. No one to complain to. Do yourself a favor and buy a pass to the United Lounge for the money.

Joan A.

Yelp
THE BARTENDER IS A RACIST!! He tends to only non-melanin customers, speaks to/acknowledges only Non-melanin customers! And when he actually addresses black people it's snappy and rude as fuck! I waited 15min for my drink as he was standing here staring into space! My food came before my drink and I ordered them both at the same time!! I AM BEGGING THE MANAGER TO BE MINDFUL WHEN HIRING OLD WHITE MEN TO BE THE FACE AND PERSONALITY OF YOUR ESTABLISHMENT!!! I don't know if he still stuck in 1950s but it'll take the RIGHT Black person to come behind this counter and he'll find out!!! I only gave 2 stars because the food was fast and sweet Black woman notice how he was acting towards us and deeply apologized!

Christopher L.

Yelp
Airport food means expensive. Airport food almost means it's probably average quality. This place struck on both of those themes. I got a burger here and it was expensive, greasy, and had fries that tasted like it was re-fried from the day before. It was in a nice central location to the terminals while I waited for my flight but had I ventured further down into the terminal or even the neighboring terminal, I probably would have found some better, tastier, and more worth-it options if I'm to drop a pretty penny on food like this. Will pass on this place the next time I'm around.

Highly O.

Yelp
Expensive and vile. $26 glass of wine. Overpriced cheese plate with cold, rock hard cheese and two slices of baguette that tasted of gasoline, I guess from being toasted with the torch.

Gaz H.

Yelp
There is nothing wrong with the kitchen here. The dishes I had were prepared well with quality ingredients. If you are stranded at EWR by all means come here and eat. You'll enjoy it. Is it overpriced? Yes. Is it in New Jersey? Yes. But you knew that. Order at your table on an iPad. Pay in advance. Eerily disconnected from the staff. But it is what it is. You want food? They have the tasty foods. They have nice bar drinks.

Kraig M.

Yelp
The nicoise salad was definitely the best food I've had at Newark airport. The lettuce was very fresh, tasty dressing, an appropriate amount of tuna, egg, green beans and potatoes; a very solid nicoise salad that you'd expect to get at a good mid-tier French restaurant in a large city. I took off one star for the price (about $40 for a salad and a club soda) and the mediocre service that seems to come along with Newark's "order from the ipad" system.

S ..

Yelp
Expensive garbage food. $15 for an egg mix microwaved sandwich. Some pieces of potatoes not fully cooked. $22 for an eggs Benedict after a 30 min wait in a fairly empty restaurant. The best part of the meal was the glass of water. The waitress and hostess were very nice, though.

Andres A.

Yelp
I've read some of the other reviews but in all honesty if you are eating in an airport you sort of expect to pay more than you normally would. We were in very early in the morning so we idid not have the opportunity to eat anything and we were getting ready to board a plane for about 6 hours. We had to get something to eat. The breakfast options were plentiful and the food was served quickly and it was good. The servers were very nice and at the end of the day this is all you can expect. In comparison to other places I've dined at in airports I really enjoyed my breakfast and the service.

Deborah N.

Yelp
For $31.95, the so-called "fish and chips" entree was a disappointing--nay, disgusting--ripoff. The fish itself was okay (i.e. not rotten), but the batter was flabby and soggy. The chips? Inedible and stone cold. We complained (nicely), and they promised a replacement. That took 20 minutes, at which point my partner had long finished his dinner. And the replacement chips/fries were, at best, warm-ish. Get the roast chicken, people. If you served someone "fish and chips" like this in my country (England), at any price, much less at this highway robbery charge...well, you'd be wearing it. And we are a polite people.

Gregory G.

Yelp
Food cold. Waiting service slow and incompetent. Extremely expensive. Definitely avoid.

David E.

Yelp
Service incredibly slow and food was mediocre - even for airport standards. No water refills and 45 minutes to make a sandwich.

Nathalie C.

Yelp
Food took over 25 mins to arrive, my flight got delayed so I decided to get some food and ordered the NY steak. The flavor was barely ok, super greasy sauce and smelled horrible. Fries were good but overall not the best place to eat at the airport specially at 52$ a steak.

Jeff R.

Yelp
Located conveniently on the approach to a group of United gates I stopped in for a breakfast and quickly regretted it. As all airport food, it is overpriced. $5 for a cup of tea, that is one tea bag and some Newark water in a cup. They use QR codes for menus and there are only a couple of people visible on the floor, limiting the service. I ordered the oatmeal and it was terrible. Basically, $25 for poor food and no service. I will not make this mistake again, and I recommend skipping this option if you are looking for a bite at the airport.

M B.

Yelp
Dumpy place service so bad. Waiters all Look and act mad to be working here. Over 35 min and still no food. They will act bothered when you ask them about your food because who cares if you have a plane to catch. They will blame you for not understanding why they're taking over 40 minutes for slices of cheese that don't need cooking or prepping. When they do bring your 4 cold small shrimp it will come on a plate of melting ice indicating it's just been sitting there waiting for one of these servers to run it out to you. The $22 Cheese plate was janky too - no toasted bread and no apples like described in its over priced menu. 45 minutes to slice hard bread? This is what we got: And there is nothing authentic about this French place. They thaw shrimp and put sauce in a plastic cup. They warm up olives pretending they're from the French countryside lol. Skip this and just go To the nearby convenience store.

George V.

Yelp
Airport food is getting better. It's still not on par with being in the restaurant in their kitchen but sometimes you find a hidden gem. I had a solid Croque Madame and cafe au lait at Saison. Not the best I've had but solid. Loses stars on technique and price but if you're a fan of a Croque Madame theirs isn't bad.

Chelsea C.

Yelp
If zero stars was an option I would pick that. Not only is this place crazy expensive the ordering platform is insane. It doesn't load and took forever to place the order. But I get it, technology isn't the best, so I still was hopeful. The food came out at all different times. I got the roasted chicken sandwich, it was dry and ice cold. My boyfriend got the sea bas and it was swimming in oil when it arrived. To top it off, the main reason I can write all of this is because we ordered one drink and it had enough alcohol to light the whole place in fire, with zero taste. Don't eat here. Not even if it's the last available option.

Nicholas S.

Yelp
Literally cannot order food. The app is broken and the "waiters" don't have any way of taking an order. Welcome to Newark! Update: managed to order that was impressively terrible and insanely overpriced

Christina K.

Yelp
Food was poor to average, and sadly overpriced, even for an airport. Service was abominable. I don't like being asked for a tip by their automated system before even receiving any service. If I'm at Concourse C inEWR in future, I will not stop here.

Javier G.

Yelp
Terrible, low quality, way overpriced food. Flavorless, sloppy presentation. Huge disappointment. Stay away from this place.

Sue B.

Yelp
One of the worst restaurant experiences I've ever had. Stupid stupid system that is totally f*cked. You order online w/o talking with a person and then wait forever for anything to come out. Stay away. Right now there are 5 people just standing around and yet it took 15 min. just to get a glass of wine. And 20 min. to get only part of my order, because they had to cancel the other part - not available. So then they had to show me how to go online to get a refund for the missing item. Now I have to watch it to see if I get the refund. Another thing to worry about. I don't know how they stay in business. Very weird and horrible experience. Captive audience I guess. But go anywhere else but here. Newark Airport.

Felicitas O.

Yelp
Very slim pickings for vegans! Or people that want something healthy Olives, green salad, avocado toast ( at least something) not impressed at all!!! Terrible Choices in 2021! It's a shame as the place is nice and staff friendly! At this point at least 30-50 of the menus should be Plantbased! For your health, the animals, our planet! It's bad enough I have to get on a plane on top of it I'd at least keep a low carbon footprint with my food!

Lisa B.

Yelp
Not good. System sucks. Have to order and pay online. Bartender played on his phone instead of waiting on people and had no choice to lower tipping below 18%. Chicken club sandwich was ok but the chicken on my salad was so dry I couldn't eat it.

Guy S.

Yelp
Overprice and service only appears when it's time to clear your plate. Probably corporate fault for not staffing enough competent people. Offensive restaurant.

Simon M.

Yelp
The food and drink is very expensive for what you get but that is expected. The rudeness is something you do not expect. We had paid almost $40 for two beers and one grilled cheese with fries. They did not have the beer (or second choice) we wanted but happily ordered whatever they had. No problem. This first waiter was very kind and personable. The main issue came from a waitress, she was older middle-aged'ish and blonde. You know who you are. We were there at around 3-4 pm on 3/28. We asked her if she would mind filling up our bottle of water. She said rather coldly "self serve" which we thought meant we do it ourselves. Of course, it can sometimes be hard to hear in a restaurant, within an airport, while wearing masks. After we finished our beer/snack, my wife went to grab a water jug and fill our water bottle. Shock horror, right? The waitress proceeded to stand inches behind my wife, make her jump (which caused her to spill a little water), and then make a bunch of passive aggressive and rude remarks about how we didn't listen to her, spilled some water, and we were not supposed to be filling our water bottle. Let me be clear, her tone was extremely condescending and hostile - and was totally unnecessary. It is tap water and we spent $40. Ultimately, it was a misunderstanding (she must have meant we should fill our bottle up outside the restaurant) and we just apologized and walked away. Not going to sit around and argue with an imbecile.

Valeriy K.

Yelp
The owner is probably saving money on the number of employees. As a result, the service basically does not exist. You do the waiter's work by using a qr menu and placing the order, but they a very serious to make you give a tip in advance And then of course they care even less about you. Then you wait for over half an hour for you dish. And if you think it's a basic quick bite place - no, it is a crazily overpriced... restaurant? Anyway, it was the 1st and last time we eat there.

Christina G.

Yelp
The atmosphere is good. Really open and a view of the airport so you don't feel too enclosed. I had a martini (dirty). Same size as most London/nyc restaurants and priced the same at $20. Martini was solid. I had the French onion soup. Get this. Worth the $16. Covid note: social distancing enforced and masks worn.
