"There aren’t many places in Austin where you can simultaneously order customizable tinned fish boards, sit on a sunny patio drinking some natural wine, and leave with a few cuts of 80-day dry-aged steak on your way out. Salt & Time Wine, a dedicated wine shop just two doors down from the original butcher shop and restaurant, is that place. Grab a glass to enjoy at the shop—it’s a very relaxed place, and is never over-crowded—or a bottle for later. And if you’re just dipping into the world of natural wine, they have a lot of bottles in the $20-30 range, making this place a very accessible entryway. " - nicolai mccrary, raphael brion

The carpaccio and the inside of the Wagyu filet mignon were good. But WHY was the outside of the filet mignon ruined with a thick layer of encrusting char on a medium rare Wagyu steak???!!

Yelp
Came here for my boyfriend's birthday and thoroughly enjoyed our meal! The standouts were the mains. He got the ribeye and I got the filet mignon. Both were cooked medium rare and tasted amazing! We also got the beef fat fries and OH MY GOD these might be the BEST fries in austin. The ketchup tasted homemade and was really good as well. We also shared the root vegetables which came in a really delicious strawberry sauce. I'd say skip the sourduck bread and butter. I wasn't a fan of how thin and small the bread pieces were, although the butter was delicious. Will definitely be coming back here for seconds! My bf wants to try the burger next time.

Yelp
Sad to hear a staple was closing, we went one day before their closing to try it out. Clearly they were already closed in their head... First I had heard about a $20 happy hour steak, nope not a thing. Wine and cocktails were half of but both red wines were bad and my husband was undrinkable he had so much sediment but they didn't do anything about it when we pointed it out. The steak and frites was good ($32 for the flank) and the burger was overcooked but good (+$1 for cheese, really? When it's already $22). Anyway, everything was overpriced and now I understand why they are closing.

Yelp
Came in wanting to try this place before they close down. I've heard that their steaks and burgers are top notch since it's straight from the source so I wanted to try. We didn't have a reservation but got seated easily at one of the tables on a weeknight. Our waiter was super super nice and the inside was very modern for a butcher. We ordered drinks and I loved the lemonade I got However, when it came to the main dish, unfortunately I believe they had a bit of an off night. My burger bun was a bit burnt and a little stale, so it took away from the delight of the burger overall. The fries were VERY good though - 10/10. My friend got the bolognese and said it was okay but needed a little more spice / flavor. Sad to hear that Salt and Time will be going away, but also glad to hear the team has given their praises to the next restaurant coming in on their heels.

Rogelio S.

Yelp
Service is friendly and attentive but a bit slow. If you have time and like good steaks in a not crowded restaurant, then this is the place for you. The only negative thing is that they have no Malbecs at all, and no Cabernets by the glass.

Laarni C.

Yelp
Salt & Time is a great spot for a tasty and laid-back lunch with good service and easy parking. However, the lunch experience can be hit or miss. My steak salad, while featuring good steak, was found to be underwhelming for its $22 price tag. I've had better less expensive salads. On the other hand, my friend's burger with fries was described as phenomenal. The standout dish was the odd bits of the day - chicken liver tacos.

Yelp
I've never been to Austin before and I am not sure when I will be back again, but this probably wasn't the strongest representation of Austin's dining scene. The restaurant is a little bit of a restaurant and a little bit of a shop. It gets quite loud the fuller it becomes. In the beginning of the night I could talk to the entire table. By the end it wasn't possible to hear people two seats away. The food was a mixed bag. The filet was very good - it was cooked more of a medium than a medium rare but it still was tender and savory. The bread side was surprisingly greasy. Grabbing to tear a chunk off I was surprised how my fingers glistened. The queso dip was forgettable. It was very runny and not very flavorful for being cheese and meat. The cocktails were excellent. The Berry Queen was bright, citrusy, and the egg white foam fantastic. The margarita was interestingly very salty. It had a mild jalapeño flavor but that's ok. The service was all over the place. Drinks and food were forgotten. No one would come by to check how we were or give us new water bottles after we drained the ones on the table. Not all the dishes were placed at the same time especially with dessert. The staff seemed earnest but they also seemed exceptionally stressed. For the price point I guess I was expecting something a little different but it was fine.

Yelp
After reading some negative reviews, I was a little hesitant to try Salt and Time. However, my friend and I had a very tasty lunch with great service. We split the bread (with blue cheese butter and marrow butter), ceasar salad, and buffalo chicken sandwich (with beef fat fries). The two butters were really flavorful and went well with the little baguette crostinis. The dressing on the ceasar salad was different than most places which I really enjoyed. Plus, it came with a big anchovy which I am 100% about. Finally, the chicken sandwich was cooked nicely and was a good bread to meat/filling ratio. The fries had a solid beef flavor and a good amount of salt. I don't know that I was the biggest fan of their housemade ketchup, but that was such a minor element to an overall delicious meal. Finally, our server Anna was very attentive and helpful. She handled our substitutions with politeness and explained the purpose of the service fee very well. I look forward to coming back and trying more items.

Yelp
Solid first visit to Salt & Time, with a party of 5 (plus an additional spot for a car seat). Thankful we were able to make a same-day reservation (through Resy for 12pm), and it wasn't crowded at all on a Saturday late morning. Favorite dishes were the Steak and Eggs (would definitely recommend asking for crispy potatoes) and the French Toast. Family was a bit underwhelmed by the slower service and appetizers (chorizo queso and beef fat beignets), but they were worth a try based on other reviews here. Note that on weekends, they only serve a brunch menu, so we hope to visit again for some of the more regular lunch/main dinner options.

Yelp
A sorry excuse for a Steakhouse is the best way I can describe this place. In hindsight, I should have just sent back my Ribeye. I came here with a work colleague and with very high expectations. It's not often that you have a steakhouse and a butchers shop in the same place. I checked out the butcher shop. Meats looked great and were premium priced, so I'd expect it to taste great. I thought the ambiance was nice and I liked the vibe. It went completely downhill from there. My steak was very salty. I didn't think much about it, since I had some super hot wings prior to coming here, till my colleague who took home stuff I leftover and gave me the same feedback a couple days later. For a prime cut, the meat was a bit chewy and did not melt in my mount like some of the ribeyes I'm accustomed to eating. For a 68$ steak, I expect a lot more. Very disappointing.

Dan C.

Yelp
This is the exactly the kind of place that rests on the laurels of an aura from its past that doesn't match the reality of the experience in the present. Saved the visit for a guest in town -- that ended up being equal parts confusing and disappointing... albeit it was consistent throughout. What makes Salt & Time special is that it's a butcher shop. The restaurant is most of the space, and is brightly lit and simply appointed. The fact that it's a celebrated butcher shop in itself sets a certain expectation -- of quality product and knowledge in preparation/execution. With a regular prime Friday evening dinner hour seating, after taking our order the server first came back to inform they did not have ribeye steaks (at a butcher shop run restaurant)... and then returned again to inform they were out of the vegetable caponata side. The two steaks that arrived, ordered medium rare, looked sad in the most average way, and was so overcooked and dry it was as though whomever did the cooking couldn't care less. Similarly, the hostess and wait staff are some combination of curt, frazzled, disinterested, and completely unaware. All in all, seems like its best days are in the past... maybe their pasta offerings were where it's at.

Britt Z.

Yelp
I've been meaning to come here for so long and I'm glad I finally made reservations and went. I probably would've been OK if I just got the charcuterie board because that was amazing. They had a lot of great cocktail options though I didn't one this trip. They also do a natural wine, an orange natural wine (yummm) for those that enjoy a pet-nat. Food we did a steak and a pasta dish. The bone marrow butter for the steak deserves an award in its own right. Pasta was yummy with a surprise ricotta ball under the noodles. Cute artisan spot for a date night or delicious treat for yourself. They also offer a variety of in-house deli meat and accouterments for graze boards. Their house butter is also available for purchase on the ship side that make great gift items, especially for a house warming

Yelp
This spot is very cool! Its a butcher shop as well as a restaurant. Great spot to pick up meats. They also run the wine shop next door. The service was top notch. We were seated immediately and were constantly being checked on by our server. We ordered 4 dishes between 2 of us and this was the perfect amount. The wagyu steak tartare was great. Definitely better than some I have had before. It was very flavorful and loved that they were served with little baguette crostinis. We also got the brussel sprouts which were tossed with a bacon jam which was stellar! I would recommend putting some of the jam onto the crostini and topping with some tartare! Great combo. The side salad was a perfect vegetable based side to cut through the heavier flavors. The carbonara lacked a strong flavor but the noodles were cooked to perfection. Overall, good dining experience at Salt & Time. Some dishes were great while some were just mediocre. I would recommend checking out if you're looking for a new spot in Austin. Great lowkey dinner spot if you don't have a reservation someplace because it does't seem to get too busy and is out of the busy areas.

Yelp
I had sky high hopes for this place, and was glad to finally eat here in person after having a burger for takeout during the pandemic. I'm on a quest to find the best burgers in Austin and that takeout experience had been great, but I wasn't ready to post a full review until I'd eaten here in person. Sadly, the burger didn't *quite* live up to my dreams. The meat was EXCELLENT, with an interesting maple-y flavor (to me, no one else thought so), but the bun was a bit too dense for me. I'd love a lower ratio of bread to burger. The fries were in need of salt. Cocktails were solid, but not anything to come back for. Also had the short rib bolognese, which sounded amazing and was good, but not a stand-out. Service was excellent and I love the decor/vibe of this place. Maybe it was an off day? I would come back to buy some of their meat from the butcher shop, for sure. They also had good happy hour specials.

Mac C.

Yelp
Damn their cold old fashion is worth stopping by. Had thier burger and it was really good too!

Theo P.

Yelp
10/10! Get the Brunch Burger. It's massive and high quality. Emily the server was very thoughtful and kind. Would come back! Good vibe too!

Jenny S.

Yelp
No wait! Slow service but worth the trip. Also has a market inside, butcher shop, excellent wine list.

Marie S.

Yelp
We had lunch with a large group. Parking was a nightmare! I thought it may be ok for our group to have a quick lunch on a Wednesday, but finding parking took over 30 minutes. The manager and staff were not happy that we showed up with no reservation. We were willing to wait for a table. One of the waitress (wearing spandex running shorts) was rude. I would give her 1 star. There is a nice large full bar. They have a butcher shop. They have couple communal tables which is nice. They turned over a table quickly for us. Our waitress was great. She said they are known for their burgers. She also recommended the ham sandwich and steak. She also recommended the fries. I got the ham sandwich with fries. Our group ordered steak, steak salad, burger, charcuterie with cheese, queso and another appetizer. The charcuterie had beef liver and duck confit. It was my favorite dish. I was disappointed with the rest of the dishes. It lacked flavor. I'm not a chef but it needs special sauces/condiments to make it taste better. The bun to meat ratio is off. Too much bun. I would not return due to parking and the food.

Stephen B.

Yelp
There may be a price to pay for the best quality meat in Austin but there is no doubt Salt and Time is your go to butcher. I have had the privilege of buying the most amazing rib roasts from them over the years. Each have been locally sourced and of primo quality. Give them a try. You won't be disappointed.

Lydia H.

Yelp
The first time I came here was on a whim, to celebrate my anniversary with my boyfriend (back in February). We had the Short Rib Bolognese, a dry aged steak, and the beef fat fries. Everything was absolutely delicious and I loved the steak so much, that I scheduled a brunch date with some friends. While our brunch was still good, I was a little disappointed with what I got. I ordered the Steak & Eggs, medium rare and chose the 8oz Wagyu club as my steak. While the eggs and fried potatoes were fabulous, my steak was cooked to medium instead of medium rare and was a little dry. The chimichurri sauce helped a lot, but I'd expected a $51 cut of wagyu to be better. I do love that the store section carries the Torres chips since the truffle ones are my favorite!

Emily K.

Yelp
Update: While I appreciate the explanation below about the service fee, that was not well explained to us while dining and it felt like they were nickel and diming us while still expecting a 20% tip. It's cute inside. Quiet but not sleepy. The marrow butter and the soy pickles were the highlights of the meal. Our waiter was nice but service was slow. 2.25 hours when we orders two appetizers and each got an entree for a table of six. The steak was disappointing. No other way to say it. The ambassador wagyu was incredible tough, almost stringy and difficult to cut even with the steak knife. It was difficult to chew and the outside was an odd combination of crispy and tough. I couldn't chew it. I wasn't asked what temperature I wanted. It came a medium. For a restaurant that prides themselves on their steak because they are also a butcher shop, maybe stick to the butcher shop. I was completely put off the service fee. That's really the last straw between two and three stars. If you can't stay in business, raise your prices. If you can't pay your employees a living wage and offer some form of health insurance, rethink your business practices. Don't tack on a random 15% tell me it goes to the employees and still expect me to tip 20%. You're hurting your reputation and you're hurting your employees.

Yelp
Flew in out of state to celebrate my 35th birthday. 2nd time coming here(1st time was amazing.) Waited over 35 mins and still never received my drinks. Staff in no rush. Decided to leave and still staff didn't seem to care much. Just waved bye. Other couples received their drinks before us even after we ordered before them. Horrible customer service.

William Z.

Yelp
Stopped by for lunch with friends. Salt and Time is a butcher shop and a restaurant. Nothing fancy. We were looking for a good burger. Two of us ordered the burger and I ordered the steak frites. My steak was undercooked a bit but ok. Nothing memorable for a butcher shop. The burgers were a bit dry according to one friend. When my bill came it included a sizable service charge. According to the waiter, it allowed the restaurant to provide health benefits to the staff. I personally think they should increase the price rather than slip in a service charge.

Hallie S.

Yelp
Phenomenal happy hour. The drinks were well made and the food was beyond tasty. Extremely well priced, it almost is too good to be true!!! One of the most delicious steaks I have had in while, I suggest asking for chefs preference when asked how you would like your food prepared. I went at an awkward hour in the day & the staff was still so friendly and sat me in a comfortable nook area which made for an even more pleasant experience! Great atmosphere, cannot wait to go back.

Don W.

Yelp
I really like this restaurant, stopped there for brunch today and had their Cajun Benedict, which was outstanding! Really a great location with easy parking in East Austin. Menu can be a little pricey, but great quality, and they do charge a service fee, added to your check which I was very surprised

Peter R.

Yelp
Food was mediocre at best. Ordered the short rib pasta. Not a single piece of short rib, all ground beef. Service took about 15 mins for a waiter to greet us once we were sat down. Cramped seatings, definitely not family friendly. 2nd time coming to this restaurant. First time was at lunch and I had the hamburger which was excellent. Wanted to bring my family back for same experience but quickly regretted it. Not consistent.

Melinda N.

Yelp
I would come here if i want really good quality meat. They have a great burger. I got quail and it was slightly undercooked (slightly pink and may have not been heated throughout) and i may have gotten sick later that night. I also had oysters at a different place before coming here so i can't be sure. They are doing this promotion, if you spend $10 at the restaurant, wine store and butcher's, you can enter a raffle for Dinner for 4 up to $500. The brussels were great (deep fried in beef fat is the best way to enjoy vegetables) Also they make their ketchup in house and you can taste the difference. I enjoyed the house salad with the butter lettuce.

Stephanie A.

Yelp
tried this place for the first time & thought the food was really good! I got the steak and eggs with wagyu ($51 since I upgraded) and thought it was super delicious, fresh, and flavorful! I think the star of the show though was the bread with bone marrow butter! Absolutely delicious! I even bought a jar to take home from their store ($7). From the store you can also buy meat, milk, seasonings, and other products! The service was really good as well! Heads up that there is a service fee included in the check already, but you are always welcome to tip more (it was only 15%). All and all, i'd definitely come back and try more of their dishes!

Lyna T.

Yelp
Came here for lunch and it was a cute little market with a restaurant inside. They have fresh produces and butcher shop with fresh meat. Workers were nice and friendly. The menu at the restaurant was simple and food was good. Overall, good experience and nice place to have lunch.

Bonnie R.

Yelp
We had dinner here on Sunday with HH prices. We both had the steak, salad and duck fat fries. All three were delicious and good size portions. Good atmosphere and a really nice waiter!

Allie R.

Yelp
Amazing burger made fresh from their shop. You can make a reservation or they accept walk-ins. Perfect casual spot for a delicious meal. Great ambiance and they have a small store that make perfect gifts for your loved ones that enjoy cooking. Definitely recommend checking out this restaurant!

Marissa V.

Yelp
Butcher shop, restaurant, and salumeria serving delicious sausages and meats from Texas ranches. . : Food (5/5 Stars): Their "farm to table" dining is fantastic. For brunch, they offer a small menu of starters, boards, and brunch classics. We opted for the Charcuterie Board with the Chef's Selection of Cheese to start and were impressed by the assortment of yummy (unique!) meats and cheeses - although it was a bit expensive for the amount of food we received. I ordered the Chorizo Benedict - the chorizo was spicy, delicious, and served in a creamy Smoked Tomatillo Hollandaise Sauce. I also tried a bite of the Short Rib Poutine and was blown away by the flavor and tenderness of the Braised Short Rib, as well as the Beef Gravy it was cooked in. . : Drink (4/5 Stars): Assortment of cocktails, beer, wine, and non-alcoholic drinks. We enjoyed some Bloody Marys and Mimosa carafes during our brunch. Their coffee was also tasty and served in a cute, mini French Press. . : Service (3/5): Our service was pretty disappointing. I've seen a few negative reviews commenting on the service here that I definitely agree with, including Dolly who mentioned that their server was "in a mood" - we had a similar experience where my friends and I also gave each other the "is he for real?" look throughout our meal. . : Atmosphere (5/5 Stars): Calm, clean, aesthetic atmosphere. I would recommend making a reservation during their busy hours. Free parking available out front.

Vanessa O.

Yelp
Bad burger and bad service. Tried the burger after reading a review that it was one of the best. The burger was dry and overdone with a tiny patty and huge bun. Bad lettuce and the fries were cooked in old oil. We were quoted the happy hour price and then charged full price. After the waitress misquoted the price and wouldn't honor what she said, she auto charged a tip. Do not recommend.

Zach S.

Yelp
Service was great . The atmosphere is great. Normally the food is top tier but little disappointed in the burger. I ordered Medium well wasn't edible in my opinion.

Mariano V.

Yelp
Total ripoff! Smallest portions of my life, ask before you order! service was good tho

Jairo S.

Yelp
They advertise as welcoming of pets, but they just take service animals. False advertising. (Take out) Food is okay.

Tiffany G.

Yelp
I just dined there for the second time with my hubz and son. I really like the vibe here - the food is great /the menu is varied/ the cocktail's are innovative and the service has always been good - BUT I FEEL BLINDSIDED THAT A 15% TIP WAS ADDED AND WE WERE NOT TOLD. I always leave at least 20%+ - so the amount isn't the issue - but to not tell me up front is not cool. I didn't catch it and didn't expect it as we were a party of 3. Again - Not cool! NOT sure I'll be back.

Deanna K.

Yelp
Went for lunch and enjoyed an excellent sandwich! Lunch menu has some classics just done exceptionally well and a good overall variety. Split the club and roast beef sandwiches both of which were excellent with plenty of meat and bread that held up well. Started with the sausage charcuterie which was delicious as well! Waiter was friendly and attentive. Patio is small but good size table for four and the area was quiet for lunch.

Heather B.

Yelp
Brunch burger was delicious - juicy and flavorful with a yummy bun. The real star of the plate though was the french fries with salt, pepper and homemade ketchup. So good! We also had the baguette and garlic butter and recommend these. The What is an Old Fashioned was surprisingly good - made of tequila, mezcal and spiced liquor. Note to this establishment: adding a 15% service fee to the bill and making your servers explain it as they process payment is demeaning to them. Raise your menu prices to cover these fees. It's called the cost of doing business. I guarantee you people are shorting your staff's tips when they see this fee.

C C.

Yelp
The food was not good. I ordered the burger, pretty straight forward for a butcher shop. I requested med-rare, came out well done and bland. The bun was dry, and borderline stale. It came with a massive slice of beef steak tomato, not sure what the thought is on that. Wife ordered the steak salad, also not good. Again, meat was over cooked and loaded with tortilla strips. It was essentially a lettuce, and tortilla strip salad with a couple of slices of steak and tomatoes. The service saved a 1 star review, server was nice and courteous.

Andrea G.

Yelp
Ambiance of this place is great. Service is okay, a little slow and not very above average but they were nice enough. The food is really lacking for me. The menu seems thought out and has a lot of potential, but the actual dishes were really lacking for me. I came in for brunch and had the chorizo queso, it had so much lime in it I couldn't taste anything else. I looked for the shallots, chorizo and different types of cheese but it was all covered by the lime. I also had the short rib poutine, the flavors and textures were poorly developed. The fries were soggy, short rib was tender but didn't have any textural difference between it and the gravy. Overall the dish tasted like a mush off potato, beef, gravy and egg. It lacked any fresh aspects, I wish it had some herbs to it. I wanted to like this place, but I couldn't. If I came back it would be for the butcher shop or to try the charcuterie, definitely not the food.

Mimi C.

Yelp
The food was good and the service was ok but they should update the furnitures. Especially the sofa.

Chris H.

Yelp
$80 for two burgers that were sub par... no thanks. they add a 15% surcharge that says it's for healthcare for employees. It's not my responsibility to pay healthcare for your employees..: it's your responsibility.

Laine B.

Yelp
Overall, not worth the hype that I've heard about this place. I went with a friend for brunch on a Sunday and the atmosphere was nice. Try not to be seated against the wall with the shared leather bench. The leather bench is torn to shreds and needs replacing. I had the burger, which was good. The accompanying fries had no seasoning. My friend had the salad, which they described as subpar. We both had water and our bill was around $50 (including their service fee and our tip). Service was great! It was the best thing about this place.

Bee B.

Yelp
Went to Salt and Time for Austin Restaurant week. Not disappointed and will be returning soon. I need to try other items off the menu. The steaks were so tender and delicious!! My sister ordered marrow butter with her wagyu coulotte, but it did not need it. They did not skimp on the portions either. I was stuffed and wished I could have tried the beef fat fries. They have rotating seasonal cocktails and we got a chance to try the "skies are grey", which has gin/lemon and is super refreshing!

Teri K.

Yelp
I give salt & time 4 1/2 stars. Definitely one of the tastiest burgers you can get your mitts on in Austin. Beautifully marbled and flavorful. You really don't need to add any other toppings but the options to indulge are there. Always nice selection of Texas wines. Don't miss the little market while you're waiting for your food

Mike E.

Yelp
Food: 3/5 I'm always skeptical of a restaurant that boasts about a "gourmet burger," and Salt & Time gives reason to continue the skepticism. Yes, the burger is better than a fast food burger, but it doesn't even come close to being worth it for the price they charge for meat and cheese on a bun. Service: 3/5 We found ourselves waiting for drinks several times during our dining experience here. That being said the staff was very friendly. Environment: 4/5 Salt & Time is a great butcher shop, and they promote this very well with their aesthetic. Very clean!

J N.

Yelp
First time, we went. Food was about three stars, 2nd time, food was so not good. Salad was wilted and drench in salad dressing. Really disappointed.

Fernando G.

Yelp
As we walked in, a man with medium-long hair and glasses blocked our way and "greeted" us with "Can I help you?" Because of weather conditions, they closed a couple of hours early, which is understandable. Regardless, that's an extremely inept and rude way to greet customers. There was no signage saying it was closed, and there were a couple of tables with people still having dinner. He quickly realized his mistake and tried to fix the situation by offering to make us some "quick burgers." His handling of the situation was so terrible it bordered on comical. I've been to S&T many times before and had always had a pleasant experience with food and service, but this man has made me not want to go back.

Yelp
It was a nice place and the staff were very nice, but the steak was just ok and it was a little pricey all up There's a 15% gratuity that's not a tip, so I felt I should tip on top of that, and for an a la carte steak that was nothing really amazing, a glass of wine and a can of sparkling water it ended up being like 93 bux I like that it was a la carte btw, since I don't really care for sides and stuff, but I'm not sure I'd come back
