Breadless is expanding to a location in Rochester Hills | Eater Detroit

"Geared up by Breadless co-founder Ryan Eli Salter, I learned that Salt & Ko. is a solo restaurant project slated to open on the ground level of the Radisson Hotel Southfield-Detroit just after Independence Day." - Serena Maria Daniels

Salt + Ko is a new Black-owned restaurant opening in Southfield, Michigan | Eater Detroit

"Hoping to give new life to the Radisson Hotel Southfield-Detroit's ground-floor restaurant, Chef Ryan Eli Salter is opening Salt & Ko on July 5 at 26555 Telegraph Road as a restaurant, bar, and event space to showcase the culinary flair he's developed in Detroit. What began as his Salt & Ko catering platform for about five years led to him taking over the 3,200-square-foot space — previously home to the Nomad Grill and most recently Mezcalero — and in just 12 weeks the interior was given a dialed-down, modern redesign by Lux Living 365 with build-out by R.M. Remodeling Solutions; the main dining room seats 78 and features a vibrant mural of the spot’s namesake painted by Alexa Daluz. Salter aims for an approachable menu that still nods to his Harlem upbringing, culinary training, and access to Detroit urban-farm ingredients: highlights include the Drunken Pig, a monstrous pulled pork sandwich with house-made red wine barbecue sauce and thin slivers of wine-poached pears; shareable sliders in beef, lamb, turkey, or salmon; and a five-cheese mac and cheese served in a miniature skillet that he’s been honing to improve on his grandmother’s recipe, which she approves of. The venue also offers a full bar with nonalcoholic beverages and cocktails, lounge seating, a private event room for up to 20, and is already hosting bachata and salsa nights on Wednesdays, with plans for tasting menus, pop-ups, and monthly brunch parties — an approach I think could suit Southfield well by bringing a more casual fine-dining vibe to the suburb." - Serena Maria Daniels

Ryan Eli Salter, a Co-Founder of Breadless in Detroit, Is Opening His Own Restaurant in Southfield | Eater Detroit

"Opening July 1 on the ground level of the Radisson Hotel Southfield-Detroit (26555 Telegraph Road), this new gastropub occupies a 3,200-square-foot space and emphasizes American comfort food made with fresh, locally sourced ingredients. The program pairs a full bar and cocktails with a line of house-made draft mocktails (branded as nonalcoholic social tonics), live entertainment, and monthly brunch parties. Menu highlights put twists on comfort staples, including a drunken pig sandwich of slow-roasted pulled pork in a red-wine barbecue sauce, lamb sliders, and ginger-and-thyme salmon with a lavender rice pilaf. The space is being designed by Lux Living 365 and built out by R.M. Remodeling Solutions. The concept is led by Ryan Eli Salter, who previously co-founded a leafy green–leaning sandwich shop, trained at the International Culinary Center, worked at Angel of Harlem, headed food service at the Aretha Franklin Amphitheatre, and operated a full-service catering company and collaborative pop-up projects. The restaurant is hiring front- and back-of-house staff, and reservations open June 15." - Serena Maria Daniels

Google
Nearly empty only 1 person working bar and tables. Menu not updated server said no longer serving holy shitake but still listed on menu. No drink menu exist. Served a toasted hoagie bun with the Alfredo pasta why not just serve garlic bread. Overall disatisfied with the environment, service and meal. Will not recommend.

This was literally worst breakfast me or my family ever had. Ciara was the BEST waitress ever but the chef should be ashamed. Our grits and catfish were burnt. You could smell it before even attempting to taste it. There were no fresh eggs. My brother and son wanted eggs over easy and after waiting over an hour for their food, were told that the eggs were frozen. My son's eggs were literally oozing water. My son's pancakes were black. He didn't eat them or the eggs. I didn't eat my food after having to send it back for being burned. Some of the shrimp were old. It was bad. I left my food as did my brother and my son and daughter. We all left hungry. My brother is now about to fry fish so we can eat. Just terrible. Wasted over $300 I really wanted to support black business but this was not it.

Google
Bunch has an amazing vibe, played good music and the whole team is so welcoming and kind. The chef is talented the food was fresh, flavorful, and made with care. I’ll definitely be back and highly recommend checking them out!

Service is great and food is delicious. Had dinner, lamb chops are 🔥 and went back next day for brunch and it was just as delicious! Prices are reasonable - great vibe!!!

Google
THE WORST ! I’ve been twice. They’re on all the sites - Groupon, Marriott, Skymiles. The 1st time my food was prepared wrong & they overcharged me but I gave them grace with a 4 star rating because the food was decent; and obviously they’re a struggling business. No grace this time. THEY REFUSED TO HONOR MY BRUNCH VOUCHER. Initially, server provided the attached 2 page menu, but when I informed that a Groupon would be used…. she provided a hand-written slip of paper with approx. 5 items, no prices. She said I was entitled to a drink, but the owner would not honor the $70 value of the Groupon and I could request a refund. No wonder their establishment is empty most of the time.

Google
I had been here before but I didn't have dinner. This time I had the loaded gumbo and it was delicious! Could have been a little more spicy for gumbo but it was great and I also had the fried strawberry cheesecake and that was delicious as well. A waitress good but she kept disappearing and right before I got irritated she would always pop back up LOL

Google
The chicken and waffles were okay. While I requested overlooking of the chicken, it was somewhat overcooked too much. There was no posting of the gratuity automatically being included in the bill of three, which was fine because I am a tipster. My issue was the bill has a cash price and a card price, which was also fine but I had the exact cash amount of $20.73 and I was told they don't accept change and I was asked to give a dollar in place of the change and I wasn't given my $0.22 change. I could have paid with my debit card to avoid that issue but then I would have been charged a higher amount for using my card.

Google
Salt + Ko might honestly be my new go-to spot in Southfield. The food is crazy good and the portions are big. Those big ass chicken wings? Yeah… they really look like pterodactyl wings lol. If you go, here’s my personal order: Start with the naked wings, then try the gumbo wings, and on your next visit grab the Alfredo wings. The steak bites are solid too — good size, not those tiny pieces some places try to pass off. The smash burger is also fire. Ask for barbecue sauce and sweet chili sauce on the side. Trust me, it makes a difference. The vibe in there is always smooth. Most nights there’s a DJ, and they play the kind of music you actually want to hear. The dance floor stayed packed the whole time — had me low-key realizing I need to learn the Tamia shuffle before I go back. Parking was easy, which is already a win. And honestly, it’s just a nice lil spot to chill after work. Seems like there’s always something going on. Service was really good. Our waitress was on point the whole night — attentive without hovering. I tipped well over 15% because she actually earned it. I don’t drink, but my date did, and she said the drinks were good and strong. They’ve got a nice little drink menu too. All in all, I spent a little under $120 for both of us, tip included, and we had enough food left over for later that night and lunch the next day. Definitely worth it. Salt + Ko is just a dope spot — great food, great energy, great people. I’ll be back for sure.

Yelp
The food is flavorful and cooked well, the service was great. The owner is very personable and friendly, and we felt very taken care of. The space feels a little large, but it is modern and clean, and has some really cute little loungey areas; one seating area with a couch is near a fireplace, and it's really cute over there. The bar is lit nicely. For drinks, we had the owner's recommendation, which is called "bath water." Inspired by Salt Burn, this cocktail was made with a smoky mezcal and coconut water, rimmed with coconut shavings. It was smoky and sweet and tasty. I also had a basic vodka soda, and it was a nice pour. I do wish they had a selection of signature drinks, but if you know what you like, they've got you covered. For food, I had the lamb chops and green beans, and my friend ordered the salmon, green beans and mashed potatoes. Everything was seasoned very nicely and cooked well; the zip sauce was really yummy on the lambies. Both of us really enjoyed the green beans which come with carmelized onions on top, and were a standout side, where at many restaurants I feel like they're either under or over-cooked and lack any flavor. Mashed potatoes were good. I was excited to hear that they'll be trying more specials coming up soon; I'd love to see what they come up with because their catering is so good. I think this is an ideal place for lunch right now; if I worked in Southfield, I'd be here more often, as there aren't too many places like it. It would also be great for happy hour. I will say that I think the lighting was a bit too bright for dinner; I'd suggest they dim those lights. We were also there during the transition from dinner to R&B night on a Saturday night, and that time between 9 and 10:30 is a little odd - seating is removed, lounge furniture is brought in, and a DJ sets up and begins to play music. I think it would be ideal if they broke the space up a bit with more permanent soft seating, but I imagine the logistics are tough going from lunch all the way to late night. I do love that they have a big dance floor - this would be a great place to have a birthday party, and it looks like some promoters are packing the place out for events. I'd love to see that continue. Overall, a good experience, and I'd love to try one of their nightlife parties.

Yelp
To be honest, I have been trying to have this culinary experience for months. I won a gift card at an event in the spring and was so excited to try them out. They are located in the Radisson hotel. Please note that they are closed on Sundays and some holidays. So, today was the day! I had lunch on Veterans Day. I was excited they were open. First, The Good: 1) I was greeted by Andi/Sandy as soon as I walked in although she was helping other patrons at another table. She was holding down the restaurant all by herself with five parties. Bravo beautiful! 2) SALT + KO has tons of seating options from cozy fireside chairs, couches, high top and regular tables and the bar. They also have a private room. The restaurant also has a DJ stand and dance area. They have a schedule of nightly events Monday - Saturday. My lunch selection was their Shrimp Po' Boy and their 4 Cheese Mac & Cheese. They were both delicious. I had enough of the Truffle Mac to take home for later. Now, The Bad: 1) It was 63 degrees in the restaurant. I sat right by the thermostat. 2) They were out of several things on the menu. I really wanted to try the sautéed broccolini. 3) The prices that were charged on the check were a few dollars higher than the price on the menu. I let it slide because my gift card was covering most of my bill. Please update your menu prices. It matters. Thank you. S + K is available for dining, events and catering.

Yelp
The Food was great. the drinks are delicious and I loved that they had vegan options for my friend who joined me.

Yelp
Went to Salt & Ko for a weekday lunch. The restaurant was very quiet - was that a bad sign? - but we were seated quickly. Food was excellent - very hot and good size portions. Service was also very good. Highly recommend.

Lee H.

Yelp
My meal here was excellent. The "holy shitake" handheld was a fresh take on a vegan sandwich, and the side of broccolini was perfect. The service was attentive although the food was slow to come, especially in a mostly empty restaurant. The real issue was noise. The restaurant is poorly designed for sound management so every sound carries. Despite being mostly empty, the room was very noisy, which only made the patrons noisier. The canned music was also very loud and jarring. The lighting is also harsh. The combination made me want to leave ASAP. Despite enjoying the food and the courteous service,, I would not eat three again.

Yelp
My son chose Salt + Ko to cater his wedding. We went to the tasting and the food was great. What we experienced at the wedding was nothing like what we had at the tasting. The steaks were so undercooked, even people that liked their steaks rare didn't care for them. The salmon was cold and dry. The vegetables were not fresh - they were obviously frozen as they were soggy. The manager wouldn't answer calls or emails from anyone associated with the wedding. So unfortunate. So much money was spent for such a disappointing meal. Do not use this company for catering,

Yelp
Renovated? Difficult to enter parking area due to construction. The food is very good, but it took a LONG time coming, but I am sure to group size?

Yelp
The food at Salt and Ko was really good, very flavorful and tasty. The restaurant was a little busy and we were told that the staff was a little new but that didn't prevent them from being friendly and helpful.

Yelp
we had a reservation for 7pm that didn't matter we still had to wait we finally sat down started ordering the only thing came out in a reasonable time is the drinks the sides finally came after 30-45mins and as you can see no meat we ordered the sides with lamb chops and steak bites they never came we asked the waitress where the rest of the food was she continued to say its coming out after waiting about 30 more mins in the freezing restaurant we asked for boxes and the bill told her to cancel the meats and thats when she bought the bill for $123 and told us we never ordered meats and thats when we realized the service was terrible and they couldn't handle the crowd the sides wernt to bad but after $123 i would have liked to be full and had more than sides probably will never go again
