"This Tex-Mex spot has been going strong since 1992, with margaritas that have kept the community roaring that whole time. Order the chile relleno, flautas, and queso fundido (add the chorizo!). Also of note is the Filet San Miguel, which is a preparation you’re unlikely to see elsewhere on this side of the border." - Courtney E. Smith, Leslie Chatman

This is one of the best spots I've ever tried for Mexican food! This family-owned restaurant has been serving the community for over 32 years. Arturo and the staff are incredibly friendly, making me feel right at home. The ranchero plate and sopapilla dessert were my favorites – both were bursting with amazing flavor. I highly recommend checking this place out!

Above and beyond quality service. Food was out of this world delicious and their margaritas are excellent.

When we arrived around 7pm on a weekday the parking lot was packed but we were seated immediately. My wife uses a wheelchair. Everything was accessible and the staff was very helpful with the doors. We did not use the restroom so I can’t speak to that. The tortilla soup and corn tortillas were the best I’ve ever had. I had a margarita there and we also took one to go. Everything was delicious and the staff were so friendly and attentive. I wish we’d had time to go back before we returned to Michigan.

Google
Great service and good. The service was amazing and the food quality was great. We had the shrimp and chimichanga. Unfortunately no draft beer and more family orientated if that's your thing a little tight for a date night. However it's a must go to.

Google
The African Americans of the McKinney group hosted our monthly gathering here. San Miguel provided comfortable seating for 32 people. The food and drinks were delicious. Our waiters were friendly and did their job well. I would highly recommend this restaurant for a gathering of a large number of people, creating a joyful and enjoyable atmosphere.

Our family loved San Miguel’s! We were warmly greeted at the entrance and seated right away. The moment we sat down they brought out chips and salsa immediately and water for everyone. Food was delicious! Kids couldn’t stop raving about the food. We loved the quesadillas and steak as well.ps kids might have helped in writing this review lol🤣

Google
Me and my family love this place! Been coming here for years! Everytime we come down to Texas to see my granny, we make sure to stop here. It’s been a little family tradition that I really enjoy. The food was amazing as usual and service was wonderful. The atmosphere is very warm and friendly! I love this place because it feels like you’re apart of a family. You will always feel welcomed here!

Google
San Miguel Grill his family owned and operated. The food is absolutely wonderful and always made fresh. The service is top of the line and the employees as well as owners get to know all their customers by name.I have been eating in a restaurant weekly for over 10 years and it’s truly the best Mexican food around.

Van S.

Yelp
Food is delicious. The cheese chile relleno is the best I have ever had. Tacos Mixtecos is another favorite. Have never had anything on the menu that wasn't good. From the chips and salsa, tacos, burritos and enchiladas. Highly recommend the frozen margaritas. Great restaurant with friendly staff and nice ambiance.

Polina T.

Yelp
Stopped by for a quick lunch the other day upon a recommendation, and were pleasantly surprised. It was a Wednesday early afternoon , relatively slow, good service. I got the sour cream and chicken enchiladas and my fiance got the beef chimichanga . This place is nothing fancy, but worth checking out if you like Mexican food. Looking forward to coming back and trying the fajitas .

Kimberly M.

Yelp
The food is great! My favorite is their tortilla soup with chicken. Great service and reasonable prices. The atmosphere is very authentic, great ambiance.

Gabriella V.

Yelp
Service is incredibly nice to the point where I really don't want to write this review. I don't know, I guess I'm spoiled by real Mexican and Tex Mex restaurants that I can't find anything nice to post. Everything you can buy at a grocery store, from the chips to the queso. I don't know what they're doing back there. Plates are extremely hot but the food itself is like room temperature, which isn't a good sign. The decor is cute but what does that matter if you can't finish your plate? (I also did indeed get sick after!)

Jack L.

Yelp
Came here with some coworkers for lunch while I was in town. They come to this place once a week and really love it. There was some kind of corporate event in the private area so the parking lot was packed, but the restaurant itself wasn't super busy. I got the chimichangas and they were okay. Lots of chicken, which is great, but there was actually too much cheese inside (never thought I would say that!). My coworkers all got the #13 steak and it looked delicious, and they all swear by it. I will definitely try that next time I am here. Staff was super friendly and efficient. Food came out quickly. I would certainly allow my coworkers to take me here again.

Richard W.

Yelp
They greet you when you walk in with enthusiasm. The food was good but they can make anything for you if they have it in the kitchen. The place is well decorated and had some glass figurines representing the different States of Mexico. We will be back.

Moran D.

Yelp
I. Was driving past this place like a thousand times and always thought to myself this looks like an authentic Mexican food place. Finally this time we decided to stop and get in for some dinner. The place looks so authentic on the inside you might think you actually in Mexico. The stuff was super welcoming. Once we set the service was very good and fast. And now to highlight of the night the food. It was amazing! Flavorful and and above all fresh. If I had a dollar how many time I got sad vegetables in restaurants but not here. Everything was fresh and vibrant. Even the salsa the came with chips was next level delicious. Guacamole so good and creamy. Super recommend! Go! Now! Why are you still reading this? Lol

Yelp
From the moment we walked in we felt very welcomed. The manager, Our waiter, everyone here was friendly. They were saying hello, how are you, etc. This place still uses hand written tickets, has good traditional tex-mex, and refills of the perfect sweet tea kept coming!!

Larry T.

Yelp
Best breakfast in McKinney. Desayuno Ranchero. Great low carb breakfast. Only available on Saturday.

Megan S.

Yelp
Delicious food, friendly service, and authentic, welcoming ambience! I have been here twice now - once with coworkers and once with my teenage son, and both times I was truly blown away by how great this place is! We will be back.

Kristal W.

Yelp
I saw online they had their 30th anniversary so I wanted to give them a try. I've passed by this establishment many times but rarely saw a bunch of cars so I didn't think it would be good. I got the Daniela. It came with a beef burrito, cheese taco, cheese enchilada, guacamole, beans and rice. They brought out the burrito and guacamole first. I was confused by this. It had a little Ranchero sauce on it. I would give it a 5/10. It was a little bland for me. Everything else was really good. I know it said TexMex but it tasted authentic. The salsa was very good as well.

Keith W.

Yelp
Food was good, the tortillas and taco shells were excellent and house made. The service was good and friendly, service you would expect at a hole in the wall. Seemed like eating with your Mexican family. Only one or two beer options, which I don't mind. Adds to the atmosphere in my opinion. Food was premade like a lot of Mexican places do with the enchiladas. But some of food was cold.

Sue B.

Yelp
First time. Ate here based on reviews. We are self proclaimed officianados of salsa. Its the best We have ever had. Warm chips. Great tacos. Excellent friendly staff. Been there forever. Authentic. Don Julio. Amen.

Tryshia M.

Yelp
Ambiance- good Mexican style decor and design Service - good lots of attention we were there early Friday evening. Food- ok, fajitas were the best option on all our orders. Carne asada was tough, and the enchilada sauce was a sour tomatillo concoction. Unfortunately not my favorite. Portion size was good, and everything came out hot. It's Tex mex for sure.

Rick H.

Yelp
This place is very good. Everything I have tried, both lunch and dinner, has been amazing. Fresh, flavorful and served quickly. Salsa is good with a great heat. Chips are good.

Ruthanne R.

Yelp
It's fine. Seriously. Listen: the staff is great and super friendly. The space is clean and welcoming. However, the food wasn't super fresh. The flautas were near room temp. The rice WAS room temp. And it all came out a couple of minutes after ordering. At 6:30pm. On a Friday. Won't be back because I prefer food that wasn't clearly sitting out for a while before I ate it, but honestly, it wasn't BAD.

David D.

Yelp
The food if you pick from the lunch menu, the special menu on nights or weekends it's always fresh and delicious! You're never disappointed with anything, food , the staff and ambiance is great! I go there every chance I get , it beats chain restaurants hands down!

Maggie K.

Yelp
A traditional ambience with a hell good menu. Loved their house made fresh nachos and the salsa. The staff was amazing. Excellent service and outstanding delicious food. My husband got the veggie fajita(with corn tortillas) and I got a creamy chicken which was on specials. So the portions are pretty good and I shared mine with my little one. I truly enjoyed my plate which also had the rice and beans. The chicken was cooked in a creamy sauce along with some cheese which was perfect for the rice and beans. The plaza has enough parking space and is easily accessible.

Cynthia O.

Yelp
Food was great I especially enjoyed my chicken sour cream enchiladas Our service was very good . It was my birthday and they kindly let us have a cake Very good salsa too!

Caroline C.

Yelp
We visited this place for the first time on a Saturday afternoon and ordered the combo fajitas for two. There was no waiting to be seated and we received chips and salsa pretty quickly. That is where the good times ended. The salsa was mediocre and chips tasted store bought. The food came and it was extremely bland. The meat had no seasoning and the tortillas tasted store bought. Not a good experience. The reviews for this place were great and held 4 out of 5 stars. Not sure if we were there on an off day and usually I give a place a second chance. But this time I know we won't. Service was average. Staff was nice but that's not enough to overlook the lack of flavor in the food.

Mitch P.

Yelp
I have been coming here since I was maybe 5 or 6. Same owners, and I've never seen anything more consistent in my life. The food hasn't changed in over 30 years. It's still the same on the inside as it was back then, and it has been very well kept. I love this place so much. You cannot go wrong with anything on the menu.

Nancy D.

Yelp
Fantastic! Best Tex~Mex food ever. Celebrated every birthday and anniverery with Arturo fot the last forty years. Family owned, family operated. Loved the Bibi: beef taco, beef enchilada and a chicken enchilada plus plenty of chips with homemade salsa.

Nedal R.

Yelp
Good place great food nice people we've been there twice and will be back for more fajitas

Tanya D.

Yelp
The food is excellent due to the authentic recipes and superior sourced ingredients. The restaurateurs Arturo and Francisco are brothers from San Miguel. Be sure to get their specials such as Chicken in various sauces or steaks. Tex max dishes are also excellent. Picture of pollo w cilantro sauce

Ashley G.

Yelp
The queso is out of a can to go along with the chips out of a bag. Just horrible. If you are looking for AUTHENTIC Mexican food, this is not your place. We are Mexican and hoping for a great dinner after a long day. I just couldn't believe that the queso, chips, salsa and tortillas were store bought. And, not even from a good store. Should have gone to the La Michoacán across the street to purchase these items, if you aren't going to make them homemade. Only thing delicious was out $8 margaritas. So disappointing. Wouldn't return even if they comp the whole bill.

Jennifer M.

Yelp
We stopped by for lunch on a Wednesday, and had a fantastic lunch experience. The moment we walked in the door everyone was friendly and helpful. The very sweet owner, Arturo, came around to check on people at least once during the visit. The chips and salsa were excellent with a fairly spicy salsa that hit just right. My husband said it just might be his favorite ever, and the chips were clearly fresh with just the right crisp. We were there at lunch and both had lunch specials which were great and very reasonably priced. We also had an appetizer I can't recall the name of but was a cold dish with shrimp, cubed fish, tomatoes, red onions, and cilantro in a lime vinagrette-style dressing that was a perfect dish for the first cool day in many months (and would be a great cool-down in the summer). Wednesdays (as of this writing) are happy hour all day, so I snagged a margarita that was definitely not just made from a mix, so it wasn't as sugary as you often find. It was definitely strong for my small build, so bring a driver like I did. :) The seating was sectioned off into areas to provide a somewhat more intimate feel while still having some openness. And once more, it has to be said, the staff members from start to finish were all very friendly!

Jenna L.

Yelp
The others are right - the house ritas are LEGIT! Strong and cheap (especially the latter on Mondays and Wednesdays). I have always been a Patron rita girl, but took the house rita challenge, and now it's all I order. Worth it! The ritas also have a small, medium, and large option. The medium is quite big, so it's fun for all drinking quantity preferences! Tons of seating, super casual, and the staff is always nice. The owner remembered my fiancée and I the second time we visited (newbies to the area). Their salsa always tastes freshly made, and the food is very good. The queso could use improvement as it's subpar compared to most other places. The tres leches is ohhhhhh SO GOOD! It's a huge bonus they serve sopapillas since not all places do. It's a fun, local go-to place!

Krista L.

Yelp
Our family has been going to San Miguel's for decades. It is a treasure. It has consistently been amazing and by far one of the best restaurants in McKinney. Stop in for friendly service, refreshing margaritas, and some of the best fajitas and enchiladas you'll ever eat.

Ken T.

Yelp
Everything was solid. Don't think anything we got was bad, but nothing really stood out either. The tortilla chips were kind of addictive.

Candi M.

Yelp
My favorite place in McKinney. The people and the food are perfection. I've been coming here for 30 years and have never been disappointed.

David H.

Yelp
Yet another Mexican restaurant with mediocre food. Nice server, chip and salsa were good.

David S.

Yelp
Margarita's - The Tapatia which is top shelf patron was perfect! Everyone absolutely enjoyed their meal, me and my son shared fajitas chicken beef and shrimp. Wife had enchiladas! Family owned business and the owners make sure you are and have been taken care of. This is my 50th time to eat here lol since I moved to Princeton and have been satisfied with them every time!

Shelby M.

Yelp
Great Mexican food. Restaurant has been around for a long time and they always deliver great food.

Brian T.

Yelp
Please ignore the ludicrous review from Ashley G. She must have eaten somewhere else. The chips are made in house, the queso is not from a can and the salsa is made in house as well. It is based on a recipe that has been served in DFW for over 50 years. This is good old fashioned Tex-Mex that uses authentic chili con carne. The Sour Cream Chicken enchiladas are still the best around. Plus if you don't want Tex-Mex they serve several Mexico City cuisine items that are 1/3 of the price of Javier's in Highland Park and are just as good. Easily the best Tex Mex restaurant in the McKinney/Allen area bar none. Also, I know that with the new KungFlu restrictions they are limited mostly to take out. My suggestion is order the fajitas for the number of folks in your family and double the order. Go chicken and beef and you will be set for 2 dinners and 2 lunches the next day. Just make sure you eat the salsa quick because it is homemade and isn't full of preservatives so it is only good for about a a week.

Over L.

Yelp
Service is awesome, the food is amazing, and the price matches accordingly. Well done!

Sarah C.

Yelp
I understand the varied reviews of this restaurant because it really depends on what you order. I'm not a fan of their salsa verde sauce (too heavy on the tomatillo so it's a little sour) and I feel like chile con carne should not be an enchilada sauce option. Their flautas are absolutely amazing with a great crunchy texture and good seasoning on the chicken. I enjoy the tacos al carbon, so I assume the carne asada plate is just as good. Luckily you can order both of these things in a combination plate, the Frida. All the appetizers I've tried have been good, with the chicken nachos being very memorable. Service is very friendly and margaritas are strong. We'll definitely be back.

Kathleen H.

Yelp
We've been wanting to try this place, because we always see a ton of cars in the parking lot. We were very disappointed. We went on a Friday afternoon and it wasn't very busy yet. The man who sat us was nice, but service after that was really slow, we couldn't get anyone to check on us. The food was not good. We both got the chicken fajitas. The chicken was really chewy and didn't have any flavor. We couldn't finish it. The bean soup was good, but the rice was not. The chips and salsa was mediocre. They gave us one salsa, which we finished. Someone brought us more chips and left before we could ask for more salsa. We never could get someone to bring us more. Chips and salsa were definitely store bought, so not bad but not what we wanted. Clearly someone likes this place because it always looks busy, but it definitely wasn't for us. We won't be back.

Guy H.

Yelp
I am always looking for new places to eat with good food. When I noticed this place had average 4 stars I was hopeful. We entered into an average space decorated in that cheesy after thought Mexican resturant style. Ok no harm done lets get down to business. So, we ordered a plate with a chess enchilada, tamale, crunchy beef taco, rice and beans. I always judge a Tex mex place by their cheese enchilada with chili concarne. Chips and salsa were ok but nothing special and no heat. The food arrived looking unappealing lay average. The first bite of cheese enchilada revealed a flat gummy wanna be. Seems it was pre made and staked, maybe frozen and heated when needed. It was drenched in a bath of room temp chili con carne that again had little to no spice. The tamale was ok, taco passable, rice yes, beans runny. All in all if you are in McKinney and driving thru this area, why not. I mean they may have something you like. But if you are native Texan like me and know and want a high caliber of Tex mex then move on.

Michelle M.

Yelp
Always great food and service. Margaritas are on point and prices are fair. They're all like family!

Ben L.

Yelp
Brought the family here on the weekend for a late lunch. All of the staff was very friendly and welcoming. We had the queso con rajas as a starter which was very good and final prep is tableside. The chicken flautas were okay, nothing special but clearly made in house which is good. I had the chile relleno and there was some confusion on somebody's part. The menu said you could have picadillo or cheese. I ordered the picadillo, waitress said cheese, i repeated picadillo, she repeated cheese so i said yes, thinking she was asking if i wanted cheese on it. Well i got just cheese. Again, not bad, but nothing special. Beans and rice were about what you expect, borderline bland. Also had the tortilla soup and my grand daughter proclaimed it good. Three adults had six beers, three entrees, starter and soup as main, with tip came to close to $100. I personally felt it was overpriced but it's McKinney.

Christa M.

Yelp
Been here 5 or so times. First visit was the best...great steak fajitas for dinner. The margarita was very strong and tasted great. They have happy hour too, so that made it very cheap. Went during lunch for steak fajitas and they were tough. The flavor was completely different from the dinner steak. Went another time for dinner and the steak was better. I do NOT like that they put italian dressing on their taco salad. What??? It's not listed on the menu that way. The service was always good. They greet you at the door. You pay at the front

Asad S.

Yelp
Hidden gem! Outside looks subpar at best but walk in and it's authenticity is dripping of the walls GREAT MEXICAN FOOD AND STEAKS OMG Eat here You won't regret it The chef knows what he is doing.

Amy D.

Yelp
Service was great, everyone very friendly. Great choices. Pork was a little dry but seasoned so wonderfully, white cheese on beans loved. All the food and drinks were great! Will return without a doubt!

Debbie P.

Yelp
Good service friendly workers and good food! Nothing fancy about the place but I liked it for a quick local close place!

Mo A.

Yelp
San Miguel Grill is my first choice for Mexican food in McKinney. Their salsa is... Divine. Slightly chunky, fresh flavor, a bit more heat than most restaurants. Seriously good. Their food is excellent, try the chili relleno, or the chimichanga. You won't be disappointed! I love to go eat there thank you

Barbara N.

Yelp
We have been going there for many years and you can always count on friendly efficient service and good food.

Cappy P.

Yelp
Anyone who follows my reviews will recognize a 5 star would mean I've died and gone to heaven - 4 stars means I really, really, really like the place. Having said that, the first thing I noticed, and liked, about the San Miguel menu was that Tex-Mex is only a squared off portion of the whole menu. Not to say I don't like Tex-Mex but having grown up in San Diego and eaten in Mexico many time (not just in town but with families) Tex-Mex was not something I'd tried until moving to Texas. San Miguel is fine Mexican dining. I'm sure most of their customers really have not thought as much about it as I have, all they know is the cuisine is delicious. It starts with the salsa and continues through to the cinnamon ice cream. The orange pork knocks me out. Frijoles are not something the average diner thinks about but I've studied the art and I know good beans when I taste them. Love their beans. There is a black bean option as well. Nice atmosphere - great service - the owner puts a personal touch on your arrival and departure. Go on a weekend night and don't expect to be immediately seated. The wait is worth it. So there you have it - my take on the joint. For me, it is the highlight of McKinney. When I'm in the mood for Mexican dishes, if I'm not cooking them at home, I like the San Miguel Grill. Don't let the word "Grill" at the end mislead you. It is not a cafe - it is a serious, Mexican Restaurant. Ole!

Kerry O.

Yelp
Real Mexican food, not the over sauced cheap cheese food that a lot a places are serving around here, Not fancy but clean restaurant. Need to come back soon to try out their happy hour.

Carley W.

Yelp
Me and two others dined in hoping for good margaritas and quality service but were disappointed off the bat. The rocks marg was straight sweet & sour and the salt rim was table salt. The frozen margs had almost no taste to it. The server was quick to walk away after only taking ONE of our drink orders initially and had to call her back over to allow the other two accompanying me to order. The staff was nice, just very stand-offish.
