The location was hard to find parking. There is paid parking nearby, but as expected in NYC, it's pricey. The block that this hotel is on is surrounded by a lot of cool places to grab food and dessert. For the price of this hotel, it was very reasonable. The room was very comfortable, and the set up was adorable! Came here to stay the night with my boyfriend, celebrating his birthday. Breakfast was kind of lame, but it's better than nothing. They provide toast, store bought bagels, and Frosted Flakes. Overall, decent hotel experience. I would stay here again if I'm visiting NYC.

Stayed at the hotel for a long weekend. Place has a cute hipster vibe. The staff was outstanding. The room was well appointed. The location was steps away from Times Square, yet far enough away so the noise isn’t a factor. Full continental breakfast was included. Had dinner at the rooftop restaurant which was also outstanding. Will definitely book next time.

Sanctuary Hotel NYC - December Stay Review||||We stayed at the Sanctuary Hotel NYC for 7 nights in December. The location on 47th Street is fantastic, perfectly positioned between Times Square and Radio City Hall, making it easy to explore the city.||||We booked a standard king room, and initially, we were given a room on the 9th floor. Unfortunately, it was right next to the lift and directly beneath the rooftop bar lift, resulting in two sleepless nights due to constant noise. After requesting a room change, we were moved to a similar room on the 7th floor. While this was slightly quieter, there were still issues with noise from neighbouring rooms’ heating/aircon units and ongoing construction works outside. To make matters worse, I had to report the smell of cigarette smoke 2-3 times, likely coming from an adjoining room.||||The room itself was standard for NYC—small, with little space to store clothes or luggage, which made a week-long stay challenging. However, the decor was tasteful, and the room was cleaned daily. It included useful amenities like an iron, ironing board, and hairdryer, but the lack of storage was a drawback.||||Breakfast was included, offering a continental selection of pastries, cereal, toast, juices, tea, and coffee. While I didn’t try it, my husband said it was okay. Additionally, the hotel provides complimentary tea, coffee, and water in the reception area, available all day, which was a nice touch.||||The highlight of the stay was the staff, who were incredibly friendly, knowledgeable, and accommodating. They couldn’t be faulted and were always willing to help with any queries or requests.||||Overall, while the hotel’s location is excellent and the staff were outstanding, the noise issues, cigarette smoke, and limited room functionality detracted from the experience. Ideal for a short stay, but less suited for longer visits.

We were here the end of November for 1 night before our cruise. Staff were so lovely and extremely helpful I really enjoyed the breakfast room with a lot of choice. The Christmas music was lovely to listen to. The room was small with no window but very clean and we were not there to stay in the room. If and when we come back to NY I would not hesitate to stay here.

The staff was exceptional and went above and more from the moment we stepped out the car at arrival. DELVIS WAS TOP TIER!!! Friendly smile and a caring heart making our 1 night staff one of the most memorable experiences for my spouse and I. The manager even had a cold bottle of champagne ready that evening for my bday and a sweet note with coupons. Devis helped get our luggage stored while we waited on check in and then helped get them to the room when we returned from a wonderful long tired exciting day. The room was amazing and cozy with a view that let us here church bells! From recommendations to just helping us find the correct subway was easy with him and the rest of the staff. We will be visiting again soon and hope we are met with the same staff. 5 stars definitely for us

This hotel is fantastic! It is the perfect location. A quick walk to Bryant park, Rockefeller, today show, etc. Every employee I met really went above and beyond for any question I had. Like googling things on their own phones to find me yogurt at 10pm. Especially the bellman! Rooms see cute and spacious for NYC. I stayed with my Elementary aged daughter and everyone was great with her. The lobby is nice but still very cozy. Would love to stay with my husband one day.

Location is good rooms are ok but honestly I have to give 5 star for the service and employees! Such a good customer service every delivery I had they brought up no questions and my laundry and everything I need they took care of it right away. The housekeeping and everything I need for that I put 5 stars.🥰🥰 The rooms are ok they listened to customers probably saying about the bathroom that is transparent so they added curtains which is more convenient if you’re two people in the room.

The Sanctuary Hotel lives up to its name. It's a gorgeous and inviting space that feels like a luxurious, lively retreat in the middle of the loud city. The interior is stunning, with fireplaces, dark woods, and rich crimson accents that give it a cozy, yet sultry vibe. The staff was incredibly helpful from the moment I arrived, with a doorman welcoming me and someone carrying my bags up to my room. They even gave me a courtesy cocktail at check-in, which was such a lovely touch. The room itself was surprisingly spacious for Manhattan, even though the view was just of the roof next door. The shower in the bedroom, separated by a privacy curtain, was such a sleek and smart use of space. I also got to live my Kevin McAllister best life thanks to the mini bar fridge that you open with an actual key. It's such a simple, silly thing but it made me smile. The saucy decor, with its dark colors, cheeky privacy door hanger, and flirty artwork on the walls, added so much personality to the stay. On top of all that, my room was quiet and incredibly comfortable, which can be hard to find in such a busy city. Its location is perfect too, well within walking distance of all the touristy spots I wanted to hit up. Without a doubt, this was a great spot.

This was a fantastic hotel! The staff is all helpful and nice. They have breakfast, cleaning services, and laundry available. It's very clean and secure. It's quiet nearly all the time. It's a block away from Times Square and close to train stations and plenty of good restaurants.

1'2023 Perfect experience!! Location! Location! Location! This hotel shines bright like a diamond from the street. Pretty exterior, handsome doorman. You can't miss the place. Super fast and detailed check in experience. The young guy that checked us in was kind, respectable and had the answer to all my questions. The décor was a little dark. Perhaps romantic. Room super small, yet perfect. I had a Superior Queen. All of this was a surprise for hubby and he loved every bit. The room was so nice and cozy. Beautiful chandelier, great layout, window overlooking the city, quality toiletries, etc. Clean space, nice size tv w plenty of viewing options, easy to use thermostat, closet space, etc. The hotel itself had great food and beverage amenities. I had a wonderful wonderful stay here at Sanctuary and I will certainly stay again !! Highly recommend!!

Outstanding staff!! Especially the morning front desk, but everyone was wonderful and it helped make for an exceptional first visit to New York.

What a wonderful find! I loved the aesthetic of this hotel, the staff, the restaurants, the breakfast, the complimentary herbal tea! This hotel is so centrally located and just has a cool modern energy, Haven was a great place for brunch. Our fed was very comfortable and cozy and o loved the chandelier. The staff was able to make some great recommendations and we see the Rock center Christmas tree on the very last day! This is my new go to hotel in NYC

Comfortable room, decent breakfast included. Room (like most in midtown Manhattan) on the snug/cozy side. Staff friendly and helpful, well located. Street noise level can be high (not the hotel's fault, obviously)

Wi-Fi didn't work, room took forever to be ready, incorrect times on menus in the room. Staff not very friendly or apologetic about issues, especially long wait for room.

We spent a few days after Christmas in NYC and were pretty disappointed with the Sanctuary. The entire hotel is dark and the hallways are narrow. The rooms are very small, bed and pillows were uncomfortable, and the TV was old with an On Demand feature that did not work. Our room had a window that looked directly into another wall. The bathroom is separated from the bedroom by a curtain. The breakfast is really below par - Bagels, toasted waffles, cereal and hard boiled eggs. The Haven rooftop restaurant was not great. I ordered salmon and mashed potatoes that was served cold. There is a small fitness room in the basement that has new equipment but just a single treadmill, elliptical, Peloton bike and weight machine. On the positive side, the location is convenient to theaters, plenty of hot water in the rain shower, and the staff was kind and helpful. However, that's not enough to overcome the negatives. I will not be going back again.

Sanctuary hotel is in the perfect location: right in the heart of times square. The vibe is very dark and sexy. This hotel screams night out with the girls or a great couples weekend. My friend and I stayed in the double bed room on the 2nd floor. We did encounter an issue when we arrived. Check in was supposed to be at 3 and when we arrived at that time, we were told that the room wouldn't be ready until 40 minutes later. So we ended up storing our bags and coming back. The staff were very friendly, shout out to Liam for being so kind to us. The room itself was very cozy but dark. If you like dark intimate hotels this one is what you want. The beds were super comfy as were the pillows. I disliked though the fact that there were no windows. We had no natural light whatsoever so it felt a bit insulated. Everything was clean in the room but you definitely could tell it was an older building. The hotel has two restaurants that are apparently very popular! There was a line of people who walked in off the street to have dinner. I will say it's a little awkward because to get to your room you have to walk past all these people waiting just to get to the elevator in the back. Best part of our stay was the complimentary breakfast delivered to our room in the morning. That was a very nice touch!

This hotel was promising. I got there way before check-in and was going to ask if I could just drop my bag. To my surprise the front desk was beyond helpful and allowed me to check in early. Awesome. There was commotion amongst the staff about someone who apparently had just been banned from the property. I thought nothing of it. The room is exactly what is in the picture. That's it. Not an a millimeter more. Fine. Typical for NYC. I was in an interior room which looked out on a literal brick wall. Also typical for Nyc. It made me feel like I was staying in a tomb. Despite this, the vibe was cool and it was clean so I didn't care. They pride themselves on their exclusive restaurants. So next morning I went to the concierge to ask where the restaurant was located. Before answering my question he snapped "there is a dress code". Exceptionally off-putting. It was also 11am and I had just gotten back from walking Central Park. Anyone with a brain would assume I would be going to this "haven" (it's called haven) for dinner but apparently letting me know I was not up to dress code was more important than answering my actual question which was where the damn place was. I honestly think the guy thought I was coming in off the street and not a hotel guest but nevertheless it felt shitty and I went back to my room feeling like I must look like a slob. (I did not...) Fast forward to later in the day when I was now really curious about what must be a truly posh fancy exclusive haven.... So I found it on my own. And you better believe I was in the damn dress code! I walked in and was immediately accosted by two hostesses who must have thought I was the paparazzi crashing a VIP event bc they were quick to jump all over me and demand my reservation. After explaining to one of them I was just looking another one jumped on me not ten feet from the first. Fine. Whatever. Be exclusive. Protect your guest (I was a guest!!!!) On some level I appreciate this. But after the shitty comment at the concierge desk earlier in the day and now not one - but two - hostesses on my ass I gave up. It made me think about the commotion I saw when i was checking in and whether or not that banned guest had actually done anything wrong....... It was just all too pretentious for its own good. Here I was - a paying guest - and I felt like I was being watched the entire time like I was trying to sneak in or steal something. Not a great vibe. At all. For what's it's worth, the Haven did not look worth it at all. There are a million other rooftops with dj's in the city that have a way cooler vibe. This felt like a Chilies on a roof. The breakfast that is included in the resort charge (which is the biggest scam of all time) is the same bland continental breakfast they serve at Holiday Inn Express. Actually Holiday Inn Express is better. They have those awesome cinnamon rolls. Sanctuary does not. Also, for being so posh and exclusive they serve everything on paper plates. There are two elevators. One was out for a portion of my stay. Not great in NYC. With all the options in NYC I'll stay somewhere else next time. Somewhere where I'm valued as a paying customer and not pounced on every time I attempt to use the hotel amenities.

Had a wonderful staff. We flew in from Seattle on a red eye. Arrived around 9am and while our room was not ready they did offer to hold our bags and got us coffee..which was very nice. This location is perfect for walking everywhere. Staff is super friendly. There is a sushi bar i the lobby as well as another bar off to the left. Buffet breakfast is served in the morning which was good. The rooms are on the small side, but it's NY city after all...and we never spent much time in the room except to crash, shower and start all over.

I've stayed at 5+ different hotels in NYC Manhattan area, in different neighborhoods as well. This one is my best pick thus far, in terms of quality. It's located in Times Square near all the tourist attractions. The check in hostess was really friendly, and also gave my toddler a Sanctuary teddy bear. My daughter, to this day, sleeps with it in her arms. The lobby area has water, coffee, and tea which was nicely organized and frequently replenished. The brunch in the morning was simple, as I've expected, with toast, cereal, pastries, fruits, yogurt, coffee, and orange juice. There was only 1 kind of cereal, but there were different choices of jams. It was a self service and there were busboy or servers during the day(?) who cleaned up plates from the tables. Our rooms were upgraded to King Deluxe and Queen Deluxe. It was very spacious and I love the modern shower. The King Deluxe was large enough to have a roll away bed. It's most spacious hotel I've had in NYC. There're 2 elevators with a button for each of them. I saw lines of people for the elevator but I think it was for the roof top bar which I didn't get to visit. Must be popular! If I visit NYC again for touring, I'd definitely pick this hotel again.

Please note - I did not stay at Sanctuary, but have visited their establishments a few times. I didn't want to hurt Haven or Sushi Lab with a low star rating, so sorry, had to add this review for the hotel. I'm sorry, but the tall, very loud, white guy who works the front door is super, super aggressive. He clearly clings to this one form of authority he has and uses it to intimidate people who aren't in love with the way he communicates. He threatened to cancel my reservation, which I Iaughed at and told him he could not / would not do. Indeed, he did not follow through with this empty threat. Anyway, I kind of hesitate to make more reservations here just so I can continue to avoid this guy.

Love the vibe and feel of the place. I was a guest for a 3 night mid-week business trip. Very cozy room. Easily the smallest room I have stayed in but also really comfortable and well laid out so I didn't mind. It also helped that the person servicing my room "W Ladzha" did a great job keeping things tidy which made the room feel that much more spacious. Sanctuary will be on my short list for future stays in mid-town.

I stayed at the Sanctuary hotel this past weekend with my mother because we were finally seeing Hamilton: The Musical and we were very happy about it! I booked this hotel because the location was excellent! It was close to the theater district and Times Square. The reviews were good. Also I was interested in going to their rooftop restaurant. I checked in Friday, around 10 am. Upon coming in, I was told they had no rooms ready but to check around 1 pm. After waiting for about two hours, around noon, I asked at front desk if they had any rooms ready and the man there gave me the good news that there actually was a room available on the 6th floor. The room had a decent view since it's higher up. You can see the church next door and some of the street below. The room was small, the bathroom was small. It was tight at first but we got used to it and made it work. The counter space for the bathroom is really tight. There was only space for one towel to hang in the bathroom. The shower is right in the room and has a curtain instead of a door for privacy. The shower felt really good. I definitely enjoyed the shower a lot. The bed was also very comfortable. I thought the hotel was very quiet. I didn't hear people next to me or in the halls. I only heard the usual noise in the morning outside of the hotel from construction but that's normal for Manhattan. The staff was as accommodating as they could be. I really loved having the doormen there. I wish every hotel outside of New York had this. The front desk accommodated my requests as far as early check in. My only complaint was that I thought the free breakfast delivery thing to the room was kind of annoying and communication was a bit off. When I checked in, I was not told what time they would be delivering the food. I wasn't asked what my food restrictions/preferences were. Nothing. So the next day at 7 AM, I heard a knock for breakfast. Well, I wasn't ready to eat breakfast at 7 AM. I didn't even know they were coming at that time. They delivered coffee and orange juice. Neither my mom or I drink OJ in the morning. Also by the time I was ready to eat my breakfast, the coffee was cold of course. And there's no microwave in the room. So I had to call front desk and ask them to bring up the coffee and tea. I didn't want to feel like an inconvenience to them but it seemed kind of like I was. I would've rather made the coffee and tea myself. I wish they had some sort of bar downstairs to do that but I guess with Covid they don't allow it? Anyway, about 20 min later they did bring it up, which was nice of them. I tried to request with morning shift and night shift about bringing breakfast an hour later. Unfortunately with the time change on Sunday this weekend, housekeeping still brought it at 7 am. But the good news was that breakfast was delivered and the muffins were very good. The rooftop restaurants, Haven Restaurant and Sushi Lab, which are located at the top of their hotel, were fabulous! I had a nice time at both. The sushi was fantastic at sushi lab! Nice customer service too. Beautifully decorated. Haven was fun too. Same, beautifully decorated. I will also say that the Sanctuary hotel's lobby was nicely decorated. It was a dark, sensual vibe that I'm sure took a lot of time to complete for the developers. I enjoyed the different Buddhist statues throughout the hotel.

I was so impressed with this hotel! The rooms are surprisingly quiet given the proximity to Times Square. The location couldn't be beat--just steps from several subway lines and the best of Broadway--and the amenities were wonderful. The bed was deliciously comfortable, and my Standard Queen room was a very liveable size, which is a rarity in New York. Another lovely touch was the photography that lined the hallways: gorgeous, atmospheric photos from Tibetan monasteries. Sanctuary indeed! The free breakfast included a generous spread of hot and cold options, and when I mentioned my gluten allergy, a staff member was happy to provide me with bacon and sausage that hadn't touched bread and some gluten-free toast. The miso soup at the sushi bar was the best I've ever had, though I was disappointed when I was informed that all of the special sushi sauces had gluten, even though the restaurant offered gluten-free soy sauce. The staff is wonderful, too--warm, eager to help, and well-informed. Overall, I'm very happy with my stay here! I have a new go-to hotel in NYC.

DO NOT STAY IN THIS HOTEL!!!!! I GOT FOOD POISONING, management refused to do anything!!!!!! My wife and I checked in last night and was so excited to spend a few days in the city exploring/sightseeing. I have CANCER, and a few other major health problems so I don't get out much. This hotel looked beautiful online and the reviews about service seemed great. We ordered room service which totaled to $90 and included rock shrimp when we got into the room. I had only had a bagel for breakfast so was excited to eat. I ate some of the chicken strips but ate all of the shrimp and my wife ate her burger and none of my shrimp. About 1 hour later I woke up projectile vomiting and a few mins later had to go on the shower because I had diarrhea at the same time. This lasted all night. I'll spare all the details but I thought I was going to die. My wife called downstairs to ask for ginger ale saying I had good poisoning and they sent that up but no management called to ensure I was ok. The next day we were on the phone for 3 hours going back and forth. Essentially The food and beverage supervisor (Who said nothing was wrong with the shrimp it was fresh and no one else complained, but comped our bill after I refused to pay for it. She was unapologetic and honestly made me cry of frustration/sadness this was happening to me). The GM of the hotel Keith, refused to have hotel tonight credit us our stay even though we said we would CHECK OUT and go to a hospital or drive back home (who wants to pay $400 to sit sick in a hotel in the city?!) HE REFUSED TO DO ANYTHING BESIDES SEND UP WATER. He said room service was separate management and that was that. I've never experienced something like this, and I'd encourage anyone reading this: TAKE YOUR BUSINESS ELSEWHERE AND SAVE YOUR HEALTH!!! Instead of suing for endangering my health/pain and suffering or disputing the charge on my CC, this review will suffice.

We stayed for one night at Sanctuary and while the place was nice on the inside, our room was small and we barely had any light in the room. Our window was facing a brick wall and the toilet in the bathroom ran all night. The customer service at the front desk was deplorable. The worker was very dismissive. We also had thought we would be getting free breakfast but apparently we had to notify them the night before. When we checked in no one told us this!! They didn't provide any water or anything in the mini bar in the room. The makeup light in the bathroom wasn't working. There was also mosquitos flying in the room. We requested for the toilet to be fixed and they said the maintenance guy isn't here in Saturday's however they did send someone up (one of the cleaning staff). Needless to say I will not be staying here again. The location is great though! Super close to Times Square.

My room was sadly very tiny, but the bed was one of the coziest I've been in. I truly can't stop thinking about how comfortable it was. The design of the room definitely makes a statement, the shower was definitely not lacking in power, the staff was very helpful, and there are a lot of great food options. The only thing I would change is getting a bigger room, but 5 stars for comfort.

Only giving 2 stars because the doorman Leonard made my family's stay pleasant. He was kind and attentive! My family felt comfortable knowing he'd take care of us. I hope they're taking good care of him because otherwise, I was not too impressed.

Think Speakeasy and Red Light District. That is what the red dark decor reminded me of. My room size was consistent with NY, except for the fact that the bathroom was part of the bedroom with curtains to conceal, if needed. I was on the 9th floor so the music from the Haven Rooftop sipped through my windows. The air conditioning was also very loud. Positives: Great location and decent breakfasts. Still undecided if I will come back.

Good morning My name is Lorraine Carpio, Glady's Carpio it was my mother 81st birthday and I must said I had such amazing experience staying one night at The Sanctuary Hotel. Eddie at the front desk I told it was my bday he send up a cake for my mom thank you so much Eddie for your accommodations. My mother and I will be staying there soon again.....Overall I am very impress at the fact it was in the heart of Times Square not as nosey as I taught it would be. So happy!!! that we stayed at the hotel.

In short... there's better options.... In longggg.... well this is not my first stay at Sanctuary. I have stayed a handful of times "pre- COVID" and always had a decent experience. A few mishaps but overall decent. This past time stay "intra- COVID" was just terrible. I arrived around 10:30am... Well aware that checkout begins at 3 I was prepared to leave my bags and trot the city per usual. As soon as we arrived the front desk associate Jimmy stated that our rooms should be ready by 3 but they may not be. I just said ok however I was thinking since my friend and I arrived early our room should be one of the first ready. Our day progressed and I called at 2:45 to check the status of the room, I was told it would be completed by 3:15. We gave them extra time and 4pm rolled around. I called and spoke to manager Eddy who stated our room was just cleaned... Ok. If you stay here don't make early dinner reservations because you will be SOL (if you know what that means) Anyways... they offer a complimentary free breakfast... now like I stated I have stayed her many times before the complimentary free breakfast used to consist of fresh juices, cereals, pastries, eggs, bacon, sausage, fruits. It was basic but enough. Now due to COVID they deliver breakfast to your room. We were told we would have an option to pick what we wanted but that was a boldface lie... we were give "whatever the kitchen had left" style food. Cut up and thrown into boxes. Cold waffles and no protein whatsoever. Terrible. When we called the front desk the gentleman was extremely rude to my friend like rude for no reason. Uncalled for.... Lastly this hotel is under construction .... they DO NOT tell you this online which I hate but I get it's a business but not OK. Paper everywhere and tape. Lights not working in the rooms... a mess. I won't stay here again so many other options in the area. Keep your free breakfast we don't want it. It's clear this hotel has not adjusted well to the pandemic. There's other places to spend your money and receive better service

The bed was really comfortable. Not a big fan of the shower head but the shower and room was nice over all. If your not a fan of church bells this is the wrong place to be but the location is great and the hotel is very nice and has great customer service. I had a big problem with the extremely cloudy water though. I couldn't even brush my teeth with the sink water.

My bestfriend and I traveled here to celebrate my 30th birthday and here's how it went... This hotel has gone downhill quite a bit. First off it's under construction and you won't know that until you get here. So the normal aesthetic has been replaced brown paper flooring and brown paper wallpaper. (Mind you the prices are the same). So here we go, we got here at 10:20am, we were told we would be notified when the room was ready as check in would be at 3pm. We called at 2:45pm to get a update on the status of our checkin and we were told that the room would be ready around 3-3:15pm. After not receiving a call by 3:50pm we decided to call and check on the status of our room again. After being left on hold for almost 20 minutes, we were told the room was cleaned "13 mins ago". So we headed back to the hotel check in. The rooms were nice and the beds were a decent size but that's probably the only plus here. The light in the bathroom has a high pitch clicking noise that resembles somone typing on a typewriter that won't turn off until you turn the light off. So it's noise or darkness--your pick. This hotel is not ready to accommodate guests. There was No water in the entire hotel--we had to go out in the middle of the night to Times Square to look for water. And as females that was more than alarming and unsafe to have that as our only option for hydration. Due to covid we were told we would get breakfast delivered to our door and my friend that stayed here before had a good experience previously with their buffet so we were excited about that and looking forward to some options. (The front desk clerk said we would get eggs and a combination of something else like potatoes and orange juice). However the breakfast was underwhelming. We instead received 2 cold waffles and scone. (No protein--just carbs) and two coffees with one Splenda to share -_-. When I called down I was told and I quote "again--those were "examples of what you could get" and when I asked if we could Atleast get hot waffles I was told the kitchen was closed so no. (See pics attached) We understand that hotels are operating at minimum capacity (not taking as many guests) however that can no longer be an excuse for poor service and subpar experiences after we have been in this pandemic for over a year. I wouldn't recommend staying here and spending your hard earned money. There's much cheaper hotels with better service in the area...they try to advertise the breakfast as the crown jewel. But save your calories and go across the street to Times Square diner you won't be disappointed. This was far from a sanctuary.

Professionalism of the staff need revision, manager need better customer service skills! Front desk lady with an accent is rude. Free Breakfast is disgusting and super cheap for 350$ a night.

Good place to stay in New York and also centrally located close to Times square. Room was somewhat small but clean. Haven rooftop bar is an added plus. They are associated with one of the parking garages nearby and you can park overnight for 40$. Only stayed here for one night, can't say much else. Breakfast was included and was pretty good. They also have a sushi restaurant in the hotel but didn't get to try it out. Overall good experience, only wish they didn't impose so many taxes and fees (amounted to 50$ by itself). Check out is at 12pm.

My god! Terrible service, AND very disrespectful. I understand it can be hectic in the city but the front desk literally changed his word about our rooms three times! Additionally when the front desk was called out on it, he threatened, yes threatened to cancel our reservation and leave us roomless/hotel less at 10pm in New York City with a toddler! Completely did not appreciate the threatening demeanor. Very unnecessary for a service that we paid full price for. They also completely overcharged us on the rooms that were already prepaid for! Be careful! They have so many hidden random fees (not even counting the resort fee, which is a joke because they don't even have a lobby to sit etc). The hotel and workers were very demeaning and one can even say, discriminatory because we saw how they talked to the other guests. I'm shocked. They also lie on their site that they have a gym but they don't. I'm so shocked at how fraudulent this hotel is. Ps, good luck with their complimentary "breakfast" it's a sad little box. One morning they didn't even bring our breakfast even tho we nicely called them to set it up the night before and followed up three times in the morning. We finally went downstairs to ask and the manager was terribly rude and condescending. I also got bed bug bites :/ I have no idea where their random high ratings come from.

The Sanctuary is perfectly located near all the Broadway theaters. My room was clean, comfortable, and stylish - even came with a complimentary continental breakfast! Every staff member I encountered was friendly and helpful. I look forward to returning here on future NYC visits. Note: when I returned home, I realized I left some belongings in my room. The hotel staff graciously recovered them for me and shipped them to me. Terrific service!

Had a much needed staycation with a friend at The Sanctuary Hotel this week. It was clear safety was top of mind yet it still felt comfortable. The staff was extraordinarily friendly. The beds were so comfortable and the meals I had at Haven Rooftop for dinner and Sushi Lab Rooftop for lunch were delicious.

My fiance and I just stayed here for 3 nights. Every low starred rating you see on yelp is all true. The one star is for the friendly cleaning lady on our floor and smiles that the staff gave to us. Building is under renovation. We were told we'd get breakfast with coffee and tea, but they never gave it to us at all. We still had to pay the $25 nightly hotel that was supposed to cover the breakfast as well. The WiFi is spotty and does not work well. All in all, don't waste your money here paying for the renovation and lack luster service.

Update: I revisited this hotel earlier this year in March. What a drastically different experience! I lowered my rating because the first time I went it truly was phenomenal, but the second time I went it was progressively worse and this last time, I went with my boyfriend, it was it was not great at all. The service was bad, the front desk people unpleasant, and one guy in particular (I wish I could remember his name) was so mean and rude ---he actually argued with me on the phone and I ended up hanging up on him. This is the third time I've stayed there and so much just went downhill. Even the rooms didn't look the same (like missing decor like flowers and pictures on the walls or something... I don't know). It was a sad version of what once was and I hope they come back from it. I was embarrassed I had raved about it to my boyfriend since this was his first time here. I hope that horrible awful mean ugly jackass of a guy that sounds like he's unleashed his awful disposition on the likes if many gets a job some place else, and finds happiness, and that they start hiring nice people again. They can keep the cold breakfast in a box, it was not worth it -soggy cold waffles and whatever else it was was not worth the time spent, the materials used and the effort it took to make it. Overall I would not recommend this hotel anymore, but I'm hoping it gets better again.

Truly a sanctuary - you will experience it when you walk in the lobby... it's the quietest hotel I've ever stayed at in NY. The rooms are cozy and clean and the free breakfast in the morning is fabulous. What struck me right away was the personal service. From the minute I arrived, whether it was the staff at the front desk (they carefully instructed me exactly where to purchase a winter jacket close by) or Douglas at the front door, they were always right there for me with exceptional service. Even Georgio the GM had time to walk me to my uber and carry my bag. I have never had this good an experience at a hotel in NYC.

I'm completely baffled by the stellar reviews of this place. I stayed here for two nights on a business trip and booked here since the reviews were so good. I knew right away I had made a mistake when I stepped into the elevator. While the lobby had a very chic and modern look, when I got into the elevator I could tell this was a very old building. The elevator was extremely slow and small. When I got to my floor, I could hear very distinct sounds from every single occupied room so I knew that sound would be an issue. When I got into the room, I did a quick inspection of the room and I saw hair strands on the pillows and bedsheets. The bed did not even have a top sheet and the blanket looked very old and had stains on it. There were stains on the blanket, bedsheet and pillows. It was disgusting since I'm really particular about my sleeping quarters. I immediately went downstairs and asked for another room which they gave. When I went into my new room, the bed was not much better. Less hair but still dirty, stained blankets and sheets. I gave up at this point and just slept with a lot of clothes on. The a/c didn't work very well and I could hear everyone walking through the hallway. The lounges were nice here but I won't stay in the rooms again.

Can't say enough about this place. The service is impeccable. Tons of staff. They are so accommodating. The room was a typical tiny manhattan hotel room but very comfy and chic. We loved the roof top "Haven" too. The hotel is soo quiet for midtown Manhattan. The restaurant Tender is beautiful and the food was amazing. I had a chicken dish that was so tasty. The room was reasonable and included a continental breakfast. It's conveniently located near the theatre district. We walked 2 blocks to see a show on a whim. Perfect weekend.

I loved our time there. The location was fantastic while still being quiet at night. Rooms are typically small but very well thought out, well appointed and the bed was so comfortable. The staff were beyond kind and friendly. You could tell they had a real commitment to professional hospitality- every interaction was so helpful! We would come again in a heartbeat.

I really wish I could have given this place 5 stars. It definitely has the potential. Front desk staff very nice and attentive. However, my issue mainly rises with the fact that housekeeping doesn't leave you alone. I payed a good chunk of money to stay here and atleast expect to get some SLEEP. Do not disturb sign that clearly says "Ssshhhh" was constantly hung up on our door every morning so we could sleep in, considering allll the walking/sight seeing we did was tiring. But housekeeping ignored this sign every morning and knocked not ONCE but 3 times. What the hell? Then the morning of check out, it's 10am as we are packing our bags and housekeeping knocks twice. We tell them we are packing and to come back, and the woman responds "are you checking out" whaaaat? Check out is 12pm and she knocked and said this at 10am. Downright rude. Next time, I will stay at a Marriott.

The hotel was nice and the decor was beautiful however upon our arrival the hotel stated they didn't have soap nor did they have any alternative options. In the middle of Times Square and during the time of covid this seems as it would be something of importance. Breakfast was not delivered to the room and was much later than the time requested due to issues in the kitchen. Overall overpriced for not so great service.

Staff is friendly and restaurant/ rooftop bar is quite nice. Room service was also fairly priced and tasty. However, this is not ideal for travel. The lobby area is always packed due to lines for restaurant guests to go up to the rooftop bar. There is only one elevator and the rooms aren't as large as others in the Times Square area. I booked this due to the 'free breakfast' option which is almost unheard of at this price point - but a tiny bit disappointing. Breakfast consisted of coffee/ juice, cereal, toast, and pastry. Other items are also available with additional cost. The prices are fair but that's not free!

Avoid this hotel. Their reservation system does not work, staff is unhelpful, and the rooms are small and creepy. The bathroom is inside the bedroom separated by a curtain. The curtain does not even close completely so one part of the bathroom is always exposed. I called the hotel to book by phone but they could not match the rate online and they told me to book online. I was also provided incorrect information by phone about aaa discounts. I booked online through the hotel website (not a third party site) and received a confirmation email and confirmation number. However my credit card had not been charged. We arrived at the hotel and was told that our room was not available and their system had not updated to reflect the confirmation. I told them my card was not charged so perhaps there was an issue with the reservation but I was assured there was no issue and that the card would just be charged at check in. We were asked to come back later. 12 hours later we returned, only to find that the room was not available and they still did not find our confirmation in their system. They only had smaller rooms available and could not give us a better rate. They did give us the rate we had expected to pay for a king deluxe room, but for a queen room. Unfortunately it was 2am so we did not have a choice. The day shift neglected to communicate the issue with the night shift. The night shift apparently has no manager and no staff capable of addressing any issues or customer concerns. They told us to just stay here tonight and that management will take care of everything tomorrow morning and make things right. We finally agreed because it was 2am. I then looked on their website and saw that the room they were "giving" us for $205 was available for $177. When we asked them to adjust the rate, we were told it was too late and there was nothing they could do but they would let managers know in the morning. They proudly tout their STAR (service tailored to any request) managers but they are unhelpful. I'm shocked that this hotel has been reviewed as highly as it has, because it has been a terrible experience with constant miscommunication/unhelpfulness (perhaps even lies) from the start. The staff were unable to help address even basic customer issues (such as refunding $28 that they overcharged us). Poorly run, tiny rooms (even for nyc standards), and staff unwilling or unable to help. The toilet ran all night and it was loud because well, it's basically inside the bedroom. Save yourself the aggravation, go to one of the hundreds of other hotels in the city. There are a lot of choices. This one is not worthy of consideration (and definitely not of your money). We were told to just stay the night and it would get worked out in the morning and made right. Well that did not happen so either. After some arguing, they ultimately agreed to refund us $10. They claimed we were in a queen deluxe so the price for that should be more. If that's a deluxe room, i can't imagine what a standard room is like. The staff wanted me to show them the online price for the night before - how am I supposed to have that information? They said a screen shot would be helpful. I did not have one. I cannot go back in time to get one. I showed them tonight's online rate (which matched what I said it was the night before) but they said it may have been different last night and they needed proof. Only after some arguing did they agree to a $10 refund. After the fiasco, the room should have been comped or at least significantly discounted. Don't get suckered and taken advantage of. At least the place was not dirty. They did waive the nonsense facility fee at least, which is basically $26 for a cup of coffee in the lobby that should be complimentary away. We did not stay the second night as had been planned and decided to go to another hotel.

My husband and I had a great stay at this elegant and beautiful hotel. Nancy at the front desk was a standout and she helped us get a great room for my husbands birthday celebration. Every staff member that we encountered at the hotel was very friendly and helpful. The room was very nicely decorated. The rooftop lounge was great as well. The bed wasn't very comfortable as the mattress was soft and had some depressions in it. The A/C would go off and on which made it a little warm in the overnight hours. Overall, these were minor issues and we had a really great time at this hotel.

Great hotel and staff. They are very accommodating. Door men are very nice and helpful.

"Black as midnight on a moonless night." Twin Peaks I wake in the darkness and think of the Red Room in Twin Peaks. Doors are red. Red stripes are in the carpet. You will find more red in the hallways. This is the hotel to be in to visit Times Square or the Theatre District. It's an easy walk. Place is very swanky. We were upgraded to the largest king room. :-) Double pane windows keep out a good amount of noise. We were facing the street on the 4th floor and heard the muffled sounds of horns and sirens in the night. Mini fridge was unusable as it was stocked with over priced drinks for sale. Free wi-fi had hi latency. According to dslreports.com : Bufferbloat testing disabled due to high latency of 458ms speed was 1.68M down .65M up. Chair and desk was very comfy as were the bed and pillows. There is no ice machine so I had to call the front desk for delivery anytime I wanted some. Quality of the ice was excellent. Clear cubes with no flavor. I loved the shower. It had the normal shower head plus a side wand you can detach from the wall. Big 1080P tv had an hdmi port you could connect your laptop to. There is a free continental breakfast at the hotel restaurant. I tried the danish and cinnamon roll. The fruit flavor and cinnamon were present but the pastry had a dull flavor. Reminds me of those free pastries they have at important work meetings when the higher ups are feeling generous. I'm told the coffee is good. Staff here were nice and made for a pleasant stay. A welcoming Carol Burnett poster, autographed books, and audio books was arranged in the room. I'll miss peering out the window and seeing what's going on outside. It's much more exciting than at home.

Made an impromptu trip to the city after a weekend conference in Baltimore. Being that I was celebrating an anniversary I figured it would be nice to celebrate in New York City. For obvious reasons most people do not drive in the city but I already had a rental booked for my conference so I took it to the city. Selected this hotel, pictures looked cute, affordable, and it had parking for $40 a night. Not bad. When we arrived to the city, the hotels parking lot was unavailable and they suggested we park at a neighboring lot. A lot that cost $70 for the overnight. Already off to a bad start. Checked in to the hotel, with my service animal in its travel carrier. When I took him out for a "business walk" I received a call from the front desk saying they didn't notice we had a dog with us and said they would charge $150 or if it was a service animal I could show them certification - which is illegal under ADA. They charged $198. I wanted to enjoy my weekend and not stress out about this so I called my doctor to appease them, but being that it was Labor Day weekend I could not get through. The hotel called the next day and continued to ask for documents. Hours later, the woman at the front desk asked again. After dinner that night, the young man at the front desk said he didn't noticed the dog being sneaked in earlier in a very sarcastic tone. Constant harassment. The dog was not sneaked in, he was in a carrier. It would be impossible to sneak a dog in, when it needs to go on a few walks per day to take care of their business. The hotel cannot demand papers and will definitely be pursuing this matter. Aside from that, I asked the door boy for a location where I could find grass to walk the dog, he mumbled something and turned around and left me talking to myself. Overall, not the best experience.

I'm freezing. Why am I freezing? Because it's 20-something degrees outside and I had to open all my windows and turn off the heater. Why would I be such an idiot and do that? Because, when the heater blows, it blows an ashtray through my vents. Someone is smoking heavily and the (very friendly) staff said the bellman checked and the only room it seems to be coming from is mine. Well, I don't smoke, but my room smells as bad as a Las Vegas casino. I have a sore throat from it. All my clothes in my suitcase now stink-- won't that be awesome for my four-day business trip?? I'd move rooms, but they don't have any. Awesome. It's not the staff's fault, but this is really gross and irritating and I'm freezing.

Arrived in NYC at midnight with no problems arriving that late and getting us promptly checked in so we could get comfortable. Cozy room, clean, with nicely stocked bar. Complimentary breakfast is served in the dining room, friendly staff, make sure you dine at Sushi Lab located on the lobby floor and also check out the rooftop bar. Great location for this boutique hotel in NYC!

The positive- This boutique hotel was clean and the staff was very pleasant. The front entrance is about 50 feet from Time Square. The room was very small, but clean. The beds were comfortable and the hotel was very quiet at night. Our room was cleaned and replenished everyday. Negative- The website has not been updated in while. Neither has the hotel rooms. There are no concierge services. The website indicates that upgrades can be made that do not exist. For a fee the hotel supposedly offered "extras". I ordered chocolates in the room for our arrival and said I wanted to book massages for my daughter and I. When we arrived our room wasn't ready so we waited. When we did get up to the room there were no chocolates or any visible way to book our massages. I called the front desk and they said they didn't offer massages. The clerk did admit she just saw me requests and instead of fulfilling our request they offered us a bottle of wine or a dessert. We chose dessert and 40 mins later we got a piece of chocolate cake, with 1 fork. The wallpaper is pealing and every time the elevator was used the lights would blink and dim. The view from our sixth story room was a cement wall. The continental breakfast that was supposed to be delivered to each room was served in the large dining area next to the lobby. You would figure a hotel with 2 restaurants would have an excellent breakfast. We have had better breakfasts at Hotel Six. The choices were slim and unimpressive for being in such a culinary rich city. Because we were leaving early I asked if the front desk could get us a cab. It was only a 16 minute walk, but it was only 5 am and still dark. The car picked us up and had no idea where the entrance to Penn Station was so he dropped us off on the corner "near the door" he said. It took us 7 minutes to get there and cost $47!!!! At nearly $500 a night I had expected far better. My recommendation is to book at the Renaissance hotel or the OYO right across from the Sanctuary. This hotel was beyond disappointing. I give it 2 stars, but only because the staff was so great.
