Mouthwatering ribs, brisket, and peach tea wings.

"Building on the South Side’s storied smoked-meats tradition, this top-of-the-scene spot delivers deeply satisfying ribs, brisket, and sausages that showcase different regional styles. The $50 platter (serves 2–4) is my move—it packs brisket, pulled pork, ribs, a sausage link, and two sides, with mac and cheese and collard greens offering pure comfort and enough leftovers for solo diners or pairs. The St. Louis–style spare ribs rank among the city’s best, coated in a dry rub that forms a smoky bark; the pork clings to the bone yet stays tender and juicy, and four barbecue sauces are on hand if you like them wet, with the spicy sauce adding a welcome kick. The Texas-style beef rib is pricey at $42 but worth it—a colossal, shareable slab that pulls apart effortlessly, with a peppery crust and richly marbled meat. When the weather cooperates, I head to the peaceful back patio under the sun shade sail, and on weekends I arrive before 10:30 a.m. to beat the pre-opening line—popular items tend to sell out by 3 p.m." - Jeffy Mai

"Fresh off winning the People’s Choice Award at this year’s Hamburger Hop, the barbecue spot will offer its crowd-favorite burger for one day only on Sunday, October 19, topped with chipotle mayo, arugula, pickled onions, white cheddar and bleu cheese, bacon onion jam, pickles, and balsamic glaze, paired with fries and a drink during an event from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., with $20 tickets." - Jeffy Mai

"Regarded as one of Chicago’s best barbecue restaurants, the Beverly original has drawn national acclaim and now serves as the springboard for a Hyde Park sequel that aims to be a bigger, flashier signature expression of James Sanders’s vision." - Jeffy Mai
"During one visit to Sanders, a diner exclaimed that they always order the sweet potato cornbread. But after tasting the BBQ at this Beverly spot, our list of "must-orders" reads less like a handful of dishes and more like a comprehensive survey of the menu. The rib tips are snackable, buttery morsels. Rich gumbo comes with incredible salt and pepper-crusted oxtail. And though the cornbread is excellent, it's in good company with sides like creamy street corn and tangy collards. While we’d gladly eat this BBQ in any type of seating, hanging on their secluded patio with our favorite six-pack (they’re BYOB) is our preferred Sanders experience." - adrian kane, john ringor
"Sanders’ Beverly patio is the perfect place to enjoy some nice weather, split a six-pack with friends (they’re BYOB), and eat excellent BBQ in relative peace. The high vine-covered walls mean you can eat your smoked wings, brisket, or rib tips without public judgment if you get their excellent BBQ sauce all over your face. Plus, if the sun ends up being too much, there’s an area with a roof that’ll keep you shaded, but still ensure you get a side of fresh air with your sweet potato cornbread and rib tips." - adrian kane, john ringor
