The 29 Best Restaurants In Lisbon - Lisbon - The Infatuation

"Santa Joana stuns before you even take your seat. Hidden inside the stylish Locke Santa Joana aparthotel, this grand dining room has soaring ceilings, pink marble tables, and enough Portuguese tapestries to make a grandma tear up. The food is equally striking. Order your drink of choice, then dive into Chef Nuno Mendes’ elevated take on Portuguese classics. Start with acepipes like grilled chicken hearts or the dreamy chickpea panisse, before moving onto the raw bar prawns and tuna belly that taste like it was pulled from the Atlantic Ocean an hour before. The shrimp rice with lobster, made with red scarlett shrimp from the Algarve is creamy, crunchy, and so fancy that, you’ll want to put on your tuxedo. Be prepared to pay at least €100 per person, so consider tagging along with someone with a corporate card." - rita geraldes

The 36 Best Restaurants in Lisbon, Portugal | Eater

"The prodigal son returns. After making his mark on London (where he runs Lisboeta), chef Nuno Mendes is back in his native Lisbon as the culinary director of Santa Joana, a striking bar and restaurant in the hotel Locke de Santa Joana, tucked in an old convent and close to the Marques de Pombal square. Mendes brings his signature modern approach to traditional Portuguese cuisine, as seen in dishes like grilled chicken hearts with pica-pau sauce or pan-roasted turbot with seaweed emulsion and crushed potatoes executed by head chef Mauricio Varela. Begin your meal at the counter with some local oysters from the raw bar and a signature cocktail (with local ingredients) before moving to your table for the full experience." - Rafael Tonon

From the moment we walked in, the experience was excellent—beginning with a warm, informative welcome that set the tone for the evening. The service throughout was top-tier, with staff offering attentive, thoughtful care. The pacing of the meal was especially impressive, with each dish arriving in a perfectly timed sequence. While the spicy mezcalita fell short for me—the mezcal had an artificial smokiness and lacked the expected kick of spice—it was a small hiccup in an otherwise stellar evening. As someone who’s lived in Mexico and has long appreciated good mezcal, I found the quality lacking. That said, the food itself more than made up for it. Every dish was generous in portion and exceptional in quality. The beautifully designed interior, coupled with the layered history of the space, added even more charm to an already memorable dining experience

We stayed in the hotel and ate here for breakfast each morning - so many fresh options for meat, fish, cheese, fruit and pastries. Wide selection of hot and cold drinks. The breakfast was so good we also had lunch here one day during our stay, and sampled their selection of cocktails before going out each night 💃

This restaurant is set in the most beautiful of locations once you get past the half naked influencers hanging around the hotel pool outside. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable about the menu and the atmosphere is a kind of tropical luxurious. The starters were a bit over complicated and the menu wasn’t composed as well as it could be which means nothing really jumps off the page. Having said that once you get the food it all tastes fabulous and is extremely skill fully cooked and presented. All in all a great date night if your staying in the hotel it lives in otherwise I’m sure they’re are better places in Lisbon for a romantic meal.

I recently visited the bar at the Santa Joana restaurant in Lisbon, located within a hotel, and had a wonderful experience. We ordered oysters with champagne, followed by a few cocktails. The oysters were incredibly fresh, perfectly chilled, and expertly shucked. They were served with three different sauces, each offering a unique and delicious flavor. The service was excellent—everyone spoke great English and was very friendly. The venue itself is beautiful, with impeccable cleanliness throughout. Overall, it was a fantastic experience, and I would definitely recommend it.

I had the most wonderful dining experience at Santa Joana for my birthday meal. From the arrival experience with lovely host Marco right until departure, everything was simply perfect. Highlights on the menu were without a doubt the Horse mackerel fritter, the runner bean snack, the aged tuna belly and the braised spinach esparregado (incredible!). We were recommended a beautiful Tejo white by Rafaela, which complemented the meal perfectly. The cherry on top was Chef Nuno himself bringing the Matcha Pao de Lo cake to the table with a birthday candle on it - incredibly delicious, exactly how the cake should be cooked, and a beautiful modern interpretation of my favourite childhood dessert! Thank you to the whole team for this unforgettable evening, I can't wait to be back!

This restaurant is an absolute gem, set in a beautifully restored former convent. The décor is both elegant and authentic, showcasing Portuguese artists with great taste and subtlety. The atmosphere is warm and intimate, making it perfect for a special evening. As for the food, everything was absolutely delicious, featuring high-quality local ingredients. The Algarve oysters were incredibly fresh, the aged tuna belly was melt-in-the-mouth, and the farinheira (Portuguese sausage) was full of flavor. The highlight was the seafood rice with lobster, perfectly cooked and bursting with rich flavors and textures. And the chocolate mousse? Simply irresistible! The wine list is outstanding, with a superb selection highlighting some of the best Portuguese wines. The only downside was the inconsistent service—some staff were highly professional and welcoming, while others seemed less trained. Despite this minor flaw, the experience was exceptional, and this restaurant is a must-visit for anyone who appreciates fine dining and historic settings.

This restaurant seems to aim for fine dining, but unfortunately, both the food and service fall short. The dishes are presented well, but the execution leaves much to be desired. My pork was served raw, and they didn’t even ask how I wanted it cooked. The fish was extremely salty and overcooked, completely masking its original flavor. The service was also disappointing. When I asked for a port wine, the lady tried to convince me it wasn’t a good choice before the meal and pushed for other options. While I appreciate suggestions, her approach felt overly pushy and judgmental. I knew what I wanted, and it would have been better if she had simply respected my preference. Surprisingly, the best part of the meal was the green beans and mushrooms—simple sides that outshone the mains. Both the meat and fish dishes were a letdown. Overall, I can’t recommend this place. It has potential, but they need significant improvements in both their food quality and customer service.

Michelin chef Nuno Mendes’ Lisbon restaurant is placed In the central Lisbon hip resort hotel Locke, with cafe, cowork, outdoor restaurant with pool & bar, 2 cocktail bars. It is a +300 pax space with stunning light decor with high ceilings and a garden bar, with an extensive wine card at international prices and very friendly and efficient service. We were 8 for a late Sunday brunch, which includes a oysters, a few seafood salad dishes on demand, a couple of delicious chef dishes (which are the main attractions) of Egg Florentine and marinated chicken, coffees & juices, a bland charcuterie and cheese selection, quite an extensive bread, pancake & croissant buffet, and an extensive fruit & dessert table with a couple highlights like the mousse, brownie and arroz Doce, which we all accompanied with a national Spumante and a Piemonte red for a fair total of €80/pax.
