25 Best San Jose and South Bay Area Restaurants | Eater SF

"Santo Market is a grocery store in Japantown established in 1946. Since the pandemic, it’s been converted into a pickup window serving seafood, sandwiches, and lunch plates. The most popular item is the poke, which is available in either savory shoyu tossed with limu or creamy spicy mayo. You can order the poke as a bowl or get it by the tubful." - Octavio Peña

Definitely one of the best poke places I've had! The owner was so nice, he even gave me a sample of their beef brisket 🥹! The fish just melts in your mouth and the spicy mayo complements it so well! The rice was a bit mushy, but that might be because I waited a bit to eat it. But the quality of the fish and the portion makes it one of my top spots here in the bay

Google
($23/lb) Poke: 10/10, really fresh, has the right amount of chewiness, not mushy, seasoned just right. I prefer the shoyu flavor, which has a hint of sesame oil. The spicy flavor is almost equally good too but I think the fish doesn't shine as much as the shoyu flavor, because of the mayo. I got only the poke to have with rice at home. Previous reviews said the poke is too salty, but mine was perfectly seasoned, maybe they changed the recipe to be less salty. Will try the octopus next time! ($6/2pcs) Strawberry mochi: 8/10, good but not mindblowing enough to justify the wait, for me personally. Each mochi is pretty big, and the strawberry is fresh and juicy, red bean paste is still a bit too sweet for my liking as an asian, the mochi wrapping is perfectly thin and chewy. I got in line at 8:20 before they open at 9, but at 9:30 I was already the second last person to secure the mochi. I think the long queue on weekends is mostly due to people wanting to buy the mochi and not necessarily the poke (?), so if you only want poke, maybe come back later but before the lunch rush hour. Parking: limited in front of shop but plenty of street parking on 6th St and nearby streets. Overall: solid spot for poke in SJ, will be back!

Google
The mochi is delicious! Red bean paste is not too sweet and it tasted so good 💯 One person can buy 3 orders of mochi. Each order contains 2 and they're a decent size. If you decided to store in the refrigerator make sure it is covered in the cling wrap. Getting there: I reached on Saturday at 8.30 am to get in line for the mochi. It opens at 9 am. There were maybe 15-20 people in front of me. There's maybe a kiosk next to the counter where you can order as well? I wasn't sure. Line moved fast and I was out of there by 9.25 am. I parked on one of the parallel streets.

Google
Came here on a friend's recommendation for the poke. The poke indeed was fantastic. Fresh with good flavors, simple but fantastic. However other options like the loco moco was quite mid. Their macaroni salad was honestly the worst I've ever had. For poke 100% a great value and would recommend.

Google
I’m from California, but like many of us - I’m obsessed with Hawaii. I dream about the poke in Hawaii. The poke in the Bay Area sucks!! All these bowls with different nonsense in it. I almost gave up. But I decided to try one more spot. We pulled up to this spot right at opening. We ordered two plates, spicy ahi and the shoyu ahi. Just the ahi and the hot steamy rice. Took me right back to Hawaii 🥹🌈 This place had so much aloha spirit. The owners clearly came from the islands. They know what they are doing. Very very high quality. I can not wait to come back. I do wish we could browse inside the market, I was a little disappointed about it being closed, but I don’t care. The poke healed my spirit.

Google
Visit: September 2024 A line up right at opening, 9am. The poke had very fresh fish, and was really reminiscent of poke from Hawaii The star for me was the handmade strawberry mochi. It sells out quick, which is well deserved. The mochi was extremely soft and chewy, wasn't too sweet, and paired perfectly with the red bean filling and the sweet and slightly sour strawberries. It was absolutely delicious and a must-try. I couldn't stop eating them! They're also shaped like peaches which was really cute

Jane Liu

Google
The poke here is excellent and the chunks of ahi and salmon are large and fresh just like what you'd find in Hawaiian supermarkets. The shoyu sauce is very good though probably not the best I've had in the Bay Area. I mostly just come here for the freshness and quality of the cubes of fish--it's probably one of the best (if not the best) quality poke in California.

Vincent Ngo

Google
I come here for the poke, haven't tried anything else. You get a lot of fish here (I've only gotten large) and I really like the spicy tuna bowl. It's simple, just rice and fish, but it's great.

Yelp
Probably the hidden gem on the menu - the Portuguese sausage breakfast burrito. Everything about this slaps. The eggs are soft, super cheesy, and their tortilla is even of the highest quality. Try it, tell me I'm wrong. But you'll tell me I'm right.

Yelp
BEST poke in the Bay Area (or at least in South Bay). Prove me wrong. I usually order a medium for the shoyu ahi and spicy ahi. To avoid long lines, just order online. I've tried Aloha Fresh multiple times due to many people saying it's super close to Hawaiian poke, but I found the poke there a little bland compared to Santo Market's. Major disclaimer: I'm not trying to drag a business to bring one up. I just thought that was an important point to bring up since it's all subjective to taste. Overall, cannot go wrong with Santo.
google avatar

Yelp
Update: Found Aloha fresh after writing this review and so far the closest to Hawaiian poke, santo is the second closest outside of Hawaii in South Bay. Probably the closest to hawaiian poke outside of hawaii in south bay/sj i have been able to find/try. Coming back from my trip to Hawaii back in august 2023 and first trying poke there I found a love for raw fish. Ive been craving poke since I got back from my trip I've been seeing this pop up on yelp, looking up foodie places for the longest time, so I decided to give it a try on my lunch, run between offices for work and I'm glad I did, because it satisfied my Hawaiian Poke fixation since first trying poke in August 2023 in Hawaii. Overall opinion was lack in consistency of flavor of the poke, overall is okay (in terms of comparison to typical American poke bowl chains, it is more similar to Hawaiian poke). 2/20/2024 The first time I tried it, I ordered the half-and-half with spicy ahi and shoyu ahi and I noticed there were no options for Salmon, just ahi or tako. First time was good- i got the regular half and half poke bowl. They gave a lot of the spicy mayo ahi and kinda skimped on the shoyu ahi (i feel like the shoyu ahi is more popular). 3/5/2024 Second time was not as good- (it was too salty, like they didn't mix the marinade well or too much salt) and the ahi was not as fresh as last time. Also just got the shoyu, overall looked like they give less of shoyu. 5/3/2024 Third time got large poke bowl and was still a bit salty but not as much as last time, although i prefer it less saltier. The ahi seems like it was "tenderized" or has this texture (note not taste, texture) like its been sitting in pineapple juice. All of these were documented at the time of buying the poke to be as accurate as possible. So overall coming to conclusion their salting or marinating is a bit inconsistent and a bit skimp on the shoyu ahi from my experiences. Haven't gone here recent months and wrote this but forgot in drafts.

Yelp
I had a great meal at Santo Market. You order outside of the market, where there's a little shady area to wait by. There's a big mural on the wall with the name of the market, and a small parking lot. Very open area, but it may be hard to find parking! There is no outdoor seating either. We came on a Saturday at noon, and it was about a fifteen minute wait until we were able to order. The server was super sweet, and although it was busy, he had a positive attitude. We got 1/2 lb of Shoyu and Spicy to enjoy in the car. I brought some rice and edamame from home for us to enjoy with the poke. This poke is pretty solid! The fish was tender and well seasoned. I like the Shoyu one a lot, and I would definitely refrigerate it more to have the fish be a bit more firm to my liking. However, for the price, it is honestly pretty good!

Yelp
Parking can be tricky as the parking lot is small. We got lucky and managed to find a spot across the street. You can order on the iPad or window on the left. There were quite a few people who were standing around waiting for their name/ number to be called. Our order came out fairly quickly, about 10 minutes. The strawberry mochi was sold out hours ago. I got the tuna poke while my bf got the tako. At first I thought it was too much rice, but it was just right. I enjoyed the shoyu more than the spicy tuna. It was spicer than I expected. The tako was chewy. I'm glad I tried the poke here, but don't feel like it's a must.

Yelp
This is my once a week go to and should be yours too! Poki is always delicious! Shout out to Dale at the front window! He's one of the best they got!

Yelp
Came here during a weekday with two coworkers and ordered a large (half pound) half-shoyu half-spicy tuna poke bowl with furikake rice. So filling & really yummy. I brought the star rating up from the last time I went since I appreciate how high quality and fresh the fish is and the price point that they offer their bowls at!

Yelp
I know this is always a staple when people recommend places in San Jose. However, after trying it a couple of times after living here for four years, I am not sure I get the overwhelming hype. The line is always long and they always sell out pretty fast but the poke is nothing special to me. It comes with a big side of rice and a small portion of fish for a regular which I think is a bit off-putting especially for the price. Well, to each their own. The staff was really nice though, I'll give you that.
google avatar

Malisa C.

Yelp
Believe the hype!!! EVERYTHING here is absolutely delicious!!! Came to Santo after hearing tons of amazing reviews about their poke and daifuku mochi- I've now been here in several occasions but never get there early enough to try the mochi... But the poke is AMAZING!!! We usually get half shoyu and half spicy. It's so, so good! So fresh and the flavor is always perfect. Finally tried the garlic shrimp plate & ask I can say is WOW!!! Parking can be tough during lunch time- they have a lot but there are always so many people that spaces fill up quickly but be patient- it's worth it!!!

Yelp
Didn't realize it's already been a couple years since I last went here. Today I got a large poke bowl w/ half spicy tuna and half shoyu tuna. I'm disappointed to say that the seasoning of the fish was still incredibly salty. I was able to eat it in small increments but I couldn't get past how oversaturated my palette was.
google avatar

Valerie N.

Yelp
I really enjoyed eating poke here! I was never a big fan of poke at other places but I feel like this was the perfect amount (maybe even a bit more to save for later!) Adding on cucumber and the spicy sauce is amazing. Make sure to dip the cucumber in there! The half spicy tuna and shoyu salmon was such a great combination. My bf ordered ahead online and it was easy and ready to pick up by the time we got there! The line was super crowded and there wasn't anymore of the famous strawberry mochi, but I have something to look forward to the next time I go!

Yelp
This was my first visit and definitely not my last. Ordered the tuna poke 1/2 spicy, 1/2 shoyu. The poke was so tender and flavorful, melted in my mouth. I didn't do my homework so didn't realize there wasn't a traditional store. They had various Asian staples available at the walk up window but didn't get a good look at the selection. The staff was very friendly and took time to explain things, didn't feel rushed during the busy lunch rush. I would absolutely recommend for traditional style Hawaiian poke and to arrive before they open to get the strawberry mochi. I heard they sold out 15 min of opening!

Trina V.

Yelp
I see Santo Market's poke as comfort food. The poke itself tastes fresh and is on the tender, chewy side. I've heard a lot of people compare it to Hawaiian poke, but all of the poke I had in Hawaii was on the soft and buttery side. This poke was more seasoned than expected, kind of salty, but it helps that there's a lot of rice to go with it. The rice itself is also a little mushy, not sure if that's on purpose but it was still enjoyable. The fish selection is a bit limited too. The service is great, the cashier who I am also assuming was the owner was very considerate of nut allergies and polite overall. Their receipt is also considerate: it kind of logs the entire conversation between the customer and cashier. I haven't been a place so thoughtful. This place is particularly comforting because it is also a market selling Asian groceries. It's definitely a downtown SJ gem and a must try. Would come back every once in a while!

Yelp
Santo Market has the most authentic Hawaiian poke in the Bay Area! The fish tastes so fresh and marinated so well. I'm never disappointed when I eat there. I usually get the spicy mayo and shoyu tuna regular bowl and it fills me right up. The spicy mayo is creamy while the shoyu is light so the flavors go really well together. The wait can be long at times so I recommend ordering online so you won't have to wait once you arrive. The place is grab and go so there's no seating at the place. There are parks nearby however that you can sit and eat at!
google avatar

Anabelle H.

Yelp
The poke here is so fresh and the price is so worth it! I came with high expectations because I heard that this is the best poke in the area. There was no line when I got there for lunch and after ordering, it only took a couple of minutes for my food to be ready. - Tuna poke with half shoyu and half spicy (5/5): I got this in a regular size and thank goodness I did because the portion size is big! The regular is $13 and my boyfriend got a large which was $16. We barely finished our food and by the end of it, we were both stuffed. The fish quality is the freshest I've had and is comparable to that of Hawaii (which is saying something because they have the best quality seafood there). The tuna can get a little bit salty but that's no problem because they give you a big portion of white rice to even out the savory flavor. The man who took my order was really friendly and again, my food was prepared really fast! Perfect for an on the go meal. There is no seating available, so we just ate in the car. The price is a deal in itself because big portion size + fresh fish + cheap price = heaven. I'd give this place 10 stars if I could LOL. Needless to say, my high expectations were exceeded :)

Yelp
One of the best places to go to for authentic Hawaiian poke. I have been going here for quite awhile and I honestly would consider this place a different level of poke. There are not as many choices compared to modern poke around here but the quality is so much better. There is also a mini market if you want to do some of your shopping there too. You order at a window outside or with a kiosk or online. My suggestion is to just order online if there is a long line. There is no real seating but honestly I always take it home or eat in the car.

Yelp
Santo Market is a source of discord within my family. My wife and her siblings love Santo Market and the poke they serve, but for me it just doesn't live up to the reputation. Their selection is very limited, offering only Tuna and Tako that you can get with either a shoyu or spicy sauce. I would recommend getting a 50/50 split because if you go with just one or the other, the lack of diversity in the flavor starts to wear on you. I also found the poke to be too salty, a feeling that only builds the more you eat to the point where it was a bit of a challenge to finish even the regular size. It comes with no additional sides or toppings, just rice with furikake which seems to only exacerbate the over-salting issue. If I ordered the poke again I would probably ask for no furikake simply in the hopes that the plain white rice would offer some much needed contrast. People come here almost exclusively for the poke but they do offer a number of other dishes including garlic shrimp, kalua pork, and beef teriyaki though be prepared as many of these dishes are frequently sold out. I've only tried one so far, the Beef Teriyaki, and I would recommend you steer clear as it was some of the thinnest and driest teriyaki I've ever had. Santo Market seems to get a lot of credit for being the most "authentic" poke to what you would find in Hawaii, but I just don't feel like that's an honest assessment. They may be the most similar in terms of simplicity, but in my experience the flavor and quality just don't seem to match up.

Yelp
i've been told this is the best place to get poke in San Jose & have been desperate to try for years! can't believe it took me this long :0 i came on a friday around noon & there was a slight wait in the order line, but the food came out quick and fresh!!! + half shoyu half spicy: 10/10. so so good!!!! this is definitely quality fish that you won't get at a regular poke place in SJ. the rice also was piping hot and super soft - just how i like it. i definitely understand the hype about this place & is a must-go! i hope to try their other options & strawberry mochi someday!!!
google avatar

Yelp
Santo's is my all time favorite poke spots and my go-to spot for lunch breaks from SJSU! They are known for serving traditional Hawaiian poke (ahi tune or octopus) over a fresh bed of rice and seasoned with furikake. They are located a little on the outskirts of Japantown and they have their own little parking lot, but parking can be a little scarce on weekends or during the lunch rush hour. Since they're traditional poke, they have no additional vegetables/sides added in like other poke spots but Santo's is very filling nonetheless! You have the choice of either ahi tuna or octopus (tako) and seasoning of either shoyu or spicy. However, you can mix and match 2 different flavors/seafood. I typically get the regular sized half shoyu ahi and spicy octopus and it costs around $16. Though it is a bit more expensive than other spots, it is because their tuna and octopus are higher quality and you can definitely taste that! Their ahi tuna melts in your mouth and the octopus has a good chew to it, not too hard like other places! Their rice is always served warm and pillowy soft and make sure to always get the furikake seasoning to get that extra umami flavor! I have yet to try their strawberry mochi because they always sell out super early, but I have tried their Guava cake and I hope they bring it back. They also have other Hawaiian rice plates as well so if poke isn't your cup of tea, definitely come try them out!

Yelp
Came here on a Saturday morning 41 mins after opening and they were out of strawberry mochis already :c so go super early if you want to snag one!!! This was my first time trying for the strawberry mochis so I didn't expect it! Anyways back to the fish! I bought the shoyu and spicy tuna in the tub so I can take it home and make my own poke bowls! I also got the mac salad. It was soooo yummy!!! I highly recommend buying the tubs because then you don't need to wait for your order to come out as long. Most people were still waiting for their order but because I only bought the tubs it came out immediately. Also skip the line and order online!

Yelp
We stopped by here on a weekday and were still greeted by a long line. It moved fast though, and the order was ready in less than 5 minutes of waiting. This restaurant is also take out only, with a small take-out window and an outdoor patio area. I haven't had trouble finding parking either in their lot or down the street (cheap paid city parking) I usually like salmon a bit more, but they don't offer that here. The menu list is on the shorter side when it comes to poke offerings, with spicy or shoyu tuna. They also have some other specialty items. The shoyu tuna is good and well seasoned! The rice was also well cooked with furikake on the top. Overall pretty good and very fresh.

Yelp
We are always looking for a chance to get down to Santo Market. Our newest lil one had a check up and we were able to take our family out for quick takeout. Their poke is a taste of Hawaii and hands down the best around the South Bay. Wife went with all spicy ahi and tako, I got the shoyu ahi and spicy tako. Comes with rice with furikake in a convenient takeout box. Lil guy got the garlic shrimp plate and mostly enjoyed the tsukemono! Please don't forget the delicious snacks as we got some Sakura arare (soy rice crackers) and wasabi kaki no tane (horseradish flavored rice crackers) for home! Ordered online at the window and our food came out quick and hot. Miss being able to walk inside the store but you can still get items from the market thru the window. Will always make time to go back! Thank you Santo Market!

Yelp
What I ordered: - [#1] Tuna Poke- half shoyu/ half spicy - [#5] Half Tuna (shoyu) /Half Tako (spicy) - Fresh Strawberry Mochi ** only made Tuesday & Saturday _ I've been wanting to try Santo Market for a while, and now that I finally have, I wish I'd gone sooner! It's a small stand with no seating, but the service is quick--our order came out in no time. You can also order ahead online for added convenience. They're famous for their poke bowls, and it's easy to see why. The bowls were delicious and reasonably priced. We ordered #1 and #5, both with half shoyu and half spicy sauce. After trying both, we agreed that the shoyu was better. We also got the strawberry mochi, and it was absolutely amazing! If you see it available, don't hesitate to grab one. They sell out quickly, though--we arrived around 11am and got the last one. I've heard they sell out even earlier, so it's best to go right when they open. I highly recommend giving them a try!

Yelp
Finally got to try a local favorite in San Jose! It was my lucky day because I went on a Saturday morning and they weren't out of their strawberry mochi yet. Strawberry mochis can't be preordered and they're first come first serve now. Food:20/10 The poké is so fresh and similar to Foodland in Hawaii but better! My husband said this will be our go to poké place now. The poké wasn't too salty. Our favorite was the spicy tuna poké because of its light creaminess, but it's nice to have both for a variety. It was nice seeing bits of seaweed salad in the shoyu poké too. The macaroni salad had a bit of sweetness and paired well with the poké. The strawberry mochi looked so fuzzy like a peach but I enjoyed every bit of it! The mochi skin was the star of the show because it was soft and made me think of gummy candy. The strawberry and red bean had a nice blend of flavors together too. Ambiance: It's a to-go only spot and you can order ahead on toast too if you don't want to wait in line. Make sure to check your order after receiving it. They gave me two shoyu tuna tubs by mistake and I got one exchanged for a spicy tuna tub. There is street parking in the area. Pro tip: If you don't want to eat it right away, order the tubs of poké and eat them with tortilla chips or rice at home, add furikake, add cucumbers, add kimchi, etc I will be back the next time I'm craving poké.:)

Yelp
I came by right before they closed and I was so worried that they'd stopped taking orders but the man at the counter was extremely nice and reassured me that I can still order. I've heard great things about this place from my friend and I've been meaning to try. I ended up getting a small spicy ahi tuna poke and a mini cucumber seaweed salad. I paired it with some rice and avocado at home and it was perfect! I love that they have combos but different sized containers for you to pick. The ahi tuna was extremely fresh and the sauce was perfect and not too spicy. Since I came by right before they closed, so there were still a few parking spots but I can imagine this being filled during peak lunch hours. Next time I would like to check out the actual market!

Yelp
Went on a Saturday afternoon ~2pm Ordered: Spicy Tuna and Shoyu Tuna (Regular) It's so authentic, shoyu is the best i've had out here. When i'm craving poke this is what i want. I think sometimes i am in the mood for like the build it yourself poke that's popular in California, but is just so good and the vibes are immaculate. It has people waiting in line for 15 mins, cars in the parking lot are backed up just waiting to get in, and everyone's eating by their cars having a good time. I ordered online and when I went to pick it up, a man was asking the woman at the window if there's a QR code to skip the line but she said she recommends waiting and doing it in person to make sure they get the order right, esp bc they were kinda busy given it was a weekend.

Yelp
"If you're craving rice and fish, Forget sushi -- Santo's the dish." The remedy for all the mediocre, imitation sushi in the Bay Area is not sushi at all -- it's Santo's masterful poke. The tuna shines, uplifted by only the most essential ingredients. Tako takes the experience up a notch with serious bite and briny flavour. And for dessert, the cutest, freshest strawberry mochi ever is available until they sell out -- and they always sell out. The service from Dale and his team is warm, familiar and efficient. Enjoy the natural ambience of al fresco dining in the nearby park or catch your poke by the tub to refrigerate and enjoy later. Just be aware -- try Santo once and like the tuna, you'll be hooked. True score: 9.6 / 10 Return? YES

Yelp
If Yelp did .5 stars, I'd give this place a 4.5 out of 5. I ordered the tuna poke with half shoyu and half spicy and rice. The tuna tasted fresh, and I especially loved the spicy version--definitely something I'd get again. The shoyu was a little too salty for my taste but still flavorful overall. The service was fast, and the staff were friendly, which made the experience even better. While the grocery store itself is currently closed to the public, they've set up a convenient order-and-pickup system through their windows. Parking in their private lot is limited, but I easily found street parking nearby. This spot seems to be a local favorite, with a steady stream of customers. I can see why!

Yelp
I had a great experience at Santo Market! The food was fresh and delicious, bursting with flavors that really stood out. The quick and convenient walk-up window made it easy to grab a bite without any hassle. The service was friendly and efficient, which added to the overall positive vibe. Just a heads up, though--parking can be tight depending on when you go, so it's best to plan accordingly. Overall, Santo Market is a fantastic spot for a quick and tasty meal!

Yelp
Grab and go spot for fresh and yummy poke! There's limited parking but the food comes out fast. I got the spicy tuna poke with rice and my boyfriend got the spicy tako and shoyu tuna with rice. Everything was a 10/10.
google avatar

Courtney T.

Yelp
I was not impressed my first time coming here as I thought the portions were small, and the fish was too salty. I recently started trying it again, but this time I loved it so much more! The shoyu poke is still too salty for me (makes sense cause it is soy based), but the spicy tuna is soo good and the fish quality is amazing. Their tuna is super silky and fresh tasting. I prefer getting the rice without furikake and it's so good that way. The flavors are authentic and taste just like poke you'd get in Hawaii! I also lovee their potato salad! Its sweet, tangy. I always have to get a cup everytime I go! Will definitely be back here more often.

Yelp
One of the best tuna poke in the bay. I'm glad they reopened after COVID but sad they closed the grocery aspect of it. But nevertheless the poke remains unbeatable (to me). The classic rice/furikake/poke mix
google avatar

Yelp
Hands down the best poke you can eat in san jose! I always get the half and half with shoyu tuna and spicy tuna with rice with furikake! You order outside either at the window or on the kiosk and then they call your number at the window when your food is ready. It can get busy around lunch time, but definitely worth the wait.

Yelp
This market instantly reminded me of Hawaii. We ordered poke and the garlic butter shrimp. I asked the cashier if it was similar to Hawaii's Giovanni Shrimp Truck and he said no and recommended the beef teriyaki. I went with the shrimp anyway and yeah, he was right. It was no where near the garlic butter flavor I had in mind. The shrimp was over cooked and the dish tasted old like it was prepared yesterday. The poke had a good flavor but the quality was not comparable to Hawaii. They also do not hold back on the rice portion here. I'm definitely coming back and trying the teriyaki and tako (sold out).

Yelp
A hole in the wall place, we went at around 11:30 and they were already out of tako poke. Do not get the teriyaki plate, it was not a lot of beef and a lot of rice. The poke is decent, but according to my friend other places gave more. The experience just felt like a lot of rice in general.

Yelp
Found a place that is similar to Ono's in Oahu, HI. Upon ordering, there's limited choice to choose from, either Tuna, Tofu, Tako, or Veggie for the poke. The marinades were shoyu and spicy. They also have hot plates for folks who are not into the raw fish. Ordering was rather quickly, waited under 5 minute for my order to come out. No where to sit as it's just a building where you order from outside. They have limited parking in their lot but plentiful in the residential area. I ordered Tuna poke shoyu with furikake rice. The tuna is so sweet and nice chew to it. I love the marinade that they use, it isn't overly salted, you can still taste the sweet tuna. I do wish they have salmon but I'll take what I can get. Cannot wait till they open up again!

Yelp
I came to Santo Market specifically for their strawberry mochi, and while I did end up getting it, I couldn't resist trying a few other items from their menu for breakfast since we had to line up before 9am to secure our mochi. I ordered the pulled pork, and though it was a bit on the salty side, it came with a generous serving of rice which helped balance it out. My friends tried the poke and loco moco -- they both seemed satisfied, though the loco moco was pretty standard. I didn't try the poke myself since I can't eat seafood, but I hear that's one of their specialties. I do wish they had some outdoor seating. We ended up standing by our trunk and eating in the parking lot. The real star of the show was the strawberry mochi. I'm not normally a fan of red bean, but these mochi were delicious! The strawberries were fresh and sweet, and the mochi had the perfect texture. We woke up early to get there before opening, and there's a limit of 3 packs (6 mochi), so be sure to get there early if you want to grab them! They gave us a box to hold all the mochi packs as well which was really thoughtful of them. It's best to eat them right away, as the strawberry starts to release gases after a little while, which gives it "carbonated" taste or feeling similar to leaving chocolate covered strawberries overnight. I do recommend going early if you're coming from far away since it's not a guarantee that their supply will last, but people who came 20 min later were still able to order when we were there so maybe the hype has died down. Overall, the mochi alone is worth the trip, and the breakfast items are a solid addition to the experience. I'll definitely be back.

Yelp
Ordered food for pick up so we could skip the line. We got the spicy tuna poke and the Hawaiian garlic shrimp. Amazing flavors. The oil from the garlic shrimp was soaked in the rice, which I didn't like much but overall the flavors were great. We made our own poke bowls at home.

Yelp
Finally got to try out Santo Market! We ordered the large 1/2 shoyu tuna 1/2 spicy tuna. Wow, this place has the freshest and most flavorful poke! The flavors are so good and pair so well with the warm rice. Santo market has both a kiosk for ordering and staff who takes orders in person. Sometimes there's a line but the service is quick and the food comes out fast. I highly recommend the tuna poke here! :)

Yelp
3.5/5 if you just get the Shoyu Tuna poke! It's giving Hawaii outside order + pickup vibes! We came on a Saturday around 12pm and we were able to order right away. We got the 2 regular Tuna Pokes but one with Shoyu (3.5/5) and another with Spicy (2/5). We preferred the Shoyu one more since the Spicy one was too salty. They ran out of the Strawberry Mochi at 9:30am :/. Both of the tunas tasted pretty fresh and the Shoyu one is worth coming back for!

Yelp
Some of the freshest poke I've ever had in Bay Area. A bit busy on a Wednesday afternoon but wait was minimal. Takeout only through outside window service so ideal for a quick grab and go. Pictured: signature 1/2 shoyu and 1/2 spicy tuna with rice and furikake. The fish is extremely fresh and flavorful that leaves you begging for more. It is a bit on the saltier side but not necessarily a bad thing! Rice is well complimented with the furikake seasoning that helps balance out that saltiness from the fish. Definitely one of the better spots if you care about the fish quality and freshness. It is very simple compared to other poke spots but sometimes less is more. 9/10 will visit more often!

Yelp
Food: 5* Best poke I've ever had in the area. The flavoring is on point. They are not cheap on the portion too. Got pretty filled up just by this. Service: Order at the window and wait for your name to be called. Simple fast food style. I ordered with a kiosk. Ambiance: Limited parking but since people will leave right after getting the food, it doesn't take long to wait for a space. Otherwise, street parking.

Yelp
This place is super iconic and well-known for their freshly made strawberry mochi and tuna poke. And I'm happy to say it met the hype. The tuna was incredibly fresh, comparable only to poke in Hawaii. It's amazing. And the strawberry mochi was also great, very refreshing and not something you can get everywhere. They sell the fresh strawberry mochi Tuesday and Saturday, and they definitely sell out of the strawberry mochi super quick especially on Saturdays, so be sure to get there early! I went on a Tuesday and they were sold out in about 20 minutes if that helps give you an idea. This is definitely a place everyone in the South Bay should check out if you haven't already!

Yelp
How the heck did this place have such good reviews? I ordered the garlic shrimp and there was zero garlic, the shrimp are tiny and overcooked. Each little shrimp was hard and rubbery. Mac salad was watery and hard. $17. Waste of calories.

Yelp
Santo is hands down THE BEST Hawaiian poke spot in the Bay! Granted I haven't found too many places serving poke Hawaiian style (compared to places with poke bowls where all the ingredients are mixed in). The tuna and rice just tastes so good without the need for any other ingredients! It's always super fresh and the flavor is spot on - I always get half shoyu and half spicy. It might be a little bit salty sometimes but the rice balances it out. We also like to get the seaweed, which they mix with thinly sliced cucumbers, making it extra refreshing! I love that we can order online for pickup since they're definitely busy all the time (as it should be since they are so good)! Santo is perfect for a picnic on a nice sunny day! P.S. please ignore the drink can in the shoe in the pic, but pro tip - it's a great way of keeping your drinks upright while on a picnic

Yelp
I've always been a huge fan of Costco poke. $21.99/lb, but it's always a hit or miss when it comes to Costco. Today, I tried Santo Market and the price is very similar. $23/lb including tax. It's marinated in soy sauce and comes with some other fillers like seaweed and onions. Has an authentic feel and it's pretty darn good. I think it beats the local poke shops on value.

Yelp
A taste of Hawaiian poke in the Bay Area! When I'm in the mood for Hawaiian Poke and am planning to be in the area, Santo Market makes for a great lunch meal. Santo Market is takeout only, so I recommend ordering online before coming to pick up the food. They've always had my order ready when I arrive. The marinated poke cubes are really flavorful, the spicy tuna was my favorite out of the two, but I did liked the Shoyu too. They also have other options such as Hawaiian hot plates, breakfast items, and sandwiches. Sides include seaweed salad, macaroni salad, potato salad, and more! There is limited parking in the lot, if it's full, there should be plenty of available street parking in the neighborhood.

Yelp
Super fresh with great flavors! Got the half shoyu tuna and half spicy tako small. The spicy tako was really salty today though so it was really hard to eat but the tuna was super bright and refreshing. They put furikake on the rice which added some extra flavors. I recommend getting the small size as I can't really tell the difference between the large. Service is super quick (less than 5 min) but you get a text when it's ready anyways. No tables or anything so may have to eat at home.

Yelp
This was my second time here and based on my first visit, I thought this place was overhyped as it didn't taste much different from other poke and left hungry. Large half Tuna and half octopus (4/5): I thought the large was not that much bigger than the regular, but glad I left satisfied this time. I thought the fish quality was great, but the sauce and seasoning was way too salty.
