A nice German restaurant in the heart of downtown, not far from the River Walk. Lots of locals and a rich history. Stopped in for breakfast before visiting the Alamo. The schnitzel was a little dry but the biscuit was light and fluffy. The potato pancakes were kinda doughy. I think the potatoes weren't wrung out before frying. Apple sauce was homemade and tasty. $4 for a cup of coffee was a little steep. Our server was very nice and helpful.

Reading up on this place we knew we didn’t want to miss it. They make pork, chicken or veal schnitzel and serve breakfast all day. I tried the adult root beer since they make their own root beer and it was delicious (Buffalo Trace bourbon creme 😍). We shared and very much enjoyed how perfect the pretzel with beer cheese was. I had the chicken sandwich with a cup of pea soup, my mom enjoyed the Reuben, and my sister had pork schnitzel with egg and biscuit. Atmosphere is quaint and historic while being comfortably casual. Service was always present. Definitely eat here when visiting town.

After being up since 4 a.m and having a long flight with no breakfast, I ended up here after a recommendation by a guy at a restaurant by the Riverwalk. I had to wait around 25 minutes in the line to be seated. A couple of mishaps prevented my order from being served before about 30 minutes, but the manager and waitress made sure that these situations were properly compensated. I ended up having my meal until after 1 p.m, but the long wait was totally worth it, as the food was delicious and the service was top notch. I gotta also point out that the consistency and taste of the Schnitzel and the Spätzle were quite close to how they are served at typical restaurants in the German-speaking countries in Europe. Got in hungry as a bear, got out bursting at the seams.

Schilo’s is a true classic that’s worth the wait! We waited about 30 minutes since it was quite busy, but the lively atmosphere and the charm of this historic spot made the time fly. As for the food, absolutely wonderful. Every bite is packed with authentic flavor, and you can tell they take pride in their recipes. It’s hearty, comforting, and everything you’d hope for from a timeless favorite. If you’re in the area and craving a meal with character and amazing taste, Schilo’s is the place to be. Just be ready for a bit of a wait—it’s popular for a reason!

This is my first time at this location and I’ve been to San Antonio multiple times. The food was fantastic. Definitely felt very authentic! Joseph was the real Jim. He was a fantastic staff. Member made sure we were always taken care of and offered multiple opportunities for him to be the all star member any location needs!

Google
Schilo's is supposedly the oldest spot in San Antonio, but they sure don’t know how to hurry. We waited forever for our food—kind of a buzzkill on vacation, right? Then the burger finally shows up... with bacon on it. We didn’t ask for bacon. We don’t even need bacon, bacon wasn't even on the menu description. It was a total mystery. Sadly the fries were cold and unseasoned and the famous root beer was room not chilled, it was room temperature. So, we had to go all the way back to fix the order instead of, you know, actually enjoying our time in San Antonio. Fun times. On the bright side, the cheesecake was surprisingly good. If you’re in the mood for a long wait and some accidental bacon, Schilo's is your place. Otherwise, maybe keep looking.

Google
The food was great, and the pricing was reasonable. However, the experience was let down by a few issues. There was a wait to be seated, and once we ordered, the food took an unusually long time to arrive. We eventually had to ask the server if we could cancel the order because the wait was so long—it felt like forever. On top of that, the server seemed rushed when processing the payment. I selected an 18% tip, but after that, the server never returned to check on us while we waited for the food.

Google
This is supposedly the oldest restaurant in San Antonio. It had a very good atmosphere inside. I got the Patty Melt, which was cooked perfectly. Their most famous sandwich is a Reuben, but I am not a Ruben fan. Several people around me got them though, and they looked really good. Jennifer was my waitress and she did a fantastic job!

Terri S.

Yelp
Can't wait to return! I've been here twice and had amazing experiences both times!! Sampler was great...was not expecting the Reuben balls to be so good but they were! Pickles and cheese were fresh!! Pretzel was soft and perfectly salted! Don't sleep on the German sausage! The avocado toast was perfect!!! The chicken sandwich may have been the best we ever tried! And you should absolutely try the German potato salad! Order the Paralyzer--that Root Beer is soooo good!! Try something with it! And the best thing you can put in your mouth is that hot mustard!! Our server was freaking unbelievable and we didn't have to wait to be seated! The Bloody Mary bar was to die for amazing!!! My bestie really enjoyed it and we will be going back!

Yelp
Schilo's (She-lows) was definitely a hit with the fam today! Nothing like starting the morning with a frosty mug of homemade root beer! It was delicious, and I can only imagine how good it'd be as a float! Just know not all dishes are available until 10:30AM, but even so, such great food for the morning! Kiddo and hubby got the breakfast schnitzel and turned it into a biscuit sandwich of joy. Really nice crunch on the schnitzel, not heavy or greasy, and the biscuit was nice and fluffy. I got the Reuben on gluten free bread, and I loved how much bite it had. Lots of vinegar and pickling from the sauerkraut with some solid pastrami. The Russian dressing was also really good on the sandwich and also to dip the sandwich in, because...why not? I haven't had pastrami for so long, so this was such a treat to have a Reuben! We will definitely be back. Service was lovely, so friendly, staff were so welcoming and kind! I loved the atmosphere, the decor, everything. Great place to eat with kids!

Maggie M.

Yelp
Well, the reputation proceeds itself. The biscuits and gravy are really good. The fried chicken with biscuits and gravy, EVEN BETTER..... highly recommend. What i will say needs some major improvement is the coffee. First I thought it was rotten creamer. Til people at my table had the same experience and their coffee was black. There is something really wrong with coffee tasting sour....how is it even possible? Other than that, it was just a good diner with good classics. Super friendly staff and a cool local vibe. Definitely a good place to stop into while in San Antonio.

Pete D.

Yelp
Great place for lunch or dinner. I used to purchase their mustard every couple of weeks. It was excellent and made in house daily. Schilos has now outsourced the manufacturing of the mustard. The "house" mustard is no longer made and in house, and is now no better than french's mustard. So disappointed in the new management.

Lamont W.

Yelp
I gotta say this place is a winner. The service was good, the restaurant is clean, and the food is fire. I recommend the Rueben fritters, there amazing. Also the chicken schnitzel is fire. I'll definitely come back next time I'm in town.

Yelp
We were looking for a fun breakfast place in San Antonio and discovered Schilos. This German delicatessen is located on street level, not the RiverWalk, and has a wonderful menu for breakfast, lunch or dinner and is the oldest restaurant in town. We visited for breakfast and stepped inside this cozy local establishment and were welcomed and seated promptly. The menu for breakfast has a nice variety of options without being over the top. I tried the breakfast schnitzel. It was just the right portion for me. A crunchy, breaded pork schnitzel filet topped with an over easy egg and accompanied with a fruit cup and biscuit. It was tasty and filling. Paired with a bottomless cup of their local brewed coffee this was just right for breakfast. There's a display case near the counter with a variety of dessert options but at this hour of the morning dessert wasn't on our mind. Next time for sure.

Yelp
An institution endures. Sitting at the bar in a spot that has served lunch for 117 years is a satisfying experience even before the food arrives. Schilo's is hard to beat for Old San Antonio atmosphere, and the staff is as friendly as you will find anywhere, anytime. Our favorites are the veggie omelette or the Reuben with extra kraut, but everything on the menu is worthy (chicken and dumplings and root beer on days when I can ignore my health plan). It's just a great way to step back in time and enjoy good food with family, friends, neighbors and tourists. Always worth the trip, even when there is a wait.

Xochilt S.

Yelp
Kind staff. Unique decorations. Great recommendations. We both enjoyed our food. My husband really liked the Schnitzel sandwich.

Yelp
My new favorite local spot in San Antonio! I've passed by it for years while coming to the downtown area for conventions, but never stopped in since the lines are always out the door! After today, I can see why the wait is always so long, and it's worth the wait! If you get the pretzel, the side of beer cheese is a MUST! I could pour it on everything it's so good! Out of the 3 types of schnitzel, the pork was my favorite! (But the others were delicious as well!) I've been told by some family friends that 'you have to get the cheesecake'...and I'm so happy I did! The portions are big, the prices are very reasonable and the staff was very friendly! The ambience is an old school German delicatessen, just as you would expect. If you're in San Antonio, the is a MUST for lunch!

Gloria S.

Yelp
Bring sweater! They do not validate parking in garage nearby, $10 an hour Good fresh home made food Deviled Eggs do not use Miracle whip so not as tasty Ask server about hauntings but not when busy working Reasonable priced Additional charge for gluten free bread

Yelp
My dad and I were at the Briscoe museum nearby and surprisingly all of the museum employees highly recommended this place for lunch. There was a line outside the door, but it was no more than a 20 minute wait. I loved how the outside and inside looked very vintage and historic. The waitress and the hostess were extremely nice. My dad and I enjoyed the freshly made in house root beer. It was honestly not that carbonated like the bottled ones in the store and very easy to drink. My dad is a root beer fanatic, so he loved all the refills. The food was amazing. We were recommended to try the reuben sandwich and the schnitzel sandwich. Both had phenomenal flavor and cooked to perfection. We tried the cheesecake for dessert and it was made differently but still a great way to end our wonderful experience. A definite must try if you're downtown

Yelp
I'm sad to say we found this place disappointing. We were excited to find this German restaurant with a Texas flare. It's supposedly the oldest restaurant in San Antonio. It's small, and there was a wait both days we stopped by for lunch. We didn't have time for the wait the first day and so we came back the next. Unfortunately, you have to wait outside where seating is limited with little shade. Once we were seated, we were able to take in the historic decor. The restaurant itself was really cute. Ultimately, we found the service and food disappointing. We looked at the menu outside and ordered as soon as we sat down. My friend had jagerschnitzel with green beans and potato salad. I ordered the wienerschnitzel with spaetzle and zucchini. The server was very friendly, but we waited 45 minutes for our lunch to arrive and we saw a couple other tables seated after us finishing their meals as ours were finally brought to the table. She wasn't very attentive, but she was very nice and friendly the two times she did come to our table throughout the entire visit. Finally, we were not fans of the food. There was too much Texan twist for our liking which left our cravings for German cuisine completely unsatisfied. The Jager sauce was a congealed something else. The green beans were mushy. The breading on our schnitzel had some unpleasamt flavors we couldn't identify and both were tough. My spaetzle never came out. I wasn't told they had run out of spaetzle until were we being served. They offered to make something else but after the 45 minute wait we already had, I just wanted to eat. But as previously said, it wasn't very appetizing. I mostly ate my sautéed zucchini, which was luke warm and unseasoned. I also finished my drink before the food arrived and was never offered a refill or anything else. Whenever I come across these old, popular, but not very good restaurants in a touristy area. I'm always left wondering if I just had a one off experience or whether the restaurant is only surviving because it's touristy and historic. Either way, it's not one we'd recommend other visitors to try.

Anna H.

Yelp
Delicious breakfast tacos and potato pancakes!!! We enjoyed the pancakes and coffee and quick service. The booths and decor are really neat. It's quite cold in there so bring your jacket.

Oscar R.

Yelp
The 5th star is for the outstanding service that we received from Joseph. He was extremely friendly and helpful! You can tell that he loves his job, and it shows with the high level of professionalism and customer service that he provides. We unknowingly arrived close to closing time of their first service. We thought for sure that we were going to be told to leave or just order something for take away. However, we were greeted by Joseph and he sat us down and explained that there was no rush, and that we would be taken care of, adding that we could stay as long as we liked. We were definitely relieved, especially since we were hungry. I am glad that we parked in the adjacent parking garage, otherwise we never would have realized that this place was there, since we entered the garage from the opposite side. I just happened to notice a sign for it as we walked down the stairs to get to the Briscoe Western Museum go a Yelp Elite Event. It is certainly not your usual deli. It has more of a saloon feel to it, with a dash of coffee shop, with a little diner mixed in. They had counter seating at the bar area, but we were seated at a cozy little half booth. The menu is full of all sorts of goodies, and you can order breakfast all day. I had my eye on the Pastrami Reuben. I opted for deviled eggs, rather than the standard fries or chips. My beverage of choice was the house made root beer. I also had a cup of split pea soup, which I was dying to try after seeing it on the menu. It did not disappoint! I was very pleased with my choices. Everything I ordered was delicious! My better half had the caprese melt with a side of the German potato salad, which I had a taste of and did not care for it. It was a little bland for me. She enjoyed her meal as well. I definitely want to make this a regular spot. Everything is reasonably priced and a great value for what you get. A welcome surprise, especially since it is in a touristy area, being located in walking distance to the Riverwalk. I definitely want to try everything on the menu! I do believe I will too.

Maddie L.

Yelp
Over all a great spot, we loved the atmosphere and all the old pictures up on the walls. Food was good, biscuits were a thicker texture than normal but still delicious. Our waitress was very nice and prompt given the busy morning. Only word of warning we have for others is the water tastes like it does near the coast, more earthy than some may be able to handle. Not bad but not everyone's cup of tea for sure. Lovely spot and we'll be visiting again when we have guests from out of town.

Norm C.

Yelp
This place was awesome. We sat at the bar to make service quicker. Be aware this place fills up fast. Definitely try the root beer. It's really good. Figured as much as several people were buying cases to take home. They have a great German menu and I decided to have the sausage plate with sauerkraut and red cabbage. Excellent taste for this dish. Heather our server was great and kept those root beer mugs full. This place has lots of history and great food. Try it out.

Bill W.

Yelp
On Feb 18th we had another terrific time at Shilo's. The food was great, as usual. Our server, Daniel, was outstanding. He was courteous, attentive, thorough, and fun. We always look forward to stopping here whenever we're in town. We're never disappointed.

Marian S.

Yelp
The arrived cold. The schnitzel was a frozen pork cutlet. German potato salad was not good. Do not I mean do not order the Mac n cheese. Absolutely horrible. The brat was the best dish on the plate and it came out cold. service was fast and friendly. I would not recommend this place if you ever had German food.

Sue F.

Yelp
Schilo's claims to be the oldest restaurant in San Antonio. Upon entering the building, there is no doubt that the building and fixtures are old - the old fashioned wooden counter and booths and the paneled walls lend to the homey ambiance, though, the taxidermy all around the back room was a little disarming for this non-hunter. 10:30 on a quiet Thursday morning was about a short 10 minute wait for our party of 8. I imagine the wait on weekends could be quite long. (It's worth it though!) Once seated, we were cheerily greeted by our sweet server. She took our drink orders and gave us a moment to peruse the abundant menu. The expected breakfast foods with the inclusion of potato pancakes and breakfast tacos, schnitzels, deli sandwiches, burgers, salads and a whole list of sides round out the offerings. It was so hard to decide but I finally settled on weinerschnitzel. The hubs had the potato pancakes , my SIL had the Reuben and the rest of our party opted for traditional breakfast faves. It didn't take long for our food to come. The large table was almost too small for the quantity of food. My weinerschnitzal was delicious - thin, crispy tender - just the way it should be. The red cabbage was good if unremarkable but I really did not care for the German potato salad. It also came with a thick slice of rye bread. The potato pancakes weren't huge but they were perfect. They were served with applesauce and sour cream. The Reuben wouldn't rival one from a New York deli but my SIL still really enjoyed it. Except for a to-go box for me, not another morsel of food remained on the table. One of the house specialties is root beer. They also offer spiked root beer. Since it was my birthday, I decided to day-drink and ordered a one. Not sure what it was called but bit had rum and kahlua. It was so strong that I had to water it down with more root beer so I was able to drink it. It was good but I wouldn't order it again. Schiloh's is very reasonable. VERY reasonable. That's countered by the (un-validated) paid parking. Bring your appetite but be prepared for a potentially long wait.-

Susan C.

Yelp
13 Ian 2024 Bummer!!! Out of the homemade root beer! How can this happen!? And then after reviewing the menu - they no longer serve the Papa Fritz sandwich!!! This was a sandwich with ham, turkey and cheeses on rye. Served with chips and a cup of split pea soup. Now GONE!! Our server who'd been there a month, didn't know why it was discontinued, just that she'd been told it was no longer available. Rats. The husband went for the meatloaf today and I settled for the ham and Swiss sandwich. Wasn't quite the same. Drank water, because NO ROOT BEER!

Jeff W.

Yelp
Terrific German deli in the heat of SanAntonio right next to the riverwalk. I just had a few minutes for lunch. It was crowded but was able to go right to the bar and had a delicious chicken schnitzel sandwich. They got me in and out quickly.

Jason Z.

Yelp
We were downtown and I heard many great things about Schilo's Deli. The history is definitely rich. We were greeted quickly and shown to our table. We ordered the root beer because that is one of the things they are known for. It's homemade and was really good. I also ordered the Reuben sandwich, which they are famous for. It was good but not the best I've had. I was a little disappointed in this restaurant but will be back because there were things on the menu that I would like to try. The vibe was cool and the staff was very friendly.

Marcella Z.

Yelp
We were downtown and decided to try this deli. The delicatessen is the oldest restaurant in San Antonio and really is like stepping back in the past. We were greeted quickly after walking in and taken to a wooden booth. Our waiter greeted us within a few minutes and took our drink order. One of the things this restaurant is known for is their root beer, so of course I had to try it. For my meal I ordered a Clubhouse on a croissant. Everything was great! The root beer was fantastic! My sandwich was stuffed with lots of turkey and well worth the cost. Give this place a try if you're in the area. There's something for everyone.

LeRoy K.

Yelp
Schilos is an SATX institution, and worth a visit. Our server Joseph was very attentive and welcoming and made us aware of meal options and specialties we might not have been able to find from the large menu. We just had a couple of small lunches: two half sandwiches (chicken salad on sourdough and pastrami on rye) with German potato salad, and I also had their pea soup. The sandwiches were not elaborate or huge so we were happy with them. The pea soup was a lot like what I grew up with (I liked my mom's German potato salad more but Schilto's was ok). Their 'famous' root beer was great and the coffee was very good. Our fresh fruit tart dessert was a perfect little bite. It's a tidy place with great staff. Not too fancy and the prices were great: $31 for two served lunches is rare now.

Ann F.

Yelp
The service from Heather was excellent, she was super prompt and helpful. I enjoyed my sausage platter and really loved the kraut! It was not overly vinegary nor sweet, a perfect hybrid. The spaetzle was a little gloopy for my liking but the flavor was good. Neither of the sausages were greasy or too fatty, mild in flavor. My friends each had burgers and they were VERY salty. I love salt and I thought they were too much, so be aware of that.

Sherry L.

Yelp
Great German-Texan brunch, which is really just large portions of German dishes and typical brunch dishes. The taste of Germany is a great deal. For $14, you get a bratwurst, a decent sized schnitzel, potato salad, red cabbage, and kraut, served with mushroom gravy. Omelette and French toast looked decent too. Service was fast and friendly.

William M.

Yelp
A classic in the SA area. Schilos Sampler was awesome...lots of brats and a huge pretzel...cheese...savory pickles. I thought the Reuben was rather stingy on the amount of meat, however...not close to 1/3 lb. Good service. Would try again.

Christopher F.

Yelp
We got in early she stopped by for breakfast. Our server was very welcoming. I had the basic breakfast and a potato pancake. Both were great. I love the feel of the deli. Quick service.

Marc A.

Yelp
Schilos is a great example of why you need to keep your head up when you walk. If you just go to San Antonio and stay down below on the Riverwalk, you'll only experience subpar food and drink and not the best the city has to offer. Get off the Riverwalk get up on street level and go to Schilos at least for lunch. If you're used to New York style delis or Jewish delis, this is a little different but still very high-quality and really good Ruben and pastrami style sandwiches and German potato salad. Mix in a cold beverage and you've got it made. Definitely worth the trip.

Elise M.

Yelp
Delicious lunch spot near the Riverwalk! Sure, it's touristy. It is the oldest restaurant in San Antonio after all but Schilos isn't just a tourist stop. We loved everything we ordered from the house made root beer to the Ruben sandwich. The sides were all very flavorful and unique. You can't get spaetzel, German potato salad, and corn casserole just anywhere. The food combined with friendly service and an old school delicatessen vibe make for a fun and delicious experience. Absolutely recommend coming here for a casual lunch while in the area.

Tad D.

Yelp
Really underwhelming. Dry pastrami on rye, needed a gallon of the mustard sauce to wash it down. Certainly not the paragon of sandwiches like Shapiro's or Domilises. IN short if you like Dave & Busters or BW's, this is a place for you.

Jim R.

Yelp
It's awesome to get to visit historic restaurants, it's even better when the food and service exceeds all expectations. Schilos did that. Betsy and I sat at the bar, and Bello was a perfect server. Personable, available, funny and attentive. We ordered the chicken and biscuits with a couple sunny side up eggs, and a bowl of split peas soup. Yes, soup, it's not just for breakfast anymore. The fried chicken was the best we have ever had, spicy panko crust tender and juicy. The breading stayed attached and was awesome. The split pea soup was thick and great. I know it's kind of a tourist place but I'll definitely be back again. OMG good

Leticia S.

Yelp
So I was here for lunch during Jury Duty. The food was pretty good. They have Pepsi products, so a Diet Dr. Pepper was my choice of drink. I had a breakfast dish recommended by my server. The gravy was delish and had big chunks of sausage in it. The bacon is the stuff of DREAMS. The eggs were a bit salty, but everything else was quality. My server was funny and very personable. I enjoyed the diner ambiance as well. Overall, I would return.

Joseph E.

Yelp
Staying downtown for Fiesta week, I look forward to coming back to one of my favorite downtown breakfast places.....Schilos, pronounced Sheelows. This old world German deli has been serving up tasty treats since 1917 so that must tell you something about their food. On this occasion, I sat at the bar and my very nice waitress introduced herself and took my order: the Papa Fritz breakfast with scrambled eggs, sausage, hash browns, biscuit, and a pancake. It didn't take long for the order to come out and so I dig in. The eggs are scrambled softly, just how I like them, the hash browns are nice and crunchy on top and soft underneath, the sausage patties are very tasty and not overly salty, the biscuit is soft and moist, and finally the pancake we perfect after adding some butter and syrup. Theses classic recipes have stood the test of time for a reason and are my favorites when I'm staying downtown. If you happen to be in the downtown area and looking for a great breakfast/brunch/lunch spot then do yourself a favor and check out Schilos. Oh, by the way, they make their own Root beer in house. Get some!

Glenn R.

Yelp
We had a terrific breakfast there the other day. It's a marvelous old place with tons of character. We got there a few minutes after it opened on Sunday and it was almost full. We ordered a schnitzel with egg, it comes with hash browns and a biscuit & gravy. We also ordered a cream pancake and a potato pancake. We shared everything and it was more than enough for two people. The schnitzel was delicious, crisp & tasty. Egg was perfect. biscuit was light as a feather. The cream and potato pancakes were marvelous too. The hash browns were average, but nothing special. I'd have loved to have tasted their home made Root Beer but I gave up sugar a few years ago. Maybe next time I can have a sip or two as Root Beer has been a favorite of mine forever. I'd also love to try their Reuben with their home made mustard too. Next time we'll go for lunch. This is a place that's definitely worth a visit!

Craig R.

Yelp
Food was great and our server, Joseph, was amazing. It was also very reasonably priced. Would definitely go back next time we're in SA.

Becky G.

Yelp
The oldest restaurant in SA!! We love the German food! The Reuben sandwich is amazing. Pea soup is excellent ! My take on the "spiked" root beer is Don't!! Weird flavor. We had a new waitress so she got a little flustered but managed ok in the lunch rush hour. Only open till 2:30.

Greg F.

Yelp
It was pretty good, but not sure it matches all the hype. Atmosphere was noisy, but lively and decor is nostalgic. Service was pretty quick and friendly. I was in SA for a weekend and there was a wait here every time i lassed by. The portions are pretty big for breakfast and cheap.

Nichole C.

Yelp
Great German food! Excellent service. Sat at bar and was comfortable. Clean and tidy restaurant

Ron H.

Yelp
Incredible food, great service and prices are are like back in the 80's. This is a must if you visit San Antonio!

Fidel G.

Yelp
Came from out of state on the way to New Orleans and made a stop in this city. Walked in and glad we did our food was delicious no complains. We were greeted immediately with a smile. Kristin was our host and she was amazing ask for her she took great care of us making sure we had everything we needed refilled our drinks before we even asked. Removed finished plates. She was very pleasant, we highly recommend coming in here for some great German food you can't go wrong menu has a nice selection.

Patrick R.

Yelp
Flew out of SAT and some friends happened to be here too, de we decided to meet up for breakfast before I would head home. This supposed to be the oldest restaurant in town and it is German. It has a German feel as we walked in and sat down. It reminded me of the restaurants I've been to living in Germany. Great ambiance and atmosphere. We enjoyed some coffee and the Papa Fritz breakfast with bratwurst. Loved it! Service is Texas friendly and the food is great!

Yelp
My order: pastrami on rye, side of chips. What I got: a Reuben on pumpernickel with a side of fries. Slow kitchen and the root beer tasted just like A&W, or Barqs, or any other overly sweet root beer.

Wonderfully authentic German food with a great cafe experience and a waitstaff that is unparalleled, this is a "don't miss" on your visit to the city of San Antonio. if you are lucky enough to get Daniel for your server, even better! thanks, Pam

Yelp
Traditional German restaurant in downtown San Antonio serving fabulous food! Reuben sandwich, schnitzel German beer! This place has it all! Great service. Reasonable prices!

Yelp
The food was amazing. I had the sweet cream pancakes, potato pancakes, and bratwurst. Wife had French toast and said it was delicious. Waitress was friendly and helpful. They had a lot vintage decor and original furniture. Try the house made root beer.

Yelp
Super fast service! We were seated immediately during a busy lunch hour and our first visit. Root beers were brought to us in a chilled mug. I Can describe the root beer as smooth and rich! The Reuben was delicious! Very unique potato salad. Breakfast was good. The biscuit was made from scratch and a generous portion. Worth a visit! Come try the oldest restaurant in San Antonio. Casual sandwich shop with a lot of history. Take a walk downtown or on the Riverwalk. Would love to return to try more sandwiches!

Yelp
We had high hopes, but it took three tries to get my wife's order correct. Azalea, our waitress was very good, but they just could not get this right. I ate my breakfast before it got cold, my wife ended up eating after I was finished. The breakfast sandwich was fine, nothing special as were the hashbrowns. The Bloody Mary was good...but I've had many many others that were better. We loved being "upstairs" (three steps). There were great old photos and postcards. To us, the setting was the best part of this meal. Unfortunately, we were not comped for the avocado toast which was a huge disappointment.
