"A bar of some shape or form has existed within these walls since 1903. Then, it was built as an outpost for Schlitz Brewery to bring their product more easily to the masses. Today, you can still have a Schlitz, at Schubas, thank God. If you aren't here for the Schlitz pints, it's likely because you came for a gig. The back room houses a intimate but comfortable stage that books plenty of acclaimed indie acts. Schubas is one of those rare neighborhood bars that people will also make the trek to, for one reason or another. The place just oozes "Chicago." - Studio Malt
"If you’ve been following any Soundcloud artists, chances are they’ll be playing a show at Schuba’s. This Lakeview bar is a popular stop for up-and-coming artists, so it’s an excellent resource on what music is “cool." The bar serves food that isn't allowed in the performance space, so you’ll want to get there a little earlier if you want to finish your fried chicken sandwich before the show starts." - john ringor, nick allen

"For a late-night party I’d head to Schubas for the Official Unofficially Official Club Renaissance Party hosted by Miss Toto and Pepper Jelly on Sunday, July 23 (9:30 p.m. to 2 a.m.), where under the disco ball you can expect a night of looks, stellar energy, and highly curated drag performances from local artists including Chanel Mercedes Benz, Sasha Love, Lila Star Escada, Dida Ritz, and more; tickets are $25 online." - Naomi Waxman
"If you’ve been following any new artists who just started touring, chances are they’ll be showing up at Schuba’s. This Lakeview bar is a common stop up-and-coming artists, so it’s great for discovering new music. The bar serves food, but since it isn’t allowed in the performance space, you’ll want to get there a little earlier if you want to finish your fried chicken sandwich before the show starts." - John Ringor

"Entangled in a high-profile legal scandal, the 34-year-old bar and music venue has been thrust into the spotlight after its former owner, Michael Johnston, was forced out as chief executive of Audiotree. Johnston pled not guilty in December to allegations that he and his wife made inappropriate recordings of two women at their Roscoe Village home, and now faces two additional felony charges after two more women came forward claiming he used spy cameras to record them—one allegedly recorded nude in 2019 while dog- and housesitting, and another, a housekeeper, recorded in 2019 and 2020 while fully clothed; Johnston is due in court on April 4, while the first complaint filed in October 2020 involving Johnston and his wife is set for March 14." - Naomi Waxman
