Scotch Bonnet - Review - SWAT - Atlanta - The Infatuation

"Scotch Bonnet has been serving up spicy, satisfying Jamaican food in the heart of SWATS for decades. Just like its namesake, the food here brings real heat and a richness that keeps regulars coming back. It operates out of a container-style building—bigger than your average food truck—with a small side patio that’s mostly unused, since this is a takeout-only setup. A sign out front makes it clear: this isn’t fast food. Orders usually take more than 15 minutes, but that’s a sacrifice we’d gladly make for their tender jerk chicken, slow-cooked brown stew, smoky wings, and oxtail meat that easily pulls off the bone. Portions are generous, so roll up with your crew and walk away with a hearty meal that’ll help you clear your sinuses. Food Rundown Brown Stew Chicken Savory and falling-off-the-bone tender. The gravy tastes like it’s been slow-cooked for days, so ask for a little extra gravy to soak over your rice. Jerk Wings Whole wings, smoked, and coated in Scotch Bonnet’s signature jerk rub. Spicy and great. Jerk Chicken These are juicy and well-spiced. Not quite Negril roadside-level, but still one of the best things here. Oxtails These slow-cooked oxtails have a smoky depth and all the richness you’d expect from a great oxtail stew. A must-order here. Chicken Patty A little dry—but flaky and with the familiar warmth of curry chicken. We order one every time. Peas & Rice A classic done right. The perfect base for soaking up all the sauces and juices." - Jacinta Howard

15 Underrated Restaurants to Try Around Atlanta

"This yellow food trailer parked near the corner of County Line Road in south Fulton County has been serving satisfying Jamaican fare for more than a decade. Whether picking up takeout from the roadside stand or hanging around in the screened seating area, Scotch Bonnett serves up a menu full of comforting flavors and spices. Try the jerk chicken, but don’t skip the smoked jerk lamb and sauteed coconut salmon. This spot will also jerk a whole turkey with a week’s notice. If torn between menu options, go for the “heavy hitter” combo consisting of up to seven meats on the plate: jerk sausage, wings, pork, curry oxtails, sauteed snapper, salmon, and shrimp." - Beth McKibben

Google
This my place for Jamaican food! I use to be a curry chicken lady for years. Every since I been eating here, I love me some brown stew chicken!! They know I don't play about extra sauce, cabbage not over cooked and my plantain better be on point. I'm always greeted with a smile and even though they don't like taking pictures, I always get my favorites to pose for me. I always leave with a hot and heavy plate! 🤗

Google
Scotch Bonnet never fails on delivery of good food and good customer service. By the time I ordered my food, it was a line of people waiting to order. You get great portions of food. And it's authentic Jamaican food. They have their own Seamoss drinks and other flavorful juices. I highly recommend that you try them out. It's order and go, nowhere to sit down to eat. Enjoy!!!

Google
When I pass by I saw a line of people so I figured it was pretty good. When my good friend took me to eat I was pleasantly surprised. The plantains was the best I've had and oh my God the cabbage was off the chain. The smoke meat was perfect however the rice was a little undercooked. I would definitely recommend this place. The best side of the road jerk chicken joint to date

Google
Came highly recommended, didn’t disappoint. Best oxtails of all time, they’re the GOAT :)

Google
⭐ 1 star Disappointed. Used to be good—now it’s a mess. The last two times I ate here, the food was full of trash— tiny bones, whole peppercorns, cloves. It’s incredibly salty, and once I even found an entire scotch bonnet in my plate that lit my mouth on fire. This used to be one of my favorite spots, but now it’s literally a plate of regret. I won’t be back.

Google
Decided to try out this little restaurant. I pass by it everyday leaving work and I LOVE Caribbean food. I ordered Jerk chicken. Down side, it only comes in "one size". I will say this: If your a "jerk connoisseur" looking for that scotch bonnet flavor, with all the right spices blended together and marinated to perfection.....DO NOT order the Jerk chicken. But!...If your someone who really don't know what Jerk is suppose to taste like or know what flavors should be bouncing off your taste pallet, then go for it. On the other hand, rice and cabbage were delicious. The chicken however, is just "Smoked". That's it. Just smoked chicken. Maybe their other dishes are satisfying. Unfortunately, I won't have the opportunity of knowing. Usually judge the rest of the food by how well the jerk is. A hard C-

Google
This was my first time having Jamaican food at Scotch Bonnet. The customer service was hmmmmm mediocre at best. They did have some good music playing during the wait which was nice. The beef patty (photo attached) had a brand stamp on it. I have been trying to find a great beef patty around Atlanta. This one was not bad but not my favorite. The Jerk Chicken and Plantains were my favorite part of the meal. I don't love Plantains but I eat them occasionally and I would eat these again. The Chicken was well made and had a distinct flavor, in my opinion, I am thinking there was just some love in there!! Most Jamaican restaurants that I have patronized in Atlanta either ask if you want extra jerk sauce or provide it. They didn't and ultimately, that was my only draw back. I was satisfied with the meal. I had it for lunch and dinner so $16 was not bad for lunch/dinner. They accept debit cards.

Google
The food was good. The places can use some fixing up but they have a great score. The prices are questionable only because they are not displayed clearly. But this place was recommended so I tired it. The jerk chicken was grilled perfectly and the plantain were sweet and delicious.

Yelp
My 1st impression of the food is good. Really good. They gave huge portions and it was seasoned so well. My boyfriend stopped by this place and picked us up 2 plates. He's a people person so he talked to everyone and he said the staff was so friendly and pleasant. I can't speak to what the ambience was but the only reason he stopped is because they had a line and he likes to try new places. I'm glad he did

Yelp
Still my fave for oxtails, rice/peas, cabbage and plantains...no frills/no exceptions. Lol I love it!! #Southside

Yelp
Flavors on point! Owners are hella nice, and hook it up on the servings! Vibe in the parking lot is chill. What more can you ask for? Def coming back when I visit the A.

Yelp
I got the Curry chicken dinner . It was great don't let the outside of the restaurant fool you they can cook cook. Service was good only took like 15 mins

Asia W.

Yelp
I've only tried the jerk chicken, oxtail, and beef patty so far, and everything has been tasty and full of flavor. The portions are generous, and definitely worth the price. Percy, who runs the place, is incredibly kind and clearly works very hard. He's the best! Sometimes there's a bit of a wait, but he's usually handling everything on his own--so just be patient. It's well worth it! I'll definitely be coming back.
google avatar

Torrey P.

Yelp
$29 for a wing plate!? I understand this economy is in the toilet so it is what it is. The issue was, the food wasn't worth the cost. The wings dried out and salty. The cabbage was as close to raw as you can get with no flavor.
google avatar

Yelp
I hate to do this....but I would hate more for anyone else to have to go through this. DISCLAIMER - If you are from NYC with west indian background or actually born in Caribbean, don't eat it. I'm not sure what the benchmark is for great caribbean food, because other than maybe 1 or 2 Golden Krusts, I have not had it in the Atl Metro area. This was another ridicously rated high disappointment. Gravy was basically BLACK for brown stew. It was sooooo sweet with no real spice to it. Rice was dry (without the thick black gravy on it). Plaintains were mushy. A whopping $28. Long wait because apparently they cook to order, which I question for meals like oxtail. They have no seafood on the menu.
google avatar

Jeanna W.

Yelp
Went as soon as they opened and called the order in, luckily there wasn't a lot of folks there that early. Friendly staff, great food options. Cute spot for the good truck even had a few benches under a covered space to sit and eat. Got oxtail and jerk wing platters along with beef Pattie's and cocoa bread. Great flavor, season, and spice across the board. Oxtail was tender and easy to pull from bone. Only wish there was oxtail stock and same with the cabbage. They both lacked "juice" but still taste good nonetheless.

Yelp
When I first stumbled upon Scotch Bonnett someone referred to it as the best Jamaican food in Atlanta and I wish I never heard that because knowing me I was going to be a harsh critic! The place is located outside in a parking lot kind of situation, it is an open lot with parking and plenty of seating so you can dine while you are there, but it is outside in an open space which I didn't mind at all. Had cool picnic tables with the colors of the Jamaican flag that I enjoyed a lot and also had music playing on a loudspeaker. There was a bit of a line when I got there which I always consider a good thing because that indicates it is in demand, the guy at the register was unusually nice for a Jamaican establishment which goes against everything I learned in NY about how a cashier should be (inside joke lol). But he took my order quickly and I had my food pretty fast. The food was good, not the best I ever had but again I am from NY and I was being super critical because it is supposedly the best. I got curry and jerk chicken dinners they were both really good made fresh and absolutely filled my appetite.

Yelp
Where do I begin! Scotch Bonnet is a street side Jamaican eatery with the best food and best vibes. I ordered with a 3 person queue and about 4 orders in front of me and was served in 15 minutes. The barbecue was going and they were churning out great quality food. I ordered the oxtail plate which comes with rice and peas, cabbage and some plantain, as well as a half pound of their jerk to try out all for around 30 dollars which is a steal in my opinion. My expectations were exceeded the flavor was 10/10 and the spice was perfect for an island girl like myself . If you're ever in the area stop by and grab a plate you will not be disappointed
google avatar

Ajea P.

Yelp
This place is a food truck fyi, this is not somewhere you can go sit down and eat. I got the Meat combo: Curry Goat & Oxtail comes with rice n peas, cabbage, 2 plaintains. I enjoyed the goat...but I've definitely have had better. The oxtail I wasn't a huge fan of, taste wise but someone else may be. The taste was more of a bbq taste on the outside, like a bbq jerk type taste? Can't really explain it. I got my order within 5 min. Outside of the truck was clean and there was music playing while you wait for your food. My total was $35 for the meat combo.
google avatar

Giselle S.

Yelp
I honestly don't think I've had real Jamaican food before but it was delicious! Friendly staff, food was very well seasoned and the meat was tender.
google avatar

Harlem M.

Yelp
Over the last couple years the food taste and quality have gone down my last two visits have been bad the cabbage has a funny smell to them both time couldn't eat them they short you on the meat the rice has had to much gravy on them don't know if they are under new ownership but I won't be back
google avatar

Richard N.

Yelp
Giving a 5 for the experience.... I've NEVER walked up to place an order for anything Caribbean and be handed my order as if I were at a fast food place. INCREDIBLE!!!!! Now I hope it's good... Beef patty is really good, as is the cabbage. Haven't tried the chicken yet.

Al L.

Yelp
Disrespectful front end help. Don't be cursing at your customer because you think they won't understand your Jamaican language. And as a Jamaican u food not that great. Rude.

Kyla B.

Yelp
So yum, the guy was really nice and I didn't wait too long either, food has a nice spice

Derrick J.

Yelp
The food is good but the customer service sucks. They take your order like they are doing you a favor. And the music in the parking lot is loud as f!k. Turn dat sh!t down.

Isha H.

Yelp
DELICIOUS!! never had a bad meal at scotch bonnet !!! This food is cooked with love. Make the guy at the window repeat your order if it's more than one dish , he gets confused alot
google avatar

Shaun C.

Yelp
My husband and I ordered the trio oxtail, curry goat and bbq jerk chicken with normal sides. It was delicious I will return when I'm in the area. Highly recommend.
google avatar

Lynn G.

Yelp
Food was amazing! Don't expect great customer service or ambiance, but you will enjoy the food. Little hole in the wall sort of but great authentic jaimaican food! I will definitely be back. Just go for good food!
google avatar

Karin W.

Yelp
When I tell y'all this place is everything !! If you want some real deal Jamaican this is your place . We live in TN and anytime we're in Atlanta we have to come here . We normally get the oxtail but tried the ribs today as well they were a party in my mouth dancing on my tongue !! 10/10 #greenshirt
google avatar

Lisa C.

Yelp
Food was great! Straight off the grill. I would recommend. Great Jerk Pork! Large portions.

Caleb M.

Yelp
The curry chicken here is out of this world good. The service is smooth going for the most part. I'll be back again and strongly recommend if you like Jamaican food
google avatar

Levette D.

Yelp
Not impressed with my meal today. I've been here numerous times, and normally they are delicious, but today I think I came too early and received leftovers. I ordered the jerk chicken with brown stew gravy and chicken patties. The food was dry and just not good today. I will give them another chance because I know it has been way better.
google avatar

Dante W.

Yelp
The best Jamaican spot in the city of Atlanta. Their food is authentic. There is no jerk sauce needed for their jerk chicken. None at all! The meat is seasoned to perfection, the food is a bit pricey, but they give you so much food that it's well worth it. I wish they had festival! I would give them 10 stars if they did lol. Try it, you will not be disappointed. The jerk chicken is juicy, the oxtails are nicely sized and the sides are delicious.

DuluthD D.

Yelp
My husband has been going there at least 10 years now. Consistently delish. Large portions. Oxtails are a little pricey but very good
google avatar

Chris Y.

Yelp
ALWAYS good food!!!!! I wish they were open everyday . The bbq jerk chicken and the brown stew chicken is GOOD!!!!
google avatar

Ina Imeisha R.

Yelp
By far one of the best Jamaican food restaurants that I've eaten at throughout the metro Atlanta area. I always choose Scotch Bonnet first. You can drive up and grab your food without having to wait terribly long for your order. I highly recommend this spot! I've been a patron for many years!
google avatar

Charles R.

Yelp
Real deal authentic jerk spot. Been coming here for years. Wish they had jerk sauce but it's so good you really don't need it.
google avatar

Monique P.

Yelp
Great food! I absolutely love their Oxtals, my favorite is the Curry Goat, the Jerk Chicken is always tender but it's a hit or miss. The service or good taking the orders is not friendly at all. There's no ambiance here due to being a parked food truck, you must stand in line, but it's worth the wait. Now, fast forward! I just read their health scores and I am highly disappointed, enough said! I will not return until I review an updated health score.
google avatar

Sonya W.

Yelp
This was my first visit here the food looks amazing people in line was bragging about the food. I spent a lot of money here for several guest I had. I ordered the curry chicken dinner when we got home my plate was so salty and I also had the beef patties and chicken patties were very salty. I took my plate back out of 3 different plates. The guy was so rude to me . He " said No one else complained! Get your money back and Go" I just wanted another plate to enjoy as everyone else did. He would not here me out at all. This is not Good Service No matter how good everyone else food is . Mean and Rude. I will never go back again !Chicken PattiesCurry Chicken

James B.

Yelp
* cleanliness is below acceptable standards * sanitation is below acceptable standards * price versus value are not compatible. the owner is overcharging his customers * rudeness- there is no excuse to be rude to customers. this person is in the wrong business he is rude and does not prioritize the health of his customers! how can you respect a business owner who receives consistent complaints about his rude and unprofessional behavior and is too lazy to maintain a clean and safe business? we must petition the health department to shut this business down to protect the well-being of the community. if he

Yelp
If you have Caribbean roots or just love Caribbean food, this is the place. I love the stew chicken...
google avatar

LaQuisha M.

Yelp
I love Scotch Bonnet. It is my favorite place to get Jerk chicken. They have the best Cabbage.
google avatar

Jerel C.

Yelp
First time here to order at Scotch and I doubt it'll be my last if it wasn't for the food to say the least. I'd hate to be the bearer of bad news but if your expecting an positive vibe during order taking this isn't the place. I'm pretty sure the guy there is the owner but he acts as if he doesn't want to be there, just staring and has the worst attitude. Honestly I didn't expect much from the food in the beginning given Im not necessary attracted to Jamaican food and after approaching that fella I was a little hesitant to still show interesting in placing the order which I came soon to finding out would have been a big Mistake! THE FOOD! Surpassed all my expectations, me and my Best friend ordered the wing dinner absolutely amazing and the flavors were on point. Also given I'm not a fan of beans which were in the rice and I'm not a fan of crunchy cabbage which they serve here I wasn't disappointed one bit with the meal everything was season to perfection. Now unfortunately the drink I wasn't to thrilled about either, lacked pineapple flavor and fizzed. It reminds me of a flat ( water downed) soda pop. 9/10

Jordan G.

Yelp
Good food, unpleasant service. Will still recommend to anyone. The jerk, stew chicken, beef and chicken patties are all great.

No W.

Yelp
These guys are not the nicest, but the food is great! Don't expect hospitality. They don't take direction well, at all.
google avatar

Angela O.

Yelp
Stopped for lunch on the way back from work. This is possibly the best Jamaican food I've ever had, to include actual food in jamaica. The rice and peas were flavorful and the cabbage was perfectly seasoned. I ordered a jerk chicken dinner, which included 5 pieces of chicken.
google avatar

Adam W.

Yelp
Thee best jerk chicken, rice and beans! Delish! And those plantains are fire! Check it out!
google avatar

S C.

Yelp
I pulled and knew it would be tasty. Looks very authentic Jamaican road side. The food was very good but the customer service is lacking. I stayed polite. Again the food was good.

Daily N.

Yelp
If you're from Atlanta , then you already know Scotch Bonnet is the ONLY place you'll find authentic AMAZING Jamaican food !! I've been eating here for years & the main thing that keeps me coming back is the CONSISTENCY ! The food Is always perfectly seasoned . Never fails !! This place has great customer service & the staff here treats you like FAMILY! Want to know what to try on the menu ? TRY EVERYTHING ...no matter what you order you & your stomach will be happy !
google avatar

Whit W.

Yelp
Stop at this gem! It's a must if you're in the area! They were sold out of all seafood items (literally) early morning on a Saturday but nonetheless, the jerk chicken plate was fire! Well seasoned, juicy and tender! They were also sold out of all sea moss drinks so I settled for a pineapple ginger. Will definitely be back. Just hope I have the option to try the jerk salmon or shrimp plate(s).
google avatar

Matthew V.

Yelp
Fast service.. Took like 10 mins... Steady traffic for lunch time, outside eating available... I ordered jerk chicken dinner w/ beef patties... Big size portions, a lot of flavor, I would prefer more jerk sauce/ gravy but it was still good. Always good to support local business in the community
google avatar

Clifton G.

Yelp
I truly enjoyed the food!! This was my 3rd time. once I get back into the area, I'm sure I'm going to go back there because the food hasn't let me down yet

K B.

Yelp
While the food has been good over the years, their recent score of 49 makes it a 100% no go! The location needs to be brought up to standards.
google avatar

Laure J.

Yelp
I have been craving some bomb jerk since ive been in the city. I was actually sitting in front of my gym when i realized my headphones weren't charged & decided food was more important anyway Yelp led me to Scotch Bonnet & I was soooo excited when I pulled up & smelled all that smoked goodness. The venue is nothing fancy- basically a food truck & some outdoor bench seating. it actually looks like really cool place to throw an event during the spring or summer (stay tuned) I decided to forgo the carbs & got 10 jerk wings. Like I said, the smell alone let me know I was in for something GOOD but BABY...the FLAVOR *insert kombucha girl gif* !!! sooooo good! I had to really control myself not to crush all ten before I made it home. This is my spot now, when I want jerk I will always come back for some of that good ol Scotch Bonnet!
google avatar

Quest B.

Yelp
The good wasn't that good I preferred the oxtails and it was over cooked and tough I won't be going back also the cashier has a bad attitude and really rude
google avatar

Chantele C.

Yelp
Great Jamaican flavor food, the oxtail was amazing not too soft or hard but perfect texture and flavor. Service was quick and mi food was hot. Overall great food and experience.
google avatar

Amber S.

Yelp
I enjoyed the combo plate with jerk chicken and jerk ribs. I forgot to ask for oxtail gravy and didn't even mind. Food was juicy and flavorful. I will return. I can't wait to go back. I can taste it now. I will have to get a picture next time. I ate too fast to capture anything.
