"Big-wig chef Alfred Schilling returned to San Francisco kitchens, after stints in France and as a chocolatier, by reopening an iconic restaurant neighboring Land’s End. It’s as big a deal as it sounds. More importantly, the food — a simple menu starring mushroom tartines and Cuban sandwiches — matches the pristine views of the Pacific Ocean crashing through the eucalyptus forest. Online ordering is available." - Paolo Bicchieri
"The 46-year-old Seal Rock Inn Restaurant has been closed since 2020, but as of January 2, it’s finally back. Chef Alfred Schilling took over the space and gave it a Parisian bistro makeover, adding items like escargot and a bouillabaisse-inspired omelet to the menu. The restaurant is currently offering breakfast and lunch, with dinner on the way. Online ordering is available." - Paolo Bicchieri
"Seal Rock Inn closed in 2020, but four years later, the Lands End restaurant is back under new ownership. It’s now a French bistro that continues to serve breakfast classics, including pain perdu, scrambles, and tartines. Lunch and dinner are coming soon." - julia chen 1
"We once went to Seal Rock Inn Restaurant when it was dumping rain. And even though ocean views are usually the main draw of this French bistro, the stormy backdrop made the eggs, french toast, and mugs of hot chocolate and whipped cream feel that much cozier. And thunderstorm or not, there’s nothing like those Lands End views to remind you why you love living next to water (and paying the rent for it)." - julia chen 1
"Opened in 1974; closed in 2020 for four years After closing in 2020, Seal Rock Inn Restaurant reopened under new ownership with a French twist. But the main draw of the San Francisco diner is still the location—it’s perched about as close as you can get to the Pacific without needing to squeeze into a wetsuit. The new spot feels pretty divorced from the original history of the family-run restaurant, with statues, checkered floors, and bistro-ified dishes that are decent but nothing you’ll be pining for days later. You’re really here to gaze through the huge, ocean-facing windows. Or, at the very least, sip an old-school hot chocolate with a tuft of whipped cream." - anne cruz
