The 15 Best Restaurants In West Seattle

"Sometimes we go into this fish market (that doubles as a restaurant) to buy Alaskan salmon to make for dinner. And sometimes, after one whiff of crab cakes sizzling in the kitchen, we kiss those plans goodbye and eat here instead. Not only does Seattle Fish Company sell fish and crustaceans by the pound, but they also serve a seafood dinner that tops anything from Salty’s. Slip into a booth and enjoy a charred fish taco with coleslaw while sitting among Dungeness crabs chilling on ice. Or, pull up a window stool with an order of herb-loaded clam chowder and people-watch along California Ave." - aimee rizzo, kayla sager riley, gabe guarente

Kraken is the New NHL Seattle Team Name: To Celebrate, Here’s the Best Squid and Octopus for Takeout - Eater Seattle

Google
We definitely love this place. The fish and chips are delicious and crunchy and not oily. I really recommend mixing it up. We got COD halibut and popcorn shrimp though I do think they could’ve put a little extra popcorn shrimp otherwise it was delicious. The clam chowder has been one of the best I’ve had and the Poboy sandwich was absolutely delicious and not too big so it was a perfect size.

Nga Le

Google
The dining area is separate so you could enjoy foods right here. You could also purchase some raw seafood home. The chowder is saltier than my preference but it tastes good. All seafoods tastes fresh. Highly recommend!

Zach Brown

Google
Halibut fish and chips were excellent. As was the service! The owner and family stopped over to ensure we were taken care of. Can’t recommend more highly

Google
Food overload. So many good choices. Really liked the salmon chowder. Thought the clam chowder was over peppery. Cod was great. Shrimp taco while a bit of spice was fantastic. Wasn't as happy about the fish taco, but it was the size of 3 tacos. Couldn't move when we left.

Ja Steckler

Google
Excellent food! The Shrimp Cocktail course I wish had better presentation, but the shrimp were big and delicious as was the coctail sauce, so I'm being nit-picky to wish it was served in a Cocktail glass. We had a blast and will definitely be back.

Google
Fantastic selection and service. We were looking for items for a NYE seafood boil and Seattle Fish Company had great options. Plus the knowledgeable staff helped us figure out the right portions, provided cooking suggestions, and packed our purchase on ice. I can’t wait to go back and try out the grill.

Google
We were greeted by the staff as soon as we walked in. Service was amazing. We ordered some oyster shooters. They were delicious, we ordered smoked chowder and regular chowder bother were delicious. Salmon fish and chips was outstanding, the breading was perfect crunch and so much fish. Oyster po boy wasn't mine but she says that and the poke bowl.was Devine. I honestly don't know why this place isn't packed all the time. We are from out of town but we will be here everytime we come back to this side.

Natalia Cortez

Google
We came in for lunch and got a 2 piece cod and salmon fish and chips and for about 16/basket you get 2 decently sized pieces of fish. It had panko breading and was not overly heavy and was overall tasty. I also ordered a cup of smoked salmon chowder and it was just okay - a bit too fishy tasting and I personally wasn't fond of the tomato base for the soup. The reason I had to knock stars down was because I saw a huge fly on a piece of salmon fillet in the case.

Yelp
Just outside of where the Farmers Market sits we happened across what might be a West Seattle institution. Part fish market and casual restaurant, this was a perfect snack during a cold afternoon. We had the salmon chowder and cioppino. The gamble was that being a fish market that these two chowders would be packed with goodness. They did not disappoint. We will be back, potentially religiously, for this treat. Yum

Yelp
This is a review of Seattle Fish Company's prepared foods. The business offers a wide variety of fresh catch, as well. This review is not on that. My parents and I order take-out from Seattle Fish Company on a regular basis. We usually call the order in, and no matter the size, they always have it ready to go when we come in to pick it up. I usually get the 2-piece Fish n' Chips, which is made with Cod. I've tried the Halibut and Salmon Fish n' Chips but prefer the standard Cod. My dad, however, prefers the Halibut. Both my parents love the clam chowder and always order it. (I'd get it too, but due to some seafood allergies, I'm not able to eat it.) My mom also always gets their onion rings, which she enjoys. We *always* order their slaw. I'm not a slaw fan, but theirs is fantastic. Freshly made, not too saucy. Some of the best slaw I've had. Don't forget to ask for vinegar, mayo, and/or tartar when you pick up your order! Even if you ask them when you order, you need to remind them when you pick up the order. Enjoy!

Yelp
Food: So scrumptious and delicious. I may have gone a little ham on ordering lol. The crab cakes were divine and I appreciate that it was not heavily breaded and I could taste the crab. The poutine was my favorite, I even risk my lactose intolerance for this. Crispy fries, some sort of clam chowder sauce, the cheese curds omg. So delicious! Service: order at the county and they bring the food to you. Ambiance: clean, open and cozy.

Yelp
Excellent place to try local seafood. Market gives off the perfect vibe for a fresh bite to eat. Clam chowder was our favorite and we were seated right away.

Yelp
Seattle Fish Co. never disappoints when it comes to fresh, top-quality seafood. During my recent visit, I enjoyed some incredible clams and mussels, as well as two dozen big, flavorful Pacific oysters. The oysters were fresh and perfect for shucking, and I got a quick tutorial from Ian--always a friendly face and a wealth of knowledge--on how to properly shuck without risking a finger! I also tried their house-made halibut cake and crab cakes. Both were delicious, the halibut cake was my personal favorite--like enjoying a seafood burger on a soft brioche bun. The flavor and texture were spot-on. They have a wonderful seating area for in dining and just a warm welcome place to stop in for one of their local beers. Whenever I'm in West Seattle visiting family, Seattle Fish Co. is my go-to spot for the freshest seafood. They always come through, and I highly recommend them if you're looking to elevate your home-cooked seafood dishes

Suk L.

Yelp
Fish and chips (cod) were excellent. Probably one of the best I've had in years. The rice in the poke bowl was not cooked well and the poke was a bit salty for me but still very fresh and tasty.
google avatar

Yelp
Went there last Sunday with my boys, my oldest said it was the best fish and chips he's had in Seattle. He wasn't wrong! Peter had cod & chips, Dan and I both did Captain's Platter: choice of three from a huge list of fish and seafood. Dan chose Halibut, Cod and Popcorn Shrimp; I had Oysters, Oysters and Cod. Loved the fries!! They were coated with a great seasoning mixture, deep fried just how I like them, crispy outside and tender on the inside. The market had an amazing selection of fresh fish and seafood, and no fishy smell at the counter or in the dining area. Can't wait to go back!!
google avatar

Yelp
Local, casual, no frills, counter service restaurant that serves great fish and chips and fish sandwiches. There's also a small seafood market inside where you can pick up crab cakes and various seafood. Some of my favorites are the fried cod, fried scallops, and grilled salmon sandwich. There are a few items that could be improved: fried halibut is dry, the clam chowder doesn't taste like a typical traditional one and tastes like it has a lot of sour cream and/or mayo in it, the steamed clams are fresh but the sauce is not light and tastes like it has sour cream and/or mayo in it. They have a good happy hour 2-5 pm daily with great food and drink deals.
google avatar

Steve V.

Yelp
We came here for an early dinner and there were a few parties in there. They have a great Happy Hour and we happened to be there early enough to partake. I took advantage by getting the salmon fish and chips, which I would have gotten anyway as it is rare to see salmon as the fish in fish and chips. We ordered and got a number to put at our table. While waiting for our food, I checked out their display case and saw all the fresh seafood they had for sale in a market type setting. Our food came in a bout 10 minutes and was made to order. The portion size was perfect as it wasn't too much, and didn't feel heavy like some fish and chips can be. The breading was the perfect amount, but the fries were a bit limp.

Yelp
My friend and I were headed back from Alki Beach and decided to stop and have lunch and I'm glad we did. My friend had the shrimp and chips and I had the cod fish and chips. Amazing! Fresh cod and shrimp in a light batter. The cod was cooked to perfection. They have a large beverage, select your own, selection. You can also browse and purchase from their fresh fish case. They have wine and local items for purchase as well. Outdoor seating when it's warm. Indoor seating with screened windows that open up. You can sit at the bar by the open window and people watch or take in the fresh air. Amazing service, everyone is so kind. Located on California street with on street parking. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Went back on a cold day for some chowder, never disappoints!! Soup options as of Jan 2024: clam chowder, smoked salmon chowder, & crab bisque. Hot tip: $3 up-charge to add grilled bread (can still get oyster crackers too. $6 a cup, $9 a bowl (better value). Crab bisque had stellar flavor and clam chowder was chunky deliciousness, but to take leftovers we combined them into one and i really think we're onto something. Feels divey and local because it is, and I love it

Delaney J.

Yelp
The food was delicious, the service was great. Went back almost daily on our trip! I would recommend anyone in the area to give this place a try!!
google avatar

Haleh N.

Yelp
Always fresh food made to order and seafood to take home! Friendliest staff ever with great service. Cute and quaint spot in the heart of West Seattle.
google avatar

Monique A.

Yelp
You get exactly what you expect. Great fried seafood plates, and also a good fish deli. Only doing 4 stars because sometimes the servings are small, and the environment of this place is a little chaotic for my liking.
google avatar

Regina M.

Yelp
We came in tonight as a group of five and were able to snag a spacious booth. After a beach day, Seattle Fish Company was exactly what we needed! Everything on the menu was tempting, and I settled on small portions of a handful of items to get the real scoop. The staff was friendly and the food came out as soon as I sat down after grabbing a cup of water! The food was so fresh that you could still taste notes of sea salt. The prices are so reasonable but for the quality that you'll find yourself doublechecking the zip code you're in! We will definitely be back and explore the other items I had my eyes on. My table mates were raving about the crab mac n cheese, fish and chips, and onion rings. PS They have homemade bleu cheese!!!

Kingbol T.

Yelp
Service is decently friendly. Atmosphere is on the dimmer side. The fish and oysters are definitely fresh, but their shucking skills seem to be lacking. About half of the dozen oysters I ordered had pieces of the shell in them which ruins the experience. Indicaors for what is dine in what isn't are not clear. The layout is not newcomer friendly as instructions aren't clear/easily seen. I've noticed a few groups of customers come in and were just looking around, not sure if there will be a server that'll come seat them or walk forward towards the fish display case.

Angus M.

Yelp
I ordered beer battered cod. Overcooked. Dry. Chewy. Told waitperson and manager(?) and their response was, well he's a new cook 1st day. He said, "Write a review on Yelp" How's that for customer service? Waitperson takes a 15% (prepaid) tip, I guess it's just to ring up your, because you never see him again. SERVICE SUCKS DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY AT THIS RESTAURANT Sunfish, Dukes WAY BETTER

J S.

Yelp
Arrived there about 7:45, not realizing that they close at 8:00. Ordered two meals and two drinks for two people. Waited approximately 12 minutes for the food, no big deal. I noticed they were shutting down the place right after we received our food, and a man arrived, who was presumably the owner. While we were eating our food he flickered the lights on and off, and turned the music up loud and then back down over and over. We had just gotten our food, and weren't about to leave after just paying for our meal. At 8:11, the owner, slurring his words and visibly intoxicated, approached our table and said they were "heading out." If you want to be out the door by 8:15, MAYBE you should stop accepting dine-in customers earlier than 7:45. If you're going to serve us food and take our money, I would expect a reasonable amount of time to eat our food. We would've been fine to go somewhere else if they had just told us they were closing, but they took our money and then kicked us out. Also being hammered in your place of business isn't a good look. Do better.

Gregory V.

Yelp
Got really fresh Halibut! This is our local West Seattle go to for seafood. Always great.
google avatar

Joshua K.

Yelp
The staff here is incredibly friendly and nice. It gives west seattle something a little different, which is nice.
google avatar

Sophia Y.

Yelp
The service here is some of the nicest in seattle! As you order when you first walk in, you're greeted warmly and they walk you through any questions you may have. Because of the awesome service, I always try to make it a point to stop in when I'm in the area and the tacos never fail me. I didn't really love the mussels but the tacos are filling and delicious and they have yet to let me down. Pop in if you're in the mood for nice folks and some seafood for lunch or dinner!

Edward D.

Yelp
I felt like I was back in Maine. Incredible seafood in a down to earth restaurant. The staff were vertical helpful and friendly.
google avatar

Yelp
We were greeted with a big smile and welcome and felt right at home. We ordered fish tacos, captain's platter, and fish and chips. Everything was so good and fresh and the coatings crispy. Our first visit here, but it won't be our last. This is my new go-to choice for seafood, whether fresh to go or dine in and let SFC do the cooking. Oh and I bought a "sampler" of cakes: crabcakes, halibut cakes, and salmon cakes. Um, um, good!
google avatar

Danisha M.

Yelp
They had good reviews so I stopped by since I was looking for something quuick, but I'm not really a fast food person. I got the Captains Platter w/ salmon, clam strips, and calamari. Fries comes with it as well. The salmon was very much not flavorful at all. It just tasted like they dipped it in batter and fried it. I usually make my own fried salmon, and I wish I did, or at least got more of something else, or something totally different all together. I did not like it at all and I'd probably give it 1/10. The calmari was good, I wish I had more of it. I'd give it a 8.5/10. The clam strips were really good! I loved them, and also wish I would've gotten more. I'd give that 8.7/10 The fries were pretty salty to me, so I couldn't really eat them. I wish they would've used some of that salt on the salmon. Ketchup made them better, but I generally like fries without ketchup. This was 3/10 for me. The platter also came with cocktail sauce, tarter sauce, and ketchup. I really liked the cocktail sauce it had bit of heat to it, but I loved the kick, that was a 8.9/10 The tarter was just regular, not very flavorful, so I'd give that 5. & ketchup is ketchup... no need rate that.
google avatar

Hucky K.

Yelp
Pros: love this place, they know how to handle seafood, fast service, friendly staff, adequate seating Cons: not much, street parking is usually easy but can be unpredictable
google avatar

Stephanie M.

Yelp
Food and service was excellent! I love the variety of choices and everything is fresh!
google avatar

Janah W.

Yelp
Cod fish and chips! So good nice pieces and coated perfectly nice and moist. Made fresh hot fries, tartar, lemon and malt vinegar. I'm a huge Spud fan this is up there with them, but I can say the cod at Seattle Fish Company was
google avatar

Alex H.

Yelp
Was talking to the owner Jon and his customer service was amazing. They apparently hand bread the fish and it's always so fresh and perfect. The location is perfect and the atmosphere of the restaurant feels like a fish market. Will be back.
google avatar

Chris T.

Yelp
Great food, very fresh, wonderful simple ambience and I will most definitely be back for not just a halibut sandwich but to purchase some fresh fish!
google avatar

Rick K.

Yelp
I have visited the Seattle Fish Company several times, and have often picked up a shrimp po'boy to take home. Or I will also pick up some great quality seafood to cook at home, which includes sole, swordfish, crab cakes, salmon etc. The service by the team, especially by the owner is incredible. He is consistently welcoming and he provides the perfect climate to visit. For lunch I wanted to have a nice meal. I wasn't sure what to order, but the seared halibut sandwich on the menu caught my eye. Wow. A huge filet as the picture notes. The sandwich was loaded with tartar sauce, tomatoes, and coleslaw and crispy, hot fries were served with the halibut sandwich. It was the perfect 5 star sandwich. I also had a cup of clam chowder, which was full of scrumptious clams. The temperature and flavor of the chowder could not have better. And of course, accompanied by a refreshing glass of chardonnay which was the perfect refreshing treat. For all of these highpoints. I will find myself continuing to select the Seattle Fish Company frequently.
google avatar

Naomi A.

Yelp
Holy eat my shirts!! Go to this place. I mean, don't, because I don't want it to get that crowded. But, oh my goodness! We had the fish & chips- so fresh; the clam chowder- so much depth of flavor; the fish tacos- get them, so much fish, so much flavor; and the smoked salmon chowder- meh. Overall, though, go to this place. Don't even bother with any other seafood joint.
google avatar

Ashley F.

Yelp
Very disappointing! Fish was pretty fresh, but just wasn't as juicy, tasty, and crispy as other place sun Seattle. Nothing special, I would go somewhere else if you're craving fish and chips. The food also took a while to arrive. There's also a seafood market inside opposite of the order counter.
google avatar

Brandon C.

Yelp
I'm always looking for the best fish and chips and had never been to this spot so I ordered the Captain's platter - cod, halibut and popcorn shrimp with chips and a bowl of smoked Salmon chowder. Went in with the mindset of sampling as much as possible, and left feeling cheated. Halibut was dry. cod was a good size portion but lacked flavor. Shrimp was decent. Chips were meh... I prefer steak fries or crinkle but that's just me. Chowder was the best part of the whole meal. Lotsa goodness in that bowl. I just expected more for $30.
google avatar

Steve B.

Yelp
I just tore through 8 oyster shooters and a Kilt Lifter. I'm into this spot! Happy hour here is great. Service is awesome and the staff are friendly x hard working. I'm glad I don't work here! Sitting on my ass watching is much better.
google avatar

Dianna T.

Yelp
Seattle Fish Company rocks! We've been here a few times and have always enjoyed our experience. They have a fish market where you can buy fresh seafood, but there is also a restaurant. The restaurant is open for indoor dining at 50% capacity right now. They have plenty of indoor tables and a few outside on the sidewalk. You order your food at the front counter and then take a number to your table. The person helping us was very nice and helpful. I had looked at the menu online beforehand, and was planning to order 2 fish tacos for $9, but I was delighted to see a special on their chalkboard for 3 fish tacos for $12! I also ordered a side mixed green salad. The tacos were delicious. The portions are pretty big (so I had leftovers) and I'm glad that the fish is grilled instead of fried. The salad was also pretty good! It came with sliced cucumbers, tomatoes, croutons, and a balsamic vinaigrette dressing on the side. There are tons of options here like fish and chips, clams, crab, fish sandwiches, fish cakes, and soup/chowder. You should definitely check this place out!
google avatar

D K.

Yelp
Ambience is casual cute yet romantic. Service is friendly and upbeat. Food is amazing and fresh and sooo good. Got the garlic white wine clams and the mussel/clam combo. So fresh and so good. The clam chowder has tons of clam. It so good with the onions rings! Sorry no pictures. Ate it all too fast.

Alex F.

Yelp
Sorry this is just gross. No thank you. Don't know what else to say. 85 characters seems unnecessary here
google avatar

Kevin S.

Yelp
SFC has amazing fish, to take away or to eat on site. Great staff, amazingly fresh seafood.....and a special note to the steamed mussels that are wonderful......
google avatar

Richard M.

Yelp
So wonderful! Got the three piece halibut and chips and the halibut was delicious. Also got the crab cakes that were wonderful as well. Service and atmosphere was excellent although they could use some air conditioning
google avatar

Jeff C.

Yelp
Fantastic shrimp tacos. Fish tacos were also ordered and were well received. Poke was spot on. Service was great. Food was pretty slow for an empty restaurant and wouldn't have been noticed if we weren't hungry when we came in, but we had a good conversation rolling so it was ok. Use of space was good. Menu was on the wall and was a bit confusing for a first timer. Overall the experience was worth the 5 rating.
google avatar

Cassidy W.

Yelp
Good vibes and people seemed nice. The food was solidly good, but I wish it had more seasoning! We asked for Old Bay or something and they gave us a cup of salt (which helped, but... still)
google avatar

Eric G.

Yelp
So good. We had the cod and fries, crab bisque, and coconut shrimp. The cod was the star of the show and everything was great. Best fried fish I've ever had. The service was great, too. Our first time there and his recommendation was perfect.

Veronica C.

Yelp
Food is sooooooo good, go in happy hours and try everything Service is great too 2 till 5pm everyday I think
google avatar

David S.

Yelp
I've been craving shellfish and came in to order a side of fried oysters and clams. John (?) takes my order and quickly charges my card and tells me it was $20.92. Despite clearly stating I did not want fries and only wanted clams and oysters, he charged me for a fisherman's platter. I tried to clarify my order when he abruptly leaves to to say he has to tell the chef how to cook my order... It wasn't worth the effort after a long day of work and just waited for my order. The "platter" ended up being 4 oysters, fries, and a tiny handful of burnt clam strips which were mainly just batter. While the oysters were great, I felt taken advantage of knowing that I specifically said I did not want fries. I went back to politely let him know, and is only response was to "come back next time." The guy gives off used car salesman vibes, and his response was super off-putting. Way better off supporting the brothers at Sunfish.

M O.

Yelp
Excellent tacos containing tons of fresh flavours. Fish and chips are some of the best. They all go well with a decent selection of beer. Eat, drink and leave full!
google avatar

Lea M.

Yelp
I really can't say enough good things about this place! We were set on having fish and chips that day for the ultimate test of who does it best in Seattle. I consider myself a seafood aficionado, having grown up on the Adriatic coast eating some of the best seafood in the world, and I can honestly say these guys know what they're doing. Although I've never been wild about fried seafood, especially in the states, they have perfected the batter and consistency to leave you with more fish than "fry" in your mouth. We absolutely love the staff here as well. Several times during our meal, we struck up conversation and had some laughs. It made us feel relaxed, especially because overly fake-nice servers tend to put us off! They even did a special order for us of 3 more fish pieces without extras because we couldn't get enough! A surprise bonus was that we were able to purchase a bottle of their wine for only $14 to enjoy with our food! Typically, restaurants will price gouge you for gas station wine, but not here! We even took the empty bottle home with us as a souvenir filled with some sand off Alki Beach inside. You can't even get that kind of romance at a fancy white napkin joint! Don't be fooled by the super casual atmosphere. The food here is top-notch, and at the risk of sounding like a groupie, I can't wait to come back and dive into some non-fried options. Thanks for everything SFC crew; see you soon, and next time, I'm buying a hoodie! :)

Karen F.

Yelp
Great food, friendly atmosphere, the staff knows what they are doing here. Do not miss this excellent fish!
google avatar

Sharon F.

Yelp
This is a gem fish store and eatery. When you've got a craving for fish & chips, make a trip over to West Seattle to support this small business! The fish is incredibly fresh, served hot, and by a friendly staff. The two piece cod or halibut is enough to share. The fries are crisp and the perfect golden color. Yum!
google avatar

Kelly T.

Yelp
So sad to write this review we have been coming to the Seattle fish company for many years. Today the owner complained about me to his staff that I actually 'f@$ked them' because I didn't buy the larger piece of Salmon. What business owner says that!!! His staff cut the salmon when I asked for under a pound. It is clear he had no time for me and other guests he was incredibly rude to. Unfortunately I will never go back and will encourage all the other West Seattle family and friends to support another community shop/restaurant. But based on Jon's attitude today he doesn't care about me or other customers.
