We've been going to Serrelli's for years. I remember them In My old neighborhood before moving to North Ave. They have the best beef. We get the 10lb container everytime. A little expensive but all worth it comparing to other places. I come from Waukegan just for their beef.

Had the 6 inch Italian sub, a good solid contender for the area. Picked up some olives as well, very good. Next time I'll try a beef. There is parking behind the building, also it's Chicago so bring a bag or get charged 7 cents each if you need one.

The beefs aren’t great at all. The 2 stars is for the sausage. I got the combo deeper and an expired bag of chips. The beef is DRY & the bread is soggy. Your best bet is going up the street to Jonny.

We have been getting beef from here for holidays and other events. I picked up 10 lbs for Christmas and this is the first time we were very disappointed in the quality. A lot of fat and a lot of tough pieces. We prepared as instructed same way we have been doing for 30 years. I will not be getting this anymore

My sister lives in the area and has been bringing me the largest bucket of Italian beef to me when she comes to Kentucky.We really like it.We freeze what we don't eat. Been getting it for 25 years. Keep up the good work. Compliments to the chef.💕💯

Serrelli’s is awesome. It is the quintessential neighborhood Italian deli. Their Italian beef, or anything else in their store is good! The actual deli….best old school sub you can get! I like the staff too. No matter who is at the checkout you get this friendly, really comfortable vibe. But don’t touch the cow! Lol…..

Stopped in here today to pick up some items for Christmas dinner this weekend. Been going here for years and the food and service is always great. I also had the privilege to pay it forward by purchasing a woman's groceries for her who was behind me in line. She gave me a Christmas hug and thanked me. Being kind and generous doesn't cost a thing and the smile and hug we shared was priceless. Happy Holidays Everyone !

This place has grande cheese whole milk low moisture mozzarella. Can't find any other place that has that.

Absuletly the best beef. We've been going there since they're were at north ave and keeler.. it's been a long time. They make it in house. It's a deli that you could get a sandwich or two. If you get beef, get the bread and hot peppers there. Small business so it helps more in the area.

The best Italian store in Chicago. Every time I visit Chicago I have to go to Serrelli's for their ItalianBeef and Italian Sausage. .

This is a rather new looking store and it seemed extremely clean; the employees present were helpful and polite. There's a decent assortment of Italian packaged goods, and an extremely modest deli counter...but I went in for lunch. I was hoping I'd found someplace phenomenal like the Tony's in EP, but I ended up sad and disappointed , actually throwing away the worst chicken parm sandwich I'be ever had. The chicken was as thin as a single slice of bologna; there was one slice of cheese and it was beyond dry with no more than a tablespoon of sauce. I ordered it because a caprese sub without fresh basil (he said they used "dried seasoning mix") sounded ridiculous. They do get their bread from Damatos, so someone there knows the business...but after trying the sandwich counter, I understand why I was the only customer during most places' lunchtime rush.

This store is noted for beef and sausage that is delicious but I ordered a hot dog that was served on a green moldy bun. Yuk! I not

The Italian beef was decent, but definitely not a remarkable standout in comparison to Johnnies and the like around Chicago. Admittedly the bread Serrelli's uses is quite distinct though. Truly the Italian sub is what shines at Serrelli's, probably one of the best in the city, and I definitely know what I would get again when returning to the store.

Our family fell in love with Serrelli's at their first location on North Avenue, just west of Pulaski, back in 1966. I wish digital cameras were around then because it had an absolutely engaging and lovable sign swinging outside the store that touted 'home of 'Roost Beef.' The affair is ongoing. My daughter and her husband make a long drive from the North 'burbs to get what us part of our family's holiday tradition - Italian beef, the bread and all the add-ons. A year ago I moved to Texas and I miss Serrelli's (and Johnny's, Jimmy's Hot Dogs, Gene & Judes and more. Texas is a wasteland when it comes to ethnic foods sources in the Houston area; There are more fast food chains littering the wide open spaces than anyplace I've ever been. Less anyone think all Serrelli's sells is beef - It is a treat to one's olfactory senses to enter the store. There's a honest-to-gosh butcher counter, pastas, olive oils and spices and a freezer of Italian specialties. When the storefront was modernized I feared it would change the experience. It didn't!

I called around to a half dozen authentic Italian joints, hoping to find one that could deliver a lot of food on the north side, and on short notice. A dear friend just had a very unexpected loss in the family, and I needed to deliver some comfort food to the grieving widow (with a very high standard for food) and the daughters who just lost their dad very suddenly. Serrelli's was a dream to work with. They were so kind and accommodating, able to pull together and deliver a large order (food for 40) in just a couple hours. The first gentleman who answered the phone had a rough accent and quickly switched me to a younger girl who was able to help. To me that actually cemented that they probably have very good and authentic food. They delivered just what I asked for at a very reasonable price, and have a small bit of comfort to this Italian family. I was told the sausage was "absolutely delicious". I ordered a deli tray and hot Italian sausage. A very pleasant experience all around. These folks will treat you like family. I'll have to stop in on my next trip up, purely because of this lovely experience, to try their food myself! Thank you again!

I never ate here before. I ordered twice on UberEats and this is one of the best beefs I ever tasted and the fries are always fresh and hot when I receive my order. So yummy. The portions are really filling.

Serrelli's Finer Foods on the north side of North Avenue near Narragansett has been around since 1934. The cow in front greets those who venture into this Italian deli. The aisles are stocked with goods such as pasta sauce, garlic, cookies, etc. When you reach the back of the store, you will find the deli counter along with a counter to order sandwiches. On a random Saturday afternoon I went with the Italian beef sandwich with sweet peppers. The sandwich was generously filled with sliced Italian beef and pieces of green pepper. Although many like this sandwich dipped, I like it dry as the beef generally offers enough beef juices for me without turning the bread into a spongy mess. Indeed the Italian bread stayed intact, crusty and chewy as it cradles its yummy precious fillings.

I have mentioned this in previous reviews, but one of the things I really love about Yelp is the ability to find new things and try new places that I never would have known about. I have been on a quest to find a truly great deli sandwich and have a special place in my heart for the Italian grocery stores/ delis. I was doing some research on Yelp and stumbled upon this neighborhood gem. All I can say is this place is amazing. I was blown away with everything here. I will absolutely keep coming back because there are many other things I want to try. This is located on North Avenue in Chicago, just east of Oak Park Avenue. There is street parking available and there is parking on the side streets nearby. When you come inside, you will be greeted by one of the many friendly employees that work here. What really impressed me was how friendly and outgoing the employees were. From the ladies at the register to the employee who made my sandwich, absolutely top notch service. Now the food...wow, simply wow. I went with the 9" Italian Sub and I can honestly say it was one of the best sandwiches I have ever eaten. I am a self admitted sandwich snob and can usually find something that irritates me on a sandwich, but not here. The ingredients were fresh, bread was delicious and it was perfect. I will be back to try the beef, maybe meatball sandwich, some side salads, who am I kidding I will be back frequently. It really takes a lot to truly impress me, but Serrelli's did on every level. I would really suggest checking coming here for some great customer service and an awesome sandwich.

I was never an Italian beef sandwich person until my wife hade me try the beefs from Serrelli's. They are awesome and I drive 50 miles each way to get beefs for the family. Perfect for every occasion !

I came to Serrelli's specifically to taste the classic Italian Beef recipe that's been handed down and prepared for generations. Self proclaimed as Chicago's "Original Italian Beef"; I'm thinking back in 1934, this was obviously an innovative idea, let alone legendary for the Chicago area! Definitely one of the better "Italian Style Roast Beef" Sandwiches I've had in awhile. I knew something was up when I quickly devoured half a sandwich before I came up for air! My container of Hot Mix Giardinare sat alone in the to-go-bag... quietly forgotten. The roast beef is perfectly sliced before taking a swim in the natural gravy pool. Seasonings like garlic, black pepper, oregano & paprika offer a subtle & tasty contribution. Perfectly seasoned tender beef plops nicely into some crusty D'Amato's bread.

Extremely rude! Sarah supposedly a manager there hung up on me after trying to talk to her about delivery through Ubereats. So disappointing to be treated that way. She claimed it was "broken" and/or a password issue. Sounds as easy as resetting password or having customer service help them reset. Frankly, it sounded like they were lazy and didn't want to fix it and they are missing out on that business from the city during changing Covid times. Any rate what a horrible experience!

Let me start by saying that I can not even imagine how stressful and difficult it must be for all restaurants and food related business to continue to survive in this new world caused by COVID-19. Some of these businesses have been open for more years than most of us have been alive. These businesses have struggled through down economies, depressions, wars but never have they had restrictions on them like the ones with COVID-19. Me and my family will continue to support local small business and I encourage everyone to do the same. The families who own and people who work at these businesses need help and they need it fast. Please stop by a local restaurant, deli or store and support them. I recently stopped at Serrelli's Finer Foods on North avenue to check this place out considering I have driven by it for years. I was seeking some premade eggplant parmigiana to take home to complete my dinner for my family. Wow did I hit the jack pot, I was able to get what was the best eggplant parmigiana I have ever had, and I have had a lot. Their red sauce or (gravy) as I like to call it was also one of the top 5, I have ever had. Everything they have in this gem of a deli and grocery store is authentic, priced right, and I am sure delicious. I did not have the chance to try one of the to go deli sandwiches, but I am sure they are great. Also, the family that works, runs, and has poured their life into this place are the best people you will ever meet. I just love to meet owners who love what they do and are not afraid to show their pride. Hats off to everyone at Serrelli's Finer Foods, keep up the great work, keep the faith it will get better! This review is simple: This is the best beef in the city. Johnnie's Mr. Beef Portillo's Freddie's Pete's. Serrelli's is the best. Period. End of Story.

My family has been coming to Serrelli's for Italian beef for as long as I remember because it is the best. There are a lot of grocery store options for Italian beef at home that are not bad, but none of them come close. When it comes down to it, it's a small grocery store that has many Italian products which mostly revolve around the beef, and they've been in business for almost 90 years so they're doing something right. The 5lb tub is around $30 and worth every penny, and you can get bread gardinera and everything else to make an unbelievably awesome beef sandwich. They also have a large deli counter in the back of the store to satisfy your lunch meat needs. It's old school style on the Beverly best way.

Somewhat disappointed. Ordered beefs and sausage for a party. Beef was great but pricier than before. Sausage cooked in marinara was also good but pieces were so small that you needed 2 to fit on a bun and very costly as well. Think I will go elsewhere for the prices they charged!

I love this place. The smell is amazing when you walk in the door. I have been going to Serrelli's since they were on North Avenue near California. I still love them and buy their beef but I took away one star because I think their prices are getting a little high for what you get.

I'm on a lifelong hunt for the best beef in Chicago. Stopped in today and this was honestly my favorite Italian beef I've ever had. Excellent price for a huge beef sandwich, hot peppers were perfect, the bread held up even after being dunked. This was incredible. Five stars.

Finally stopped by this place to see what they had - last time I was here was years ago before they remodeled, so I was looking forward to checking it out and trying an Italian Beef that seem to be popular with a lot of Yelpers. The people there were great and eager to help. One thing that was disappointing though was that I felt there weren't enough "homemade" offerings. Many of these small Italian groceries / delis have a plethora of food made at the store for sale; Serrelli's had relatively few items like this. It's those kinds of things that make me want to go back to places like Freddy's, Rex, Capri, Tony's and Bari; I would hope this place would follow in their footsteps at some point. Now, I did order a combo and that is one of the things that they brag about. Nicely valued and a decent sized sandwich. I personally prefer a little more seasoning (oregano) on my beefs, but this still had great flavor. Peppers included in the $6.98 price which was nice - the sweet peppers were really good. Add an order of French fries at $1.29 that was also a good sized portion - I was concerned about getting a single portion in the middle of the afternoon when no one else was around, but they came out great. They do have a limited meat offering and the rib eyes looked great - almost bought a couple even though I wasn't looking for such an item. Overall, I'll be back at some point to try and check out some of their other items - or maybe another beef or sausage!

cute small shop & the workers are very nice. I got stuff to make pizza but they didn't have any toppings.. pretty good selection of pasta and sodas though. Based off the reviews I had to try the Italian beef.. and it was so damn dry. If I didn't get it dipped I would have choked. Disappointment, I'm better off going to Portillos or that famous beef place that always has a line.. but even now I'm trying to eat to meat that fell off my beef and it's just crazy dry...

Best spot ever, family has been coming to Serrelli's for over 20 years. Italian beef is by far the best than other locations. They definitely keeping up with times, their renovations still make it homey feel with modernization.

I have been buying wholesale from these people for over 10 years. They open up at 9 AM. I placed a Wholesale order but to make it easier on them I agreed to pick up the order this one time. I arrive 10 minutes before they opened. Three employees running around in the back. I knocked on the door, one employee pointed at the clock which read 8:51 and started laughing and walked away. I knocked on the door some more and a driver who recognized me came to the door and explained to me they opened at 9 o'clock but I could come in. I am sick and tired of these entitled businesses not treating customers with respect. Today I will cut ties with Serrelis.

Just went in for a sub while my car was being repaired down the street. Unfortunately, I didn't get what I ordered, and of course didn't find out until it was too late. I ordered a corned beef sub, and was asked "Do you want everything on it?" (a not unusual question in a sandwich store). I said no, and listed what I did want - provolone, mayo, mustard, lettuce, onions, mild giardiniera . The woman wrote down my order and handed it to the sandwich maker. What did I get: No provolone, No giardiniera, but it did have pickles (?) and tomatoes. Really? You had a list of what I ordered - it shouldn't be that hard. The ingredients I did get were good, so not a total fail. Just beware and check your order before you leave, especially if you're not just ordering one of their standards.

Best Italian Beef in town! Staff is extremely nice and welcoming. Service is alway great. I would highly recommend anyone to stop in and enjoy the food Serrelli's has to offer!

Eggplant parmesan was so good and super cheap! I love the food items sold here, I'll definitely come back to try the Italian cookies on the shelf.

I read the reviews and came in for the prime rib. I even bought a slow cooker just to make sure I cooked it right. The meat was very tender and good. I would buy this for another gathering since everyone enjoyed it.

Serrellis is the best. Customer service is always at 100%. Helpful and caring, management and staff. The beef and sausage is the best. It's always a pleasure to shop there. You couldn't ask for better product or better service. I wish there were 10 stars, 5 isn't enough. I give Serrilis the highest recommendation ever. They also have a great menu for sandwiches. This is the only place my husband likes to go with me to shop. Great , great place Thank you!!!

Excellent selection of Italian foods. I drive from the northwest suburbs to get the beef. Really like just walking around the store. I have had their Italian sausage and it is excellent.

Theeeeee best Italian beef in Chicagoland!! I've never ordered any of their made to order food, but I'm sure it's amazing! I get the big tub (or 2) of Italian beef for parties, and it's always a hit! The beef is so tender and sliced perfectly. The gravy is always delicious! My dad has ordered some fresh roasts (uncooked), and they also were good quality meats! A couple times I was there, they had this cinnamon bread at the register (purchase by the loaf) that was tasty too! The staff is also very nice! Highly recommended!!!!!

Got the Italian beef sandwich and meatball sandwich. Both were great, very tasty. The meatball was the better of the two sandwiches for me, could not believe portion sizes were as big as they were, and then the sides of any pasta salad or potato salad you wanted! If I lived closer I would be a regular!

Lived in this area for 25+ years and after being away for 5 years I returned on my trip home back home. I'm now in Michigan enjoying amazing Italian Beef, fresh bread, homemade hot giardinare, sweet peppers and of course amazing homemade italian sausage. This place is amazing!!

I went to Serrelli's for the first time today and I was more than impressed! I was greeted by Patti, the owner and she immediately made me feel like a valued customer. I went there to get a cheeseburger and some fries but thanks to a few sample's of their homemade Sicilian Mild Sausage, I left with up a package. (That sausage is divine!) I was also given a free salad of my choice for the holiday weekend. I chose the rotini pasta salad. After my first bite of the cheeseburger I said to myself, "Now that's a good burger!" The pasta salad was excellent too! Without a doubt Serrelli's is an excellent store/deli with more than excellent customer service! Thank you Patti!

FAMILY PARTY SECRETS Hey you! Yeah I'm talking to you! You wanna know a secret! This place has the most amazing sliced Italian beef ever. Now the secret is out. My parents always hosted parties for there friends, family and employees. It was fun but it was a lot of work. When I was little I would get dragged all over the city to pick up supplies with my parents. I call this Sicilian style shopping, which meant you would drive all across town just to get the best items or ingredients. My parents were never one stop shoppers. As I got older, those lists were handed to me. Sometimes it would take me the whole day just to get everything. My parents made most of there food items but when it came to sliced Italian beef this was the place they went to. The largest container available was the 10 lbs of Italian Beef with juice. My parents never wanted to run out of food, so they always went for more then they needed. They would typically buy 20 to 30 lbs of beef for a family house party and 80 to 100 lbs for a company party. Now I must make a confession, I would sneak a few slices of cold beef while in the car. Hey, I was 16 years old and sitting next to 100 lbs of the most amazing Italian beef. Who was gonna miss two slices? I must admit it was hard to stop at two. It is one of the most tastiest beefs you will find. They have a great recipe with an amazing mix of spices and seasoning. So next time you want to throw a party and you wanna go Chicago style beef then this is the place. Your guests will think you are trying to be the next great beef place in the city. I am getting hungry just writing this review. I need to get in the car, pick up a container of beef, sample a slice for quality control & then throw a party. What holiday is coming up that we can celebrate? Is there a national beef sandwich day?

Ever since Serrelli's remodeled, the customer service has just not been the same. It is my opinion that deli meats and cheeses should not be cut on the same slicer... I do not like it when my cheese is cross-contaminated with meat juices and meat grease. When I requested that my cheese not be cut on the same deli slicer as the meats, the clerk told me flat out -- NO --. and refused to slice my cheese on the other slicer. I explained how I did not want bits of meat and the meat greases being spread all over my cheese and the clerk still refused. I love their beefs, but this experience has made me want to find a new beef spot.

This is such a neat Italian deli with some Mexican flare. Everyone was was super friendly to us. We loved exploring the isles while we waited for our fresh sandwiches to be made. I was impressed by the thickly sliced bacon and other meats in the glass refrigerator counter. I got an eggplant parmesan sandwich with a side of cheese fries and my friend got an Italian sub. Both were delicious!

Their beef is excellent, although I found it to be somewhat inconsistent as of late (bland). Great marinara, meat balls, sausage, and nicely stocked grocery store. It's no Jewel (and that is a good thing!) but you "could" find everything you need for a complete meal. Italian beef is very subjective, so in spite of the fact that the last few orders came in a little bland, I'm still giving them 5-stars because of the combination of great service (especially butcher) and array of other products.

I was directed to Serrelli's by a guy I work with. I work in Home Appliances, so the topic of conversation whilst discussing high-end ranges generally leads to what to cook with your high-end range. Serrelli's is the type of grocery store you see in movies. The local market where the butchers run the cash register, and the guys shake your hands while still holding the cleaver. Everyone is cheery and the prices are reasonable. Parking is a little annoying because they are on North Ave. and it can get busy if you go during the wrong time of day. It is pretty far from where I live, so I have to make it an event to head down there, but it is WELL worth the time. What makes Serrelli's stand out from the crown is the Italian Beef. UNBELIEVABLE. I have tried beef from four or five different spots around town and this is by far the best. The price is reasonable - 10 lbs will set you back 30 dollars. Compare that to your typical 2.99/lb of regular ground beef from Dominiques and you have a winner no matter how you look at it. One catch is that they do not accept credit cards. They do have an ATM on location, but bring cash and you will be fine. Make sure you get a qt of extra juice (1.50ish) and you will be in Italian Beef Bliss. Actually thinking about it while writing this - - - - I will go pick some up tonight.

Read the reviews thought I'd check it out for a quick bite to eat. Sandwiches were average at best. Got my chicken sandwich without any hot or sweet peppers even though I talked to the lady at counter about it, she wrote it down but when ready to eat -missing. Disappointing. Service was lovely however I would improve attention to detail.
