The 17 Best Restaurants In Carmel

"When you think of the word “steakhouse,” you probably imagine wood-paneled walls, stiff leather booths, and stuffy dress codes. Seventh & Dolores is none of those things: It’s like a steakhouse had a baby with a Scandinavian design store, and somehow it works. While you could certainly go the whole nine steak yards here, we like to grab a seat at the bar for pre-dinner cocktails and people-watching. Look on as the kitchen does their thing while you sip a barrel-aged Manhattan or smoked Old Fashioned and dig into some steak tartare with a date or a good friend." - allison green, clara hogan

Where to Eat and Drink Around Monterey and Carmel

"It’s hard to miss this sleek, modern steakhouse in a city that’s mostly known for its chill, beachy vibes. But if you’re looking for a good excuse to get dressed up and step out on the town, Seventh & Dolores makes a suitable choice. The menu sticks pretty close to classics with starters such as oysters, salad, and tuna tartare followed by a lineup of 21-day wet-aged Niman Ranch steaks. For those avoiding red meat, there’s a slew of vegetable sides and a fish entree to choose from." - Lauren Saria, Paolo Bicchieri, Dianne de Guzman

Seventh & Dolores

"This highly anticipated rookie on the downtown scene boasts soaring ceilings, Crayola-bright pop art and crisp white linens. The result is an airy and deliciously polished modern room fit for a stylish crowd. A heated patio with large umbrellas is ideal for alfresco dining, weather permitting; inside, there’s a peek-a-boo look into the immaculate kitchen. If you land for lunch, don’t miss their excellent burger, ground from tender filet mignon, brisket and bone marrow. Come dinner however, guests tuck into a chilled asparagus salad with burrata, shaved bottarga and Calabrian chili oil enhanced with supplements like poached prawns. Make sure to get your steak fix by way of the steak frites with bordelaise sauce or the larger Niman Ranch steak and chops." - Michelin Inspector

One of the best steaks we’ve ever had. Service and ambiance were terrific along with the food. The sauce flight was an interesting touch as well. Thank you for a great night!

A Disappointing Return to What Was Once a Favorite I’ve visited Carmel-by-the-Sea every summer for the past 10 years, and dinner at 7th & Dolores has always been a highlight. This year, I brought friends and our children—excited to share a place I’ve always considered a staple. Unfortunately, the experience didn’t live up to its past reputation. Despite a warm greeting and a reservation for a window-side table, we were seated near the kitchen—loud music and traffic from the door made it hard to enjoy conversation. The kids enjoyed watching the kitchen, but the ambiance felt chaotic, not relaxed. Service was slow, even though it was a quiet Monday night. My filet was fatty (surprising for this place), the mushrooms were overcooked, and my Caesar salad was forgotten altogether. Our server didn’t return until halfway through the meal and made no effort to fix the oversight—just removed it from the bill. As a sommelier, I’ve always appreciated their wine program, but this time I was disappointed. The by-the-glass selection was limited, the Malbec tasted off, and the Cabernet Sauvignon was described as a “vendor blend that’s not great”—an odd way to talk about your own offerings. Several bottles we asked about weren’t available. If that’s the case, a printed update or a verbal note would be appreciated. To wrap things up, when the bill came, he initially forgot to include the wine and had to return with a revised check after I handed him my card. I’ve received an industry discount here in the past ( as a sommelier)—likely because I’ve sat at the bar—but this time I was told they didn’t honor that anymore, which is completely fine, but his tone in explaining it was unnecessarily curt. We skipped dessert due to the service delays but asked for a couple scoops of ice cream to go for the kids. Those were provided complimentary, which I appreciated. Still, with an automatic 20% gratuity included, I expected better service overall. This meal felt like a letdown—not just because of the hiccups, but because I had looked forward to sharing this spot with friends and building new memories here. Sadly, I won’t be returning next year. There are many great dining experiences to be had in Carmel and Monterey, and while I won’t name alternatives out of respect for the staff and ownership, I encourage anyone looking for a special steakhouse experience to explore other options. Just my two cents, from a longtime fan who hoped for better.

Google
Phenomenal bar and great steakhouse. They have a good collection of wines, bubbles, hard liquor and cocktails. Food was great right from the starters to maincourse and the dessert 🍮! It has a very lively bar. It has outside seating and indoor seating. Overall it has great atmosphere.

Our server Alejandro was incredible, he was very attentive and explained the menu options for us. He speaks English and Spanish so that was a plus. We had the Smoked Old fashioned 10/10 Bone in Rib eye cooked medium with a side sauce the Alejandro recommended 10/10 and mashed potatoes with the BEST mushrooms I’ve EVER had. Everything was unbelievable. The manager also walked around and made sure everything was good. He is a great manager for sure! Can’t wait to go back.

If I can give you 0 stars for service, I would. I made a RSVP for a special event, and I felt highly unwanted here. Staff and management made sure I was uncomfortable by their actions. I have never felt so discriminated against until I ended up here in this restaurant in Carmel. You know who you are!!! Big thumbs down to you who waited on me👎🏻😡

Google
This place was good. As someone who is not particularly motivated by meat, I found the options to be varied and good nods to California cuisine. I ordered fish and it was quite good! The halibut was cooked well and was juicy. The star of the dish was the ravioli, though. I would here constantly if they served big bowls of this Ravioli. Truly excellent. Maybe they have a future as a pasta spot? I think there could have been some restraint in the presentation of the food. A little less garnish, a little less sauce, a few less ingredients. I think if the chef were to pull back a bit and really focus on the flavors of the ingredients, it could be a truly excellent establishment. Additionally, a few of the items served in bowls came out with food dripping down the sides. At the price point, everything should be pristine. It takes only a little bit of care to ensure a seamless presentation. It's definitely something that should be addressed by the kitchen. The service was good, if a little too good at times, with very eager waiters. I figure in this area people prefer a more hands-on experience whereas I prefer a more hands-off experience. Just a personal preference. They were all very kind and great at their jobs. The atmosphere is somehow lacking, despite the beautiful building. Though I don't think I will ever eat here again personally, it's a good spot worth the stop if you're into this type of food.

I'm writing this review only to highlight the outstanding service we received from Camillo. He was the only server we saw on the floor, attentively taking care of every table—all while maintaining a genuine smile. His dedication and positive attitude truly made our night.

Google
One word: BOMB. We got the endive and radicchio salad 10/10. The focaccia was just good very simple and not bad, I think they should do a regular bread service besides that option, it would really elevate the already great service and atmosphere. For entree we got the 36 day dry aged ribeye. 10000000/10. If we had room we would have finished the whole thing which we pretty much did. The side we chose was the twice baked potato another 10/10. It is VERY rich and creamy. We split all of this between the two of us and it was more than enough food. Can’t wait to come back and visit. I also had the smoked old fashioned from the cocktail menu which was a cool experience and very delicious. All in all we highly recommend, can’t wait for my next Carmel trip to try this again.

Yelp
Over dinner I had an existential conversation with a 13 year old about gratitude, what it meant to earn things and the rights we had to honor each other. "Dad, I don't like fancy things" and in my worst parts I whispered back, "Son, we're three blocks from aubergine and six years past any stars worth mentioning". The Deluxe seafood tower, 50oz tomahawk, and a bottle of Bernardus to be safe. I bragged aloud that I studied the menu before coming. Intention I thought. My son isn't in town everyday. Carmel is worlds away from New Hampshire and I wanted food that would take us just as far. To avoid my flair for the dramatic. See below; Pros: - phenomenal wine list - Music so loud you don't have to listen to your date Cons: - underwhelming in all aspects of the word. 50ozs of what I could have found elsewhere at a quarter of the price - Lack of process discipline and menu knowledge. Know what 4 dollar 1 ounce sauces you're giving me or don't. Don't bullshit your way through it. Approach from the right, retrieve from the left. - This rancid, sewage smell you get when you first walk in. To conclude. Half a thinking man's week for food better avoided. Lacking where it should have been easy and too much where it needed less.

Yelp
We came here unsure of what to expect, as we tend to pick alternative cuisines to steakhouses. Boy we are glad we visited, however, not for the reason you might expect. Yes, one of us had steak and well, a steak is a steak. The dish which blew us away was the ribs. It was leaps and bounds better than the steak - which might be surprising for a steakhouse. We would come back just for the ribs. Is it expensive? Yes, but you are in Carmel.

Yelp
Perfect dinner spot for special occasion. My partner and I got the Surf and Turf entree which included scallops. The scallops were succulent, buttery, delicious, and cooked to perfection. Not pictured were fries with truffle aioli that was (chef's kiss). I'm mad I can't remember our servers name. He was extremely helpful and accommodating. The restaurant was dimly light and music played in background was perfect combination.

Yelp
Loved coming here! From the service to the food, everything was perfect. The vibe inside isn't like your typical steakhouse. It feels more clubbish, which is kind of fun for the Carmel area. Definitely suggest saving room for dessert.

Yelp
My partner and I came here for our 2 year anniversary. Walking in, the restaurant feels bright and modern with high ceilings. We were seated upon arrival. First notice was that the music was kind of loud. It gave off this sort of hip vibe, less a romantic one. Food: We were given an amuse bouche of a cauliflower soup. It was pretty good. We started with the baked focaccia. It was pretty good, but it was such a small portion. For the entree, I ordered the burrata salad. It was barely a salad. The burrata was delicious, but it seemed pretty bare. We shared the mashed potatoes and fries. Both were standard. My partner ordered a filet, and it was okay. Service: Service felt very lackluster. It took sometime for us to be greeted once we were seated. Once we ordered, our food did come out promptly from the kitchen. However, our server did not come by to check on us. It was difficult to get refills on water. TL;DR - Modern restaurant with lackluster service

Yelp
My husband and I visited Seventh & Dolores on a recent trip to Carmel by the Sea. The restaurant has a great vibe with high ceilings and artwork all around. Our server was friendly and patient as we made our selections. We both opted for the daily specials. We started with the dungeness crab cakes. My husband opted for a filet mignon and added scallops as an accompaniment. I ordered the fresh catch of the day, Alaskan Halibut. All of the food was prepared perfectly. This restaurant is definitely a special occasion restaurant. As other reviewers have mentioned, be prepared to pay the tourist tax. I would've wished for a better wine by the glass list. Their bottle list boasts a lot of great options but the by the glass options could be improved.

Yelp
This steak was everything I hoped for. It was cooked exactly how I like it, with a perfect balance of tenderness and flavor. The seasoning brought out the natural taste of the meat so well. I would highly recommend this place.

Yelp
I had their porterhouse steak, and it was an unforgettable meal. The steak was thick and cooked evenly, keeping it juicy and flavorful. The baked potato on the side was fluffy and loaded with toppings. I left completely satisfied.
google avatar

Swancey M.

Yelp
I enjoyed the New York strip, which had a great sear and was full of flavor. The vegetables on the side were slightly overdone, but the steak itself was fantastic.
google avatar

Tonita R.

Yelp
The filet mignon was incredibly tender and cooked perfectly to medium rare. The red wine reduction was rich and flavorful, complementing the steak beautifully. The roasted potatoes were slightly underseasoned, but overall, it was a great meal.

Yelp
Lovely venue and lively atmosphere. The service was excellent. He explained everything and was very attentive. We ordered the 10z filet mignon and pinot noir braised short rib. Both very delicious, flavorful and tender. Our desserts were excellent too! We ordered the chef's creme brulee and apple cinnamon bread pudding.

Yelp
Food was absolutely delicious! The service was quick and our waiter was extremely welcoming and recommended some really good options in the menu. The outdoor patio has a lot of heater lamps and fire pits, we will definitely come back!
google avatar

Eric B.

Yelp
The food and service were decent. However, the ambience was cold and pricing was unreasonable. To top it off, they tell you how much to tip and add it to your bill for only a party of two, just because it is in Carmel??

Williby G.

Yelp
The ribeye steak here is cooked to perfection! It's tender, juicy, and seasoned just right. The mashed potatoes on the side were creamy and delicious, but the steamed vegetables could have been fresher. The staff were attentive and made the experience enjoyable.
google avatar

Chloe Y.

Yelp
Ordered French onion soup which was good. But a-little too thick. Def not the best French onion we had. Ordered Caesar salad - which was okay. Dry aged steak/they didn't cook it at the temperature we wanted but it was okay we didn't want to send it back. Brussel sprouts could have cooked more homogeneous and fries were okay. They brought the fries with truffle mayo which we hardly tasted the truffle. Restaurant was cold inside I couldn't get to take my coat off. I asked to sit somewhere cozy and warm but the hostess ended up sitting us right by the patio door which was resulted us having very unpleasant experience. I think you can eat much better steak at a lot of other restaurants for a better price.

Yelp
Made a reservation for an outside table but they sat us inside because it was potentially going to rain. We also selected that we were celebrating a birthday on the reservation and they didn't acknowledge this so we didn't say anything. You're gunna have to let them know in person. The playlist here it was IMPECCABLE!!! Lots of great vibey music. I started off with a Virgin Margarita which was very tasty and delightful. Hubby ordered a smoked old fashioned which came out in a glass cover that when removed it was quite literally smoking! He said he liked it. We tried the pan seared Octopus in a coconut curry sauce which was a great consistency but a bit in the salty side. I still enjoyed it. I ordered the Bone-In Rib Eye which was a LOT of meat but also a LOT of fat. Very flavorful. Cooked perfectly (asked for medium rare) not too salty. The side I paired it with was the mushrooms and pear onions. I can't recommend this enough! And if you're not into mushrooms you've got to try the Brussels Sprouts in a miso sauce! They're to die for. Everything had a nice little char to it. Took a while but that is how you know it's good. All good things take time. We were a bit full so we did not order desserts but if you come here on your birthday you get a cool firework candle. The bill ended up being about $400 but honestly it was all worth it because the ingredients were high quality and our server was knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the menu making it a really memorable experience here. Next time I want to splurge I will most likely return

Yelp
Five stars! Remarkable service, incredible food, and a grand yet intimate ambiance. We enjoyed ourselves so much. There are so many fantastic options in Carmel, however this place is really special and gives you a big city feel in quaint Carmel. It's sophisticated, welcoming, extravagant yet approachable. Enjoy enjoy enjoy!!

Yelp
I'm a local, and all my friends and business partners have recommended Seventh & Dolores to my fiancee and I to try out. I work with a lot of wineries, and a lot of the growers told me to try their menu. As I arrived, I went to the host and asked if there was anything available for two. She had dark hair brown eyes Hispanic. The waiter next to her listened and looked around for a table for us. She asked if we had a reservation, and I said no. ( I wasn't informed by my colleagues) I should have done a bit more research. Anyways, she said there was no room their tables were all reserved, and the only thing open was the community table and bar area. Which confused me because only the back patio seemed full, but inside, there were open tables with no reserved signs. She answered rudly, and I didn't make much out of it, I understand that when you work in the industry of service, you're gonna experience moments of frustration. She wasn't really clear what sections were part of the bar / community area, and the waiter looked confused as to why she wouldn't tell us more. As I looked at the area and saw that there were no stools open for two, I went back and thanked them for the efforts. She ignored me, and the waiter thanked us. So I went to Mission Ranch where we usually go for dinner other than Forge in the Forest. I was looking forward to their steaks and wine. Basically, Make sure you call ahead, and if there's no seating, be sure to check out Mission Ranch of Forge in the Forest. They have superb service.

Yelp
We just dined at 7D and we are thoroughly impressed by everything: food, service, and ambiance! The food was amazing. From the minute we sat down, we were greeted by countless number of service members. We would like to highlight Jessica who was our main server. She made our experience exceptional! Her attention to detail and quick service were fantastic. Thank you for a wonderful experience!

Stacy S.

Yelp
The soup was very delicious, the bread was fresh and flavorful, scallops were cooked perfectly along with the grits. The filet had blue cheese melted on top with some garlic and cooked a perfect medium rare.. The potatoes were light and very tasty. The broccolini was toasted and cooked well. The service was top notch. We were too full to be able to try dessert. High-end meal, expect that in the cost.
google avatar

Yelp
Great food, great service, and all around a solid joint for some fine dining. The menu leans steak, but there are a few other protein options like duck, sea bass, chicken. Expansive wine list and drink menu. Steak was cooked perfectly and sides were delicious. Service was not just attentive, but friendly. Great spot in Carmel.

Gary A.

Yelp
My wife & I had dinner here this evening & went in expecting a great steak dinner. We split a 14 ounce New York strip, along with a salad & 2 sides. The strip had very little flavor & was chewy. Our salad was very good & the sides were fine but for a supposed high end steakhouse it was very disappointing & extremely overpriced.

Yelp
ALWAYS LOTS OF OPTIONS IN CARMEL~ Lot of changes in downtown especially since covid ~ The name is also the address for this establishment. We were here the weekend after Car Week so people/staff were happy (& tired) to have that behind them. This was clearly had been a bank or Saving & Loan before it became a restaurant so lots of windows, high ceilings for that very open area dining experience ~ the only flaw in this is it can get quite loud our seating for 4 pp was in a banquette & 2 chairs and this nite the noise wasn't to bad. Also they have an outside patio area (with heaters) this could be a lovely option on that rare not so cold weather occasion in Carmel. The menu has lots of interesting options plus some shareable selections are always more FUN! Full Bar also featuring some interesting cocktails, one such feature is the "Steak Martini" the olive is stuffed with bleu cheese then wrapped with a seared piece of filet steak....YESSS! I had to have one (made with gin) and it was entirely DEEELISSH~ Don't knock it till you tried it We shared the BLT salad, just what it sounds like without bread, YUMMY (and less carbs ) also a rosemary focaccia served still warm in a small ramekin ideal 4 pie shaped pieces, and warmed mediterranean olives ~ Steaks are featured and this nite they offered a sort of Surf & Turf which was plentiful and i was told, tasted great. My husband had the NR pork chop which all he left was the bone, so clearly he adored it, I enjoyed 2 apps for dinner the onion soup full of cheesy goodness and the shrimp app, just perfect and left enuf room to share the goat cheese beignets with blackberry jam dipping sauce.... Crunchy deep fried on the outside with warm creamy goat cheese cake like inside then a dip of the jam you can guess how DEEEEELISH these were. My mouth is watering just remembering them Our server was knowledgeable, friendly & certainly knew the menu and chitty chatted with us when he could which we all liked~ Parking can be a challenge in Carmel but don't let this deter you, reservations should be made however a small bar area is always an option for walk ins.

Yelp
Fine dining, welcoming atmosphere, a traditional steakhouse with a new breath of fresh air! Servers are knowledgeable and friendly! And most of all, the chef and his team prepare meals fit for a king!

Yelp
This is the best restaurant that I have EVER been to in the WORLD! I've eaten in Paris, London and Rome! The food was simply amazing, and very flavorful. But the cherry on top was the outstanding service! Everyone was very attentive to our needs, very kind and GENUINE! I asked our waiter about the chef who then offered him to come say hi to us! We had to personally thank the chef for how amazing our food was!

Yelp
In some strange fit of I-don't-know-what, I did not read the reviews before making a reservation here. I wanted a nice dinner in Carmel for our trip but my top 2 choices weren't open on the night we were there. The menu looked good, so I made the resy. Before going to dinner, I happened to glance through some reviews and became a little anxious. It was too late to cancel, so... YOLO. Sadly, I have to say that I concur with Cherylynn's review. This place is overpriced and I would not come here for the food. The service, drinks, and dessert were good, and the outdoor patio is nice. But otherwise, eat somewhere else, and come here for dessert and nightcap. APPETIZER - Charred Octopus The octopus was a little tough (difficult to cut) and the sauce was pretty salty. The mint leaves are a nice garnish to lighten the flavors a bit. MAIN - 24oz Wet-aged Ribeye, medium rare Overcharred and slightly overcooked. I haven't had wet aged steak before, but for some reason, the steak wasn't too tender or juicy. As the steak got colder, it became stringy and dry. Pretty awful to eat, eventually. We left like 1/3 of the steak. Was super sad about that because it was like 90 bucks. SAUCE FLIGHT - Truffle butter, Borderlaise, Brandy Peppercorn, Bearnaise Aioli, Horseradish, Ponzu We got the sauce flight so you don't have to. It's $30 and only worth if you're in a part of at least 4 people (there's too much sauce). All in all, we liked the Borderlaise (sp?) the best. This is the red wine reduction. The other sauces were fine but didn't really add too much to the steak. Of course the truffle butter is delicious, but it's overpowering. I liked the Bernaise aioli but it didn't add much to the steak. The ponzu was by far the worst; it was super salty. A good steak doesn't need sauce, and if the sauce doesn't add to the steak, then it's just a waste of money. SIDES - Broccolini, Gratin Dauphinois Potatoes Broccolini was overcharred. The florets basically became dust as you bite into it. The potates were pretty good, but for like 20 bucks, you get a small square. DESSERT - Chocolate Terrine, Chocolate Martini, Moscato The terrine was delicious. It was pretty rich so good as a shared item. The chocolate martini was pretty delicious and went well with the terrine.

Yelp
The Iberico Pork Chop Marmalade Glazed, Sliced, Salinas Oranges, Cracked Olives, Baby Kale made a most delicious pork chop. The sweet marmalade made the chop juicy while the olives offset the sweet & the kale rounded out the whole gorgeous piece of meat!!! I absolutely loved it & by far my most favorite pork chop ever. I swapped out the grits for Gratin Dauphinois Potatoes w/ White Cheddar, Black Truffle & they did not disappoint!!! Wow!! My Son also loved his Dry Aged Rib Eye Steak. Service was exceptional, Front End Staff was Superb, Ambience was warm & I loved the architecture.

Yelp
OMG. WOW. What a rip off. This truly is a restaurant that takes advantage of wealthy tourists. I am sure they have done a great job marketing to bougie local hotels and other influencers. Even our waiter said the owners work "super hard" at social media presence. I just don't get this place. The prices are outrageous. Ambience is "meh". NO PERSONALITY. Wine list is impressive but at 3x average retail, well, let's just say, "PRICEY AS F--K." VERY few bottles less than $100 because this is a fancy place. Food was good but $18 for a baked potato??? $84 gets you surf and turf: 2 tiny beef medallions (not sure if they were filets) and 2 shrimp (ok they came in their shell so it looks fancy), plus a dollop of potatoes. Steaks are all Uber-pricey. it just seems like this place preys on the rich tourists visiting. Hey, if this is what they want, if this helps them see our world as paradise, then take their money!!!!! We are locals, enjoy eating places like Coastal Kitchen, Auberge, Stokes Adobe, Valley Kitchen and Cella - and this place is just not in the same league. So if you are looking for a sterile ambience, super expensive place where servers ask you, "who had the salmon?", well then waste your resources at 7th & Delores.

Yelp
Love the cocktails. Amazing service. Bone in rib eye is fantastic. Love the atmosphere, big city vibe and style in charming downtown Carmel.

Yelp
Not everything was amazing, but the things that were amazing were incredibly amazing! Great vibe, cocktails, great entrees. We had a smoked old fashioned & a Manhattan. The old fashion was delish and it was served in a really fun way. The Manhattan was also delish. We shared a special salad that had peaches. It was good, but I felt it was slightly over-dressed. A little disappointing, but still good enough to eat. One of our entrees was filet mignon served with truffle butter (I know, I know...Nicki Minaj kinda ruined truffle butter, but NOT this one!) that was fabulous! Just. Fabulous. The other entree was miso butter sea bass with kimchi soubise, charred cabbage & bomba rice. It was, hands down, the best sea bass I've ever had. I ate every bite. Im not sure which one I liked better because they both made me feel like I was going to faint. As a side, we shared the creamy grits, and they were pretty underwhelming. We didn't order dessert, but they brought out a birthday slice of cake AND sang which was a nice touch. Overall, I cannot wait to go back. Im not sure I could try anything else because wheat we had was so good, but I might be more careful with my sides/salad. Go, go, go!

Yelp
NOT FAMILY FRIENDLY. Immediately we were seated at the furthest and worst table simply because we were with our two daughters, upon asking for a table change we were not helped and just given some excuse even though there were plenty of others available. We ordered two ribeyes, brussel sprouts, asparagus, fries, I got oysters and caviar, we weren't hesitant to eat well but still felt like we were being avoided or something. All the food was just alright, undoubtedly and totally overpriced. Our food also took an hour to arrive with two hungry kids, and we had requested for the fries to come first since it's fast and easy usually so the kids can munch on something but even the fries took an hour to arrive, a regular old fries appetizer, really? It was almost as if they just put our family last in every way or forgot about our order altogether, and once the fries arrived they were just plain old fries, nothing fancy about them, not like they cooked them to perfection then had a unicorn dance around them for extra magical seasoning, and there were like 15 fries altogether, ugh cmon. A manager or something did eventually approach and ask how everything was and only after telling him we'd been waiting did things get moving, albeit still slowly. To top it all off our bill had a mandatory 20% gratuity included that we were never told about, we were two parents/adults, our 3 year old, and our 2 year old, not some large party or something, and prices were already pretty silly. Just ridiculous. Carmel has been our annual family destination for a few years and everything here is always great, but this was our first at this restaurant which is in no way positively contributing to the reputation of the town. Highly don't recommend supporting a business like this in an otherwise wonderful place, they are prioritizing people and tables that seem more appropriate for their standards, and their standards are simply unacceptable and honestly unfair. Just go elsewhere, so many great restaurants in Carmel, at least they are putting in genuine effort to satisfy every guest who walks into their business, FAMILIES INCLUDED, this place simply ain't it. I was single and ready to impress with places like this once, foolishly paying outrageous prices and making excuses for why it takes so long to cook a good ribeye knowing nothing. As a parent and an adult who's more experienced now, this place is a joke, dollar signs in their eyes instead of neighbors and community, inflated wait times, and basic food. I'll bet locals would never be caught at this restaurant. Don't let the architecture and initial noisy ambience fool you, it's just a dangling carrot.

Yelp
I'm amazed at some of the low ratings on the restaurant as we had an unbelievable experience here last night as we celebrated my 70th birthday with some friends. From the moment we walked in we were treated first class. The restaurant interior is very clean and contemporary and the place was packed! Our waiter was spot on with his recommendations and food was outrageously delicious. I can't say enough great things about 7th and Deloris. Just be prepared as this place is expensive but we'll worth the prices.

Yelp
Seventh & Dolores in Carmel by the Sea is my favorite steakhouse. We came here for my Dads birthday and enjoyed the tomahawk and ribeye specials. My mother's vegan and she enjoyed the carrot steak. Their wine list is awesome. Their sommelier does a good job of bringing in both local and international wines. We enjoyed a bottle of the Folktale Pinot Noir. The manager was awesome and came out and talked to us. Thank you chef and thanks Rigo! We will be back.

Yelp
I went to Carmel-by-the-sea for Valentine's weekend with my boyfriend. We decided to stop by this restaurant to celebrate our first Valentine's Day together. We needed to pay $100 in advance to make a reservation. We were so excited to have dinner there. What I liked there: The restaurant is so beautiful. The architecture and interior design are perfect! We ordered drinks at the bar and the Pomegranate Caipirinha was wonderful. My boyfriend loves steak and he said that the fillet mignon was delicious. I tried the steak tartare and it was very good. What I didn't like there: I didn't like the service, especially in this level of restaurant, I think they should improve this aspect. We ordered broccolini and it came burnt. I was wondering how the waiter could server something like that. They should have thrown it away and made another one. We paid for the burnt broccolini, trust me! Unfortunately, we left the restaurant very disappointed. If someone asks me about this place, I'll definitely recommend to go to other places nearby.

Yelp
The only good thing about this place besides the ambiance was the service. Our waiter was extremely attentive and very knowledgeable about the menu. However the food was just ok and especially for that big of a price tag you would hope to get something tastier. My partner also specifically went there the day prior to point out the table he wanted to sit at for our reservation and they acknowledged it but when we got there they say the table was taken already and took us to another table. Anyway won't be coming back! Appetizers: Brussel sprouts 7/10: pretty standard Roasted cauliflower 2/10: came in 2 halves so the inside was still raw, I prefer softer but the bechamel sauce on it was good. I could only eat the outside of the head since that was cooked well and saved the inside for when I got home to recook it. Belgium style fries 1/10: honestly frozen fries would be better and it was basically with a side of tasteless mayo. Main: Handcut ribeye steak 7/10: We got it medium rare and it was essentially rare. I just ate the sides and my partner ate the inside. Flavor was good and the roasted garlic on top was a nice spread for the steak but other than that it was just ok. I've had better at small diners

Yelp
Just left having dinner there tonight. It was the loudest restaurant I've been to in my life! Thinking the noise level couldn't get any worse, they started to play music, not classical or soft music, but club headbanging music. Ordered NY steak, it came with cold roasted garlic on top. Why? I would have left but my husband made the reservations specifically for us to celebrate our anniversary.

Yelp
The experience was poor from beginning to end. Our reservation was not held for us. They questioned whether we even made a reservation. After waiting over an hour we asked where our food was and waiter gave us a rude answer. While we waited for our entrees to arrive sat and watched every other table get their dinners even though they were seated after us. We didn't get an apology or an explanation about the delay when our dinner was finally served. The waiter never told us about their dinner specials nor did he check to see if we liked our dinner after it was served. We later then found out that gratuity was automatically included in the bill. The worst part was my husband became very sick afterwards with food poisoning from his steak. The whole experience was terrible and very overpriced. I do not recommend this restaurant to anyone.

Yelp
I realize I need to write some "room to improve' reviews, but this one isn't gonna be the one to get me balanced out with my rating distribution. Nope. After a day of hiking along the coast with my gal pals, a yummy wine tasting around the corner, and walking through the rain looking for a place to eat on a Saturday evening when the Golf Tournament was cancelled earlier... We stumbled into 7D looking like a bunch of feral cats emerging from the dumpster after a storm. The hostess welcomed us with a smile (which was very comforting after being rejected from a few other places due to our lack of reservations). They were full as well, but she quickly told us she would see what she could to to get us in. YAY!!! Someone came over and said that if we were open to it, we could eat on the patio (that was partially covered by an overhang) and they would turn on the heaters for us. "We're in!" We pushed the table up against the building so we were all (mostly) sheltered from the rain and VOILA, our table for four was set. The server was fantastic. He praised us for our bravery to eat outside in that weather and all the jokes that followed truly made our experience. The wine and cocktails were fabulous! I'm not sure we were looking to have a bougie dining experience while soaking wet and in hiking attire, but here we were totally excited about all the options for dinner. We ended up ordering a ton of things to share so we could have it all. Here's what we had and I took VIDEOS it was so beautifully presented and orgasmic on the palette. Ahi Tuna Tartare 10oz Filet Mignon Miso Sea Bass Braised Short Ribs Roasted Mushrooms Triple Cream Potato Puree Brussel Sprouts Desserts: Apple Bread Pudding, Chocolate Terrine, and Créme Brulee. Can't remember the drinks or wine. I think I got the Patroni? The service was extraordinary and I will forever return and happily spend more $$ than I want to because I'll always remember our Green Eggs & Ham experience when they let us eat In the Rain at a table on the patio in the wind while dressed in soaking wet hiking clothes on a Saturday night.

Yelp
Why is the overall rating not closer to 5 stars?? This place was fantastic from head to toe. The hosts, the waitress, the drinks, the food, the dessert, the decor, the vibe... I'm so confused! We got the BLT app - so delicious. Then we got the half dozen oysters but did half raw and half baked. They were both SO good. Then my husband and I split the short ribs and the fish. Both were fantastic. To finish we had their sundae. The cocktails were fun, strong and delicious. People are categorically wrong for giving this place anything less than 4 stars.

Yelp
Best of my life! I love every dish. I drink their wine by the bottle and I DO NOT DRINK. That is how much I love their wine. It is so lovely inside, I adore the ambiance and music It's super duper expensive, we paid $300 for our meal (we did get a whole bottle of wine) NO REGRETS!

Yelp
tl;dr Overall, I was surprised the star of the meal was the fish, while the steak took a more supporting role. Prices are on the higher side, even for Bay Area standards and they automatically add a 20% service charge. Reservations are made via Tock and require a $50/pp deposit that goes towards your meal. You can choose either indoor or outdoor seating. The outdoor area does have heat warmers, but we decided to go with indoor so that our food wouldn't get cold quickly. Unfortunately, the only way to make changes is to call the restaurant directly, which was a bit annoying. They offered a complimentary amuse bouche, which was a butternut squash soup shot with toasted pumpkin seeds. Miso butter basted sea bass: This was fantastic! The sea bass was super buttery and very tender. Highly recommend. 14oz NY strip steak: Steak was cooked medium rare as requested. I wished the fat was rendered more as it was a bit chewy. Overall, although it was well prepared, I didn't think it was special. I'm just as satisfied with steaks that I make myself. Broccolini: Again, very well prepared. The ends were crispy and the sauce had a nice sweet flavor from the peppers. Belgium Style fries: Appreciated that they came out crispy and comes with truffle aioli and ketchup.

Yelp
One of my favorite places in Carmel. Outstanding service, the food is always delicious. My go to place, if you are in Carmel definitely worth stopping by even for a drink.

Yelp
While on a visit to Carmel By The Sea, this place came recommended by our hotel staff. We were celebrating a special evening anyway so we decided to give it a try. The space is beautiful. Very modern and clean. The acoustics make it a bit noisy especially on a busy night. But otherwise a really nice space. Service was friendly and on point. From the hostess to our server, everyone checked in at the right times and gave us some good suggestions. The food was pretty excellent. We started with the focaccia which was delicious. I had the NY Strip Steak which was cooked perfectly. We shared a bunch of sides which were all very good, and we also shared an ice cream sundae at the end which was amazing. I'd say the only drawback to this place was the price. It was definitely overpriced. I've been to a few Michelin star restaurants that don't charge nearly was this place charges. And my other gripe is with the standard 20% service added to every bill. Not a fan of that. If it weren't for those two things, this would've been a 5 star review.

Yelp
Came here on a Monday to celebrate a special occasion. The service was solid, and I appreciated our waiter, Brent, brought us some celebratory bubbles when we came in. That was a great first touch point. We started with the focaccia, which was tasty, but needed an oil or some kind of dipping sauce to counter the dryness. I was excited about the French onion soup, but it was simply way too heavy and salty. It was more of a gravy than a soup. I did enjoy the Caesar salad. We got the pork chop to split with three sides -- mushrooms, broccolini, and potato au gratin. I'll start by saying I almost never send things back to the kitchen, but the pork chop was over seasoned and way overcooked and we just could not eat it, it was so dry and tough. I think the kitchen cutting into it before served dried the heck out of it. The potato was very lame -- lacking flavor or any texture. The charred broccoli was nice, as were the mushrooms, and they had a solid wine selection. Overall my experience echos many other reviews. The food here just isn't worth the cost in my experience. It's clear the ingredients are quality and stellar, but the kitchen needs some refinement to match up to the front of house and level of service. Also for me personally, the inside space was very cold and I couldn't stand the loud electronic music most of the time -- it took away from the elegance of the space.

Yelp
One of the best rib eye steaks I've ever had. Great quality meat and cooked perfectly by the chef.

Yelp
Jeez their reviews have gone down... I wish ppl would be a little more understanding, we're still in the middle of a pandemic. Yes, there is a $50 per seat deposit (surprise, you'll spend that per person easily, you aren't losing any money) and they don't charge a deposit for kids. Yes, the lay out isn't great, it's awkward, they had to rearrange their restaurant to accommodate social distancing and you're in Carmel, space is already limited. You may end up with a less desirable spot, but grab a drink, relax... it doesn't matter where you sit, doesn't change the taste of your food. Yes, I also did not get a great table, and it was extremely cold. But I still enjoyed myself and did not take away from my experience. Now, I picked this place cause they actually label things Gluten Free, thank you! I hate going to places, having to ask, and I feel difficult, and that does alter my experience. Staff was great, friendly. Drinks were really good and fresh. Steak was cooked perfectly! But really the highlight was the potato Mille Feuille, my biggest complaint is how tiny it is! When they do family style sides, it is very disappointing small, single like portion! My daughter and I were fighting for every bite. Next time we'll get 2 or maybe 6... It's a fun night out! Lively, staff is friendly. It's popular, make reservations, and don't be a jerk.

Yelp
The food was good but not greeaaattt especially for the price. What made it great was the service and the people I was with. It's just a cute spot. I wouldn't return because the cost plus the food just didn't add up for me
