I was pleasantly surprised—the food surpassed my expectations. I really enjoyed the Philly cheese steak sandwich, and my friends liked theirs too: the fried chicken sandwich and lamb gyro. When they say spicy, they mean spicy. It is casual dining, fast-food style. Especially because there are not a lot of halal places in the area, this was a great find for us!

Google
I hadn’t been to Shah’s Halal in over a year, so I decided to revisit. The price of the rice plates has gone up a bit to $11.99 - not a dealbreaker on its own. However, the meal has also fallen victim to shrinkflation. The takeout box is noticeably smaller and shallower, with a portion size comparable to a bare-bones Chipotle bowl (the kind you get when you order online and feel shortchanged). Even the utensils have shrunk - the plastic spoon looks like it's about two-thirds the size of a standard one. Shah’s used to be cheap, fast, and filling. That value proposition has diminished.

The food was amazing! Definitely a good place for people in the lowell area to try out. Food is fresh and service is great.

Chris and his team’s customer service is off the hook. Best food in Vernon!!! I wish I could give 10 stars

Google
Food: I got the salad platter with chicken & lamb. It was rather bland in flavor, all I could taste is diluted white sauce which should be more creamy, tangy, and garlicky. They did put a good amount of chicken and taste rather tender, but ediable at best. The lamb wasn't as gamey which isn't bad but I didn't nearly had the same amount as I did with the chicken. Service: The service was fine, they made sure I got everything I wanted in my salad. There's muiltiple team-members helping you out in the stations so pay attention to where your food is going as each section moves. Ambiance:It was during a rush after a concert ended so it was a bit chaotic, it's small and def gives off the vibe of when you're out and hungry, this is the place to grab a quick bite. Location accommodation: They have a limited ourdoor seating and there barely side parking as this is near a college so theres quite amount of people traffic passing by.

Google
Shah’s Halal is a solid spot for quick and affordable halal food. While the quality isn’t top-tier, the prices are incredibly low, and that more than makes up for it. It’s a great option when you’re craving something filling and flavorful without spending much. The portions are generous, and everything is halal, which is a big plus. Perfect for a casual meal on a budget!

Google
We got food from here for the first time through Uber eats while it was on special offer. We had the lamb gyro, chicken over rice platter, baklava, Honey cake. The food was so amazing, came with nice sauce and flavor. Great meat portion, fresh salads and sides. Price was so affordable even without the offer. The food portion was large and good for the price. We purchased from this place two times after our first time. Definitely a great place to try some Mediterranean foods.

Google
I ordered a platter from Shah’s Halal through Uber Eats and had a terrible experience. The portion size was way too small, salad was missing even though I specifically requested it, and the chicken was undercooked with a bad odor — it was not safe to eat. The overall quality of the food was extremely poor and felt like a complete waste of money. This kind of food should not be served to customers. I strongly advise others to avoid ordering from this restaurant. Definitely not worth the risk or the cost.

Yelp
Had to order from here after arriving late in Boston and honestly I was skeptical with all the negative reviews here. DONT LET THEM KEEP YOU AWAY FROM THE DELICIOUSNESS. idk the experience of everyone else on here (a lot of them seem to be delivery issues rather than food) but I got my Uber eats order just fine and let me tell you - it was delicious!! Super tender meat, fluffy rice, green sauce slapped a lil white sauce on the side was good (and also in packets!), and the veggies had a good freshness and crunch. I think this place is a chain (I've had it in ATL) and it seems to be consistent in quality. So good!

Yelp
Ever since they stopped doing delivery through Grubhub my frequency of eating their food has reduced but the cravings have increased :) So yesterday when I was passing by and saw they weren't too crowded inside I went in to get some take out. Got the usual platters - chicken over rice, kofta kebab over rice and lamb over rice - with all toppings included fresh lettuce, cucumbers, tomatoes, onions, chick peas, along with the white and green sauces. I skipped the red hot sauce - sometimes it can get too spicy if they put too much lol! Also got the hot chicken wings. I got all the food fairly quickly about 10 minutes or so and service was friendly! Carried out the hot food happily back home sniffing the wings - was so tempted to start eating the wings as I was walking but held it together till I got home! Food was awesome as usual- meats were tender and flavorful, fresh veggies were nice and wings were great! Yummy yummy for my tummy! The place is decent and I've seen people eating in here - the walls are colorful. They seem very busy with a lot of pickup orders. Hands down a regular favorite of ours! And very reasonable prices for really good food!
google avatar

Jimmy N.

Yelp
Tried their spicy wings for the first time. Pretty much wing dings size. There was a kick to the wings. Not going to lie, I actually liked it a lot lol dip with their white sauce, it was really good. Since they changed their packaging, they have been way better. Portion wise too.

Yelp
The food is actually pretty good, and they give you a good quantity too. Generous with the meat. HOWEVER, we ordered through postmates and got a staple mixed into our food. That is unacceptable. It wasn't on the edge of the food, it was hidden in the food. Also, there are no staples in the food packaging, so I'm not sure how it even got in there. This is an extremely dangerous food safety issue and needs to be addressed immediately.

Yelp
My new go-to halal joint in the Fenway area! I recently ordered takeout from here and was super happy with the experience - not only were the prices reasonable, but the portions were massive. I ordered the combo rice platter with a side of pita and fries. The meat, veggies, and sauces in the platter were delicious. The flavors meshed together very well. The rice tasted a bit different than some other halal places I've been to in the past, but it was still tasty. The pita was nice and fresh and the fries were absolutely perfect. Everything was super filling and satisfying! Highly recommend if you're looking for some easy, tasty takeout.
google avatar

Yelp
Bowls are excellent, flavorful and delicious! I ordered half chicken/falafel. White sauce is so good I recommend asking for extra. Hummus - so smooth and delicious. I will eat here again before we leave to go home

Yelp
Shah's Halal is my absolute go-to spot, and I'm singing its praises with a solid five stars! It all started when a friend recommended it, and ever since that first visit, I've been hooked. Let's talk about the Chicken Platter - it's a game-changer! The perfectly seasoned and grilled chicken, coupled with the flavorful rice and veggies, creates a symphony of taste that keeps me coming back for more. I've practically turned into a regular because of this irresistible dish. The atmosphere is laid-back, and the staff is always welcoming. It's the kind of place where you feel right at home, and that's a big plus for me. Every visit is a consistent delight, and the quality of the food is unmatched. What's impressive is the affordability without compromising on taste. Shah's has become my comfort food haven, and I can't get enough. If you're into delicious, affordable, and authentic halal cuisine, do yourself a favor and hit up Shah's Halal.

Yelp
I eat only halal.. and I couldn't find much in Boston area. I door dashed first time from my hotel. And I was in LOVE! The food is delicious, their sauce is so yummy. Every time I go to Boston, I have to have this at least once or twice.... Thrice. I wish they open a branch in MI! Service was nice too.
google avatar

Yelp
I am not AT ALL happy with this place. And you just keep taking money with NO CONSEQUENCE HORRIBLE! Your buy one get one free ...is a lure to get people to buy. My Pita bread didn't arrive.either that was a disappoint. You've guys screwed up so many orders and I've given so many chance but this is it. My Uber order arrived a bit earlier than expected The plates were warm at best. I ordered your shops bottle of hot sauce for 7.99. Instead ...you guys send me that little dot of hot sauce. Again HORRIBLE! I don't know what it is I don't care what it is I'll NEVER order from here again. You guys are horrible at following instructions. HORRIBLE!
google avatar

Amal A.

Yelp
The food here is so good!! Ordering delivery can sometimes be hit or miss, but it's usually a hit! On a few occasions they've given me too little chicken or barely any sauce, but that is not the case all the time. The food is good enough that I'll be a repeat customer always.

Yelp
What I Ordered: Chicken over Rice Platter * chicken was on the drier side Kofta Kebab over Rice Platter * chicken was well seasoned, has a meatball texture, and had a very slight spice Falafel over Rice Platter * falafel was dry and hard Combo over Rice Chicken and Lamb * lamb had a meatball texture * overall very delicious and filling 9/10

Yelp
I LOVE Shah's Halal food! I often order their meals on UberEats and it is consistently delicious. The chicken over rice plates are flavorful, well-portioned, and scrumptious. Their plates are very reasonably priced and there is often a BOGO promotion too. If and when you decide to place your order, then make sure you add the green sauce (it's a MUST). I promise you will not regret it! It's hard to find good halal food in Boston, so thank you for your wonderful service to the community. :)
google avatar

Kevin L.

Yelp
The food here is great. Not sure why the low reviews. It's quick and affordable @ $11 a platter. I like that they offer other toppings like grilled veggies, beans, onions and tomato cucumber salad. I grab a plate almost once a week.
google avatar

Yo H.

Yelp
I have ordered chicken over salad, i requested no tomatoes but it had tomatoes. No fork came with the food. The chicken is very spicy and that wasnot explained that it comes spicy as a default. I would not buy from them again. And do not recommend them to anyone.
google avatar

Caroline S.

Yelp
Delicious food hidden in plain sight. I think I've eaten here every week this past month lol. It delivers consistently tasty food, has quick service, and is the definition of bang for your buck. Let the food speak for itself and go to Shah's. gogogo.

Yelp
Shah's Halal brings the cheap convenience of NYC halal carts to Boston, just off the Hynes Convention Center T stop. $8.99 rice platters, $7.49 Gyros, and misc sandwiches and sides dot the menu. Both gyros and rice platters have the following protein selection (pick 1): - chicken - lamb - combo - kofta - 2pc fish - falafel and sauce selection (mix and matchable): - white sauce - hot sauce - BBQ sauce - green chili chutney - tahini I chose a chicken rice platter with hot sauce, totaling $9.55 after tax. For that, I got - cooked basmati rice (not too old and crusty, not too mushy either) - a side salad of cucumbers and tomatoes (fresh enough, imagine making a produce run from the nearest Star Market) - grilled chicken that hadn't gone dry by sitting around in a heat lamp - and hot sauce that could induce a bit of sweat but wasn't too spicy. Reasonably priced, reasonable food - that's all I need here.
google avatar

Fatboy S.

Yelp
The 3 1/2 star rating seems accurate to me. Stopped by late night and got a chicken and rice plate. Food was decent. Customer service was on point. Place could've definitely been cleaner. Good spot for a late night bite.
google avatar

Payal M.

Yelp
We ordered takeout from there Back Bay outlet late in the night at around 11 given it was open and highly rated on Uber eats. The delivery took over an hour as the food wasn't prepared. Ordered falafel on pita with fries and both were just average. Portion size is quite large and the place is quite affordable. Wouldn't vouch for taste or health.
google avatar

CHACHI M.

Yelp
I've only gotten delivery but there Burger is really good. Fries are good. I've gotten a few other things but can't remember the names. They were also very good. Delivery was pretty fast, I live in Roxbury.
google avatar

Brian T.

Yelp
Ok food and fast delivery for 1am but they did not include any utensils! Why would you do that...... The falafel had a flowery taste which is interesting but I prefer the original.
google avatar

Micah H.

Yelp
My husband and I loooovvveee this place. Definitely go order in person and don't do the delivery through Uber eats or Postmates. It comes out to the same price if you were to just go get it in store and you get more food and mix in options to choose from.
google avatar

Basil M.

Yelp
After a late flight and late check in on a Sunday, I'm tired and I'm hungry. Go to Uber eats and this was the first replace to pop up so I rolled the dice. The chicken and rice plate was excellent. The falafel wrap was ok - maybe didn't travel well. Falafel and pita were soggy. Also felt the falafel was a little too dense. Otherwise good. Would like to try again there.
google avatar

Alice O.

Yelp
Flavorless! Order falafel and it had no flavor at all! The hummus was awful! The white sauce tasted like glue. I threw everything away!
google avatar

Yelp
This place has a very good PhIlly Cheesesteak and Chicken Cheesesteak. Only reason they get a 2-Star is because every time I go there they intentionally tell me 20-30mins to discourage me into getting the sandwich . I realized it when I order for a cheeseburger and fries. I realize they don't like making the sandwiches. They rather tell you no , they can't make it or it's a 30mins wait, just to see how bad I'll wait for the sandwich. Mine you it's a very good sandwich. Small but very tasty. I'm just confused on why they got a item on the menu they refuse or rather not wait . I'm writing this review because I went there the other day . Service was so slow then they told me 30mins and I already waited 30mins to place my order. Maybe it was to many buy get one free plates the business been capitalizing on which employees get uneasy when I order a sandwich.

Dana A.

Yelp
I love the food here but they're so bad at the details. If someone asks for hot sauce on the side (an option when ordering) please put it on the side. So many times my friend has had to throw away his food because there was way too much hot sauce. If someone asks for utensils please give them. I couldn't eat my dinner I ordered last night because I didn't have anything to eat with them. Guess I'm having cold shahs for breakfast....
google avatar

Emily D.

Yelp
Chicken is spicy by default, which is not clear from the menu. They also don't offer water or plates. The gyro was unsealed and had way too much sauce on it, making it extremely hard to eat. The restaurant itself was dirty and I found myself rushing to eat (and making a huge mess in the process) just to get out of there. I would not come here again.
google avatar

Della S.

Yelp
I totally second the other reviews which like this place more than The Halal Guys or Chicken and Rice Guys. The prices here are awesome too! The portions are quite big for an affordable price. I ordered my food through Seamless. The platters (chicken or lamb) are $9.79 with the option of adding various toppings for free or hummus, black beans, extra rice, extra protein for an extra charge. I got the chicken on rice platter and added hummus for an extra dollar. The container was super heavy and packed with food. I wish they gave me more hummus though. The seasoning on the rice and chicken are perfect and their sauces are great. The green chili chutney is a must try. I didn't find the hot sauce to be too spicy. While other places continue to increase their prices, I'm glad to see that Shah's is a more affordable, tasty option that will fill you up.

Atif S.

Yelp
Very cheap and stingy when they serve you food. We ordered 2 platters and 1 wrap to go. He gave very little chicken and was rude when asked to put a little more. He was giving 1 white sauce with the order and gave no utensils. I will not be going back again.
google avatar

Chirag P.

Yelp
This place isnt too bad for what it was, but it wasnt that good either. The flavor relies too much on their white and "red" sauces, and very messy when ate it. I put red in quotes because beware, that sauce has MSG and food coloring in it if you look at the bottles they sell.

Zack E.

Yelp
The gyro sandwich tasted nothing like a gyro. The food wasn't bad, but neither was it good. I wouldn't go back, but then again I came in specifically looking for a good gyro.
google avatar

Rima K.

Yelp
I called today for a pick up order and the man who answered was so nice! If your reading I am the one who ordered two mixed combo platters with kofta kabob as the extra added protein, the spicy chicken wings and fries and a coke :) Aman just picked it up! They have THE BEST halal cart style food. It extremely similar to their New York food cart. I believe this is the same owner as the one near my undergrad school in queens. The sauces are GREAT! I love the white sauce and the spicy sauce has a nice kick to it. The lamb gyro and chicken are both flavorful and I just LOVE their rice. Compared to The Halal Guys and Chicken and Rice guys these guys are my favorite!!!!

Daniel C.

Yelp
Food is vile. I really wonder when the owners last tasted the food they're serving. BTW, one line of hot sauce doesn't mean you soak the entire thing in it. You can't taste anything but the hot sauce when that much is put on
google avatar

Rachel M.

Yelp
I randomly walked into this shop after googling falafel in my area and realized it was within walking distance. The falafel was freshly fried and had a good flavor. The chicken was good but could've used a little more spice. I think it would've been more bland without the white sauce and chimichurri but those made the dish excellent!
google avatar

Daisy Y.

Yelp
Boston has a dearth of halal carts but at least they have Shah's. Shah's fills the chicken-and-rice shaped hole in my heart after living in Philly. Just like the carts, but a tad more expensive (~9/plate). It's more of a chipotle style where you get to choose the toppings. The addition of chick peas to the salad is a nice touch. Excellent fries, and their red sauce is 6/10 spicy. Not as bad as halal guys but it is definitely possible to overdo it.

Brian M.

Yelp
AVOID. DO NOT EAT HERE. They are SCAMMERS! $27 for this. McDonalds sized nuggets!! Owner laughed at me when I asked for my money back. Portions are kid sizes at ADULT prices! Salad was barely an inch deep and had no greens, this is a SIDE SALAD. Meat was chewy bouncy and processed. $7 for 6 nuggets and they are literally smaller than McDonald's. $12 for that salad.
google avatar

Brian F.

Yelp
Stumbled in here while I was going for a walk during my lunch break. Had the lamb over rice plate. The lamb was juicy and tasty, not very fresh though. The rice was perfect and the herbs gave it a great flavor. Price was reasonable and the seating options weren't bad. I did feel pretty bloated after eating it. Would probably get again.

Ali K.

Yelp
Orders are always messed up - you pay for things you never receive. Sadly that happened to me with them multiple times now.

Ryan S.

Yelp
food is soooooooo good and cheap. could not recommend more! (also was super fast with uber eats which isn't the most common)
google avatar

Maggie V.

Yelp
Feels like a club inside but just wait til u get to the food! awesome takeout for low prices but i was high inside and a little scared.

Brian K.

Yelp
Easy and fast service with amazing flavor to the food and a lot to choose from. The chicken and rice plate was easily the best. Not really an amazing place to sit and eat though.
google avatar

Saeed A.

Yelp
Update 5/15/2020 When I asked for kabab, he said " those are frozen", can't give it you. I said, but you can cook them; he responded " sorry we don't have kebabs". It's terrible experience, how can someone change statement in seconds, just to save yourself from some work. Their food is good but service is bad
google avatar

Christine W.

Yelp
Very happy that there's a halal place in this neighborhood finally and what's better is their food is very tasty, neither salty nor greasy. The seating area is clean, the prices are very reasonable, and the staff is friendly. I've been here for lunch two days in a row. I can see myself coming again very soon.

Salma A.

Yelp
Terrible. I made a doordash order. They didn't include my drink first of all, then with my kebab order, it was not at all the same food that was in the picture. Instead of kebab with rice it was meat sliced into circles. Honestly I deserve a refund I spent 27$, this should've been a -1 star review but that doesn't exist DO YOU THINK IM RIXH I SPENT ALL MY SAVINFS KN THAT MEAL

Mark G.

Yelp
Ordered food from this place on Grubhub. Order was incorrect. I didn't get the hot sauce. The white sauce was not on the sude. And left out my bottled water. I am not able to recommend based on my experience.

Ganesh T.

Yelp
Probably the best chicken over rice places in Boston. The chicken is tandoor style and overall delicious. I also really like how they chose to use brown basmati rice. A great place for take out!
google avatar

Chris C.

Yelp
Quite good chicken and beef shawarma, along with kefta kebabs, falafel and fish (all halal, obviously) available in wraps, rice and salsa or just salad platters with black beans, onions and peppers and other topping and. 4 sauces from mild to hot. Good portions and prices. Pita is $1 extra as is additional protein. But I found the default amount of meat on the rice/salad platter just right (I did ask for less rice, rice being cheap, they los that up buy default.) Bottled soda, ice tea, water and vitamin water - no alcohol, obviously. A good, affordable addition to thr berklee- verse especially with the closing of mass av pita, the short-lived Zest and the late, lamented Cafe Jaffa.
google avatar

Hassib a.

Yelp
Just not good at all, specially when Muslims don't have a lot of choices for halal dining. I was there on business and searched out close by halal joint. Thought I give it a try and boy was I disappointed with the wait, overall state of the business and quality of the food.
google avatar

Kerwyn M.

Yelp
The Gyro was the best of appetizers to start off with. The chicken over rice was definitely delicious as well that it's my favorite. A friend of mines introduced me to this restaurant and I've been hooked ever since.
