"Soon to open at 1124 Boylston St., steps from Berklee College of Music, I learned that Shah's Halal will occupy the former Crazy Dough’s Pizza space and hopes to open in the next several weeks once city permitting and the buildout are finished. What began as a Queens food cart in 2005 and opened its first permanent restaurant in 2016 has expanded to ten permanent New York locations and multiple carts, and Boston (along with a forthcoming London restaurant after a London cart launched late last year) will be its first locations outside New York. The restaurants are certified halal by the Halal Food Council U.S.A., and the Boston menu will mirror the New York menu—gyros; rice dishes with chicken, falafel, kofta, fish, and lamb; hummus; and even Philly cheesesteaks. Owner Khalid Mashriqi said, “Halal food is booming everywhere,” noting that all of Shah’s recipes are family recipes and that the food is designed to cater to everyone, which he believes explains the interest in Boston." - Terrence Doyle
