Excellent Chinese restaurant. We came for Din Sum which if you've never tried, please do! When I lived in Asia I loved going out for it. Don't worry about what to order, the menu on the table has pictures which help you know.

I truly want to like this place but I don’t know I would go back. I was super excited to go because it has been a long time since I’ve gotten to dim sum. As someone who grew up with authentic Asian food, I was quite disappointed with the food. There’s so many restaurants with better food nearby. The food was very greasy, textures were a bit off. The best dish we had was spinach with garlic but it was over $14 for the dish and something we could cook at home with vegetables from 168 Market. The decorations especially the room with dragons on the ceiling was super cool. But that was it. Overall, I would not recommend.

Nice place to have some dim sum (all day) and other tasty dishes on the menu! We decided to not only having some dim sum items, but also ordered Congee (preserved eggs and porks), salted fish and chicken fried rice, half roasted duck, and spicy quails which all theses 4 ordered items were outstanding. As for the dim sum items: some are really Good (chicken feet,) while other are bland and tasted above average (beef balls with water creat wasn’t that good); Overall, we enjoyed our lunch here, and like the speedy customer service and food availability! If we are in town again, we will be back.

Google
My experience at Shangri-la was great. We were looking for a bit of an upgrade from the normal Chinese cuisine we normally eat. Didn't want to go full on high end but wanted an upgrade over the quick stop carry-out options we frequent. Shangri-la was just what the doctor ordered. We could tell right away the ingredients are much fresher than we received from our normal go-to restaurant. Food was delivered to our table exceptionally fast. We will definitely be visiting this restaurant again. I had the Almond Chicken, my favorite, and the Orange Chicken.

Stopped by for some Dim Sum. Food was great, some of the better dim sum I've had. The Rice Rolls were my favorite. Service was a little off but our server was nice enough. Would definitely come back whenever I'm in town!

Google
Their dim sum is not authentic enough. Portion is small but price is high. A lot of dim sums are getting cold when they arrive the table. It seems they cook them a while ago. Fried rice is the only good food. Business is very good though.

Writing this review because it’s stopped me from coming here and it’s bothered even though it happened 3 months ago. I came here with a friend who was visiting, I’ve been to this location many times before and wanted to give them a good dim sum experience. Our waiter sat us and we were chatting for 5-6 minutes catching up. During that time the waiter came by to ask if we were ready to order food or drinks. We got water but needed more time to look at the menu. We’re still chatting and looking over the menu, mind you he’s standing two tables across from us staring waiting. He comes and asks in a irritated tone and we start giving our order. One of things we ordered was crispy fried chicken, my friend told him and I interrupted bc my friend forgot to say that we wanted a half order of it. The waiter looks at me annoyed and asks me several times if that’s what I wanted and that’s what I meant…several times in a tone. I said yes just clarifying the half order of the chicken and he scoffs and walks away. He comes back slamming the food down on the table and we never say him again after that. As we ate a women was waiting on us for the rest of our meal. I have no idea why the waiter responded like that, from the moment we walked into the restaurant he seemed annoyed by our presence. I’ve never felt so uncomfortable before and I haven’t been backs since. I’d never seen him in the past so I don’t think he’s usually a waiter, maybe the owner or kitchen staff that was helping out that day. Now mind you it was like 3:00 on a Friday and there were only 2 other tables of people and us

Google
Best chicken feet in Metro Detroit area. Well marinated. Legit. Bomb-ass food. Only one issue. They autogratuitied the guy paying the bill due to our table's appearance. Little did they know that he is rich. He would have tipped more had they not done that. But the chicken feet were astounding.

Yelp
Incredibly kind and helpful staff. Service is speedy and food is delicious! Not many dim sum places in the area so we're happy to have found them.

Yelp
I was craving dim sum and plotted my return here. Let me explain. I despise the traffic circles in the area and consequently don't shop or dine in this neighborhood, but I made an exception for this meal. It has been years since I visited here; the last time was during COVID when I did takeout. I noted a few changes since my last in-restaurant dining experience: The restaurant was less busy and less noisy than before. However, I was here after the lunchtime rush. The carts filled with food are gone. Instead, you order from a menu, similar to what you would do at a sushi restaurant. The picture menu is a big help. The portion sizes are sadly smaller but the prices are sadly higher. I miss the carts, quite frankly. I like to be able to order food as soon as I'm seated, and I think this is unique to dim sum. However, I don't appreciate placing my order, waiting a long time, and seeing the table that got seated after mine get their dim sum and special order items before I get my food. I ordered the usual: Siu mai: steamed dumplings with pork, shrimp, and mushrooms. Meatballs on watercress: Steamed meatballs on a small bed of watercress--these were smaller than before but tasty. Barbecue pork pastries: Chinese barbecue pork in a flaky pastry continues to be a favorite. I like both the sweet pork filling and the super flaky pastry. I did note that there was more pastry to the pork than before. Beef rice rolls: Steamed, thin "crepe" made of rice and filled with beef are topped with sweet soy sauce. This used to be my absolute favorite dish. I would order one dish for myself, no sharing allowed. However, the version today was mostly rice crepe with a small amount of beef. This is an ongoing theme of this visit and a reason not to return. Sesame balls: A sweet ben paste mixture is sealed in a glutinous ball and rolled in sesame. I enjoyed it a lot. Black bean spare ribs: My sister's favorite, these small pieces of pork ribs are steamed with fermented black beans. Note that you should expect bone shards. Spring rolls: Similar to the appetizers at Asian restaurants, the spring rolls with water chestnuts, carrots, mushrooms, cabbage (?), and celery were fine. Har gow: Steamed shrimp dumplings are a mainstay of our family's dim sums. The version here is fine; my parents make this a lot so I tend to be picky. Service was fine. The staffers cleared the small plates when they emptied, which was great.

Yelp
Lots of parking and nice interior but most dishes that were small and all below average. Dessert options were yummy though. + Meatball: liked that it was filled with vegetables but didn't come with the usual black vinegar sauce. (6/10) + Pork XLB: no juice, thick skin, and meat filling was too dense (4/10) + Runny egg yolk bun: perfect runny texture, fluffy bun (7.5/10)

Yelp
Food is good but pricey. Each dim sum item is $5-6 each. The salt and pepper squid is $23! No carts. Staff is friendly.

Douglas H.

Yelp
Wonderful dim sum and Chinese food outside of Detroit. Especially loved the pepper steak and fried egg noodle with beef. Great service! Everything came out so fast. Look forward to coming back!

Irene C.

Yelp
What a wonderful discovery for dim sum. This is really the place to go if you need a fix for dim sum. We came here for dinner time so I will definitely check it out again on a weekend brunch hour. The dim sum menu is available all day. We ordered the usual and wasn't disappointed. Not as good as east coast Chinatown but close enough for suburban Michigan. Good enough variety and has all the obligatory dim sum items. We also ordered noodles and string beans from the menu and weren't disappointed. The flavor is right. We ordered a lot and didn't get judgement that we ordered too much for 2. Service is prompt and polite. Seating choice was good. Has booths. Would definitely come back!!

Ranyia T.

Yelp
Went here for Dim Sum. So good! I love the ceiling and glass walls in this place. The staff is very friendly and fast. We had the Chinese broccoli, taro, sesame balls, bbq pork, shrimp balls, etc. everything was very tasty and looked amazing. All of our dishes came out fast and together. I recommend the sesame balls, stuffed peppers and eggplant, shrimp balls and Chinese broccoli and the baked cream bun.

Judy N.

Yelp
Just to preface this, I am not a fan of Chinese food but my family wanted to go to Dim Sum and this place seems to be the place to go! There were several people already lined up before it opened and the tables filled up fast (with mostly Asian families). There are pictures of the dim sum on the table but the menu card actually has more items so look carefully! We enjoyed the Shu Mai & Stuffed Eggplant the most & although the presentation of the quail is not ideal (comes whole without the head...) everyone enjoyed the flavor of it. Dim Sum is fun because you get to enjoy a variety of items. I would go again because my family enjoyed it a lot.

Billy L.

Yelp
We came here because my sister-in-law from out of town was looking for the best almond boneless chicken around and we were hoping this would be it. While the chicken itself was very good, the gravy that goes on top of it was kind of watery. And tasteless. I got a scallop with snap peas dinner and there were hardly any scallops in it for $25. I was a bit disappointed. My sister got a fried noodle seafood meal, which I never tried but again it didn't seem like it had much in the way of the sea food - it had lots of noodles!! We also got the sizzling rice soup and that was actually very tasty. We all got eggrolls that were very tasty.

Yelp
Finally found legit Chinese food in MICHIGAN. Struggle has been real, but glad I can have some good dim sum and more. This restaurant is not fancy. The service is nothing to write home about, but everyone is nice. We over ordered, but that's pretty standard for me when I get dim sum. Leftovers are always great!

Alyssa S.

Yelp
My go to place for Dim Sum in Michigan. There is a large selection and the service is fast. It is always busy and packed so it can attest how good it is.

Mike R.

Yelp
Food is good, menu is pretty extensive, but for the price paid the value just isn't there, and then for pickup I'm asked to leave a tip. I think we ended up paying $70 for three average sized dinners. Should be closer to $45. The employees are great, food is good, price is too much.

Sari G.

Yelp
Beautiful and authentic Chinese food served at Shangri La. I noticed a huge price increase as I've been coming here for many years. The combo portions also got smaller. I miss the cool fish tanks they have. Still a great place.

Lisa R.

Yelp
We enjoyed our lunch here on Friday. Eric R. always wants dim sum since it is not available where we live, and this was a very short drive from our friend's house in the area where we stayed. We came at lunchtime and were immediately seated. Water and tea showed up right away. We took a look at the menu and filled out the order sheet. Five of the six items we ordered showed up fairly quickly, and the dessert item came after. It was very efficient and impressive! Eric R. ordered soup dumplings and steamed BBQ pork buns for himself. He liked the buns but not the soup dumplings, which were cold and did not come with ginger or black vinegar, or a spoon for that matter. I ordered garlic chive pancake which I shared with him. They were very hot and tasty! I also got the shrimp stuffed eggplant which was served with green onions in a savory sauce. I also ordered the shrimp kau (shrimp dumplings) which were also very tasty and served at four per order so we each had 2. We asked for chili oil which we got immediately to enjoy with our dumplings. Soy sauce was already on the table. My dessert were the steamed egg yolk buns. They were super hot and delicious, though very sweet. My dad would have loved these! We also thought the prices were really good here.

Yelp
A hidden gem located in the Orchard Mall. A bit pricey but worth every penny. Dim Sum all day. Curbside pickup available. Cantonese +. Dinner combos are $17 and include egg roll and fried rice. Specialize in live seafood. Owner born in Thailand of Chinese parentage. Our soft shell crab spicy appetizer $9 arrived lukewarm and was returned to the kitchen. It was ok but nothing more. The hot and sour soup was average and not worth the $4. The Grouper with black bean sauce $23 was perfectly cooked and flakey and tender. Hunan beef $21, the meat was soft and tender and vegetables fresh and cooked Al dente. Szechaun chicken $19 was mildly spiced yet delicious. Chicken was very tender and the vegetables were fresh, all sauces were light and flavorful and savory. Good venue when you want a special meal and are willing to pay for it. $$$ Recommended..

Yelp
Trust TikTok?......Maybe not...... The restaurant was viewed as "Best Chinese Restaurant in the area" on TikTok The restaurant is located within a strip mall/mall very clean mall as I can see... you must walk through the restaurant doors it's not open to the mall. Once inside the overall restaurant look clean and had matching decor nothing mixed like some Chinese Restaurants. The staff were friendly and greeted promptly and taken to our booth and requested if we wanted Tea. The tea was nice, no waters we had to request them. I ordered the Pepper Steak White Rice Combo comes with Soup and Egg-roll. The soup was delicious, the egg-roll was ok lots of veggies no meat. The Pepper Steak was good but would have enjoyed it more if had a bit more flavor the sauce was good and the veggies were also nice. As always never enough meat.... Overall May 5/6 pieces of thinly sliced beef My GF said her dish was good but wouldn't order again. They also came around with a cart to see if we wanted any dim sum which we passed on. TikTok best?.... No.... A good place in the area sure I'd go back and check out another dish

Mina M.

Yelp
I got to-go generals chicken combo, hot and sour soup and garlic chive pancakes! My order was ready promptly and tasted great. Hot and sour soup had great flavor and perfect amount of spice. Big pieces of tofu, which I love. The garlic chive pancakes had good flavor but I wish they were a bit crispier (may be because it was to-go). Chicken entre came with fried rice and an egg roll--all of which was delicious.

Yelp
Shangri-La is our family's favorite. Background - my mom's side is Chinese, and it's hard for us to find good Chinese food in the area without compromising quality. We used to be Peking House regulars for YEARS until they sadly closed. Shangri-La gets the job done and satisfies those cravings. I understand people have different expectations when it comes to Chinese food, but you should give this a try, especially for Dim Sum. They have a great Dim Sum selection, and it is served all week long - not just on weekends! The Baked BBQ Buns (Bao) are my FAVORITE, and it reminds me of the ones my grandma would make. We tend to stick to the favorites: General Tso's, Pan Fried Egg Noodles, Sweet and Sour Pork. They have a dish which I believe is called Beef with Special Sauce, and it's fantastic. It's almost like a bbq sauce with tender beef topped with onions. A new regular for us! It gets really busy on the weekends so pack your patience and enjoy!

Lealie G.

Yelp
Great authentic Dim Sum restaurant they get busy fast especially on the weekends. If you have a large party make sure you make a reservation. We love the variety of dishes however since COVID they do not bring the dim sum carts around so you have to do all your ordering at one time so it can be hard to figure out how many items you should get.

Carol A.

Yelp
I love the variety of food that Shangri-La has on their international menu. However, it's just a remarkable the difference when you eat there vs. takeout. you don't get nearly as much food with carry out. You don't get a complementary soup and I ordeted egg foo young this last time Rice was meh. And gravy was not savory. Just kind of meh. I'll order the beef and broccoli next time. I k ow I love that and all the dim sum with plum wine!

Remy G.

Yelp
The best foods at Shangri-la: Crispy Taro Kor, Roast Pork Pastry, Baked Cream Bun, Shrimp in Rice Roll, Shrimp Kao, Pan-Fried Turnip Cake, Shiu Mai, Baked BBQ Pork Bun, and Garlic Squid. Not pictured were the steam BBQ buns and crispy squid, which are also delicious! This is still my favorite place of all in metro Detroit to get dim sum. Whether a small group or a big one, there is something for everyone at this marvelous delight.

Sebastian M.

Yelp
We used to love this place. We went today and the service was horrible, we waited a while for drinks and we had 3 servers come by and ask us what we want to drink. No communication amongst staff. Then they also had missing dishes that were still on the menu which we used to get but now they said no longer exist. AND THE BIGGEST PART, I usually tip a decent amount but this time because of service I gave a much lower tip than usual. They came back to my table after we paid and said that because of COVID they now have a mandatory 15% tipping (there was only 3 of us dining in)... They just lost a customer because they don't want to pay their waiters themselves...

William W.

Yelp
Was craving for Dim Sim & it's just ok, not super impressed probably bcoz I had better somewhere else outside MI. I'll still go back but will try something else, non-Dim Sum menu.

Leang E.

Yelp
It seems like there are limited dim sum options in the area. Apparently I may have been here 20 years ago and it's still here so that is saying something, what that is I am not exactly sure. We came for lunch to celebrate my sister's birthday and ordered several items. We got shrimp hargow, shrimp roll, pan fried chive pancakes, dim sum noodles, deep fried quail, deep fried seafood combination, beef tripe, durian custard cake, deep fried shrimp balls, stuffed eggplant, steamed pork dumpling, and other dumplings. All was decent and hard to compare coming from Chicago and having been to Hong Kong before where those places were excellent. They never came out with my chicken feet so we just cancelled and removed from our order. I think they were not prepared for how busy it was this Friday as they are used to that for the weekend Saturday and Sunday dates usually being the case.

Benjamin K.

Yelp
First, I was raised in a Chinese restaurant in Ann Arbor, so I know my stuff. Second, this place is mediocre at best. The dim sum leaves much to be desired. The dim sum menu is small, and so are the portions compared to price. The regular menu is wayyyy overpriced. I know inflation is high, but $22 for a dinner combination of sweet and sour chicken is ridiculous. The service was fine, and our server had the usual bland Chinese personality. The food was bland as was the service.

Meng H.

Yelp
Shan·gri-la shaŋ-gri-lä : a remote beautiful imaginary place where life approaches perfection : utopia. : a remote usually idyllic hideaway Nice name. From the decor, it's a Chinese restaurant. They serve some really odd things. They have your traditional Chinese dishes and some extra. i.e. Korean bbq. The positive,I had the Szechuan Chicken and Beef. Both were decent. Other items were good too. The negative, oddly, no pre meal. Like egg drop soup which are served for free if you order a meal. This is customary. Not here. And the high price. Also, small portions. You expect a lot of portions at a Chinese restaurant, but not here. Recommend

Kong L.

Yelp
Fantastic dim sum with lots of options! Customer service is also top notch for a restaurant at this caliber. The food came out instantly and started to flow in as we ate; especially the special dishes like the roast duck and lobster. I was quite impressed! This place is quality for sure!

Irina G.

Yelp
Overall, I love that this place Is open late and offers a great variety from dim sum to main Chinese entries. It gets busy at times and service could be hit or miss. Though, lately I've seen improvements. I wish more places in the area would operate late. Overall, definitely recommend, especially if you're looking for a late night meal.

Ebenezer's Anni L.

Yelp
It is very hard to find a good dim sum place. Believe me, I have tried in a couple of cities. Maybe I am a little picky, but EBS taught me well. I haven't had any dim sum since the pandemic started and had been here a few years ago with a Chinese Meetup group. Decided to give them another try. With the pandemic, you don't have dim sum on a cart, but can order off the menu. The menu is on the table with pictures in both English and Chinese. It is under plastic cover on the table. You mark what you want on a sheet with the prices. Everything is cooked to order by a chef that is either from Hong Kong or trained there. That shows in the quality. They do have more than dim sum if you are only use to what Americans call Chinese food. Everything I ordered was what I expected. The Chive dumplings is different than China Palace, but not bad. It was just as good warmed up the next day. I get the shrimp dishes like shrimp har how, shrimp rice rolls, and any other shrimp listed. The service was good and the dinning room set up for safety. Soy sauce in packets not the normal small bottles. I look forward to coming back and for my diet, it is too close for home. Prices more than reasonable.

Annie L.

Yelp
We ordered some classic dim sum dishes and the experience was pleasant. They have around 40 dim sum options, but it is not the rolling carts style Dimsum if that is what you are looking for. The food came very fast. The service was okay. The Chinese broccoli we order is around $15, which seems very overpriced for a vege dish. The rest of the dimsum is $4.95 each. The taste is pretty descent according to my Cantonese friend. There isn't anything surprising with the taste.

Dave W.

Yelp
I was first introduced to the dim sum experience here by my daughter and the family of one of her high school friends several years ago. The controlled chaos of servers with carts constantly bringing interesting dishes to your table is a bit overwhelming at first, but once you start to understand the flow, it's actually a lot of fun...and the food is great too! In a pandemic world, you can't enjoy that experience, but you can still enjoy the great food, so we ordered takeout to help support this business to demonstrate our appreciation. Here's what we ordered: Shiu Mai Baked BBQ Pork Buns Steamed BBQ Pork Buns Steamed Small Pork Dumplings Pan Fried Dumplings Spring Rolls Crab Rangoon Shrimp Kau If you ask me to identify which item is which in the picture I posted I will fail miserably, but i can assure you that it was all delicious! This may also seem like a long list of items for three people, but the portions are all small, so you can try a lot of different things, which is part of the fun. The price is also very reasonable for the quality and amount of food provided. The carry out experience was also well done. We ordered online from their easy to use website and when I arrived for pickup I was impressed by the table they had set up with numbered "lanes" for each customer's order. While we look forward to the day when we can return to the dim sum experience in person, the carry out approach was a great reminder of how enjoyable this place is.

Alex G.

Yelp
I found the dim sum here to be top notch, and the staff is very friendly. I've been twice already and I am sure this will continue to be on the top 10 favorite local spots for me.

Jeff M.

Yelp
I am soooo happy! I grew up in china town Los Angeles and have been living in Nashville with almost no Asian food for years. Shangri-la has taken me back home with authentic flavors and amazing service. If you love domain this is your spot. If you have never tried it this is where to begin because you will fall in love with the flavors right away. Food came out within moments of ordering and all was delicious.

Lorraine P.

Yelp
We used to come here for dim sum often on Sundays. Lately, we have not enjoyed our visits as much as in the past. In the past, we would order from the carts that would come by. Now, there are no carts and you must order off the menu. For those of us who are not Asian, a visual is very important in trying new items. The server, who is pleasant enough, seems more concerned that they are "very busy" and wants us to order only "one time" rather than again and again. The romance of this place has faded for us. Today, we ordered several dumpling choices and a noodle dish. They were fine but the calamari, which was fried, was nearly inedible (cooked too long, was too crispy and far too dry). We should have actually sent it back, but we did not. Further, they added the tip to our bill (there were only four of us, not 6 or 8 as is customary at other restaurants). I found this to be disappointing. We always tip at least 20% and often more. I really feel bad rating this one time favorite dining spot for our group so low as we have such fond memories of the traditional way of serving dim sum with the carts, but I just cannot, in good conscience, rate them any higher. If this had been the first time we were disappointed, that would have been one thing. But it has happened too often. It's really the ambience we miss most. We'll still come back but not as often. It's just not the same welcoming place we enjoyed so much in years past.

Lingxuan K.

Yelp
Not authentic at all, same quality as Asian market frozen dishes. Worst service I've ever had, serve wrong dishes with no apologies, then the waiter touched the food and directly served it to another table!! Can't imagine what happened to your food before they take it to your table!! My friend felt not good and vomited 3 times after eating here.

Mary L.

Yelp
My lunch, crispy lemon chicken, was dry. The lemon sauce was thick and too sweet. It just didn't taste fresh.

Aaron S.

Yelp
Shangri-La, one of the best authentic Chinese restaurants in michigan. The owner is from Thailand her husband was Chinese. They really put effort and love in to all the dishes. The dim sum is a must have. I could eat every day

Yelp
Picked up two lunch specials. One shrimp with lobster sauce and the other hunan chicken. The shrimp with lobster sauce was very runny. More sauce then shrimp. Hunan chicken was ok. Lots of broccoli which isn't my favorite so may have been why I feel this way. Our egg rolls were very brown and overcooked. Fried rice was only rice and had no vegetables. For $33.00 I would have expected better.

Yelp
This restaurant is inside of a mall. The bathrooms are by the front door. Dim sum cart is mostly pork, beef, pig feet, soup dim sum, more pork, pork and shrimp. I decided to try one shrimp, mostly for my husband, it comes with the rice paper. Our waitress was somewhat quiet, spoke to me in a mix of Chinese and English, I told her I don't speak. She seemed unhappy with this news. She wasn't happy about our mention of the shell or hard stuff on the scallops. She was slow to check on us and to come by so we could ask for our bill later. She was only quick to bring our food when it was ready at least. The rice balls were hot and absolutely, chewy and sweet from the the red beans. I could eat an entire meal of the sesame balls. The shrimp dim sum was tasty, though the shrimp fell out of the dumpling casing. We ordered the sautéed scallops with spicy chili, extra spicy and the stir fried large pea pod leads with the minced garlic. They are generous with their scallops, they are big and there were about 11 of them. The scallops are gritty as there were pieces of the shells on some of the pieces however. My husband keeps spitting out little pieces of the shell out of his mouth from the one bite. We were afraid to tell them there were pieces of shells in the scallops. My husband refused to eat anymore and I was afraid to bite into a piece that might crack my tooth. The waitress told me there's no shells, scallops come out of shells. I have seen them before, they have a definite shell that they come from. They explained it's the side muscles of the scallops. Either way I don't think it's normal to eat the side muscles at all. It's the adductor muscle of the scallops that's edible. I got more sesame balls and one more to go. The stir fried pea pod leaves are good at least, even better with the chili. I was lucky saved by the sesame balls. Left with 2 orders of sesame balls. The waitress commented that I really like them, I said I do. I could live on their sesame balls.

Yelp
We went there recently and the dim sum is great. Is probably one of the best places in the Detroit Metro area.

Yelp
Okay. Now I've been there twice for dim sum. Once towards the end of service. Once at the beginning. It makes me wonder when on Saturday does Shangri-La really pick up? Because when we arrived after 1pm, the front was jammed, and we were tucked away in the back room. Carts were winding down, and that was okay, especially since the staff was more than happy to take orders for items we wanted. The kitchen even made something freshly for us. That was pretty sweet. But then when we arrived before noon on a different Saturday, the place wasn't quite deserted, but we were able to walk right in. Carts were circulating around and around without any takers, and some items had been sitting around a little too long. Knowing how to time dim sum visits is a very important skill. The best time to arrive is just before peak hours. That way you get convenient seating, and the best food, provided you slow roll your ordering. But that's another story. The highlight of my most recent trip was the silky tofu pudding! It's so much better than the spot closer to home in Ypsi. What makes it different are large, tender curds that are as light as clouds. It's tempting to just bite the bullet and make the drive. Especially because the BBQ pork filling in the steamed and baked buns is so succulent and tender too. That said, I prefer the steamed over the baked at Shangri-La based on the tenderness of the dough and the ratio of filling. But not everything is sunshine and roses. The har gow I had were tragic. They had been stuck on the steam cart for far too long and the wrappers had turned to mush. My son's zhaliang was also underwhelming on several fronts. From the gritty rice noodle, to the exceedingly hard fried cruller, to an unusual take on the sweetened soy sauce. When this dish is good, the kiddo can wolf down two plates of the stuff. However, in this case, I had to help him finish the order. Which, ultimately brings me to the same dim sum conclusion as usual. Almost every dim sum parlor has dishes they do well, and dishes that should be avoided. The secret to success is learning which are which. - Five star tofu pudding! - Four star steamed pork buns and sticky rice. - Three star baked pork buns and zhaliang. - Two star har gow. Now I have to return with my shrimp loving daughter to try a bunch of different items. Or maybe, I can schedule an outing with a contingent of other Yelpers and we can eat ourselves silly. That would be rad.

Yelp
I had two recent and horrible experiences here within the past 3 months. The first was a carry out order and the second was a dine in experience. Now I have been eating Dim sum my whole life and it's one of my favorite foods. I trade off from going to Golden harvest in Warren or here. On the carry out day I ordered dim sum online (around 1:30) to be picked up at 4:15. When I arrived around 4 my food was already sitting on the table waiting for me, normally I would be happy but I just knew it probably have been sitting since I placed the order. How do I know? When I pick it up and open the bag to check the food EVERYTHING was cold. Not cold from sitting for a few minutes, cold from sitting for hours. My "fried" dim sum items were re-fried from older dim sum. Definitely not suitable since I wanted it fresh and nothing was. I also noted in the comments that I would like napkins, chopsticks, plum sauce and chili oil. I only received one chopstick for an order that was over $130 worth of dim sum and none of the sauce I asked for. I asked again and the lady had an attitude yelling at me telling me she put it in the bag, I told her she did not as I was taking every food item out to show her that she didn't. She walked away saying something in Chinese and no I could not understand her, but I knew she was talking about me. Now I live far, 45 minutes to drive there for cold refried food items and a bad attitude after spending over $130 isn't exactly my idea of where I'm spending my money. The dine in incident goes as follows. I wanted ginger scallion lobster so I called the restaurant to confirm that they had it before I took the 45 min drive there for dinner. (Golden harvest was out of lobster so I called here). My fiance get there and we sit down. The waitress brings over menu and water and I proceeded to ask if they had lobster which she immediately said no. Now what's funny is I just called before walking out the house to prevent this from happening. Now I'm extremely upset because it was just a waste of my time and gas going there, but this wasn't even the best part of the experience. When the waitress told us they had no lobster I told my fiance we were going to go somewhere else to have dinner and for him to move out of the booth; this is where it gets interesting. The waitress proceeded to push my fiance on his shoulder and told him to sit down. I told her please do not touch him and that we were going to go somewhere else because they did not have what I wanted after I called. She still insisted we sit and eat, and I told my fiance to get up and go, she again pushed him on the shoulder to tell him to sit down. Now, this was the second time she did that after I told her not to do that the first time. My poor fiance did not know what to do as he got flustered from me telling him to get up and go and her pushing his shoulder back down making him sit not once but twice!!! Now the bad attitude is one thing but her continuing to put her hands on him is a huge no! No way I'm spending $200 on food when they do not have what I want. Horrible customer service with tiny portions compared to Golden harvest. I will not be back here and I work around the corner. Their customers are also the same customers that I service (I work a half mile away) and I will definitely tell everyone of my experiences here. I will never spend my money here again, rude customer service with even worse attitudes! Do yourself a favor and go somewhere worth eating at that have better customer service.

Yelp
One of my fave places to go and get authentic Asian cuisine. The Dim Sum is delicious.

Yelp
Happy to see a dim sum place with carts in Michigan! I came to visit family up here and we decided to get some brunch. We made reservations since it can get super busy on the weekends, especially Sundays. First off the bat, we were greeted by staff with a warm welcome. We sat down and the carts start swarming -- in less than a minute our table was covered with small plates! Very pleased with the service as the restaurant was pretty packed. We ordered our typical dim sum favorites: Crystal shrimp ball, chicken feet, shrimp cheong fun, shumai, fried dumpling, radish cake, taro pastry, fried shrimp roll, sticky rice. My favorite dim sum dish is the shrimp cheong fun but their sauce wasn't right, too similar to soy sauce. It should be lighter and sweeter. I'd say the food was decent but on the greasier side. Definitely order some tea to help with that. I'd recommend ordering my family's favorite -- combination of chrysanthemum (菊花 -- júhuā) and Pu'er tea. (普洱 -- pu-erh). Pu'er tea is a fermented black tea which has cleansing benefits and helps with digestion. Overall, I was fairly satisfied with the food given that there isn't much of a Chinese community in Michigan. Will happily come back here when I'm in town!

Yelp
Believe it or not, after many many decades on this planet, having been to seven continents so far, and visited over 60 countries, I have not had Dim Sum! Of course I know what it is and basically how it works. But our normal meal at a Chinese restaurant consists of an appetizer (usually Potstickers) and/or Soup (Sizzling Rice) and two entrees (or one to split)! At its core, Dim Sum is Chinese Tapas or equivalent to sitting at a Sushi Bar, ordering by the piece, and eating until you just can't eat any more; if you have self control, you would stop before you reach that point! The other parts of this system are the server and the score keeper. While a good Sushi Chef can make and serve Sushi while mentally keeping each person's tab in their head, here they place a scorecard on your table and add to it as plates and dishes are selected from the carts circulating around the room...think buffet with delivery or meals on wheels and you get the idea. Our friends invited us to join them here for Dim Sum and, since they were very experienced with Dim Sum, we could avoid making rookie mistakes so we quickly agreed. All I can say after this experience is that everything we tried was delicious and the service was steady and friendly. I particularly liked the many varieties of Dumplings, Stuffed Buns (the food), and the thin Noodles that reminded me of Singapore Noodles or Yakisoba. We also liked the mini Egg Custards that were tasty but not overly sweet! While the cost can add up if you show up really hungry, your destiny is really under your control. If you are out for an occasional spurge to celebrate something (promotion, graduation, engagement, divorce) just ignore all the markings on your scorecard. If you are on a budget you might have a light snack beforehand. But either way, you will not be disappointed in the quality and variety of the dishes presented or the service. Oh, and a special mention for serving great quality tea as this is often a weak point for even some top restaurants.

Yelp
As a child we used to cross the boarder to Canada to have good dim sum. I was craving a fun dim sum experience and I finally made it over here for lunch. It was tasty and a lot of fun. Even though I grew up eating this food, I am not an expert at the names of each item. But I liked how they only had a couple of carts, that way, you could see the entire selection and decide what you wanted instead of waiting for each cart to come around, especially since I was pretty hungry. I also love bite size food that is sharable. It is enjoyable to get a lot of little items for the table. The sticky rice was very good. It seemed to have sausage and other types of meat inside. The egg tart was silky, smooth, and creamy, very good. I loved the sesame balls, they seemed to have a peanuty center, not sure if it was peanut and red bean, but I could eat them all day. The baby octopus was in a delicious curry sauce. The pork buns were nice, you can never go wrong with those. The shumai and other dumplings were delicious, including the one with shrimp and corn. This is definitely not for the picky eater, but there were tons of good choices. I am eager to come back and sample the cart with the buns, I got carried away with the first cart with the dumplings. This is not a cheap experience. The plates can add up really fast, but a must do for people who love this cuisine. If you are craving dim sum, make sure you look at the hours they are serving it so you are not disappointed, it is only for lunch and late night snack.

Yelp
My wife and I used to love this place before the pandemic. Since then the food has gone down hill, the service has always been terrible, and prices have gone way up. We arrived when they opened, were seated with everybody else and waited 25 minutes before a server came to take our order. We will not be going back, ever.

Yelp
Awesome mid day experience. Food was lightning fast, yet still fresh tasting. Service was on point. Parking was easy. Establishment was clean and well decorated. Overall an A+ experience.
