The 17 Best Restaurants In Carmel - Carmel - The Infatuation

"Solid Happy Hours are about as rare as being able to afford a home these days. That makes Shearwater Tavern, a California pub located within the Carmel Mission Inn, such a find. Post up on the patio, ideally near a fire pit, and order as many $5-$9 small plates as your heart desires (we like the toasted baguette with truffle fromage blanc and the chicharrones with chipotle aioli). This is a great place to people-watch, since the crowd ranges from athleisure-clad locals stopping by for an after-hike bite to gussied-up hotel guests grabbing a drink. While dinner is nothing special, breakfast and brunch shine. We’ll never say no to starting a morning with their huevos rancheros with fried shishito peppers, or avocado toast with hot smoked salmon." - allison green, clara hogan

Where to Eat and Drink Around Monterey and Carmel

"Chef Fabian Di Paolo took over as executive chef at this downtown Carmel restaurant after a stint in Miami, bringing dinner, breakfast, and happy hour menus with him. Begin your meal with yucca fries and coconut salsa, followed by a hardy bone-in pork Milanese with pecorino-parsley crumbs, and conclude on a sweet note with macerated berries over a ricotta cheesecake." - Lauren Saria, Paolo Bicchieri, Dianne de Guzman

Where to Eat Calamari in Monterey County | Eater

"Located inside the Carmel Mission Inn, Shearwater Tavern serves an elevated yet approachable menu of perennial favorites like spinach-artichoke dip, Parmesan truffle tater tots, and short rib tagliatelle. The restaurant’s take on crispy calamari is similarly classic: served fritto misto-style with lemon and chipotle aioli." - Annalise Mantz

We came for Tuesday dog night from 6 to 8. There were dogs all around. The live music was a two-person band. We each ordered their hamburger which was delicious. The fries were spectacular, extremely crispy. Good work chef! There's a pop-up bar but it's limited in the selections. Good place to see your dog friends and make new ones.

When you eat at the restaurant at your hotel you often don’t expect to be wowed, but Shearwater was the exception to that rule! The food was absolutely delicious!! Overnight oats may not sound exciting but they were a 12/10! My kids split the French toast and my husband enjoyed his generously portioned smoked salmon plate. Our server was very friendly and attentive. She and the manager also made our meal extra special by bringing out not one but two birthday desserts for our son who was celebrating a birthday! To top it off, our server was kind enough to bring the birthday boy and his little brother hot wheel cars. This was actually the best meal and restaurant we visited while in Carmel for 2 nights. The inside of the restaurant was nicely decorated too, very nice ambiance! Oh and the coconut lattes were also great!! Two big thumbs up from this family of 4.

Our experience here was very impressive. My husband booked this weekend get away for both my birthday AND our anniversary. The hotel was comfortable, with nice rooms and a great pool, but our experience at the restaurant was hard to ignore. The night we arrived we went to the happy hour, which had an impressive menu. The kind bartender had excellent recommendations and made a perfect martini for my husband. It wasn't just us, everyone at the bar barely needed anything, and were made to feel welcome as they sat down. Returning guests were greeted warmly by staff and welcomed. That's the kind of experience you remember. We had drinks that night (which were wonderful). We moved from the couch to the fireplace. The manager swooped in to help us move things which was very kind so we could keep the night going. The food was great! Not just "bar food" but savory and seasoned bites from apps to the menu. The great service continued through the weekend all the way to our check out. You'll have many places to choose from in Carmel by the Sea, but you should take a moment to stop by and have a drink (or a bite) at Shearwater Tavern.

Google
Service was a little slow, think they are short staffed but the food made up for it, they were delicious! We were a table of 8 and we were all happy with our food despite the little service delay. Perfect if you are staying at the hotel. Plenty of parking and has a cozy vibe.

I really just go when there's live music and I love that they're doing some on a regular basis. I haven't eaten there yet but my friends do and they seem to enjoy it. They are certainly making a real effort to attract locals which I appreciate and show up for. The pool looks great, I haven't seen the rooms but they seem like a busy place and the lobby is beautiful.

We hadn’t visited the Carmel Mission Inn for several years and knew that it had been refreshed since our last visit. We decided to have dinner at Shearwater Tavern, tucked inside the Carmel Mission Inn and had an absolutely wonderful experience. Our outstanding dining experience began with a delicious Caesar Salad paired with their wonderful signature Parker House Rolls—warm, house-baked, and served with local honey butter and a bit of sea salt. These starters set the tone perfectly for the main event: a flawlessly grilled bavette (flank steak), a favorite of ours, topped with a rich green peppercorn sauce and accompanied by crispy shoestring frites. Our steak arrived cooked precisely to our medium-rare preference and request, showcasing the kitchen's attention to detail. The staff was exemplary—friendly, knowledgeable, and professional. Our waiter, Leonel, brought warmth and expertise to the table, clearly drawing from his years of experience. John, a talented Manager on site this evening, was equally attentive and informative, making us feel right at home. The ambiance at Shearwater Tavern is another highlight. The two dining spaces are both casual and tastefully designed, and the lobby’s modern refresh, cozy outdoor firepits, large fun painted cow, and even the attractive restroom wallpaper add to the inviting vibe. With ample parking, visiting or dining there is a breeze. They also have an attractive bar and a happy hour. If you stay here, you will be right across the street from the fabulous Crossroads Shopping Center and near The Barnyard Shopping Center. This is a place we plan to revisit soon, and their intriguing menu offers even more delightful dishes waiting to be discovered!. Shearwater Tavern at Carmel Mission Inn is a must-visit—highly recommended! In December 2024, we recently returned to Shearwater Tavern for dinner and had another fantastic experience. The staff, including the wonderfully kind and helpful Angel, made us feel so welcome. We couldn’t resist ordering the flank steak and frites with peppercorns again—it was just as amazing as we remembered. This time, we also tried the delicious sea bass dish, flavorful meatballs, and warm dinner rolls. Everything was absolutely satisfying and delicious. The comfortable ambiance, great service, and ample parking made for a perfect evening. We’re already looking forward to our next visit!

Google
The rolls and octopus confit to start off with were both flavorful and delicious. The cocktails we ordered were great too. The rest of the meals were just good, nothing wow or mouth watering. Interesting location as it’s more hotel restaurant than stand alone. The Service was just ok too for only having a few guests in the establishment.

Google
Very nice place - hidden at the end of the Hotel We had the Burger with salad and the grilled Salmon with vegetables. Both were very good in quality and taste. I can as well recommend the „Uncle Buck“ cocktail with a twist of smoked taste at the end. Recommendation: Free bread and salted butter would be super to have upfront.

Yelp
We stayed at Carmel Mission Inn for a quick two day getaway. We dined at Shearwater Tavern for dinner (and breakfast!) and loved it. Not only for its convenient location right downstairs but because of its chef-driven menu and stylish decor. The grounds are cozy, quaint and modern. We returned for breakfast with poolside view. The staff were quick and friendly. And the menu was reasonably priced for both meals. I will return. Tip: order dessert to go and sit around the fire pit to enjoy it!

Yelp
Shearwater Tavern is essentially a hotel restaurant located inside the Carmel Mission Inn, a renovated older hotel with a hip, aesthetic redesign. We had an excellent service experience here, our waitress was really lovely and notably professional, and enjoyed a good burger, just okay grilled artichoke and a just okay pasta dish. The prices are reasonable for the Carmel area. You probably wonder why I'm down at a three to 3.5 stars. We had fairly high expectations given the high Yelp average, thinking this would be more of a destination than it was. What we found was a sleepy atmosphere, a restaurant in an upgraded motel/hotel, away from the main drag location-wise and just a-okay food. A lag for us between Yelp ratings versus our actual experience.

David W.

Yelp
Burger and salmon sandwich was good. Service was slow at first but improved and was good as well. Will return to try breakfast in the future, Comfortable setting.

Yelp
I have to say I am beyond impressed. When we where driving to it it looked like but once inside you wouldn't even notice you were where you where. The lady the greeted us wasn't as friendly as the lady that helped us the rest of the time. But honestly the rest of the experience was so great that our initial greeting has no impact on my rating. once they figure out where to sit us the experience only got better. Our server was nothing but PERFECT. She was super friendly, polite, respect full and just the perfect amount of checking on us. We ordered drinks and appetizers and OMG they were all delicious. Everything was perfectly cooked and seasoned. I ordered a salad with prawns and it was delicious.... The icing on the cake was the flan and when you combine ice cream and flan OMG it was heaven. This place was beyond what I expected. I am glad we came here for dinner

Yelp
This restaurant is located at the Carmel Mission Inn where we stayed at. The ambiance was really nice. It was pretty empty and quiet when we went which was perfect after a long day. The server was really nice and explained everything in detailed. For appetizers we ordered the Parker House Rolls and Crispy Calamari which were recommended by other Yelp reviews. The rolls were crispy on top and super soft and sweet on the inside. The butter was really tasty and I liked the sea salt sprinkled on top. The rolls were $8 and though they were good, I don't know if they were $8 good. But nonetheless a nice roll. The calamari ($19) was the highlight of the night, highly recommend it. Usually, the veggies added to appetizers are more of a garnish and usually aren't cooked and flavorless, but the veggies here (zucchini and peppers and roasted lemons which I know is a fruit) were soooo tasty. They battered them up and fried them and they were delicious. Highly highly recommend this dish. For entrees my friend and I ordered the Grilled Pacific Salmon ($26) and the lobster pappardelle (dinner special for $42) to share. I felt that they were decent but nothing super special. My friend really liked the lobster dish but felt that the salmon was fishy. Our server also kindly helped us further de-shell the lobster after noticing that we had barely touched it. This made the meat super easy to pull out and we appreciate the gesture. For drinks I ordered a delayed flight which was a bit bitter and sour so not as refreshing as I had hoped. Overall, a really solid place and the prices seem pretty standard compared to other places nearby. Though they didn't have the best selection I felt that the flavors were pretty nice.

Yelp
I'm going to warn you right off that bat if your on a budget stay away! This place is so expensive but trust me it's worth it! The staff was excellent and extremely considerate would totally recommend! Went with friends so fun!

Yelp
This place is SO good! Very well priced and everything on the menu tastes fantastic. You wouldn't expect from a hotel restaurant but wow! I

Yelp
Since their recent renovation, I've been wanting to try Shearwater Tavern's restaurant at Carmel Mission Inn (on Rio Road), and today I finally had a chance to have breakfast there. Wow - I'm impressed! Started the morning with our pleasant and wonderful server, Marissa; followed by beautiful food presentation (not to mention delicious, too!) and non-stop coffee for a great experience. I had the Classic Breakfast with fluffy scrambled eggs, link sausage cooked to perfection, potatoes and thickly-sliced sourdough toast with a side of jam and extra butter. It was perfection. My friend had thick Buttermilk pancakes topped with fresh berries. This was a pleasant surprise and a great way to begin the week. Way beyond what I expected. #HappyNow

Yelp
Excellent service the waitress was especially attentive and friendly. This restaurant is in the hotel and has some decent options for reasonable prices. They have a good Happy Hour menu and I tried the fried potatoes and had a pint. The tagliatelle pasta with short rib was very good. The grilled salmon with vegetables had a good portion of fish and was perfectly cooked. Simple decor and a good choice for dining.

Yelp
Mom and I stayed at the Carmel mission inn for a little girls trip and drove in from San Diego pretty late. We were starving and way too tired from the long drive to look for a place to eat so decided to take a chance on the hotel restaurant Shearwater Tavern. It was such a great experience! Our server Katelyn was the sweetest. Very chipper and funny and so sweet! Her incredible service really won us over. The cocktails were delicious, in terms of food we got the fried calamari, the house rolls with honey butter and the special which was a prime rib. Everything was scrumptious!!!! The house rolls are a must!! I wish I got more pics but we were so hungry we didn't get a chance.

Yelp
My build your own omelet was delicious. Angel my server came to the table a number of times to ask to refill my coffee also to remove items. Angel has a wonderful personality too. The restaurant is well taken care of, very clean great lighting due to large windows.

Frank A.

Yelp
The food was honestly fantastic. I had a salmon sandwich and my family both had salmon filets and it was beautifully cooked and full of flavor. Deserts were great - the bees knees honey ice cream was mind blowing according to the fam. Service was fast but not in a weird way - no pressure or slapped together dishes. Our server Katelyn was super pleasant, patient with questions and very kind to our daughter.
google avatar

Joey P.

Yelp
Had an amazing night there. The food was delicious. We both had the skirt steak with yuca fries which were great. The highlight was Michelle the server. She was super friendly and helpful, also gave us some tips about local spots. Being connected to the hotel is also super convenient. All in all 10/10

Yelp
Really tasty and much better than anticipated. My husband and I ate here three times while we stayed at the hotel. There are a few hits and a couple of misses. The bread is to die for, the burger taste like heaven and was cooked perfectly. The calamari is made like tempura, but the sauce makes up for the lack of spices. The chicken on rice was interesting...the chicken was great, the rice was trying to be risotto, but tasted like sweet sticky rice. AVOID THE coffee/espresso. The machine looks expensive, but it tastes like instant coffee.

Burt C.

Yelp
OK I was really surprised. A great restaurant in a mediocre hotel? But reviews came in and we've now been for dinner and brunch and can highly recommend. The staff were outstanding: from the host JuanCarlo to the wait staff's recommendations and service (and great sense of humor!), all was fantastic. The food was very good. We're referring everyone we know to the place, and so far all our friends have been impressed as well. Ambiance is so-so, but who cares when everything else is this good!

Lauren O.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I had the best dining experience, all thanks to Katelyn B! She made this restaurant so special! She was so patient, kind, and beyond helpful! I don't live locally, but if I ever returned to Carmel, I'd like to dine wherever she works!
google avatar

Yelp
Great vibe. Great service. Good food. Everything was good - some VERY good and some were fine. It's not the best meal you'll ever have, but no one left hungry. Excited to try for breakfast.

Yelp
We were absolutely blown away and surprised by how amazing the food, cocktails and service were! The Octopus was out of this world! The shaved truffle "tater-tots" were mind blowing (think fried potato fondant with balanced frisée). To finish we had the smoked salmon sandwich and yucca fries, which was amazing. The ambiance was great, Julianna = excellent mixologist as well. Enjoy!!

Clare C.

Yelp
Been here multiple times now and love it everytime. The parker house rolls and calarmari are a must and the food is consistently delicious. The space is beautiful (our favorite seats are tucked next to the fireplace). The bread pudding = the best night cap!

Ken F.

Yelp
I basically never leave reviews for restaurants .. the reason for me doing so now, will be clear in just a few sentences.. the restaurant itself has a beautiful mid century modern vibe.. and everything I've ever ordered has been delicious...... very... very good... but the reason for this five star review is because of our waitress, Angel.. and THAT she is...... The most gracious, kind, helpful, and genuine server I've ever had.. my family weighed in on this one as well.. and we all agreed. Best server we have ever had hands down.. she's the kind of person that changes people's days for the better in one fell swoop. Her kindness actually brought tears to me and my wife's eyes.. I know it sounds over the top.. but it's also true. Thanks Angel! You truly made our weekend!
google avatar

Elaine P.

Yelp
Thanks to Yelp we discovered a new spot for breakfast in Carmel. How often do you see all reviews with five stars? And I am adding another one! The Shearwater was not busy mid-week, and we were told to sit anywhere we liked. We chose the room overlooking the pool. We were impressed with the pleasant decor and artwork. Attractive pottery cups and dishes. With prompt and friendly service, our coffee cups were soon filled. Carmel Roasters coffee is not my favorite, but I do appreciate it when restaurants use local sources. DH opted for the Classic Breakfast. He had two eggs over easy, two plump links of country sausage (not at all greasy), and grilled multigrain bread. Jam and butter were in cute pottery ramkins. The meal was only $13! In comparison, our usual breakfast spot changes $22 for a similar entree. I ventured out with the Seasonal Local Roasted Vegetables which were topped with two perfectly poached eggs and a side of grilled local bread (AKA toast). Name your favorite vegetable and it was probably in this delicious mixture. My meal came in a small cast iron skillet nestled on a small wooden platter. The Shearwater opened in the summer of 2021. It still looks fresh! I could tell a lot of attention went into setting the stage for a pleasant dining experience. Little touches make a difference: large cloth napkins, attractive salt and pepper shaker, pottery dishes. But it is the menu selection, price (value!), and service that will bring us back on our next visit to Carmel. Having checked the menu, I think DH will want to try dinner here, too. While the menu is not extensive, it offers some interesting choices. The Parker House Rolls sound especially good. The bar menu warrants more exploring. I was pleased to see my favorite Anderson Valley Amber Ale on tap along with beers from Carmel Valley and Monterey. The wine list while not extensive has some reasonable options. However, I was disappointed to see that no wineries from Carmel Valley were represented. I also applaud Shearwater for stating in the menu: "Water Upon request." We need to see more of that in drought-striken California. A near perfect visit to Shearwater Tavern. We hope to return soon!

Yelp
Delicious, quick breakfast. We stayed at the Carmel Mission Inn and this restaurant is connected to the hotel so we decided to grab some breakfast before our drive down the Big Sur. I had the coastal traveler breakfast which consisted of scrambled egg whites, sundried tomatoes, spinach, and came with toast. I ordered a side of bacon with my meal which came with 4 crispy bacon pieces. The butter was a very nice consistency for spreading and the jam tasted fresh and delicious. The coffee beans were roasted in Carmel, as the menu says. My husband ordered the avocado toast which was topped with salmon and a hard boiled egg cut in half and it looked really good. He ate every last bite which generally means, he really enjoyed it! I'm glad we stopped for breakfast. It will carry us through our sightseeing adventures today, for sure! Service was very nice and friendly. I couldn't have asked for a better send off.

Roger P.

Yelp
Surprised with all of the high ratings. The place was nice and well appointed. Our server was good - knowledgeable and nice personality. The food however was not great. Hamburger was not close to the best - bun was burnt and the burger itself was noting to write home about. Bread pudding for desert was a disappointment - way too dense and not fully cooked. Too many other great places in the area to try.

Yelp
A M A Z I N G. My partner and I are staying at the connecting resort and decided to try this place and we were not disappointed. Noraa in the front was amazing, not only did she help us to our seat but she also gave us meal recommendations and recommendations for places to try in town. She was very warm and welcoming, came back to check on us even after being served by our server. She is such a sweet person! Angel was our server and the name is very fitting. She swiftly came to us to greet and had no problem helping us out with the menu, highlighting the local places that the restaurant gets their breads, coffee and honey from. She was very attentive and welcoming, joining us in conversation. She definitely made me feel special on my birthday. We ordered the coffee and the braised short ribs which were both amazing. We will definitely be back. Quality Customer service, Quality food and the perfect restaurant to bring friends, family and loved ones. This a 5/5 perfect restaurant that you must come to if visiting Carmel. You don't want to miss this experience.

Yelp
Excellent food that's very reasonable for the area! A definite must visit. Rolls are great, French onion soup had lots of cheese, very tasty, and calamari was on point! Will definitely try other items next time.

Yelp
Great service and ambiance, and remarkably reasonably priced dishes with a variety that will please most anyone! A very pleasant surprise. We had a lovely time.

Yelp
This is a little gem here in Carmel. The breakfast is great and the prices are reasonable. The ambiance is nice, bright, clean and cozy. The service is exceptional. Our server was Angel. She is literally the best waitress we've ever had! She gave excellent suggestions about the food and different locations to visit while in town. Angel's personality and love for her job was obvious. Did I mention she's the best waitress we've ever had? Try this restaurant, I'm so happy we did!

Marsha H.

Yelp
A surprising find in a hotel adjacent restaurant. The menu is eclectic and everything we tried was delicious, especially the papparadelle with short rib ragu and a meaty short rib on top. A surprise was the tempura green beans were light and not over battered. We had had the pleasure of meeting Chef Fabian. A very knowledgeable man with a broad base of experience. Also a very nice person.

Marie G.

Yelp
Chef didn't disappoint on Easter, yet another exceptional meal! The house-smoke salmon benedict was incredible and should be on the regular menu. Served with a side of capers, red onions and really fresh cream cheese that tasted homemade Other guests in our group opted for the special Easter burger. Chef is known for his amazingly simple yet crazy yummy burgers. This one didn't disappoint... he added poached egg, smoked ham, havarti cheese and chimichuri, paired with yucca chips (always a fave) and a simple salad. One in our group asked for blue cheese for their salad and our server brought out epic blue cheese crumbles! Of course we all tasted them to our delight, fresh and flavorful. Sometimes the wait service can be a little slow but that is no fault of the kitchen. Orders once put in come out quickly. Our local favorite and highly recommended.

Yelp
Another very good meal with great service. From the hot from the oven, fresh fluffy parker house rolls with honey butter, to the delicate tempura battered green beans with the tasty dipping sauce, to tenderly melting off the bone baby back ribs and barbecue sauce; and finishing with macerated strawberries with a scone and house made whipped cream, it was a delicious meal. Service was excellent. Pricing is a good value for what you get. Enjoy it and will return again:)

Jennifer N.

Yelp
Continue to come back to this cool spot for breakfast! More affordable than other breakfast spots in the area. Nice ambiance. Never have to wait too long to get a table. Kids love the pancakes and avocado toast! Angel and Laura were so kind and welcoming. Shared with us that if we decided to use the pool, there were some other good food options as well!
google avatar

Nuriel S.

Yelp
Really delicious dinner menu! Highly recommend starting off with the Parker house rolls and housemade shearwater tots. The salmon was delicious but the Cacio e pepe could use a little more flavor, didn't really get a pecorino taste. The espresso martini was the perfect nightcap and the staff were truly amazing.
google avatar

Michael M.

Yelp
This place has outstanding food. Locals know it's delicious:) Brian makes amazing espresso martinis and the shearwater tot is to die for!!

Derek B.

Yelp
My night at Shearwater Tavern was absolutely fantastic! The ambiance was perfect, and our server Michele went above and beyond, making the entire dining experience truly exceptional. The culinary delights combined with Michele's attentive service created lasting memories. Highly recommend! HIGHLY RECOMMEND. we go to so many restaurants and are huge food critics, and this was amazing, exceeded all expectations and will be coming here every time we go to Carmel.

Yelp
Had the Dry Aged Tavern Burger and the House Hot Smoked Salmon Sandwich. The burger was very juicy, and the fries were done well. Had a simple salad with Salmon Sandwich, and it came with wonderful local seeded bread; I wish I knew where they got it. The simple salad had a good mix of texture and flavors.

Kevin D.

Yelp
Plain and simply their burger is AWESOME. It's better than Duffys or the Beach House and equal to the burgers one got at Montrio Bistro before the new ownership. We also got the Salmon (dinner not sandwich), which was quite good but not in the same class as the burger. I cannot comment on the service as this was take out.

Windy C.

Yelp
We were staying at Carmel Mission Inn and decided to grab a bite at Shearwater Tavern. Ended up getting brunch, lunch and dinner during our stay for the weekend! Very attentive staff and great food! Try the fried artichokes and Skirt Steak Chimmy Curry...yum!

Erin H.

Yelp
What a hidden gem! Food is AMAZING...a unique and imaginative take on "tavern" faire. Loved the Latin flavor! Our waitress was very sweet and attentive. Not sure why this place wasn't more crowded. We loved it!

Patrick T.

Yelp
We had an amazing experience this morning at the Shearwater Tavern this morning, located inside of our lodging at the Carmel Mission Inn. The Inn has been totally updated, and very relaxing,. It has been our observation that restaurants inside a hotel or Inn are not always exceptional, but that is truly not the case here. Starting with delightful and tranquil ambience, the Shearwater Tavern was most inviting. The menu looked amazing, and our meal was over the top. My wife ordered avocado toast that she really enjoyed, and had beautiful presentation. She loved it! She also ordered iced coffee, and she is very picky about - but it was perfect for her palette. I might add the the waitress that assisted us really capped our enjoyment of the whole experience. Angel went into a nice amount of detail as to how she prepared her iced coffee. It could not have been better! I ordered a cappuccino, also prepared by Angel, and absolutely delicious! My meal was Overnight Oats, which Angel assured me had been prepared the evening before. With all the incredible and delicious choices on the menu, this was perfect for me. We also shared a light pastry, Shearwater Beignets. Didn't quite know what to expect (along with the correct pronunciation!) but like the rest of our meal were a great treat! Light, airy, and bursting with flavor. Every aspect of our visit this morning was certainly elevated to a surprising and amazing experience, not just the amazing meal itself. Angel was most certainly the highlight of the whole experience!! Pat & Mary Tunney

Yelp
Went for breakfast and dinner. Dinner: ordered parkerhouse rolls (they were wout of them. "fresh" oysters - not fresh tasting, very gritty, room temp. Steak Freitas - very well cooked, great flavor, and crunchy shoe string style fries. Spinach salad - never came . Breakfast: Breakfast sandwich with potatoes - came with salad when they brought the potatoes everything was good. 2 egg Breakfast meal - bacon was almost flavorless, potatoes were very good. Creamer was hard to come by They delt with a 'covid crazy' very well when she was freaking out about sitting too close to other people. They were professional and kind. Moved her to another table and the lady then complained about the view. They were nice the whole time. So my 3 star is a 4.

Ellie G.

Yelp
The food is excellent here! The quality and pricing of this restaurant is far better than anything else in the area. Was a guest of the hotel so had a delicious breakfast here one morning, had dinner another night, and then stopped by for a night cap after eating in the village one night. It was perfect!

Yelp
Here's an honest review. We went there at about 7 pm on a Wednesday. We were the only people there, a few more showed up later. The staff was very welcoming. The furniture and decor was spot on. Our dinners, halibut special and cacio y pepe were well prepared and presented. Whoever the chef is, may be under utilized at this spot. Wine by the glass was reasonable for Carmel, by the bottle was overpriced by comparison. Please rethink your music. And there is a scent throughout the hotel, and even in the patio area, that needs to be dialed down.

Yelp
I loved this place so much, that I decided to actually stay at the hotel. The food is perfect and the service is great. It is my new favorite restaurant in Carmel based on overall experience. I very highly recommend .

Yelp
Not quite sure what I thought when coming here. The servers were bombarded with a skeleton crew and the restaurant was pretty full. The female bartender was flustered and messed up a few drinks. My husband and I watched with interest as she proceeded to make 2 margaritas for a table that apparently had something wrong and kept bringing it back to be remade. It took the third time for the table to not return it again. The food is mediocre. The tempura string beans were nice and crispy, though. They were out of oysters ... at 5 pm...The service was a little slow but with a skeleton crew of 2 women it's to be expected. I think Going next door to Sur's or to sea Harvest would yield better results.

Yelp
My fiancé and I were searching for a place to host a farewell breakfast after our wedding, and came across this restaurant in Carmel Mission Inn Hotel! Since our hotel room blocks are also with Carmel Mission Inn Hotel, we knew this would be the perfect place. The restaurant is newly renovated and very nice. They serve both breakfast and dinner and have decent prices. While we were there, I also wanted to try a couple different drinks. The bartender, Tobias, made me a Long Island and a Mai Tai... and they were both so good! I high recommend this place. We look forward to having our event in August!!

Yelp
The best hotel restaurant/bar I've ever eaten at. The vibes are a bit corporate, but the food, cocktails, and service are 10/10.

Yelp
My husband and I ate both the breakfast and dinner at this lovely spot and let me just say...THE SALTED ROLLS ARE TO DIE FOR. My husband and I ate the entire appetizer. All 6 rolls!!! The staff was lovely, the vibe was so calm and inviting. Definitely a must when you visit Carmel!!

Yelp
They had just opened when we went so service was a little confused, but they clearly cared and were very friendly. The food was excellent and we enjoyed hearing about their local ingredients. The ambiance and decor were on trend. We would definitely go back when we are in town again.

Yelp
Shearwater Tavern is the newly remodeled restaurant in the Carmel Mission Inn. We are locals who read some other positive reviews so we decided to try it. The menu offered lots of variety (Parker House rolls- so fun and delicious!). The half Mary's chicken entree was flavorful with lots of vegetables, and the salmon entree with black lentils was spot on. In this age of rising restaurant prices, Shearwater Tavern is amazingly reasonable. They have a happy hour with small bites and $6.00 wine and beer (4:00-5:30 Tuesday-Saturday). Dinner is served Tuesday- Saturday. Breakfast is Monday-Sunday. The service was great, too.
