Steer clear of this store. I have been ordering wine from them for over five years without incident: until this Christmas. I ordered wine as a gift for my friend, the order was never shipped, but my credit card was charged. Emails and phone calls were subsequently ignored. A few days later after repeated complaints my friend received an email informing her that the wines are not in stock. We are still waiting for the promised refund. And I won’t give them any peace until my money is refunded. This is beyond bad customer service: it has scam written all over it. You cannot sell what you do not have.

Driving themselves out of business....check out the most recent reviews. My story is no exception. They're happy to charge your CC and give you an ETA; when that date passes, no email response to my inquiry, and a super-rude rep answered after 40 minutes on hold, saying they're out of stock on every single item in my order. She repeatedly asked if I wanted to cancel, interrupting as I tried to find out if they knew if/when they'd get any of the items in stock. Shameful, and completely unlike any other wine shop I've ordered from. I've ordered from them in the past and things went fine. Perhaps they're on the way out and just over it at this point. I could handle waiting but the customer service at this point is no bueno.

I've been buying wine online from multiple stores for 15 years, and Sherry Lehmann is the single worst customer experience I've ever had. I bought 3 bottles of wine back in July, which I was told would be delivered that week. They never came, I contacted the store and they said that they were delayed and would be a few weeks. Fine, no problem I said! Now it's November and I found the bottles for sale elsewhere for less so I tried to cancel my order. Nobody picks up the phone when you call and there are no responses to emails. It's actually crazy how there's zero customer support, it seems. I'm still trying to cancel my order and get a refund, as they charged me at the time of my order... hopefully they will do the right thing and reverse the charge on my credit card since I never received the bottles.

AVOID! Disgraceful business practices. We ordered over $150 worth of wine for Thanksgiving on 11/15 that was supposed to be delivered on 11/23; worth noting the delivery address was within 2 miles of the shop. The delivery never came, and we made due without it. When I went on 11/25 to pick up the wine in person (after spending 10+ minutes on hold and sending an inquiry email which received no response) I was informed that they did not have the wines we ordered in stock, had not had them in stock recently, and did not know if and when they would be coming in. They knew this all along and never thought to alert us that a delivery we were counting on would never come! And still had these wines listed for sale online! I asked for a refund and they wrote "cancelled" on a piece of paper with the order information on it and handed it to me - I asked repeatedly for a confirmation email which they stated was impossible. They also revealed no one reads the inquiry emails. Unclear how they are able to send a promotional email (advertising wines they probably don't actually have in stock) every other day without the staff to manage their inquiry/help account, but somehow they manage it. They said to look for a refund in a few weeks. After seeing other reviews here my confidence that it will come is very low.

Exceptionally poor, non-existent service. No one answers the phone or responds to emails. They advertise wines they do not have in stock. You pay. Weeks later when they haven’t arrived, you cancel your order and are promised a refund. It never comes, and then for over a week now no one there picks up the phone or responds to emails. Before giving them your credit card online, just try to call them or email them. You’ll see.

I ordered online to prepare for a family gathering of us all flying into NYC. I ordered on 12/12 was told my order would be there on 12/20. On 12/26 still never delivered. and store closed I was never contacted. Tried to email and call the store with no response. I went into the store to ask what was going on and they said that ordering from the website doesn't work. So I asked why there isn't a statement on the website about this. They had no response. I also asked for a full refund which they said they couldn't process in the store. I finally got a manger to get the credit. They have great wine at the store but I wouldn't order anything online. Very unreliable. They take your money but don't deliver any wine. Unfortunately we didn't have the wine we wanted for our celebration. Now I have read so many others with same experience. they should be reported

Downfall of an iconic store......they still have my $300 I spent right after Christmas, no hope of ever getting it back, if the founders could see what their offspring have done to a big and pretty decent business they would shoot them. I would not say they were the best wine store ever but they did have some good deals and the delivery in the metro area was super speedy. RIP If I could give it zero stars I would. No doubt many people reading this review will know that the FBI recently raided the store and its offices, these guys really are a bunch of criminals. And I feel bad for all the people who work there, not only are they out of jobs but probably feel completely betrayed.

Impressive ! I was admiring this shop , so I had to pop in . It definitely has a bit of a snobby vibe . For some reason , I found it entertaining. I was reading other reviews , lots mentioning vintage Dom ,wow , that's fabulous and extravagant. I bought one bottle , it was over priced from what it usually cost , but somehow , being slightly intimidated, I whipped out the Amex platinum as if to establish , I do belong here . I did asked for an item that is a little cringy , not for me , And they practically walked me to the door . The shop is gorgeous, they know the goods . And it sounds like the wine selection is sublime.as far as Collectibles and unique finds . Check it out ! The elegance is sweet !

A sad demise to a once-fine wine store. A while ago, I ordered some fancy wine wine pre-arrival, but not before e-mailing them to ask how much it would cost to ship to my specific Zip Code in Indiana. (Their e-mail subject was "Free National Shipping and 25% Off!") A manager Rebecca K. e-mailed me that the shipping would be free. When I later e-mailed to see if the wine had finally arrived, Rebecca replied that it had arrived 9 months before and I should have received a notification at that time. (I hadn't.) When I inquired about shipment timing, she replied that she was unable to ship to Indiana, and hadn't been able to for many years. When I expressed dismay and surprise that she hadn't mentioned this when I asked that exact question, she wrote, "I have looked back through our emails and I cannot find where I may have misspoke [sic]." So I forwarded her the e-mail in which she had written in reply to my Zip Code/Indiana query, "That is no problem at all. Please let me know 48 hours in advance for delivery. There is [sic] no additional shipping fees!" I never received an acknowledgement of her mistake, or an apology for the inconvenience (I'd have to ship to a friend's place in a different state and pick it up several months later.), just an apology "for the confusion." It's true, Sherry-Lehmann and its manager were confused, and unwilling to admit fault. I was sad and disappointed to receive such poor customer service, though obviously I wasn't the only person treated badly by this merchant. Judging by the other stories here of dishonestly and cheating, Sherry-Lehmann's downfall seems to have been a long time coming.

The demise of a once great wine store. I don't know if it was the pandemic but they used to be one of the finest in NYC. For a while they were offering great on-line promotions. It first, it was fine. They fulfillment got slower and slower. Then two orders were simply not shipped after several weeks. Tried calling but no one answered the phone for days. Finally went to the store midday on a weekday to find it closed. Amex refunded by charges but I haven't been back since. Too bad.

Do not buy from them! Ordered a case of wine in December which was supposed to be delivered the next week. Wasn't. Credit card was charged the day of the order. I called and was told it was backordered with unknown date. Asked for a refund and was told it would take 15 days. No refund after 15 days. Emailed them. Told it would be another 10 days. Still no refund. Disputed charge with credit card company. Sherry Lehmann essentially wanted to steal my money.

Possibly the most frustrating experience I've ever had with any retailer. I ordered and paid for $150 of "in-stock" liquor in August 2022. It's now March...7 months later and NOTHING!! After trying to call and being on hold for literally hours, I resorted to emailing customer service. No response despite sending four emails over two months. Eventually I get a response that due to supply chain issues, the bourbon I ordered was never in stock (as shown on the website) but would eventually be sent directly by their suppliers. This was not rare bourbon (Angel's Envy was one) but nothing ever arrived. Today, March 7th, I am sitting in my office on hold for the last 30 minutes...a full 7 months after my order. They were very quick to take my money and at this point it feels like they stole it. Disgraceful....never, ever try and buy from this place. UPDATE: I emailed this business again yesterday (3/17). The automated response said they are out of business. Clearly their suppliers have not been paid, which is why I never received my order...no one would work with them. Yet they were still selling gift certificates, which is fraud. I take them from disgraceful down to despicable.

I see from other reviews that my experience is consistent with others: An order placed in early December has yet to be fulfilled in late February. The customer service person is about as apathetic as anyone could be. Don't waste your time. Go someplace else.

I wrote 2 emails, I called (you are on hold for ever or they hung up in you). Finally a representative answered and stated they were very busy and I could cancel the order. I canceled the order. By today, 12/20/22 I never got the money back. I guess the net step is the legal one.

Placed an order on June 24th, 2022 for a local delivery of a single bottle of wine as a gift in Brooklyn. The delivery was initially scheduled for July 5th which was not clear until the order was placed. So 11 days for a local delivery in of itself is kind of a joke, but I found the bottle I wanted and the delivery included a gift card so I didn't cancel the order. Had to send a follow up email on July 7th for an update and got this response: "We are checking the status of your order with our warehouse and inventory team and will get back to you shortly once we hear something from them." Apparently "shortly" is a relative term. Had to send yet another email on July 12th (now 18 days after initial order) asking for an update and finally got this response: "We do apologize for the delay. We are experiencing very long delays through our supply chain, out-of-stock items, etc. This particular wine is not available at the moment with our supplier, so we would like to offer some possible suitable substitutes we do have in stock right now." While I did not like the two alternatives provided I asked for a different wine from their site, which you guessed it, was also out of stock. Strike 3, asked for a refund, and subsequently placed an order via TheLiquorstore.com and local delivery occurred the same day. The last email response was a bit stunning for a service based business who believe it is acceptable to require its customers to be proactive before placing an online order: "In the future, it would be much better to either email me the item or items you want to order and I can let you know if they are in stock so you can place your online order, or you can reach out to one of our salespeople who can place your order over the phone." Wow, how convenient. Now we can all recognize supply chain issues. But a reasonable person would expect a business to adapt to the supply conditions especially by this point in time, as opposed to being ok with simply leaving its customers in the dark. To recap: 1. Sherry-Lehman has no desire to update their website when items are out of stock (their expectation is to have customers email or call to see if items are actually in stock before placing an online order) 2. There is no mechanism in place to notify customers if an item is out of stock or if there is a delay in shipping either before or after an order is placed (I had to send 2 follow up emails to check on order status) 3. Sherry-Lehman believes that a local delivery scheduled for 11 days after the order date is acceptable, and has a lack of transparency on the delivery date until the order is paid & confirmed. (how many of you would have cancelled an order that was scheduled for 11 days for a local delivery of a single bottle of wine if you knew that timing upfront?)

They charge your credit card, telling you the wine is coming "next week" and when you finally give up after months of waiting and ask for a refund they sit on it for weeks. Used to be a great place, I used to spend thousands of dollars a year with them but something horrible has happened. Shouldn't be that you order wine in August and you have to chase them in October to get your money back. Avoid!

I have been a customer for +15yrs. Normally all ok. Placed an order on 8/10/22 and was told delivery would be 8/18/22. Well nothing arrived. AND when I call, FAX or email I get no response. The phone rings and then just plays "waiting music, etc." forever. Got no response from email or FAX. The silence has been since 8/17/22. I do not know what is going on, but I have been waiting since 8/10/22 for my order and now I am unable to even contact them. This is really a problem. I order 3-4 times a year but I guess the sterling delivery service of this store has fallen. AND they need to fix the phone.

Buyer beware of their gift card policy. I received a $100 gift card and went to use it recently but was told it was only worth $20. I was never told that they charge a $2 monthly fee if the card is not used. The company refused to honor the card even though I am an established customer.

I have been ordering from them past 3 years for myself and gifts for my friends. They had been great but their service went downhills. I called to ask some questions about wines this May and the lady who answered was very rude. This time I ordered wines to my friends for 4th of July bbq and confirmed it would be delivered on time. I ensured it because I want to make sure they enjoy it with their bbq. They got it after the independence day and I didn't get any updates. No reason to spend thousand dollars and get this kind of unprofessional service

One of my favorite wine shops, especially in the area! Yes, the service very much varies depending on who you get. If I could I would give 4.5 stars for that. I've walked out once due to bad service and didn't order to my place one because of the same thing. But: I've found so many gems here! Because of this wine shop, I've had 1996 Dom Perignon, a 1990 Chateauneuf du Pape, and other gems. When you get a salesperson that is helpful, your experience will be amazing. They do have more inexpensive wines than the ones I've listed of course, but this is a more upscale wine shop and you can find many great gems here. I love this place and would come back again and again, even if only for the fantastic section in wine.

Be careful, I have been ordering from them for years, but something has happened. Ordered 3 bottles 11/9 for over $100. Email said it would be shipped 11/17, When it hadn't arrived by the 19th, I began the first of many unanswered emails and phone calls where I would give up after over 10 minutes on hold. Tried to cancel over email, and of course no response. Finally got someone on the line last week who first got upset at the phone reception and blamed my phone (a brand new landline at work), then told me that this wine wasn't even in the warehouse and they didn't know when it would arrive (the second time in the last 6 months this has happened with them). And to top it off, argued with me that the email only said Nov. 17 was a possible date for shipment when it actually said it was the shipment date, I then said to cancel my order, and wouildn't you know it, I was then disconnected! Tried calling back and again was on hold for 10 minutes and I gave up. I have disputed this with my credit card co. and they have credited my account. I gave one star because there wasn't a no star option. STAY AWAY FROM THEM.

Only purchase from Sherry Lehman Wine and Spirits if you do not care about being ignored and mistreated. I ordered a case of wine to be shipped which I paid for and have never received. Sherry Lehman used UPS to deliver and both claim the wine was delivered. An adult signature was required and Sherry Lehman told me I would have to file a claim with UPS. They were of no assistance and take no responsibility for their choice of supplier. I will never do business with them again so tread carefully should you choose to purchase through Sherry Lehman. I am still trying to resolve with UPS who are not easy to deal with either. Frustration all around.

I have been a customer of this Wine Shop for many years and was very disappointed in the level of service I received there approximately 2 weeks ago. I went in to buy a bottle of wine and wanted the opinion of a sales associate. The associate I tried to solicit help from was a lady by the name of Magda. It seemed that Magda was more concerned about carrying on a conversation with another associate about her money in the Ukraine than she was about providing good customer service. She practically ignored me. She was condescending when she did bother to answer and continuously engaged with her co-worker about her Ukraine concerns. I have worked in customer service for many years. A true professional should never ignore a customer. Her behavior was unprofessional and I will try at all costs to avoid her when I shop there again. Magda provided a very poor customer service experience and I Ieft the store quite frustrated. If it happens again, I will buy my wine and spirits somewhere else

Do not order anything on line from this store. Entirely absent customer service via phone or using the "inquiries" email left me no choice, but to visit the store on Park Avenue. Although the representative there was helpful, they could not sort out when the wine I ordered would be delivered even tho' the on-line estimate had been 3 weeks ago. I cancelled my order, but was told it could be anywhere from 5 days to several weeks before I would see the credit. I will stick to more reliable shops like PJ's or Flatiron in the future.

The place is falling apart. An order I put in December 3 and we confirmed December 30 was never delivered, with no notice from them. No phone call nothing. It is now going to take 20 business days to issue a refund. The advice I got from Customer Service was not to order anything online. If you go to the store, and you have your hands on a bottle of wine that exists, buy it if you want. But do not order online.

Imagine the Museum of Natural History with no dinosaurs, nothing but empty halls. That's Sherry-Lehmann today, bare shelves and much more disturbing no customer service, no deliveries and NO REFUNDS! Any yet they still solicit your business via email offers. Sad really, a once respectable wine shop now brazenly taking your money with literally no stock and no intention of refunding your money. Perhaps SL will regroup with stock and service loyal customers have come to appreciate but for now -- go elsewhere!!

Beware. Placed order of over $1000 for advertised wines (hyped in SL emails). SL did not have wines in stock, failed to disclose that, failed of course to deliver by date listed in order, which meant I had none of the expected wines for Christmas. Now taking 15 days to refund cancelled order and trying to charge restocking fee for wines they did not have.

As others have written here, Sherry-Lehmann has sunk like a stone. They had a terrific reputation that they always lived up to. We took a break, and came back six years later, just now, to find that they can't even get my address right. They did manage to grab the charges from my credit card immediately, but there was no shipment. I am finally told that their stock is sold out and they don't know when it will be re-supplied. They invite me to cancel the order. They had best not charge their cancellation fee. They must be going out of business. What a loss. PS I forgot to write that Sherry Lehmann is listed this month as one of NY's top businesses delinquent in their tax payments, at over $3 million. My husband and I spent thousands of dollars at your store over the years. Last few deliveries few bottles of wine were corked. When we finally sent email about one particular 50$ bottle of wine being corked and asked for refund extremely rude and unfriendly customer service reply. Just basic search into customer history would tell employees that we spent thousands every year on wine. And it was a principle after many corked wine over last few months that we actually complained about. We will not shop here again. Plenty of other placed that value they customers.

This place is expensive and the customer service is awful. Recently purchased a vintage bottle of Dom Perignon ($500/BTL). Before making the purchase I had been confirmed that the original box would be included. After receiving the bottle in a card board crate, I called to see where the original box was. After a few days of getting the run around, I finally got a call back informing that they would not be sending a box but that I was eligible for a 10% on a future purchase. My jaw dropped with this very generous offer. Bunch of clowns. Might as well have purchased on back of a truck. Stay away from this place.

This is a solid choice for the wine amaters, connosour and just for anyone looking to get that specific bottle that nobody else has in stock. Coming in to the store you can peruse their selection or if you are like me, i bring my sherry Lehman catalog and i go to work looking for what i need. Understand that you will pay premium and althougj some people may consider it a bit stuffy dont be afraid to tell your sales person exactly for what you are looking. Sometimes i like to call ahead so that they can hold bottles for me. If you get their catalog sometimes you can find a good buy for limited quantity products. Excellent service all around if you buy online or thru their catalog. They do not diasapoint. If there is something you want they may be able to special order it, just ask.

Agree with what others aid here. This place used to be the best. Now, sadly, they don't deliver as scheduled. one week turns to 4 weeks. Customer service is dismissive, and just tells you 2 more weeks. I used to order here every month. stopped a couple of years ago after my last service issue. I decided to give them another shot and placed an order last week after they sent me a promo email. Same problem the delivery date comes and goes and I'm told 2 more weeks at least. So sad to see this place so poorly managed.

Please avoid this business. I ordered from their website and the delivery was supposed to take 7-10 days. After a few weeks nothing happened - when I called I was told that the order will soon be on its way. However, this did not take place. after a few rounds of follow up calls, the company suggested to reimburse the order. However, this has not taken place. This is a robbery in a daylight, please avoid this business, it is not reliable and will happily charge you, but not deliver.

Disappointed. Since it doesn't seem like the store cares to help their customers or improve their service, this review to ward off others from what seems to be a very sketchy business. I bought 10 bottles of a specific wine I haven't been able to find elsewhere in NYC in early February. It's a French Bordeaux blend from 2017, a very inexpensive wine that I've had numerous times in restaurants and know what it's supposed to taste like. I have opened two bottles and both have smelled and tasted like vinegar, and are brownish in color. The vintage is very recent so neither of these should be occurring. I had one or two sips and had to stop, even though I have a relatively tolerable palate that has experience prolonging the life of a wine as long as possible (to the annoyance of my boyfriend). Anyway, I called the store and first spoke to Nick. I asked if there was anything that could be done, as the two bottles I've opened have both been bad and I'm afraid to open the other eight bottles should they also be bad. Nick was incredibly helpful and asked if I still had the receipt with me--I did not. He said it was no problem and that we could look up the transaction details and forward them to Customer Service, who would likely deal with the situation by sending me new bottles. Sounded great to me. I gave him all of the details but didn't remember what day I came in the store, so told him I'd look up my bank statement and call him straight back. I call back and speak to another man (not Nick) and explain the situation. He sounds very confused after I explain to him the situation, and tells me he doesn't need the transaction date, that he would not look up the transaction for me, and that I should bring the eight bottles to the store and they'd see if they were bad. If they were, they'd refund the 8 (he mentioned nothing of the 2 that were already bad). I asked if we could please look up the transaction first before I lugged everything across town, which I'm very willing to do but want to confirm they are able to find my details. He starts to become stand-offish and I asked if I could speak to Nick, who had been very helpful. He says I can't, so I ask him to please take down the details, look up the transaction, and call me back. Have I heard back? Nope. I will be going back in person and hope that Nick is working!

It seems they're either out of business, or going out of business. As with the other recent reviews, most of my order last month never came (supposedly on "back order" with no eta). The promised refund to my credit card never appeared. And for the past two weeks no one answers the phone or responds to emails. At all.

So sad. Ordered a large format bottle of champagne in August to be delivered for a 50th birthday. To this day no delivery and no communication. Unanswered emails and impossible to get anyone on the phone. Of course they charged my credit card immediately. So disappointing. A once great establishment. Have shopped there since the 70s.

We've been dealing with Sherry-Lehman for years to get wine to our cottage in Upstate NY. Things have always been great. This year we placed an order last week. There was not delivery scheduled. Then we contacted them and at least one third of the wines we ordered were no longer in stock and they couldn't promise delivery till next week of what they had. We are VERY disappointed and will be dealing with Sokolin from now on.

They are going bankrupt. I placed an order for my customers as usual do for the past 8 years. (Christmas order) customer service took my order didn't mention they didn't even have it in stock(over$4,800) this was on November 29th. Which the article came out they are going bankrupt on December 7th. Every week they tell me a different story. Not ethical business practices. They know they are shutting down take customers money when they don't have money to pay their vendors so they use your money you sent them. I see in an article they take over $800 k from one customer. Buyer beware don't order from them because you won't be getting your product. They ignore your emails and they just don't care at this point because they are going out of business. You will have to wind up disputing on your credit card because they are using your money to pay their bills. Order on wine.COM you will get the wine in a day and they are reputable. You try to give a small family business the money but they are dishonest and schemers. Don't have any intention of shipping what you ordered because they don't even have it. With this review looking to help the people out there that are looking to purchase from them. You will be wasting your time and money because you won't be getting what you ordered.

Ordered a bottle of champagne online on 8/11 to be delivered to NJ on 8/17 for a birthday. Paid over $20 in express shipping and another $15 for gift packaging. Received a confirmation on 8/11 that order was received (again said delivery 8/17) and that I would receive an email with tracking info when it was shipped. I never received a shipping/tracking email and instead I received another order confirmation email on 8/16 with the same info as the 8/11 email. I then tried calling the number on the email 3 times and was put on hold for 20 mins each time and no one ever picked up. I then emailed the 'inquiries' email on 8/16 & 8/17 and no one has responded. It's now 8/18 and my friend still has not received her champagne and I have no idea if it's even shipped. Horrible customer service, I would have ordered from somewhere local but thought Sherry-Lehmann would give better service - very wrong.

I've been a longtime customer, often stopping by the store to pick up a bottle. This Christmas I ordered the sampler case Unsung Heroes of Bordeaux for my father. It took 11 days to arrive from date of order, which I think is egregious. Not only did the gift fail to arrive by Christmas but it took close to two weeks. I did not see notice on their website that delivery would take so long, but was only informed after the fact when I inquired that delivery would occur within a national standard set for the pandemic. I'm all for supporting local business but they need to do better.

What joy it was the be surrounded by beautiful wine that echo through history and the lands they come from. The sales person was knowledgeable. I have nothing, but praise for the store. I will definitely shop and recommend this store to anyone that is in New York.

i placed an order on dec 11th...on dec 23rd, i was alerted that it was on backorder...when i tried to get in touch in the interim, i was placed on a recording - i tried for 5 days with no success...i sent an email and that took two days and that's when i was told that the item was on backorder...you may get wine from this firm, but don't expect customer service...

Had to return gifts of Dom Perignon because the business gifts were flagged by the compliance part of the company's legal department and they made it super easy. It was a sad return but had to be done and very appreciative they made it so easy.

If you need a bottle of wine that's hard to find, especially if it's foreign, this is your place. I was very impressed with the service, attentiveness of the staff, and recommendations. I felt welcomed, comfortable, and I have no doubt these guys are the wine experts. Will 100% be back. Thank you!
