The Best Restaurants In Tokyo

"Shinbusakiya is the spot for miso ramen, which is generally on the saltier side. But the noodles are why we come to Shinbusakiya - they’re more like Chinese egg noodles than traditional ramen noodles, and they’re very good. The Shibuya neighborhood, home to the famous Shibuya crossing, is normally packed during the day with shoppers, but is also a hotspot for bars and clubs, so there’s nothing wrong with finding your way here after a long night." - josh layne

Tokyo Restaurants Primed for Olympics Face Summer Without Tourists | Eater

"A Shibuya ramen shop that heavily retooled for foreign customers ahead of the Olympics — adding vegan, gluten-free, and "non-pork" (chicken and fish) ramen, printing English materials, and buying a six-language touchscreen ticket machine — now faces steep losses: year-over-year revenue fell about $62,000 in March with a projected $83,000 decline in April, and the expensive investments (for example, gluten-free noodles cost 350–400 yen per 100g with only a six-month shelf life, and the ticket machine ran about $37,000) risk becoming unrecoverable if tourism remains stalled." - Frank Striegl

Google
It's rare to find a vegan or gluten free ramen in Tokyo, but this place offers both! The noodles are pretty good, and the broth is okay. They do have regular ramen. Overall a good ramen experience.

Google
Delicious gluten free ramen offerings! 🍜🥟 The gyoza was delicious 🤤 There's not a ton of space but we were able to grab a table at around 12/1 or so. Thank you for offering gluten free items and having gluten free soy sauce!

Google
Wonderful gluten free ramen! The soy sauce ramen was the best ramen I’ve ever had. It’s so nice to have a gluten free option in Tokyo. I highly recommend this place.

Google
Not only was this the best gluten free ramen (fried chicken was the best part) but it was one of the best meals I’ve ever had. So easy to order on the machine outside too. Also amazing regular ramen. You must go if in Tokyo! We came twice in our trip as we were craving it after our first visit!

Yummy, hole in the wall ramen shop. Very good food with gluten free and vegan options. Order from the machine outside with IC card or cash only. No credit card.

Google
I found this place due to a gluten free group recommendation. I can not believe what I am eating right now (yes, so delicious it’s worthy of an immediate review). The miso broth with pork and divine fried chicken really hit the spot after a long cold day. I hope to come again before I leave!

Google
This placed saved my Tokyo trip. Amazing gluten free options, so tasty. I had spicy miso ramen , gyoza and fried chicken between 2 visits - loved it. Wish they had a gluten free egg for the ramen though

Google
Pretty tight ramen restaurant, but there is an upstairs area with about 12 spots. We got seated upstairs and had to serve ourselves the water. The miso ramen had decent flavour, and the egg was cooked well. I personally found the pork to be dry.

Yelp
My favorite and convenient for us. Service is fast and there is a 40 Minute limit to lingering there. I've tried the salt and spicy ramen w fried chicken. so good. There is a second fl. Thought it still just seat 10-12 per floor For allergy info https://samurai-noodle.jp/data/allergy02.pdf

Yelp
We were lucky enough to find this GF ramen, gyoza, and fried chicken gem! You need to order and pay for your meal from the self service kiosk prior to being serviced. Many casual restaurants in Japan operate on this self service kiosk technology. This self service kiosk happened to be easier to use than one of the other kiosk that we tried elsewhere since it has an option for English and the touch screen is very easy and intuitive to use! Once you're done ordering and paying, the kiosk spits out your receipt and ticket order. You just walk right into the restaurant and are greeted by the cooks. They'll ask you to hand them your ordering ticket and show you to your seat as you wait in exciting anticipation for your succulent meal! I can only speak for the GF ramen, gyoza, and fried chicken. Compared to NON GF ramen and gyoza, the GF options were not as delish and tasty, but it was pretty good for being GF. The ramen flavor was good, but I wasn't a fan of their ramen noodles. It was very soggy and had a strange taste to it. The gyoza was bland and didn't have much flavor as well, and it wasn't as crispy as NON GF gyoza. My favorite was definitely the fried chicken! Whether you're GF or NOT and have an urge for fried chicken, this is the place to be! Their GF fried chicken was so crispy and tasty, it almost broke off my tooth! Well, not really, but it was damn crispy and scrumptious!

Yelp
I went to this restaurant for lunch and ordered some dipping noodles. The food arrived quickly and the service was great, even though we were seated on the second floor. This was my first time trying authentic dipping noodles in Japan, and they definitely lived up to the hype. If you've never had dipping noodles before, they're almost the same as regular ramen, except that the noodles don't get soggy over time and the broth is extra rich and hot. The combination of dipping fresh noodles into a hot, batter-like consistency is so delicious! The restaurant has an excellent gluten-free and vegan menu, making it perfect for both non-vegan and vegan enthusiasts.

Yelp
The gluten free ramen was delicious and filling. The toppings were varied and provided a nice touch to the flavorful base soup. The gluten free potstickers were amazing! The other ramen (regular salt, soy sauce, and miso) were also very gold! Ordering is easy on the outdoor kiosk. Ambiance was pleasant. It's a narrow restaurant with a small lower and upper floor. Service was decent.

Yelp
Shinbu Sakiya is a traditional ramen shop that centers its influences from Hokkaido, which is known for their butter-corn miso and seafood ramen varieties. A friend had recommended this spot since they had clearly marked vegan options, and I was still on my search for my favorite vegan ramen in town. Ordering is made easy outside using the kiosk. There are a few vegan ramen options available including a gluten-free option which is quite inclusive to see in Japan! You're able to select salt, miso, or soy sauce broth (as normal in many ramen shops) as well as the size if you're feeling hungrier. I ordered the vegan Spicy Miso Ramen (¥1250), which came topped with bamboo shoots, corn, green onions, and a single tomato for color. The noodles and broth were quite good and I'll admit, the spicy level was closer to my liking than most spots in Japan. However, the ramen itself really wasn't anything special aside from the broth. The toppings were vegan for sure, but there were no added protein like tofu or mushrooms. If they offered vegan butter to help recreate that Hokkaido specialty, that would have been a welcome addition and would have made this feel a little more special. Considering the higher pricing for ramen, I'd probably skip this the next time, but points for the option and the traditional shop atmosphere inside.

Yelp
This shop is well worth braving the crowds of Shibuya for. It's one of the few places to get vegetarian, vegan, halal AND low carb ramen/tsukemen. You order at a kiosk outside the shop. Make sure that you do one ticket per order! I can't wait to come back here and try all the vegetarian combos.
