Sho Omakase - Review - Old Town - Chicago - The Infatuation

"Chicago is on an omakase openings roll—this time with a new spot in Old Town. Sho Omakase leans on the more modern side of the sushi tasting spectrum. The $149, 10-course meal includes milk bread grilled cheese, corn cream croquettes, and handrolls dipped in sauces and topped with cotton candy. We haven’t been here yet, but want you to know this spot exists. RESERVE A TABLE WITH RESERVE A TABLE" - John Ringor

It was an amazing experience for me and my family. The dishes are all which you can never get neither in Japan nor in the US. The SHO is so much more than Omakase Sushi. The food quality as well as creativity and presentation all is so much more than you can expect at any other restaurants. You can feel the passion of the chef, Mari, in each dish. The service with real hospitality is beyond the expectation. The selections of wine and sake were also exceptional. This is definitely the restaurant where you would reserve when you want a special night.

The food, service and experience was amazing! All of the food was extremely tasty and creative. I found each dish to be as special as the previous one. It was awesome to watch and chat with all of the chefs. I would highly recommend this spot to anyone looking for an incredible omakase expierences!

My first omakase might ruin me for future omakases. From the welcome cocktail to the final bite, everything was incredible. The staff is knowledgeable, the space is unique and super cute, and chefs Mari and Adam have created delicious dishes presented beautifully. I would highly recommend!

Just opened yesterday! Such a cool vibe and love the music theme/ decor. Inventive omakase with a modern twist. My favorites were the Japanese egg salad, bluefin tuna crudo (must eat with the leaf), chawanmushi with truffled dashi and caviar (umami bomb!), the handrolls (especially the wagyu with the egg pudding and cotton candy) and the udon noodles had a tonkatsu broth which had lots of depth in flavor! Service was excellent and Preston, the GM is so personable. Chef Mari and Adam and their team should be proud. Check it out!

Had such a great experience at Sho! I highly recommend the sake pairings-the GM and Somm was so knowledgeable and I learned a lot about the beverage pairings. The dishes were equally delicious and unique-as always I’m highly impressed with Mari and Adam!

Absolutely fantastic and a wonderful addition to the Chicago omakase scene. Not just beautifully sliced fish — a bit of everything, all quality ingredients well handled. Beautiful room, attentive service and front row views to the preparations. Front line waiting area and welcome cocktail by creative mixologist Pepe was a nice surprise. A variety of beverage pairing options and a la carte drink service round out the offerings and really complement the food. I recommend the mixed wine and sake pairing. Some really interesting sake styles offered.

Exciting Japanese fusion omakase in the best tradition of contemporary style kaiseki meals one gets in Kyoto, etc. Don’t expect 12 courses of standard plain sushi but instead expect a variety of unique Japanese fusion dishes based around fresh ingredients presented in artful and absolutely beautiful ways, and yes many of the dishes are a variety of types of sushi. There wasn’t a dish among the 12 courses that we didn’t absolutely love. We also did the sake tasting course and that blew us away with the complexity and flavors of the sake (something we almost never really drink) and it was well presented and explained by their sommelier. Sit at the large open and absolutely gorgeous and cool sushi bar seating area and you can see the chefs prepare you dishes, something we’ve also enjoyed in Japan. We recognized several of the chef staff from the former Michelin star Chicago spot Yugen so it’s pretty cool to sit and eat your omakase and still interact with chefs of this level. Not your everyday dining experience! All in all a unique and delicious experience. $145 p/p for the 12 courses keeps it within reason too. We had recently spent $225 p/p at Schwa for a similar amount of courses and we preferred the experience at Sho overall far better.
