The 18 Essential Brunch Destinations in Los Angeles

"The Bar at Short Stories Hotel’s brunch menu is small but mighty. The operators here took the time to perfect classic brunch dishes like crispy-edged waffles, French toast with vanilla custard and peaches, and an omelet with broccolini and cheddar. The bottomless mimosas come with the choice of orange, pomegranate, or passion fruit, while bloody marys are made tableside with bacon perched right on top." - Eater Staff

The West Hollywood Lunch Guide

"Located in the Fairfax boutique hotel of the same name, Short Stories might have the most tranquil patio in Weho right now. The lush courtyard is filled with fluffy white banquettes, wicker chairs, bushes of blooming flowers, and several full-grown trees for good measure. Most importantly, this place is still a bit of a secret, so you can usually walk right in and have the place to yourself. The lunch menu is small, but useful, with a couple of different salads, a house burger, and a section dedicated to various rice and quinoa bowls.  " - brant cox

Short Stories - Review - Fairfax - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"There’s no shortage of hotel restaurants in LA, and one of the latest is Short Stories, a new Latin American spot located in a Fairfax boutique hotel of the same name. Run by the chef behind Picca and Rosaline, Short Stories serves dishes like Peruvian market potatoes covered in Huancaina cheese sauce, and media luna tacos on freshly made blue corn tortillas. There’s of course a gorgeous courtyard patio, filled with fluffy white couches, bubbling fountains, and bushes of blooming flowers—wear a whimsical dress and the smallest sunglasses you can find." - Kat Hong

"Ricardo Zarate is one of LA’s most celebrated South American chefs, known for projects like Rosaline on Melrose and (previously) Picca in West LA. Now he’s hitting the Fairfax area with a new project called Short Stories that will open at 115 S. Fairfax Avenue as part of a flip of the former Farmer’s Daughter boutique hotel. Per the LA Times, Zarate will offer dishes like halibut tiraditos and avocado arepas, starting with dinner only in February and moving into all-day service in the spring." - Farley Elliott

Nice tranquil feel. It offered a good base for a our 3 days sightseeing. Bar was nice for an evening drink. Location was fantastic. Bar staff and cleaning staff so friendly along with the Night reception staff. Day reception staff not friendly at all, didn’t welcome us or say hello when we arrived just looked at us and we said we are here to check in, which was pretty obvious as we were lugging suitcases. We did then, half way through check in ask us if we’d like a welcome glass of Prosecco. They never once after that acknowledged us as we came in and out throughout the day which I found odd. Overall though if you are looking for a central base for a stay in LA which feels safe and close to restaurant etc you cannot go wrong

Google
10/10 experience - we will remember forever! The location of the hotel is wonderful, close to many shops, famous sights, and restaurants - most of which are walking distance! All of the hotel staff are very helpful, kind, and lovely. The rooms are homey, clean, and really comfortable!

Google
We had a wonderful stay. Almost perfect. The rooms, staff, restaurant, ambiance and location were terrific. The restaurant/bar has outstanding food and service. Absolutely delicious. Only downside was hard mattress, lumpy pillows and extremely weak morning coffee. That said we would stay here again.

Google
Cute, boutiquey vibes in what seemed like a renovated motel. Location fantastic for shopping and Farmer's Market, etc. Lots of stylish books to thumb through in my room. Bed was big, linens felt "ok". Deal breaker for me was the strong fragrant detergent smell in the bedding, very overpowering. I placed a towel over my pillow to mute the smell, but it was still strong and overpowering. Maybe someone used too much detergent that time, but it definitely was my takeaway from this stay. If you're sensitive to strong smelling commercial detergents this may be a tip for you.|Other than that, clean hotel, and cute decor. ||Parking seemed expensive ($45), so I found street parking within a few blocks, but did have to move it a couple of times. Not a big deal at all. The free coffee was very basic so I got a coffee outside of the hotel.

Google
We loved our stayed at Short Stories and would highly recommend. Location was perfect, the Grove Farmers Market is over the road with great food and drink options for reasonable prices. We are walkers, and we managed to walk from the Hollywood sign to the walk of fame stopping off at multiple instagram food spots along the way back to the hotel, we felt safe the whole time. Hotel was quiet, bed was comfortable, great amenities, especially enjoyed the robes. The turn down service was a nice surprise along with the free drinks voucher.

Google
My room had an ascetic visual appeal. While feeling a little crowded, studio apartment-ish. The service is adequate. It doesn't seem like anybody's thrilled you're staying there. The overall feeling is your presence is being tolerated. At least from the looks received from staffmembers. The pool is small but usable. Kind of cluttered in, difficult to find privacy. And sunlight to find access at times. All in all, a perfectly adequate place to stay if you want to spend $350 a night rather than $500 at a nice hotel. The location is premier. The Grove, The Farmer's Market. I could stay for three months in that position.

Google
Stayed here with my daughter for a few days while visiting LA in March. The location is super convenient with The Grove and Farmers Market along with a huge park with playground all within close walking distance. Lots of restaurants in the area, just keep in mind lots of cashless places in this area. The restaurant in this hotel has decent food, service was great here. On the weekend there was a live DJ at the bar until about 9pm just tons of people hanging out in the courtyard having a good time. Room was comfy and clean and I love the stone countertops and tables, all the decor tastefully done. We had a very nice stay here, would definitely come back.

Google
One of my favorite stays in LA. The courtyard is dreamy, rooms are clean and comfortable, staff are very friendly. Location is incredible. Only mark against it is parking in the neighborhood is a no-go.

Yelp
What a lovely place to have happy hour. It's every day as far as I can tell, and it's pretty awesome! I've been here quite a few times over the last year and our waiter Andrew has been great! Always attentive and not intrusive. Need separate checks for a group? Yeah this is the place for you at happy hour. Drinks at HH are around $10, and they are perfect . Shout out to the bartender too! Small menu for HH, but included a burger ($10) and fries which are the best! The patio is so nice and they have heaters if you get cold. There is also indoor seating. Highly recommend and I hope you get Andrew as your server!

Yelp
THE LONG AND SHORT OF HAPPY HOUR Never would have discovered this hidden gem if someone hadn't organized a meeting here during Happy Hour. What a beautiful enclosed patio, which we practically had to ourselves! Service was attentive, but be forewarned, it's cashless! I ordered a Daiquiri ($8), which didn't taste right. I thought it was just me until another member of our group ordered one and said the same thing. She sent hers back, but I had already consumed half of mine. Fortunately, the calamari ($10) with smoked salt and piquillo marinara was fantastic! So were the frites ($5) with umami seasoning and truffle oil. To make a long story short, I'll return for the stellar ambiance and the reasonably priced Happy Hour.

Yelp
I was in town visiting for a friend's baby shower and she suggested it since it was close to where the activities were located. To be honest, I did not feel safe staying here traveling solo. I was in a room where you could see where I was staying from the restaurant which was right next to the elevator. The front desk staff seemed annoyed anytime I asked a question, which I found surprising. The rooms were small, but you don't really need much other than a bed and a shower but it still felt cramped somehow. The restaurant however was AMAZING!! The food was incredible and the ambiance was delightful. The staff could not have been kinder at the restaurant offering great suggestions for meals and cocktails.

Yelp
Such a lovely, quaint hotel. An oasis in the middle of all the city of angels offers. Great staff and attention to detail. Right accross from the farmers market, just down from great museums (LACMA and the Academy of Motion Pictures). Has a sweet bar and patio too.

Anja T.

Yelp
The restaurant bar at this hotel has become a local favorite for happy hour! The cozy yet chill vibe on the heated patio is perfect for connecting with friends. The music selection is on point and the drinks are top-notch. I've been here several times with a large group, and every visit has been a great success. The fries and burgers are always delicious, and the service is amazing- special shoutout to Andrew, our server, who always has a fantastic attitude and remembers every order and special request. On this trip, he was training Ben, who was equally friendly and attentive. This review is long overdue, but if you are looking for a great spot to hang out, this bar is the place!

Yelp
I've been staying at this location for years and really like what they have done with the hotel. The rooms have great amenities and are very comfortable. I love the little perks when you check in and the restaurant credit is a nice touch. My only complaint is the "Resort fee". I find it to jut be a price gouge and at least the old place had bikes to ride, yoga classes and a restaurant open all day and into the evening. The staff is friendly and it is a beautiful little gem in the heart of LA. Wish you would get rid of the resort fee.

Yelp
I'm at a large group in the restaurant. Really nice atmosphere. Happy hour hamburger was $10 and absolutely amazing! I want to go back and try the happy hour calamari and french fries!

Yelp
Amazingly nice place across from the farmers market, walking distance from the Peterson and Academy museums.

Yelp
So let's start with the roses - the rooms were clean and well decorated, the location is fantastic and the morning coffee was very good. The safe didn't work so they sent out the repairman who was also lovely. And the valets were also all top notch - great, helpful people. Also the rooms are very quiet - super amazing comfy beds. Also, because they have valet and use the parking lot to valet cars, the whole space is very safe and secure. No weirdos hanging outside your room. And the wi-fi was good - we needed it for work and it was reliable. For all of these reasons, this hotel is definitely worth 4 stars. Now the thorns - there are no garbage cans in the room apart from the small one in the bathroom. Which is odd. And none in the lobby. Or in the parking lot. Or right outside the valet. I had walk farther down the street to find one. Some Yelpers and Trip Advisor reviews have really swooned over the front desk service - and that wasn't my experience. Everyone's functionally doing their job but didn't get any over the top warmth face to face - and I wouldn't have expected more aside from all the crazy positive reviews. We got two rooms in the south building - one junior suite king (which is just like the double room, except a king bed and a couch and table instead of two double beds) and a double room next door. Double rooms are two double beds - and that is not two queens. Small. So we needed more bed space for our two kids and myself and husband. Mosiah, the assistant hotel manager, was very helpful in arranging the king room last minute for us, and ensured it would be next-door. I liked the south building - yes, you have to cross the restaurant and the parking lot to get to it, but it's also more removed from the hustle and bustle of the Netflix Bites restaurant. (We ate there and loved it - will post a restaurant review shortly!) Lastly, just want to mention there were no pastries. Some Yelpers mentioned pastries and there weren't any when I checked in the morning. To be fair, the front desk never promised them so it's fine but wanted to clear up that rumor.

Yelp
I have to say this hotel pleasantly surprised me. When going on vacation I tend to dislike big hotels with multiple elevators that don't feel personable. It's a small hotel, there is Valet parking which I found to be very quick and friendly and they do also take care of the cars nicely. I loved that they were able to check me in when I arrived although I was a tad early. The lobby and outdoor seating area are absolutely stunning, the aesthetic was on point. Did not use the pool but it looked like a decent and clean pool. The restaurant/bar was only open for dinner from what I understood but I only had a drink there which was decent. There is ample food around this location with the Farmers Market being right across the street. With that being said the location was one of my favorite parts of my stay here. So much within walking distance. The Grove and Farmers Market across the street and an Erewhon around the corner as well as multiple coffee shops. What stood out to me is how meticulously clean they kept the grounds and the rooms. It is spotless! Highly recommend this hotel.

Yelp
Such a great find! We like to do weekend getaways, and I LOVE boutique hotels! I didn't feel like being in a car for hours, so I looked in the LA area for a hotel that was central to all we wanted to do...eat good food, mostly! So, we decided to take a chance on Short Stories, and we were pleasantly surprised. Our room was trendy, the bed was super comfy. There was banquette seating with a marble table, that you'd never see in a hotel room, but it was pretty! I usually take pics of our room upon arrival, but we wanted to take a stroll around the Grove and have a cocktail before dinner, so we got changed and left! We didn't have a meal here, but we did have night caps, and snacks in the bar. The front desk told us that the bar usually closes at 10pm, but they could ask the bartender to stay later. No need! We made it a point to get back before closing, and we were so glad we did! XAVIER was the perfect bartender. I couldn't decide what I wanted, so he asked what I liked in a cocktail and he made me a custom one! The staff here are so pleasant and friendly. And, the watermelon lemonade (non-alcoholic) was a sweet touch.

Yelp
All in this hotel was great, clean rooms and very comfortable bed, the customers service from the staff was great, good ambiance at the bar area and patio too.

Yelp
Mediocre hotel in a neighborhood that has not recovered from the pandemic. The restaurant is no longer offering breakfast and they charge a $25 "amenity fee" that is poorly documented when booking. We stayed here in Dec 2022 and it was much better than our recent stay in 2023. Lots of other properties in the area.
google avatar

Yelp
My review is about the restaurant and bar. Me and a friend checked out Short Stories for drinks and a lite bite. We got there about 15 mins before the restaurant opened but the hotel staff was nice enough to let us have a HH beverage. One the restaurant opened the stag was super nice and welcoming. The cocktails were delicious. Decor was also cute. The food wasn't amazing but it was okay. We had the olives and bread, shishito peppers, and calamari. Also the menu is very small. So don't come hungry. Overall I would be back for drinks.

Yelp
Part of the trend of bygone motels converted to boutique hotels, Short Stories is a nice conversion from the previous Farmer's Daughter Hotel which occupied the property. Going for a retro-mid-century modern style which fits the location better. It's relatively new and they seem to be still working out kinks, so I hope they get into full swing as it has potential to be an established destination. Location: Right across from the Grove and Fairfax district, the location is hard to beat if you want to check out this section of LA. Shopping, restaurants, and markets are nearby for convenience and other parts of the LA area reasonable distances away. Good fun option if you're looking to find a place to stay near Cedar-Sinai Hospital if you want something more than a sterile Marriott. Common Areas: Inviting courtyard with great ambient lighting and seating which actually make you want to hang out there. Pool was small and enclosed which seems to make it limited to hang out at (November weather doesn't make it appealing either). There's a bar/restaurant attached to the courtyard that seems to be a nice venue to host events or company parties (both which happened during my stay). Rooms: Jr. King Suites are located in the South Building (which is located across an enclosed parking lot part of the property) which make the rooms a bit quieter since it's further from the courtyard and bar/restaurant. However, even though we were furthest from the street, it's off of Fairfax so the traffic (from confused race car drivers) and pedestrian noise will always be present. Beds are comfortable, rooms have a design aesthetic to them and table height in the Jr. suites is appreciated compared to the typical coffee table you might find in a comparable suite. The oddest part of the rooms are the toilets, which are the commercial style that you find in a mall or stadium. Takes away from the ambiance, especially when you flush (or hear your neighbors flush). At least you don't really have to worry about clogs with all that suction... The most pleasant surprise are the amount of interesting art books scattered throughout the room. I could spend the day just going through all of them. Service: Seemed average where I didn't get the feeling anyone was going out of their way but also they were attentive enough where I didn't feel ignored. Parking is valet only and is $45/night with in and out privileges. There's a $25 amenities fee per night. Another review mentioned the lack of trashcans around and that is true. Food: Tried some of the dishes from the hotel bar/restaurant - which used to be occupied by the pop-up Netflix Bites. Now called "the Bar", they seem to be getting adjusted as even the phones in the rooms end up dialing the Netflix Bites automation service instead of ringing the restaurant to order. (You have to call the front desk to order). Menu items are clean and tasty (see my photos). With so many food options nearby, it's not a destination restaurant, but if you wanted to have something solid to eat, then it's a good option. Looks like they have some great cocktails offered there so it could be a nice spot to grab a drink. Value: Taking into consideration of my 2 night stay, it was nice. For the location and the price it's a good option if you're looking for a place to stay in this part of LA (smashed between cheaper Ktown or pricey Beverly Hills). I think as they find their groove and pay attention to details, they have the potential to be an establishment amongst the boutique hotels that are sprinkled throughout LA.

Yelp
Most hotels in this area are boutique hotels. I'm glad to find this place. It's across from the Farmer's Market and near Cedars Sinai, West Hollywood and Beverly Hills. I like this hotel: it's clean, staff are nice, and the location is convenient. Fyi, they charge a $29 amenities fee
google avatar

Yelp
We stayed here in May for our daughter's Law School graduation from USC. She lives locally so we were pleased to stay at such a cute boutique hotel. Room was perfect, well kept by the maid service we had (envelope in room said Anna, although we never met here, the room was extremely clean) Bed very comfortable, grounds exactly as pictured, no smoke and mirrors here! Check in was simple and they knew we were in for our daughter graduation so the next day we had a congratulatory card, balloon, fresh baked cookies (what a surprise and very sweet) Spent a lot of time at bar/restaurant and the people were so welcoming. Bartender Jeremy and server Kat made the experience perfect. Chef made some amazing tidbits. LOVE their bread, Broccolini with lemon and toasted breadcrumbs just to name a few. Right across from the framers market and an iconic breakfast spot DuPars (fabulous). next to farmers market is the Grove also an Iconic spot. Great experience throughout. Will definitely stay here when we visit our daughter in the future.

Yelp
Such a charming hotel in the Fairfax/Farmer's market neighborhood. I came here for an event, and didn't stay at the hotel or used the pool, but I will say given the location, it is a really well done hotel. The ambiance of this area is great and would recommend for anyone staying in the LA area as a tourist! I had a few light bites, and although it wasn't anything to write home about, I will say that they were pretty tasty! Because of its location, if you do decide to come here, you will have to pay for Valet. Again, this hotel is a prime location to stay at if you're looking for a place to stay in LA. It's right across the street from the farmer's market/The Grove area, and you won't run out of things to do here!

Yelp
I was originally thinking of staying downtown while in LA, but changed my plans to Short Stories mostly because of the convenience for me to walk to my office in LA while also being in a safer area with a few more things to do. I justified the price by noting that Ubers to/from downtown would effectively neutralize any price increase between comparative hotels. In the end, I made a smart decision 12 times out of 10. I had one of the nicest hotel stays in a long while. There's a charm about these boutique-ish hotels that you don't find in your average hotels. Don't let the motel-ish look fool you. The rooms are pretty nice on the inside. Quite spacious too with a separate dining/coffee table to eat or just lay back. The shower was pretty good and it helped that the sink was outside the room (especially if you're here as a couple). Rooms were pretty quiet and I didn't have any issue with noise while here, especially since the bar closes relatively early here. Only blemish could be that it would be good to have an extra trash can, but that's it. As for the restaurant/bar, that was one of the best things for me. There was plenty of outdoor space for me to get some work done outside. The heat lamps also make it comfy during the chillier nights. The bar was special though. I was there early enough when bartenders were still working on their cocktail menu. This is a fairly new group of people, so they're working on some of the finer details as they go. However, I give them a shout out because they were super nice and I enjoyed my time there. Also, I got to try out some of their cocktails (hi - spicy margarita cocktail!) and the people in town will love it! Overall, I had a great time here. Spent a little extra, but it was so worth the money and the extra convenience. The Grove, Trader Joe's, Whole Foods, CVS, and my office were all nearby and WeHo/Beverly Hills weren't too far away via scooter, walk, or short Uber/Lyft.

Yelp
We stayed here for one night while in town for a taping of The Price is Right. The hotel is literally across the street from the CBS studio so you couldn't find a better location. Parking was $45 for the night which isn't bad for the area. Our room was located on the third story overlooking the restaurant and the grove. Overall the room was pretty quiet especially considering we were in the middle of Hollywood. The room had a nice little table and seating area which was nice to have breakfast at. The bed was really comfortable with nice linens. Bathroom had everything we needed and decent size shower. When we checked out they were able to hold our bags until we were ready to leave later in the day. Overall an enjoyable stay!

Yelp
Excellent bar bistro food across from the Grove on Fairfax avenue. I had the medium rare burger with white cheddar, romesco aioli and beautiful buns after sampling the perfectly cooked calamari with dipping sauces and the broccolini, grilled and coated with garlic bread crumbs. The bowl of seasoned frites was dauntingly large but I managed to finish every last one! My sweetie had seared salmon over an arugula, goat cheese, pine nut salad with yuzo dressing which she loved. The salmon was generous and perfectly cooked--moist and pink. The finale were two desserts we shared--a rich and luxurious dark chocolate lava cake with strawberries that oozed with flavor and a bread pudding with amazing carmelized bananas, vanilla ice cream and a rum sauce to pour over the square of pudding and ice cream. We paired our food with lively herbaceous mock tails that were a blend of tonic and complex flavors, with a sprig of rosemary. They were excellent and a great stand in for higher octane drinks. Lastly, the inside and outside seatings are beautiful. Loved the open ceiling but sat inside on a cool night. From the bartender Jeremy to the table host Cat, the service was warm, personable, and knowledgeable about the offerings, attentive but not cloying or upselling. I am from the sf Bay Area and accustomed to excellent food, drink and service at a high level. Short Stories hits the mark. PS-came back for the brunch recently and had three great dishes, pictured below.

Yelp
If I'm being completely honest, I wasn't expecting this hotel to be very nice. We drive by it all the time and have been intrigued by the price. I thought it was probably going to have tiny rooms with a cheaply done aesthetic makeover. I'm glad we decided to give this place a try because there's definitely more to this hotel than what you can see online. The rooms were clean, stylish, and spacious. There was a cute lounge area on our floor overlooking the pool for a projector movie night. Most of the time it looked like there was only one person working at the desk, so if you need something, there might be a little wait. Especially since it seems at certain hours they are also in charge of services that take them away from the desk leaving a "will return shortly" sign. Overall service was great, staff was friendly and I loved the overall vibe and style. Walking distance to the Grove, Trader Joe's, Mendocino Farms, and Mercado. The restaurant downstairs is great too. As long as they're not filming an episode of Selling Sunset, you should expect amazing cocktails, decent service and a yummy meal. Great value, I would stay again & recommend to friends.

Yelp
I'd think twice about returning, and if this was my onlu option, I'd ask lots of questions at check in. No hot water and crappy coffee, but at least the coffee was hot. First, I booked the night before and assumed there was lots of vacancy, so not sure why I was given the room across from the 1st floor elevator. I was spending one night at the hotel and decided not to complain about it. But I second guessed not asking for another room when I was woken up by guests using the elevator at 2am. There was no hot water in the morning to shower, but didn't know that because I wasn't told at check in, nor was I sent a note under my door. I ran the cold water for easily 8min before giving up. When I checked out and complained about the water, she told me they knew about it the night before. This hotel might be conveniently located and in the heart of Los Angeles/Hollywood, but I'd look elsewhere. I've stayed here many times as the Farmers Daughter, but I doubt I'll ever return to Short Stories.

Yelp
My brother and I had a wonderful stay - everyone from the front desk to the valets to the servers to the cleaning staff were lovely and welcoming. In our many trips to Los Angeles, we've stayed East, West, downtown, Koreatown, wherever you could think of, but you just can't beat the location of the Short Stories! To be able to start the day by walking five minutes to Jon & Vinny's or Cofax or Canter's for breakfast? Perfection. To be in the center of town and have our car parked with us at the hotel so we could move at a second's notice? So ideal. And to have the most peaceful night's sleep right in the middle of Los Angeles? Who could ask for more. We were at ease and at home in every way and we're so grateful.

Yelp
Although the hotel and quaint and well kept, they are going to kill you with hidden fees and taxes you can't find out about until you get there. By then it's too late to get another hotel. They even tax the exorbitant 45 dollar fee you are charged to park your car in the tiny and I mean tiny lot. So you really end up paying 54 dollars a day to simply park your car at not a major but a boutique hotel. An amenity fee and then a tax on the amenity fee. Additional fees and taxes at this small place turned. $473 bill into a $706 dollar bill. Cute place but not $700 cute in fees and taxes!

Yelp
I stayed here last week post-surgery and I couldn't have had a better experience. I was obviously super uncomfortable, but the entire staff was delightful and even with a huge wrap on my head everyone greeted me with a smile and lovely demeanor. Angela in particular was so helpful the night I needed it most, as my partner asked for 5 extra pillows and to heat up soup (we brought from home) for me in a microwave at the restaurant/bar and no questions were asked- just excellent and speedy service. She was kind, professional, and genuine. The entire staff was! Not to mention the rooms were so fun with their Art Deco inspired design. Beds were comfy, and the pillows - all 7 of them to keep me propped up - were amazing. Ha! Wish we could've enjoyed more time under the vibey trees, outside dining area and pool, but it was a short stay. We will be back.

Yelp
Amazing hotel and even better staff! The rooms a chic and comfortable. The location is convenient to the area. But the biggest value is its people. SUPER helpful, friendly, service-oriented staff. When my 3rd party booking site made a mistake, they bent over backward to make every accommodation to make my family and me comfortable in a room that worked for us. I am a frequent traveler. I've never been this blown away by an experience - and turning a potentially bad experience into a win. I will DEFINITELY be back when I visit next.

Yelp
This was originally farmers daughter a bit ago and has had a complete Rennisance since this last property. They have a phenomenal happy hour and a kind staff. I cannot wait to return and try the food in their Lucious pink bar area. They're outs piazza is straight out of a magazine and s shaped light turquoise lobby sofa is definitely something to swoon on.

Yelp
Such a cute hotel, it was close to the bars and a cheap Uber ride away from the clubs. Hospitality was incredible. Rooms were really cute for a girls night out in LA

Yelp
We recently rented out the entire hotel for our daughter and son-in-law's wedding weekend. The setting was fantastic, and the wonderful staff helped bring the couple's ideas to life. We were able to utilize the parking lot on Friday for games, pickleball and a food truck, while Saturday allowed guests to roam freely and enjoy all this fabulous location has to offer which includes the Farmer's Market and the Grove right across the street. The ceremony and reception were Saturday evening with the after party on-site in their restaurant. Speaking of restaurant, the food was amazing, even down to the breakfast burritos served Sunday morning. My husband and I will come back, as we live locally, just to enjoy another meal here. Our guests have not stopped complimenting our great taste in the venue selection and the wonderful staff at Short Stories. Take a look at the pics from Syd and Zac's event on their Instagram. I would totally recommend a stay at this quaint hotel, and If you are looking to book a wedding weekend, don't hesitate as it will be one of the best decisions you'll make.

Yelp
Adorable boutique hotel. You can tell it was recently renovated and they did well. This is the closest hotel to The Grove which is literally right across the street. If you know the area, forget about parking. It's nearly impossible, especially for overnight. The closest legal overnight street parking is about a 1.5 mile walk. They charge $40 per night to park at the hotel which we did and felt that was a bit steep. Valet only. I live in California but stayed here during a business trip. The rooms are on the smaller side. Mid century modern design, comfy beds. We didn't have a view at all from the window and the shower curb in our room was sloped in the wrong direction which caused the bathroom to flood every time we took a shower. It was kind of annoying. Overall a great stay!

Yelp
I came in tonight to grab a drink at the bar and I was thoroughly impressed. The wine list was beautiful and the food was amazing. I tried the Portuguese white and the cucumbers, broccolini, and fries and they were so so so yummy! But the best was the service. The bartender Jeremy and server Kat were warm, welcoming, and kind. Superstar staff and chef! Definitely telling my friends and coming back here!

Yelp
This is a nice little place my aunt booked for us and we got to stay here for 2 nights and enjoy the beautiful weather in california. I was happy to be able to go walking around in LA, the rooms were really cute too and modern. The restaurant was good and the coffee was yum. I don't have a bad thing to say it was really quiet in our room and I was able to sleep really good here. That is important after doing a long road trip I was too tired to do anything else but sleep. Cute rooms!

Yelp
100% staying here again. Clean, comfortable & super charming. Centrally located for our trip (hit Sony studios, Griffith Observatory, Musso & Frank's, etc.) all within 20-25 minutes . Loved that the Original Farmers market was across the street, walking distance to La Brea Tar Pits & if you just wanted to stay in, the courtyard, bar & pool was perfect. We ended up forgetting our garment bag in our room and huge THANK YOU to everyone FOR help getting it shipped back home!

Yelp
I loved this hotel! I have a knack for picking great hotels, and Short Stories did not disappoint. It's obviously gorgeous (check out the photos), but here are some other highlights: -The beds. So. Comfy. I have shoulder and neck pain, and guess what? I got none of it from sleeping on the wonderfully comfy bed. I may call to ask what kind of pillows they use. -The lunch. I got a salmon bowl over green rice at their restaurant and it was pretty much perfect. -The staff. These folks were so amazing. My dog passed away while on this trip, and I wanted to cut my trip short. These guys were so sympathetic and accommodating. Seriously it couldn't have been more comforting. They were so genuine in their condolences and willingness to help me change the pre-paid Expedia reservation. -Location! So easy to walk over to Whole Foods and grab some room snacks. Walking distance to thrift stores and across the street from fancier shopping. Highly recommend!!

Yelp
Great location, still new so it's pretty clean. A few things not so great. Upon arrival the valet is $45/night, pet fee is $150 and then they decided to "upgrade" our room to another building which I think was actually a downgrade. Our room had no garbage can, no place to hang a towel, the worlds smallest round piece of soap and the bed was super sweaty at night. We got all that for $1000 for two nights. After we checked out they emailed me an invoice of the breakdown of fees. And it was just that, an invoice, not even a "thank you" or a "how was you stay?". Pretty sure this place will be falling apart like most flipped hotels. It's nice now but I don't think it is going to last.

Yelp
Writing this review 2 months after my stay but had to remember to do it bc I just can't get over what a dream this hotel is!!! I stayed here for my birthday and could not have had a better experience. The hotel is valet parking only and the gentleman gladly opened my door, loaded my bags on a trolley and brought them inside for me to the front desk and then again to my room after checking in. Upon checking in I was greeted with a complimentary drink and notebook and pen and then was told about all the amenities and weekend events. A big plus for me was that they give you a number to text if you have any need at all. I texted for an iron and it arrived within minutes! On top of the great service the hotel, it truly could not look any better. The aesthetic alone made this one of my favorite hotels ever. It's trendy and modern yet beautiful and homey all at once. The location couldn't be better with The Grove across the street, Trader Joe's next door, and all the must visit Fairfax destinations just down the block. Wish I took more pictures of how cute the room was but I cannot get over my stay here and I can't wait to come back!! Worth every penny!

Yelp
Amazing and super nice boutique hotel right across from the grove! Groovy hip vibe. Restaurant is amazing too. Food was fantastic and the vibe and music created that chill out vibe that made you feel like just hanging out with friends and having a few cocktails. I loved it!

She was beyond helpful, friendly , and made sure we were taken care of. We would definitely recommend to stay here! The hotel is super cute and trendy. Also very clean! It's so close to all the shops and restaurants! If you're looking for a hotel contact short stories! You will be satisfied!

Yelp
This is one of the best hotel stays that my husband and I have had. (And honestly we can be hard to please when it comes to hotels.) The overall ambiance, design, and service were all outstanding. The location was walkable, convenient, and lively. The pool and restaurant were high-quality well-used amenities. The courtyard made me oo and ah every time I walked through it. But it's the small details that made this such a COMFORTABLE stay: the firm mattress, the ample bathroom counter space, the high-pressure water, the detailed book of info/notes, and the dimming lights. We loved these details! My husband slept so much better than he usually sleeps in a hotel, and ultimately a good night's sleep leads to a great vacation!

Yelp
I am amazed by this new spot. I saw this place driving on Fairfax. The staff is simply amazing. The food is so tasteful it is so refreshing it was like so many flavors at the same time to explore. I can't wait to go back and especially have the dish with quinoa and mushroom and the hamachi appetizer. A must go!

Yelp
Actually the hotel was great (room and location) but the front desk "service" was so bad I wanted to flag the review for the manager/owner. When we arrived the man behind the desk was on the phone and as we waited for about 5 minutes he didn't acknowledge us at all - not even eye contact. A woman finally came to the desk and checked us in and it was so unfriendly - just going thru the motions. When I asked about the restaurant she said it was closed on Mondays so when I asked about room service she said the same thing. Come to find out there is no room service! Every time we went in or out the person behind the desk was looking at the screen (or perhaps her phone set up in front of her.) If we got eye contact that was it - barely a smile sometimes but that was it. We felt invisible. the only person who actually said something one time was Christina (I asked her name) and she said "welcome back" when we returned from breakfast. The day after we checked in we were gone the entire day and returned at 5 p.m. but the room hadn't been made up. When we called 0 we were routed to housekeeping to let them know but said it was too late and we didn't want it done. But 5 minutes later two housekeepers knocked on our door but neither of them could speak any English so all we could say was was "no, gracias." When we had a cocktail that night the server couldn't find us in the system and went to the front desk and found out we hadn't been checked in correctly so housekeeping didn't know about our room. Since I'd read several reviews about the great friendly service I was very surprised and disappointed that our experience (stayed 3 nights) was completely different. Please, eye contact, a smile and even a "good morning" or "have a nice day." Also when we asked for a breakfast recommendation neither of the people behind the desk were helpful. What about a list of nearby restaurants?

Yelp
Very nice hotel and great services! This hotel has great location, right cross to the Grove and Farmer's market. I will definitely book here again! Christina at front desk is awesome! She helped us fix the shower door at late night. She also introduced us the fun places to visit around this area. When I got the uber eat delivery, she told me the restaurants around this area don't give utensils anymore and she gave me the hotel ones. She is great!

Yelp
Adorable and simple little hotel. I had a staycation here. The room was cozy and quiet. There is parking and valet too. Highly recommend!
