"Short of booking a flight to Oahu, the closest (and cheapest) way to get a little taste of Hawai’i is by going to Shoyu Sugar. This food trailer is located in a big lot near Anderson Mill and 183 with tons of parking and a few picnic tables out front—there’s not a ton of atmosphere, but you’re here for the food. The menu is small and simple, offering a few Hawaiian classics, like chicken katsu, BBQ short ribs, and (Korean) fried chicken. Everything comes with rice, and the portions are more than generous—we’re usually full from a “mini” for less than $10. You’ll also find weekly specials, like loco moco and furikake salmon, but check their website before heading out. Make sure to save room for some li hing gushers or butter mochi at the end. photo credit: Nicolai McCrary" - Nicolai McCrary

We got the katsu chicken and the short rib plates, they came with Mac salad and rice. The katsu chicken was AMAZING! Portions are pretty big for the price. Definitely recommend getting some of their spicy mayo and their special soy sauce. Would come here more often if it wasn’t too far from me.

Hey honestly it’s the first time that I really have to leave a review, even though I love this place and it’s my favorite food today the disappointment hit me hahaha We always try to be on point and be the first ones in line to get our food, and today 12/27 we got the food and drive back to the house what we normally do to see a movie and try to spend time together.. when I started eating all of it was more grease and bone then meat honestly. I got the number 3, the Kalabi plate the one that I normally get and I didn’t have that issue this bad until today.. I know meat haves grease but basically bones and grease it’s not what I’m paying for to eat.. I just hope yall read this and reconsider what is served I honestly look forward to not seeing this happen again

Shoyu Sugar is an amazing food truck for Korean BBQ lovers. Their dishes are packed with flavor, and everything tastes incredibly fresh. From juicy meats to crisp, every bite is delicious. If you want top-notch Korean BBQ on the go, Sugar Shoyu is definitely worth checking out.

Everything was amazing! Large portion of food. Well worth the cost. Lasted me two meals. Only 2 things I wish: there was a spicer version of the spicy soy sauce, and non-styrofoam to go containers. Styrofoam leaks its chemicals into the food.

Fast! Fantastic breading, sauce is consistent and well flavored without overpowering the food. Definately do not opt out of the Mac salad, you will regret not getting it. Crispy, moist, perfectly breaded chicken! Rice perfectly cooked. Line was 8 deep and I waited 5 minutes or less.

The Hawaiian food at Shoyu sugar is the best in Austin. The loco moco is my favorite and a monthly special. I also think they have the best chicken katsu and some of the best kalbi in Austin. I recommend the red rocks plate when it’s available. The food here is MEAN! and the owners are so nice! And you can’t beat those prices. They also do 1/2 portions of food!

Went today to get another Musubi since they taste amazing, just like back home on Guam but they were a no-show. Board said they open at 5pm on Thursday but it was still closed by 5:10 so I left. Food is delicious and food truck vibes are nice. But don't show up right as they supposed to open, the board might be outdated.

Amazing Hawaiian-style BBQ food truck in NW Austin, you really can't go wrong with anything on their menu. I enjoyed the Korean fried chicken, kalbi, teriyaki chicken, poke nachos, chicken katsu. Everything was so delicious with great blend of Hawaiian and BBQ flavors with the perfect char on the meats. The poke was fresh, I only wish I could have received a bit more fish. They have parking available on site and some outdoor seating as well. They are a family-owned small business - I cannot recommend them enough! They also have daily specials (see their website).
