Yelp
A favorite when I'm in the mood for hot pot in Nashville (aka whenever it gets cold.) There are not that many truly authentic Chinese places in the greater Nashville area and this isn't the best hot pot I've ever had, but it is one of the more authentic ones in this area, with a full build-your-own-sauce bar, which is key to me at a true hot pot restaurant.
I always go for the vegetarian combination platter with herb broth and add a plate of sliced chicken. The veggie combo provides a great selection of a variety of traditional veggie options - different kinds of mushrooms, cabbage, spinach, yubu (tofu skin), corn, taro, white radish, seaweed. It is the perfect, filling amount for two people. I have watched a few folks who have never had hot pot before come and order a bunch of individual items instead of just getting the combination platter, which comes with a great variety of protein and veggies, so please don't make that mistake! You'll end up getting a much better deal, more manageable amount of food, and good variety with the combo platter. For a slight upcharge, I always ask to switch out the rice noodles that come on the combo platter for rice cake deliciousness - highly recommend doing this as the rice cakes are chewy and very pleasant with a good sauce. The herb broth is a bit bland, but that's perfect for me as I use the sauces to jazz it up to my liking and it always turns out perfect. We have tried the spicy broth, but be forewarned that the spicy broth is not for the faint of heart. My mom, who loves spicy food, once got this and it was so spicy it was unbeatable for her - she was practically crying while trying to eat it.
I haven't really done much of the cooked-to-order food here. My mom is convinced that the cashew chicken she got here once gave her food poisoning, but my dad and I have never had that experience. I do want to try the soup dumplings here at some point, because this is one of the few places that serve them. If you are primarily doing hot pot, it's a pretty healthy / dietary restriction friendly meal to have - this is one of my diabetic dad's favorite places to eat out! No reservations needed, easy parking (but keep in mind this is not the safest area and please lock your car.) Attentive service, inexpensive meal, decent Asian beer options - great place to bring a crowd for a unique dining experience.
