What a wonderful, beautiful and elegant 😍 experience. We just had some small bites but we can not wait to have dinner or lunch. We came a bit late but our bartender was the best. Actually everyone behind the bar was fabulous. Thank you! Xoxo ♥️

Google
This is by far one of the nicest places to eat in the area. Unless you want to sit at the bar, make a reservation. The service, ambience, food and speed of food delivery are all outstanding. Come for happy hour 5-6 for really good deals, and Thursday has a martini happy hour from 5-8. This would be a great place for a special event like a birthday or anniversary.

We hadn’t eaten here in awhile, but we decided to give it another try and we really enjoyed it! The charcuterie board is a neat stater choice because you decide what you want on it. The oysters and steak frites were also delicious! Great creative cocktails also and excellent service!

Google
INCREDIBLE. Good food, over 200 bourbon options, incredible and balanced cocktails, great service. We went on a Saturday night and managed to get two seats at the bar. Great atmosphere, comfy high top seats, quick and friendly service. When my partner asked for the bourbon list, the bartender called over another bartender named Ashley who knew everything about every bourbon my partner asked about, and he's basically obsessed. She was great, and I told her what I like in drinks (a little sweet and a lot of sour) and she recommended the Talk To Me Goose, which was one of the best cocktails I've ever had. Super well-balanced. I had the mushrooms with arugula and the potato pancake, it was honestly enough for a meal, but would be a good starter to share. Everyone around us seemed to love what they were eating. Prices seemed very reasonable for the quality and uniqueness of the menu. For two $20 Penelope rare pours, the mushroom starter, my cocktail, and the chocolate Napoleon (so good!!) we spent $81 before tip. The DJ was really, not overbearing, got the vibe just right. I don't review a lot, but I think this place deserves the shout out! Far exceeded expectations. Would recommend!

Google
Great friendly bartenders and staff. Terrific whiskey list. Pretzel app delicious, especially the cheese sauce that comes with, French onion dip with caviar was also great. The seafood tower was average… oysters were sitting on rock salt instead of ice so oysters were room temp, shrimp did taste like they brought them in precooked and not cooked in house. Overall a good experience and would definitely go back again.

Google
I liked the food, atmosphere, and service but everything was so expensive. They have a large drink list but I didn’t think there were enough options that were basic for non-adventurous folks (me). The bathrooms were immaculate. I wouldn’t come back solely because it’s so expensive but richy rich people would most likely enjoy this place.

Google
Food quality/ price (value) rating 9.5. The atmosphere is contemporary eclectic chic. The menu is innovative and unusual, with several unique twists. The signature cocktail list is filled with exciting and original creations, including my favorite "Queenpin", invented by bartender Gabriel, that is garnished with a sprinkle of mixed dried flowers which add to the beautiful presentation and accents the flavors of the libation. For an entree, I had the Cotes De Porc, a double cut pork chop with collard greens, corn puree, fois gras, and veal demi. A very creative and delicious offering. The wife had the Scallops au Citron, a highly unusaul mix of ingredients (see the menu) that she described as a "delicacy". We split a "Baba ah Rhum" dessert, also an unusual creation by a talented chef. The prices were reasonable for the type of restaurant and quality of the food. We sat at the bar, where the service by Gabriel was fantastic. The bar area was filled with couples enjoying each others company, and the crowd was sociable and friendly, and mostly Boomers.. This place is a great date venue, they have a happy hour type of special, and have live entertainment, typically a D.J., once a week. Highly recommended.

Google
We were just passing through Roanoke, an overnight on our way to Raleigh, when we stopped. The place was hopping so we sat at the bar to eat and drink. This place was a great choice. Terrific atmosphere, the bartender was attentive and good at his job - I can recommend the white linen cocktail if you're a gin drinker! But the food was the high point. Small plates are always a good choice for us since we like to sample things. We had oysters, duck pastrami, scallops, a funky salad (funky good) and the mushroom dish. All were excellent.

Yelp
This charming European-style eatery located in downtown Roanoke is one of my favorite restaurants there. It first opened its door on February 20th, 2020, and since then has been offering an intimate and upscale Gastropub experience. Last year I had the privilege of dining there for the first time on one of their Neighborhood Nights with a 3 course Menu Special. I invite you to go back and read that review as well and view my photographs complimenting it. After being awarded the Triad Yelper of the Year 2024 Award at the Yelpies Award Ceremony last year, an event that honored the highest-performing Yelp Elites, I decided that it would be appropriate this year to go back to this restaurant and write a follow-up review, since my initial review was one of my reviews that contributed to me obtaining this highly esteemed Award. So this Wednesday, when their Neighborhood Night 3 course Menu Special featured Gazpacho, a classic cold Spanish soup that originated in Andalusia, Spain, I decided to go dine there once more and do a follow-up review. Andalusian cuisine, is deeply influenced by the region's rich history and diverse culinary traditions, reflecting the influences of its diverse past, including Moorish, Christian, and Jewish traditions. My deep Spanish roots with grandparents from both Asturian and Catalunyan ancestry, and having visited Spain and having had Gazpacho there, makes me very curious to try it here in Roanoke, Virginia, from the Chef of Sidecar Restaurant, that in the past has surprised me with samples of exquisite cuisines. After making my reservation online for 5:00pm from my cellphone, I arrived on-time right as they opened the door and after another party of two entered right in front of me. The host graciously greeted me and after verifying my reservation took me to one of the booths right in front of the bar and handed me copies of the menus, including the one for their Neighborhood Night for this Wednesday. Soon after, my friendly server arrived and greeted me with a big smile and welcoming attitude. She helped me pick out a Mocktail to drink and took my order. The Neighborhood Night Menu included the Gazpacho small plate, the main entrée of Spanish Seafood Risotto with scallops, Prince Edward Island mussels, jumbo shrimp, roasted red peppers and peas. And for dessert, a Basque Cheesecake. The ambiance of the place was very pleasant and relaxed and all the employees contributed to the friendly yet distinguish atmosphere of the restaurant. My server brought me my drink which was amazing. I should have known it would be because the name of the restaurant originated from the Sidecar Cocktail. This is a classic cocktail traditionally made with Cognac, an Orange liquor like Cointreau, and Lemon juice. The cocktail is said to be named after the motorcycle sidecar, either in reference to its origin story involving a regular patron of a bar who always arrived in a sidecar, or simply inspired by the vehicle's appearance.  Then a server assistant brought me the famous Gazpacho soup and two slices of a baguette toasted. The Gazpacho looked marvelous and when I put the first spoonful of it in my mouth it tasted like glory. What an amazing flavor. I had tasted genuine Gazpacho before, even in the land where it was originated but this one tasted like a Gourmet Gazpacho, a culinary masterpiece! Immediately when my server came by I sent my compliments to the Chef for creating the best Gazpacho that I have ever had with a flavor that I will never forget. Then came the main entrée: the Spanish Seafood Risotto. A picture is worth a thousand words. I invite you to view my photographs accompanying this review and see for yourselves the culinary work of art that I greatly enjoyed dining. And finally for the Grand Finale, the Basque Cheesecake made a sweet and delightful dessert to give closure to an extraordinary dining experience at a restaurant which is one of the Star City's greatest pride. Needless to say, if ever you're downtown, you should definitely try this restaurant out. It is one of those one of a kind gems which you can't describe but can admire through the beauty of its brilliance.

Yelp
I always have an amazing time when I eat at Sidecar! This was my second time coming and once again I got the steak frites with the garlic aioli sauce. Honestly hard to branch out when that dish hits every time , but I definitely want to try more of the menu because everything coming out of the kitchen looks amazing. I recommend making a reservation because it gets packed on the weekends. That said, if you show up early enough you can usually grab a seat at the bar and still get great service. Overall, love the vibe here and definitely planning to come back soon!

Yelp
Amazing time here! The ambiance is chic, elegant, and upscale without being stuffy. It's a perfect spot for date night or time out with friends. The service was excellent. We sat at the bar and our server/bartender was so attentive, knowledgeable, and friendly. He made amazing drinks and had wonderful suggestions for food based on our preferences. The drinks were delicious and well balanced. The food was yummy, well seasoned, and beautifully plated. The mushrooms were the tastiest I've ever had. We got half portions of the sea-bass and lamb meatball pasta and it was perfection and so filling. Highly recommend this place!

Yelp
Every single thing here was absolutely delicious. I would highly recommend eating here! It's cozy, clean and cute! Our server was so friendly and accommodating. She recommended a few things to our table and they all were delicious. The oysters topped with cheese were so flavorful. The brussel sprouts were crispy! Steak cooked to perfection with a great seasoning. Ranch was homemade. You HAVE to finish up dinner with the sticky toffee pudding, I could've eaten 3 more.

Yelp
This is quickly becoming one of our top 5 restaurants since moving to Roanoke! We usually sit at the bar and order a couple drinks and appetizers. But, tonight we made a reservation for our anniversary and were seated in the more intimate dining room which was really nice. Even on a Saturday, they had happy hour food and drink specials til 6. We tried the lobster thermidor and scallop small plate for the first time and both were delicious! We love that they have several seafood options on the menu. The service is always attentive and friendly as well!

Yelp
Sidecar is my new Parisian escape without leaving town! From the moment I walked in, I knew I was in for something special. The lighting was soft and golden absolutely dreamy. The sleek counters and stunning bar setup gave it that polished charm that feels upscale yet cozy. You want to linger here. I ordered the steak frites and wow. Perfectly cooked medium, unbelievably tender, and paired with a Parmesan sauce that deserves its own round of applause. I felt like I had been whisked away to a little bistro in the heart of France. The drink menu was full of thoughtful, playful options definitely coming back to explore more of it (ideally from one of their comfy booths next time...manifesting!). The Napoleon chocolate dessert? To die for. It's rich, refined, and makes a strong case for always saving room for dessert. The bar staff was friendly and attentive, striking that perfect balance of making you feel welcome without hovering. Sidecar nails that elusive mix of great ambiance, great food, and great vibes. Already planning my return visit and lowkey hoping this review earns me an invite to the next Yelp Elite soirée. Sidecar deserves to be shared.

Yelp
I have been traveling through Roanoke for decades but this was my first and not by any means my last meal at Sidecar. Located in downtown Roanoke, the Sidecar is a five star dining experience at all levels. The food is great, the whiskey selection even better and the service tops the heap. Nice work people!

Yelp
We were at Sidecar for Neighborhood Night. We all ordered the special 3 course meal of stuffed peppers, seafood risotto and strawberry semifredo ( delicious ice cream ) dessert. Everything was excellent. The three courses crescendo went to a peak with the dessert. Service was good and the place was vibrant by the bar. It was a bit too noisy for me, but my younger daughters enjoyed the vibe. We have been here multiple times and always had a positive experience. Bon apetit.

Yelp
Came for a special night out tonight and it was great! We arrived a bit early for our reservation and the host was really great about getting everyone situated and comfortable. He sat us at the bar and told us he'd come snag us once our table was ready. We both had a drink (bonus they have mocktails) and ordered a pretzel. Our table was ready and they brought the pretzel directly there. The restaurant is beautiful and feels so upscale every time. We ordered the larger portions and they were huge. With the appetizer we definitely would've been full with the smaller portion but leftovers are always great :) Such a great place for special occasions or just a nice night out.

Yelp
Great night cap stop... from the cocktails to the plates you can get from their late dinner menu was pleasantly surprising. We ordered their 4 option charcuterie board with duck pastrami, brasoala, aged Gouda, and a soft cheese cottonbell. The staff was attentive and quick to attend to anything we needed. Definitely a nice spot to get drinks and a nice meal!

Yelp
I was very impressed. We ate a ton of different menu items. The oysters were delicious. The poutine was delicious. The espresso ice cream dessert was delicious. The staff were fun and friendly and pros. I very much recommend you give it a try if you have the money. It weren't cheap but it was worth it for us.

Yelp
This is a wonderful gem in downtown Roanoke. We were visiting to scope out a retirement location. We couldn't get reservations on Friday or Saturday so book ahead if you want one of those nights. Our server was delightful and the food and atmosphere top notch. I had the oyster sampler. They were super fresh and delicious. My husband got the brussels and they were very tasty. I had the Cassoulet for my main. So good! No room for dessert but I'm sure they would be wonderful.

Yelp
Delicious cocktails and food. Cozy space. Can be busy on weekends, need reservations.

Yelp
If you haven't tried Sidecar, do it now! This was a perfect score from start to finish. Farm to garden, fresh and tasty treats that will please any palate. Sausage that will redefine your impression of what a perfect sausage is. Took in a sea bass with veggies instead of risotto, wow! The fresh veg blend of squash, carrots, green beans, and dried tomatoes made a delicious accompaniment to the perfectly prepared fish. What a taste treat delight. Great selection of beverages offer anyone the ideal companion to your meal. Like I say, if you live or are visiting Roanoke, you deserve this gem of a dining experience. Thanks to a great staff and accommodating chef.

Yelp
My autumn salad was delish--& huge! The vinaigrette was gently drizzled, so just had a lovely subtle flavor that brought out the taste of the soft roasted carrots, mixed lettuce, and seeds. My husband has the pork sandwich and loved it. The fries are the best, probably on this side of the Atlantic. They came with a garlic oil mayo dressing--magnifique! He also enjoyed his dry basque cider. The limoncello spritz was so delicious and refreshing, that I had two. Can't wait to come back! What an inspired menu. The staff and ambiance were perfectly lovely, too. See ya soon!

Yelp
Food, service, and ambiance are wonderful. We had the Christmas Yorkshire Pudding dinner and it was unbelievably delicious. Recommend to all! Great restaurant! Get reservations!!

Yelp
Amazing food! We had a charcuterie that was out of this world. All of our meals were perfect! The service is incredible. Oh, and the cocktails! Everything was done soo ok right!

Yelp
Drinks (5/5): We got The Crown Jewel ($12), Saint Tropez ($9), and a punch drink. The Crown Jewel and the Saint Tropez were amazing! I've never had a drink as good as The Crown Jewel! Service (5/5): The bartender was amazing. He was making 4 drinks at once, and they tasted AMAZING! We wanted a third drink, but we didn't know which one to pick from! So we asked the bartender for a surprise and he made the Saint Tropez for us. Couldn't have picked a better surprise! Ambiance (5/5): It had a very classy vibe. We were in normal, everyday clothing and were worried we were underdressed since people were dressed nicely, but it wasn't an issue! This place was my favorite bar in Roanoke! If you go to Roanoke, you have to stop by Sidecar and try The Crown Jewel!!!

Emily D.

Yelp
In town for business and a colleague recommended stopping in at SideCar. I'm so glad I did! I had a lovely evening at the bar, enjoying the ambiance, interactions with the staff, and especially the food! My bartender told me some of her favorite things are the appetizers so I ordered several small plates to sample the menu and enjoyed every single bite! I'd highly recommend the eggs mimosa, scallops, brussel sprouts, empanadas, and oysters sidecar as amazing options while there!

Caryle C.

Yelp
Service was very good. Creative cocktail menu. The pork chop is enormous and tasty, though pricey at $48. Beautiful bar, but the ambiance in the adjacent dining room drops off a bit.

Yelp
Love Wednesday nights at the Sidecar! The 6/19/24 "3 Course Menu" offering was one of the best yet! The scallops with the 3 bean salad were especially delicious. Cocktails, food and wine were well paced and expertly served by Zak. Our "Made with Love" bartender knows exactly how to build the best Old Fashions in Roanoke. Thanks for a wonderful evening!

Yelp
Food is great. Service has always been superb and the vibe is retro classy. We like to dine there for special occasions. It gives us an opportunity to try food we don't regularly eat. The mussels are to die for! It's fun trying new cocktails. This is a great place to take friends from out of town. We've enjoyed every meal we've had here.
google avatar

Stephanie N.

Yelp
This place was excellent - service was also great. We sat at the bar, which is always fun to watch the bartenders work. Their cocktails are inventive and delicious but they also have a respectable beer menu full of mostly Belgian choices. My halibut was beautifully cooked and the lamb chops were also incredible. I have to dock one star because my brother got the elk sausage and shortly after getting home became violently ill with apparent food poisoning. Surprising coming from a restaurant of this caliber and unfortunate that this happened because otherwise we really enjoyed this meal. I would probably return, but will not order the wild game items.

Allison P.

Yelp
I've dined here too many times to count and every single time is amazing! As a local, I recommend this restaurant to everyone I meet! I cannot say enough good things. Amazing food and cocktails!

Dave C.

Yelp
A fine place for Happy Hour and an early dinner. The drinks are first class with good selections of liquors for even the most discriminating palate. The bat staff are experienced & engaging. There's a reasonable selection of entrees, apps, 1/2 plates, including seafood entrees. Sitting at the bar is great for 2-some conversations; it gets noisy, so be prepared. Booths are tight (it seems); tables are roomier...We've been several times and had good experiences every visit.
google avatar

Megan S.

Yelp
Amazing cocktails, mussels, fries and entrees. Cool space and really liked the vibe. Tried sea bass and chicken thighs.

Jangmee H.

Yelp
Came across this gem during a work trip and was traveling on my own. What a blissful find as the venue was charming taking you back to the speakeasy days. I ended up sitting at the bar to eat where the bartenders were engaging. They make a solid Old Fashioned. I splurged and ordered Cauliflower Au Gratin which if every vegetarian meal tasted this heavenly I'd easily cut out meat. My entree was the Porchetta sandwich which was a little dry and not as flavorful for my preference but the poutine fries easily made up for it as I was still coming off my cauliflower high. The gentleman next time ordered the french dip and had been there the night before as he too was on a work trip loving the vibe and food at Sidecar. I ended my meal with poached pear which was perfection of light, clean your palette of cheese and fried poutine. Roanoke has a gem here.

Yelp
This place is delicious we came here for our 2 year anniversary!! They were so sweet to us. Had our table ready, super clean and classy atmosphere. Service was excellent!! We will be back.

Yelp
It's a really nice place. The food was creative and delicious. The drinks were amazing. I would definitely go there again and the service was very good.

Yelp
Visiting family in the area and came here for a bonus date night. Service was friendly and gave great recs. Food was outstanding! Will absolutely come back if we can swing it.

Yelp
One of our favorite places to eat in Roanoke was closed for the week, so we hopped on goggle and Sidecar popped up. I had never heard of this place before and it certainly did not disappoint. You do need a reservation, but if you're ok with sitting at the bar you can walk right in. We only had to wait a few min for some people to finish at the bar. First, let me say the staff is fantastic! From the hostess to everyone behind the bar everyone was very personable and friendly. We are huge foodies and don't mind dropping money on good food. This place was amazing! It's a word my boyfriend typically doesn't like to use and he said the food is amazing. Fantastic drinks. We each had a at Tropez and a self care. And of course we had dessert which was pretty fantastic as well. We will definitely be back
google avatar

Yelp
This has to be, by far, the best date night restaurant I have been too in roanoke and the surrounding area! The menu seems daunting the the staff is so supportive and friendly. They will help pair the most perfect drinks based on your alcohol preferences, with your meal. The wait staff was attentive but not too in your face. The atmosphere was relax and dressed up at the same time. The music they played was both fun and relaxing and everyone in the place was smiling and laughing. Definitely not a place for small children, but like I said a wonderful place to bring your special someone or have an awesome night out with friends! The small plates are cool for sampling a bit of everything with your closest pals! If I could give it more stars I would. I'm not photographer, but I tried my best to show how amazing the food is!

Yelp
WOW!! This place is incredible, from the food to the drinks, everything exceeded our expectations. We started with whiskey sours, which they were able to make with egg whites for us (for the creamiest, richest whiskey sour you'll ever have), seriously SO good. We tried several items from the cheese and charcuterie menu, and enjoyed all of it, plus the accompanying accoutrements that were provided. We also tried several seafood items, and I have the say the Welfleet Oysters were a hit. They came with both regular cocktail sauce, and a delicious pink vinaigrette that I preferred. We also tried the delicious deviled eggs, crab claws, and the clams. The mussels were delicious as well, and the drinks were strong and tasty.

Yelp
Loved this place!!!! I am surprised to see that this place is not on Yelp. Their cocktails are amazing! The bar is beautiful. The service was wonderful. And the food was delicious!!!!!! Loved it and we can't wait to go back here again. They had a great list of cocktails and bourbon.

Yelp
With "flight" sized portions the menu is set up to try a variety of foods or courses in one sitting. The variety, originality, and general quality of every dish we had was fantastic- with especially awesome kudos to the appetizers and charcuterie. The atmosphere is elegant, yet casual, perfect for a high-end meal on a date or a romantic start to a night out in downtown Roa oke. The staff was attentive, kind, patient and knowledgeable about the menu. Our waitress was especially helpful to us in narrowing down our selections. I enjoyed my meal very much and left stuffed and with a doggy bag! Can't wait to go back again.

Mark P.

Yelp
I will never return to this restaurant. Went with some friends and had the duck. It was dry and tasteless. You know when you get fried chicken at a grocery store and it's been sitting there in the heat too long that's pretty much what we were served. We went back a few weeks later and I had the nastiest tasting hamburger I've ever had in my life. And I've eaten a lot of hamburgers. Quite honestly I think the beef was rotten there is no possible way that seasoning could make something taste like rancid meat. The server saw that we had taken one bite and slid our plates forward so she took them and was nice about it. We didn't ask for a credit. I swear to God this is not a lie when we got our check she had taken the price of the burger patty off of the bill and charged us for the bun and the egg. I think that was probably the most absurd thing that's ever happened to me in a restaurant. We paid, tipped and left but will never return. Their drinks are OK no complaints services always been great but the food quality of this place has deteriorated significantly. Dine at your own risk.

My family had a relative in the hospital and needed a breather. This place delivered. Fantastic cocktails, excellent food, and great service. I'm so glad we stopped in!!

Yelp
One Word - OUTSTSANDING!!! While visiting Roanoke we really wanted a speakeasy or a really decent cocktail bar and (using social media) we found this place (Head's up to all those "industry folks" who don't like Yelp - You're going down the wrong path!) and we stopped in. Demetrious greeted us and ended up taking care of us for the evening and was AWESOME! We only planned on coming here for a couple of drinks before enjoying dinner elsewhere for the evening, but we ended up loving their menu and the service and wanted to stay, so (sad to say for the other place) we canceled our reservations at the other place and stayed here for the evening. They have a great menu loaded with unique items which they executed perfectly!! Their cocktail menu is outstanding... Their wone list is outstanding, they even have 25 under $25!!! And their seafood options are outstanding!! Food was prepared perfectly!!! We enjoyed some of the BEST cocktail shrimp we've ever had! Jonas crab was good, slightly watery tho, but the mustard sauce was great! Their cocktail sauce was some of the best I've ever had! Their curry chicken sausage (along with their curried ketchup) was outstanding! Charcuterie options were out of this world!!! Moroccan chicken thigh was excellent!! Dessert was awesome too!! The place was beautifully decorated and restrooms were perfectly clean and kept up. We love this visit and not only would we highly suggest it to others, you better believe we'll be back!!!

Yelp
This was one of my first upscale restaurant experiences in Roanoke. Sidecar has a casual but elevated atmosphere with excellent service. I had the Steak Frites and my friend had the Moroccan Chicken. We also each had a drink. Everything was wonderful. We both ordered the smaller portion of our entrees and it was plenty of food.

Yelp
Wow is an understatement. They have a huge menu of unique items. It's modern trendy without being uptight. Their prices aren't too high and they have an enormous amount of liquor options. Reservations recommended for dinner but late night drinks and snacks, we had no issues being seated. The food was delicious. Burgers, oysters, charcuterie, baked pretzels. I can't say one negative thing! I can't wait to go back to try more food. Also they have a nice sized cocktail drinks menu and one of the people in my party were incredibly pleased with their lavender lemon gin and tonic. Not to mention they're option til 1am. It's nice to have a place that's better than a sports bar open late in DT Roanoke. One downside for wine drinkers. They have a lot of wine sold by the bottle but only 4 options sold by the glass. I typically drink a Sauvignon Blanc and they had one white option of Pinot Grigio. I wish there were more white wine glass options. Other than that, I will absolutely be back to try more! I love this place.

Yelp
It was our first visit to Roanoke, and we opted to try Sidecar. We chose wisely! This place is flat out fantastic. It's actually two venues in one -- a bustling bar side, and through a door, a quiet restaurant side. At one point the bar took over the jewelry store next door, where they kept a few historical flourishes intact, like the display case and in-wall steel safe. First, the drinks. They have a fantastic list of prohibition cocktails, many of which have fun flares. I had a spin on a Corpse Reviver #2 that was tart and perfectly balanced. My wife had a classic French 75. Of special note, the wine markup here is completely reasonable. They have 25 decent bottles priced at $35, and a great selection of more expensive fare. Food wise, we started with a charcuterie plate that really hit all the marks; the house made bresaola was incredibly flavorful and the smoked duck was sublime. The cheeses were all fantastic, although I wished they'd included a blue. My oyster starter was maybe the only off note of the evening; they weren't correctly shucked, and had been drained of every last drop of brine. However the kitchen was redeemed with my perfectly medium rare steak frites. The sides of crispy Brussels sprouts and cauliflower au gratin we also just amazing. Sadly we left no room for dessert, so no notes there, but I do need to mention the service. Julia was hands-down the best server we've had in years. I was a little worried at the beginning when the hostess told us she'd be taking care of us...I couldn't envision how that would work out in our favor. However she was friendly and attentive and really made sure we had a wonderful night. All told, Sidecar is a fantastic little bistro with great food and drink. It's perfect for a date night, or an evening out with friends. Come hungry!

Yelp
The food is amazing. If you get the pleasure of sitting at the bar, Logan or Demetrius will hook you up. Awesome cocktails and the food is to die for. Best restaurant in Roanoke.

Yelp
The one night we made reservations (weeks in advance, online) we got hung out to dry since they 'didn't have our reservations', even with our confirmation emails. The night we come downtown without reservations they can't seat 4 of us until FIVE hours after we arrive. This is the first weekend VA could seat bars. Hands down, not the place to stop or plan in advance. SKIP IT.

Yelp
Unique menu beautifully presented and served. I miss the frog's legs but I have had so many tasty meals here.

Yelp
We have been back several times in the last few weeks and have enjoyed new things every time, all of it so so good. Love the quality ingredients, freshness, and vibrant flavors of everything we've tried. Also appreciate LOTS of interesting and delicious low carb options. The service has also been friendly and great! Love the atmosphere, manages to be warm and cozy, rustic and elegant, all at the same time.

Yelp
I've been here twice. The first time was an amazing food experience. Service and food were fantastic. The second time, was one of the biggest let downs I've had at a restaurant. Our server had no idea what they were doing - training program is clearly insufficient. The food was well below board. They have you order everything at the beginning of the meal, multiple peoples appetizers came out with their entree. The oysters we ordered were bad and had to be sent back (which were comped). Some of the entrees were good, some looked like they came out of the microwave. The inconsistency at this price point is not really ok, just my opinion though.

Yelp
I freaking love sidecar. Incredible everything: staff, food and cocktails. I never leave without being mind-blown.

Yelp
Saved by the cooking. Our first visit. Overall impression: a really good kitchen let down by poor management. Overall result: a disjointed dinner constantly waiting to place an order, to get a drink, to get appropriate silverware, to find our server. At first we thought it was the server, then we realized she had been assigned tables in another room as well. All while obvious regulars were being showered with service, chit-chat time and more service. The only reason this review doesn't get worst is, after a while, we stepped in and choreographed the remaining steps. Food was excellent. I had the pork shank with spätzle. The quality of the pork was superb (I would not rate the duroc I've had before nearly as well). I usually avoid pork in the USA but having scored excellent pork in Virginia years ago I thought I'd see if the gods were still in a charitable mood. The spätzle were somewhat unique. Having lived and worked in Germany, Alpine Italy and Switzerland for near 30 years, these were not spätzle. But they and the accompanying sauce were excellent. Second meal was amberjack served on risotto. The fish was slightly over done, perhaps due to sitting under a heat lamp waiting, and waiting. The risotto and accompanying sauce was excellent. Dessert was excellent, despite arriving after we were done with our coffees. The wine list by the glass is very limited. An old Pinot Grigio far beyond its prime was the only white. The water needs better filtration, out-of-towners should order bottled. Certainly go for the food. If you're not known to them, take control of the table you get (the regulars get the larger dining area, and the service). Be ready to order drinks the first time you see your server. Order apps before entrees, dessert before coffee, when food arrives make sure these's appropriate silverware. We do this in the normal course of dining out. If we hadn't, this review would probably be worse.
